Hello Crafters Ruth - I'm glad you were able to drop your car off. I've been in some nice waiting areas too, but also some that were not so nice! I'm glad your DH is feeling better. The tote bag purse sounds like a great gift for an 8 yr old. I'm also glad you didn't call back on those scam calls. Also watch out for calls from the "IRS", those are also fake, the real IRS will never call you but always send a letter. I've received many of those calls. Another scam we all should watch for is a call that appears to come from our credit card company and they say they will lower your rate and if you don't agree to their terms they will cancel your card. I answered one of these calls because the called ID actually said the name of my credit card company. When I told the guy I was happy with my terms on my card he started getting really angry and said "don't you understand that we are going to cancel your card" and I finally hung up. One of my relatives fell for the Microsoft computer problem scam and paid several hundred dollars to a place. They tried to get more money from her, but she caught on it was a scam and didn't talk to them anymore. Phyl - I'm glad you were able to get out, but sorry to hear how stressed your friend is. I know how stressful it is to take care of a parent, so I feel forher. Ginny - I hope the rest of the time up to the wedding goes well without too much stress and tension. Big events like that just attract stress, don't they? Hopefully on the day you will have a wonderful time and get some beautiful pictures at your house. It's very hot here today. At 6:00 P.M. the weather gauge in my yard showed 102 degrees, with a heat index of 117 degrees I've just been staying inside and trying to keep the house as cool as I can. The portable AC is not cooling it as well this week as last week, I guess because there is more heat built up in the house. Take care everyone!

Good morning all,
Good advice CJ- I too get the credit card “offers:- promising me low rates on a credit card. What a joke- I usually press what ever key prompt they want me to to speak to a representative, and then tell them to remove me from their list. then they hang up on me. And you are completely right, there is an IRS scam that does the same thing....and again you are right the IRS will never contact you by phone. My DSIL in Florida also fell for the Microsoft hoax- well its not really Microsoft but you know what I mean. She figured out her mistake quickly and was able to reverse the problem on her credit card. (Had to get a new card). Sometimes I get the Microsoft call and play with them. They pride themselves on knowing how many and models of computers you have in your home....but they are always wrong- frequently citing that we own computers that my kids had in college. Its a laugh....I never correct them, but usually tell them they are a scam and I know that they are a scam. (Then they threaten to shut down my computer.). What a sick world we live in.

Ok, so today is slipping away from me.....got a short walk in.
Ruth - hope this all works out with the car dealership. Good that Dh is feeling better, and will continue to improve.
Yes, Phyl, Delona needed to see you....she needed time away with someone she loves and trusts.
CJ- stay inside! Today is supposed to be miserable. Time to work on a good quilting project.

We ended up going to a historical home (from the Revolutionary war) and observed a Militia exercise and the reading of the Declaration of Independence. It was very hot, but pretty neat.
Hope everyone had a great day Ginny

I hope the Fourth of July is quieter for you than it is here! The booming of thunder and the fireworks seem to last forever!
There are so many variations on the scams. I keep blocking numbers, but they just use another number.

Hello Crafters - Happy 4th of July to all of you. It was hot here again today and an hour or so ago we had a thunderstorm that just stayed over my area for probably 30 or more minutes. I got 2 inches of rain during that time! I'm still hearing some thunder out so I won't be surprised to get another storm. I'm glad not to have the hot sun coming in the house, but the house is really warm and I can't get it to cool off well. So I'm not doing much of anything. Hope all of you are enjoying the holiday

Happy INdependence day everyone.
Not doing anything here but sitting wondering why the garbage people didn't come again. The other company did come and that will be the one I transfer to tomorrow after cancelling this one. We've had off and on weather all day. It's fairly cool and we had a little rain earlier then it cleared and got nice and sunny and now it looks like rain is threatening but that often doesn't mean a thing here.
I've been crocheting a little and playing computer games and looking up the other waste companies number so I can call them in the morning.
Ginny going to that historical home sounds very interesting and very educational and perfect for today. I remember years ago when I took my sister and youngest brother to Phileadelphia to see history and we also went to Valley Forge and Gettysburg. That was not long aftter I graduated from nursing school so it was quite awhile ago. I love seeing historical places. We stopped at Ft Laramie on the way moving here and I've been back there since. We also went to Ft Ticonderoga when we lived back in NY.
CJ. I hope your house cools off. It sure can be miserable sitting in a hot house.
Sue No fireworks here yet but I just heard a very long rumble of thunder. See you all later

Good evening.
Ruth, that absolutely stinks that you did not get a garbage pick up. I can understand not having service today, its a holiday, but you should have been alerted to that fact. Our garbage company sends a robo call out if there is a conflict with a holiday or really bad weather. Then our service is delayed a day. Yes the visit to RIngwood manor was interesting enough...today has been pretty much Dh’s show we did all that he wanted to do. Dd and I were really more tired and interested in staying home. We hope to visit Gettysburg in early fall....they have built a new visitors center which I hear is very nice.
Another earthquake in California. Its too far north for Meg to feel it, but I still hope she is ok.
Sue- no thunder here, but lots of neighbors are shooting off fireworks. Hope that all the noise is not upsetting the dogs or Dh!
CJ- has the rain cooled off things for you? Hope you have something you enjoy while you are stuck inside in this heat.
Gotta go get the cat in. I am surprised that all the fireworks have not scared him home. G

