Well, someday I will figure out why I always sleep so poorly on Sunday nights.. Happy Monday folks, as we begin a new week.
Ruth, Yes, I do think that an 8 year old would love those gifts....my Dd#2 was into tea parties and the like (and still has some of her toys from that era!). You make the most adorable gifts. I figure that you would be able to figure out that c2c afghan pattern, but the issue becomes if you want to put that much effort into it when there are very pretty afghans that make sense to you now without a ton of effort like that. Hope I am making sense, I am only a few sips into my first cup of tea.
Gotta get my time in with Leslie sansone. BBL G

Good morning crafters, yes it is a Monday alright.
our Saturday night with friends was fun.Tom and Mary could not make it. Tom got a call his mom fell in the N.H.Tom and his sister were at the hospital.
tom's mom was trying to get in or out of her bed and fell.
she has a broken hip, no surgery.she is 100 years old and will be going to hospice. pneumonia will probably set in now. matter of time.sad time for them. I told Mar we would pray for mom and them.
yesterday we drove to Winona MN,about30 miles from here. went to fleet farm, kinda like a tractor supply store.
stopped at the quilt shop just to look around. yeah looked around alright.came out with a bag of 55dolalrs worth of stuff bought a charm pack and 2 yards of blue fabric..want To make pillow shams. in 2012 I won the quilt our guild made for the august banquet.don't know why I waited this long.
also bought a patriotic wall hanging kit.not sure when I will be cutting that one out.least I have it if they run out of the kit, panel, and the other fabrics.
kinda dumb to spend 55 dollars when I will be going to a quilt show Thursday.we don't always find something at shows either.
have a good Monday. do the best you can. phyl

Hello Crafters Ruth - The Tic-Tac-Toe and Ice Cream Cone projects sounds so cute, I'm sure they will be enjoyed. Phyl - Those goodies from the quilt shop sound nice, I hope you enjoy working with them. I was really surprised that I didn't see anything I wanted to buy at the quilt show this last weekend - you are right that sometimes there's nothing there to interest us. I'm sorry to hear about your friend's mother. It's just so sad when people get to that age and have accidents that they can't recover from. I'll keep all of them (and you) in my prayers. Ginny - Have you looked at the English Paper Piecing anymore? Is this the one where you put some fabric around a template and glue the edges or stitch them and then join the pieces together? Kind of like the Grandmother's Flower Garden? Or is it the Foundation Paper Piecing where they is a pattern on a sheet of paper and you sew fabrics onto the paper and trim - giving you really sharp edges? I did well with the English Paper Piecing and actually have a really nice pattern started with a bunch of them that I made. I have always had problems with Foundation Paper Piecing. My mind cannot grasp putting a strange size piece of fabric onto a sheet of paper and sewing it down and then adding more pieces - I don't know why I was in a crummy mood yesterday, just irritated with everything and tired of "dieting". I'm doing better today, but there will always be a part of me that is resentful that I have this problem with food and just can't eat whatever I want. I try to remember how my legs and knees have been hurting again since I gained some weight back and hopefully that will motivate me to take it off again. I don't keep any junk food in the house, since I just can't control myself anymore. I've been looking on the internet for Jelly Rolls (of fabric) to make the rug, and I've seen a few I like, but I sure wish I could see them in person first. But most of the quilt shops around me don't stock a lot of the jelly rolls, I guess they don't see well since there are so many cheaper on the internet. I almost went out to JoAnn Fabrics today to buy a few things, but it was raining this morning and noontime, so I'll wait for another day. It's clearing a bit now but they said we might get thunderstorms later. I heard that my spare tire kit (and tire) should be ready for me to come for installation this week. I'll be glad to get that in my trunk. Hope you are all doing well. Take care!

