Phyl, I almost got to meet Marlene and Don once. I probably told you already. That was when their camper broke down though and they had to go back home instead of where they were headed to volunteer for that summer. I would have loved to meet them
Sue, poor little doggies. I'm glad they were able to find comfort in each other.
CJ, sure have to disagree with you about that but then you already know how I feel about winter. I probably should move to somewhere warm. I've mentioned that before too and yet here I am still in the freezing cold in winter. Of course there are drawbacks to being anywhere. Arizona, which is where I would move if I did move, has all kind of nasty insects and pests so that you have to hire pest control people. Worse in Florida though so I wouldn't dream of moving there. It's too humid too and way too many people...more than AZ
Ginny, try not to stress about the house cleaning. I'm sure your house is always clean and if there is a speck of dust somewhere no one is going to notice it.
I tried calling the garbage people today and by some miracle someone answered and she said she would send someone today. I told her about the messages I left and she said something about her voice mail not working properly for the last couple months....hey you're a business...get it fixed. Anyway I sure hope she follows through with that [ickup because I think she said she was going to be out of town next week.Couldn't hear her very well on the phone either.
I started a purse for one of the grandaughters today and am using Mandala ombre in a color called balance. It's really pretty. For a pattern I'm using ideas from two pattern with my own added touches.I finished a hat today making six for week 2's pattern. The one for this next week was posted today and it's a really simple one so I should be able to get quite a few of those done too.Maybe one a day. It's extended single crochet which is easy and fast.

Wow, it's been 23 hours since I posted this and no one else has come in. I know Ginny's super busy preparing for the wedding, CJ probably is roasting and sweltering in the hot, humid weather. Phy is busy going places with her dh and their friends. Sue is playing with the doggies and working on her garden. Meg is hopefully ok and resting and Betty probably is busy with family.
Well I deleted and reinstalled my Fitbit app and did the "replace device" thing and now my device does synch with my phone. I read some too on what all the fitbit can do. It's amazing and I'll never learn how to do all those things. Still waiting for the garbage people which I think is a hopeless cause. Haven't heard from the Honda dealer so the simple fix they thought it might be must not have turned out so simple after all. I have a bad feeling about that but I'm resigned to the fact that I may have wasted a whole bunch of money buying that thing. Still haven't heard from the people that sold it to me to see if they are going to help. Saleswoman said the other day that her GM was out of town and she will talk to him when he gets back
Ginny, I hope everything is going smoothly with the wedding but I know how those things go.
Ok back to crocheting.

Yes I knew it was. She's mentioned meeting you and how much you like Waldo. And she said the same about you and your Don...what a nice couple you are. I haven't been to our mall in about 5 years but I've heard that a lot of stores have closed. I know that Macy's closed only because when I was going over to that side of town for my dh's glasses there was a large said that said they were closing. Sears of course closed too and I'm not sure what other stores. We never did have a Barnes and Noble.
It's been really pouring rain here now for at least 15 minutes straight. Very unusual for here. My dh was about to go out and water the plants when it started to cloud up. Now there's no need. I'm sure they're too wet now.

Good evening, Yes, I keep thinking about Meg, and hoping that any aftershocks of these earthquakes are not impacting her or the safety of her and her loved ones.
Ruth, well, good thing you got some rain. Your area sounds like its naturally dry, a dramatic change from humid summers in NY. It sure stinks the number of brick and mortar stores that are closing. We do have a Macy’s and JC Penney’s. Barnes and Noble is a bit of a hike from us. Books make wonderful gifts and there is something so nice about a holding a book in your hands as opposed to an “e” reader.
Phyl- glad you got to B&N- what a good place to check out quilting magazines! Whatever happened to paper stores....little shops that sold primarily magazines and news papers. I have never seen a copy of Block magazine. Is it a nice magazine with good patterns?
CJ- did all your rain cool things off a bit for you? Now, I am not a big fan of summer weather....but I do know that with the summer comes county fairs (and quilt shows!). Hope you can stay comfortable and that the heat does break with some lower temps.
Now, I am not obsessing over the cleanliness of the house, after all, I live with 3 house trashers who do not clean up after themselves. THe place became very disheveled, with all the wedding stuff we had here (favors, decorations, invitations.....etc.....so I am beginning to reclaim some sanity and put things away. We also had 2 weeks with more than average babysitting, and extra toys were out. I am trying to get things back together so that its not too disgusting or untidy. If I get a little bit done each day, I ought to be fine.
The closest I got to crafting today was putting some supplies away.
Hope you are doing well Sue.....hi to Becky and Meg and anyone I missed Ginny

good mroning, today will be church waiting for Nita to email. the plant the 4 of us would go to Winona and have lunch and over to the quilt store.
could be Dick does not want to go and be just the 2 of us. that is ok.
Ginny I like the block magazine. the mag does not have any advertising in it. they do it with what they call in house.think that means they do it all in Missouri.
I have enough copies that when the next auto renew comes up I WILL STOP.Been getting it for a few years.
yes there are good patterns and not so good patterns.all depends what your taste is. like any other quilt mag they try to keep customers happy.
their customer service is great.I WANTED TO DO AN On POINT BABY QUILT. I had to get a hole of them and have them tell me how to get the top to certain size.
the price is 7.99 bi-monthly,4794 for6 issues when you subscribe
subscription auto-renew unless you login to your account to cancel.
I have all the mags and only hace made 2-3 things out of them. I do plan on some more projects. need to get alot of what I have started done first.
they also have another mag called mod block. not sure what that one is.
sometimes you can find a quilt vendor at a show that is selling them.also some quilt shops carry the block it you just want to look through one
you can go to their website and find out more.
time for breakfast and get ready for church. phyl