I know the name of the town where Meg lives but I'm not sure exactly where it is compared to where this earthquake occurred but I do know Meg lives somewhere in the vacinity of Sacramento.
Ginny, when they don't pick up on a holiday here they usually come the day before. The other company did come today. I didn't see ours either day but there's only one of my neighbors that is with the company. All the others have the one that is, I think, an affiliate of the nationwide chain. The woman across the street got tired of the one I have and changed not long ago. The man right next door still uses the same company I do but I didn't notice if his bin was out or not. I tried to call him but he didn't answer. I'm not sure I had the right number. Anyway I did leave messages at the company and asked them to call and let me know which day they would be coming and I heard nothing at all.I'll leave my bin out for tomorrow just in case and see what happens.
I was just wondering what the noises were outside and forgot this was July4th. It must be some illegal fireworks...none are legal here but the ones put on by the town.

Good morning Ruth, CJ, Sue, Phyl, Becky, Meg...hope I did not miss anyone. Oh, hello to all those who stop by and do not say hello too!
Ruth, Indeed its frustrating when a service is paid for, like garbage removal, and the company does not/cannot keep up their part of the deal. Its going to be interesting to see if they decide to credit you for the non pick up- or come today on a special trip to compensate. Here we are serviced by 3 different companies, We switched many years ago from the first company (cost was the main reason). I must say who we are using now is pretty reliable and their billing service is easy to work with.
Lots of fireworks here. Our local ones were several days ago. Other than the really big towns, most of the local fireworks (sponsored by each town) are sprinkled throughout the week before the 4th and next week. My state loosened up the sale of fireworks a bit, and now we are getting the sale of fireworks in food stores and farm markets. Most of them are illegal, but with our proximity to Pennsylvania, (where fireworks are legal and easy to get) many folks drive across the border and buy a lot. Last night many neighbors had fireworks- so over the course of a few hours you could hear the different “shows” others put on. We even ignited one single small firework we had bought in NC years ago, which I found in the cabinet while cleaning. I was surprised it still worked! Had a bit of a time getting our outside cat in for the night- who thought with all the activity that perhaps it was a good night for him to stay out and play. Wrong!!! Got him in....of course, by now he is back outside again. I was greeted by a small “present” at our kitchen door- a baby bear left me his calling card was probably scared by the fireworks and came on our deck looking for food. Its all cleaned up now....oh what fun.
Busy day again. Dh wants to be out a lot today. Somehow I have to get this house cleaned up before the wedding. Still trying to figure out when I am going up for my BOM class- options are THursday evening, or Friday am. (Cannot go Saturday because of the wedding). Either way, I feel bad not being home for Dd’s last week here....its only 4 hours....
Have a good day all Ginny

Oh my....todays tutorial on MSQ is a disappearing snowball four patch quilt. I can really see myself making this one- fabric selection will be critical, but I love the fabrics that they use. Hope I can import the link for it later on.....so I got some crafting in today, checking out this gorgeous quilt. G

The earthquake in Ridgecrest is in the middle of the Mohave Desert, an isolated area in the southern half of the state. The town has about 27,000 people and is adjacent to the Naval Ordinance Test Station.
Lots of booming last night. The dogs and I retreated to the bedroom. In a smaller space and snuggled up very close, they weren't as panicky. Unfortunately, they didn't stop until 12:30 am. These are the same people who have building a huge building at the very back of their lot. The structure completely blocks my next door neighbors' view to the south. It's over 30' feet high and is larger than the house at the front of the lot.
I thoroughly enjoyed the PBS Fourth of July DC celebration earlier in the evening. Good music, beautiful fireworks. The show was hosted by John Stamos. L

Hello Crafters Hope everyone enjoyed the holiday yesterday. Fireworks are illegal in my county, but fortunately some of my less than lawabiding neighbors put off some really nice fireworks that I was able to see from my back door It was nice to see them in person, instead of on TV. I watched "Yankee Doodle Dandy" on the Turner Classics Movie network last night. I've always enjoyed that movie and love to watch it on the holiday. We had a lot of rain yesterday, almost 3 inches by the end of the night! It was so hot and humid too. It's that way again today, but without the rain. I'm hoping for some cooler weather next week - maybe in the 80s. I'm pretty much doing nothing, it's just too hot for it. June seemed to go by very fast and I'm hoping July and August do too. I really don't like summer Take care everyone!

hi girls, yesterday we had a nice 4th. went to the dells and met Don and Marlene for lunch at cracker barrel.we visited for a little over 2 hours. The 4 of us get along great.
I watched fireworks from the house.can't see much anymore from my bay window in the living room or the one kitchen widow. the trees have grown to big.
OUR back bedroom looking toward the back yard I can see great fireworks. I can sit on the bed and watch them. who ever bought those works had to spend alot of money.they must have shot them off for over an hour
the neighborhood was pretty quiet compared to other years.
jeana's neighbor did not shoot any last night. . he probably shoot off some tonight or tomorrow.
this is a neighbor most of us don't like. seems like he is mad all the time and think she owns that part of the neighborhood.
I have not don any crafting this week.phyl