Well Phyl, if you enjoyed buying the fabric and it's something you will use then it's not dumb at all. We need to enjoy life. Sometimes we do make mistakes in our buying but we learn from it and I'm sure you will put your purchases to good use.
CJ, Yes I would love to be able to eat with abandon too but that's not to be for us. Some people can eat and eat and not gain an ounce but, as you know, some of us can't. I'm glad you didn't attempt to go out in the rain. I do hope that when you do go that you will find what you're looking for.
Just got in from finally being able to plant my flowers and new rose bush. Did a couple other things outdoors too including cleaning out one of our vehicles of all the accumulated winter items. I did do some crocheting before I did that so I have the two parts of the "board" done but there's still the putting it together with a border, stitching on the traditional lines for the blocks and making the x's and hearts. Then I'll get to the cake and ice cream and thank you for your lovely comments on those. I think she will like them
Ginny, how are the grandchildren today. Guess you won't be babysitting regularly for too much longer. School should be out pretty soon...what about two more weeks?

Good to see those that stopped in and I hope Meg and Betty are doing ok.
Phyl, I don't know anything about either paper piecing. I have to look it up and see how it's done. I don't intend to ever be doing it but I love to see how things are done.I keep thinking of you and your back problem. Mine flared up again after I did a bunch of things on Monday..well yesterday. It's especially bad when I first get up in the morning and after I sit and have my coffee or tea and try to stand it goes into a major spasm and I have to sit right back down and force myself to get up slowly and stretch it out. Is that what your's did? We're probably going on a little sightseeing trip next week and after that I'm seriously thinking of going to PT. I hope your's is ok now and also your hip.
I did get the x's done but not the hearts and I still have the # to do and the border. I have to look up surface crochet video again. I don't do it often and everytime I do I have to refresh my memory. I should have it done today. I also want to decide on what I'll take with me on the trip that will be easy to work on in the evening. Probably a hat or something like that which is simple and portable and doesn't require more than one or two colors of yarn. One of the crochet groups is having a CAL starting June 21st for hats which you are then supposed to donate locally. They will provide a new patern each week and you can do one or however many you want. I had a goal of 15 hats a month but that was a little unrealistic so I'll do this CAL with at least one a week and hopefully more. Some of the patterns I probably already have or won't like so I'll substitute. So anyway I'll have an early start if I make at least one while "tripping" I do have a bunch made that just need ends woven in too. '

Good evening!
Yeah, CJ- glad you decided to stay home in the rain. Not worth the possibility of getting into trouble when you are out there. Bet it will be a relief to you when the spare tire is installed. Perhaps the dealership is near Joanns or Hobby Lobby or another fabric store?? Honestly, I think trying MSQ would be a good place to find a jelly roll, they only sell main brands and would stand by their product if there were a problem Also, at least for their daily deal, they give pictures of all the fabrics inside the charm pack or jely roll, which is very helpful. Are you looking for a certain color scheme?
Phyl- so sorry about the computer... Hope that your back is behaving itself. Guess we will see you when the computer is debugged.
Ruth, what does CAL stand for? SO sorry to hear about your back spasms...and yes, I think its an awesome idea to get some PT for it so you can be more comfortable. Iam surprised to hear that you got some gardening done, even with the discomfort. Will pray that it passes quickly and before you go sightseeing.
Lots of grand kids today but they were pretty good. Got to study last night which was such a blessing. Guess I needed to be there And yes, I have been doing way too much mindless eating. The wedding is a month from now and it sure would be nice if I lost 5# before then. What is wrong with me?
Ok hope to get a few minutes in finishing square #1. So far, so good. And Yes, its not EPP, just paper piecing. And it helps a LOT to make perfect seams and corners. Yes, its a bit more work but I can see the results. G

Oh my goodness Ginny, time really gets away from me and I didn't realize that it was almost time for the wedding already. I do know it's June but it just didn't register with me that July is so close. Now don't worry about weight. Eat healthy and just enjoy the time and the day. I'm glad to hear that the paper piecing is making the corners, etc easier. I imagine it would as it would make it more sturdy. So when you're done with the quilt top do you take the paper off somehow or is is special paper that comes off when washed or do you just leave it on.My grandson's girlfriend's first idea was to get married in July but now it is in October or was last time I heard. Could be completely different now.