Phyl, thanks for the heads up on Block magazine. Sounds pretty good- what I do love about MSQ is that they attempt to make the difficult easier with precuts and other techniques to hasten the process. MSQ has some wonderful videos too, as you well know. I will have to check out quilt shows and shops to see what I can find there. At the moment I cannot imagine getting a subscription. You must have quite a library of their magazines!!! I am sure there are some great ideas at your fingertips. How is your back/sciatica doing? Yes, I have seen the MSQ video of an onpoint quilt. Will have to add that to my list of projects.
Got to church this am....now have to go to the store. We have been so busy recently that I am running out of fresh fruits and veggies. Gotta go restock my kitchen.
Have a great day all Ginny

afternoon, Ginny I forgot to tell you can order a block magazine also. you do not have to scribe.then add shipping that would be a expensive mag.
we did pick up Dick and NITA.Had lunch at ground round. went to the quilt shop.Pauline did not have tis the season kit ready. she is still working on the quit top.then she needs to sandwich it and quilt. was my misunderstanding. I thought it would be ready this weekend.
she said that was the plan but she said that was the plan but they got busy. they got busy they are only open th-sunday.
so I will call next week and go up if the kit is ready.
still it was a nice way to spend a sunday. PHYL

Hello Crafters Sounds like everyone has been busy this weekend. It's been very hot here, so I haven't been doing much. I'll check out the blogs on Slow Stitching Sunday but that's about as close to any crafting that I'll be doing. Take care everyone!

Sounds like a really expensive magazine to me. It would have to have a out of this world pattern in each one to get me to subscribe and probably not even then. Phyl, we used to go to the Ground Round back in NY. We don't have one here.
CJ, I was thinking of you working on that shawl. In the heat my fingers sweat and I can't crochet then but it doesn't last long so I only have to take a couple minutes off.
Ginny, here we don't have very good fruits and veggies but I do need to get out and get some...maybe some frozen ones. When they do have fresh they usaually aren't very good. One store has a sale on peaches but that's risky to even get them because they usually turn out to be mealy. I had some frozen ones this morning with breakfast and they weren't very good either though.
I have two and actually three project I'm working on.. ONe I started the other day and don't plan to work on that till I get these other two done. One is a purse for my grandaughter and the other is this weeks hat pattern. Everyone in the group is complaining about it being too large so that helped me because I knew then that I couldn't increase to 7 inches as you would normally do for an adult hat so I increased only to six inches and it fits my head perfectly. It has stripes and I've found that my ugly yarn is working great when you combine colors like that. I'm on the second one now for the week

Yes, Phyl, I do not even know if there is a Ground Round near here anymore. We used to enjoy going to the one in North NJ- which closed many years ago. I remember the food used to be good and it was a fun informal atmosphere. Hope you enjoyed your meal and time there.
CJ-did you find anything fun on slow stitching Sunday? I wonder if you go to the beach at all with your sister in law..its a nice way to beat the heat for a day if you enjoy that. (I am not a big beach fan....understand if you do not enjoy travelling to the shore).
Ruth, how sweet it is that you are able to use up your ugly yarn for the hat!! What is the ugly yarn?? Congrats on making the size adjustment- and figuring out the pattern. It sounds like you make a different hat each week. Forgive me it this is a brilliant grasp of the obvious...my mind is sort of in a wedding fog these days.
Got some stuff put away today and will continue a little bit more this evening. THink right now the only one who understands I want this house cleaned up for the wedding is Dd. The others seem to have their heads in the sand. No crafting for me, I did see Pastor’s wifes baby quilt- which she just completed today. Its adorable! I feel part of it as I helped a bit with fabric selection and her quilting methods....its so pretty. So cheering her on today will have to count as my crafting for the day. Ginny

Ginny, looking at baby quilts counts. It's so nice that you had a part in it. Yes many times our family members don't feel the same as we do about our home looking good when company is coming. I hope that they will help or at least not hinder you from reaching your hoped for look for the house. Yes You have a lot on your mind right now. Just one week from today it will all be past. I hope you all have a wonderful day that day and make lots of great memories.
My ugly yarn is RHSS that I bought for some reason way back when I was going to Caps for KIds meetings. I actually thought it, which is variegated, would go well with solids and it probably will but just looking at it lying there by itself it looks ugly. then there's the Herrschnerr's worst8 yarn I bought a ton of. It's not really ugly but it's nothing to brag about and it feels scratchy on the skein. Once I used it though it felt pretty good on the completed hat and people say it will get even softer when it's washed. And it too looks great when combined into a project. I've already made a couple hats with a color that looks like burnt orange or maybe pumpkin...no color name on the label...and a bright, almost neon orange. They look great together in the two hats I made using them. And the burnt orange worked great with POL denim to look like the old Broncos colors...someone will love that. Broncos is our "home" football team.
Yes there is a new pattern posted every Friday. We're on pattern #3 now.

I refilded some fabric and put it in a box. Fabric keeps multiplying! I'm trying to get it in one location so I can get it organized.
We had two T storms today. I've turned off the sprinklers for now. There's something wrong with the water pressure in the house. Of course, the company I need was closed! The dishwasher runs, but it takes much longer.