Hello Crafters Ginny - I hope that you enjoy the paper piecing. I think it does make a beautiful block when it's done. I wonder if there are people like me that have a problem with it though. Good luck with losing some weight before the wedding, I wish you the best with that I'm sure this next month will be busy. Ruth - I hope you enjoy the CAL, and it will be nice to have all those hats at the end to donate. Phyl - Hope they can fix your computer. Have a good time at the quilt show, I'll be interested to hear what you thought and saw. I went out to run some errands today and stopped at JoAnn Fabrics to get some yarn. I did a small test of the triangle shawl last night just to make sure I could do it and I did So I went out and bought the yarn for a larger one. The yarn is Lion Brand Heartland and I picked a purple for the shawl, with maybe a teal for a small stripe (not sure on that yet). The pattern is pretty easy, I just had to be careful to remember I was working in a triangle shape, since I kept trying to crochet along the straight line of the bottom. I noticed that there was a lot less quilting fabric at my local store. The last time I had looked they had a nice big selection, but now there were a few rows less. I bought two small pieces of black fabric (fat quarters) to test out a few of the canning jar blocks. If I like the black as a background then I might go to a quilt shop to buy some fabric, since the fabrics for the fruits and vegetables is a good quality and I don't want to mix that with a lesser quality fabric. Most of the time I don't care, but when I'm doing a large quilt I try to keep fabric quality the same if I can. I didn't hear back from the dealership on my spare tire, so I guess I'll call them to see if it's ready so I can go before the end of the week and get it installed. Hope everyone is doing well. Take care.

CJ, I'm glad you found the yarn you wanted and needed for the shawl. I made a lot of shawls for my grandaughters but only one was triangle shape and it was purple too. I need to make one for myself. I think it's a great idea to try the black and see how you like that, and then to get the same quality yarn to actually make the quilt of you like the background color. Installation of the tire and kit takes just a minute or two. I actually had to show the person that was supposed to be installing mine how to do it. Installations pretty much is putting it into your trunk. Of course then there's the tightening of the thingies that hold it in place.
Oh Ginny, forgot to say that CAL is crochet along. Mostly they have them for doing a certain item and you wait from one week to another for another part of the pattern. I've never joined one of those because it's usually for garments and I don't make those. They do have some nice sweather and top patterns that I've been tempted to make but then I thought about how when it gets finished and doesn't fit how angry I'd be.
I did get the tic tac toe game done except that I forgot I have to weave in all the ends on five each of the hearts and x's so will do that next. Then I have to try to get the legs of the x's to lie flat. Guess I'll wet them and pin in place to see if they dry flat. I may even spray them with starch or maybe make a mixture of school glue and water to stiffen them if the pinning doesn't work. I don't know how that will work on acrylic yarn which is what I used and what the pattern called for in fact... I was surprised about that.

Good afternoon!!
CJ - that StINKS that Joanns has much less fabric for quilting! What did they replace it with? I wonder if they are going for a greater internet presence, but its so tough to buy fabric online. Glad you found a yarn and a pattern that you like working with.Is the shawl for you? Sounds like you are getting the hang of the pattern which is worked in a different way instead of by length. I am confident its going to be pretty, purple with a teal border or stripe should be striking.
Ruth, best of luck getting the yarn ends to stay in. I would think that if you added a stiffener it would work out fine, even with an acrylic. Its frustrating getting ends to do what you want....hope that one of your methods works out well. I have never done a crochet along either. Joanns had one they sent the invitation to me, (about 3 months ago) and I did not find the project all that appealing. Besides I have no time for that. Thanks for the explanation. I totally agree with you regarding the fit of a crochetted garment. All that work to figure out that the project does not look as nice as you hoped. Even when sewing its hard to know how a pattern will fit the body.
Ok, so this am started out with a bang- Dd #2 got into an accident onroute to work. (A mile from home). Some joker ran a red light and made a left turn into her car. She is fine. The car needs work, the front bumper is completely ripped off. The officer said it was all the other persons fault, they ran a red light. Thank goodness we have a spare car while the damage to hers is assessed and repaired.
Got my hair done....I needed that!!
Last night I finished block #1, and will be looking to start block #2 in a few minutes.
Have a great day all.....Hi to Phyl (miss you, know you have computer woes!), Meg, Becky and Sue. Hope I did not miss anyone Ginny
