Just got back from Second Street Market. It was hot and steamy already at 8 am. We got tomatoes, carrots, romaine, eggplant, zucchini, onions. I see ratatouille in our future. We are leaving in a few minutes for a farm market I saw in a dayton.com article. It is about 30 minutes away but the sun is shining and weāll take the back country roads.
Have a great Saturday!

Chele, thanks for the start. It's going to be a scorcher here today too. Sounds like a good haul at the market and perfect for ratatouille. Good luck at the second market. I think I'm heading to the regular grocery store today for a few things. There is a lot of coverage of the moon landing today, so I'll be watching some of that. Wish my dad was here to see it.
Waving to all. Enjoy your Saturday!

Thanks for the start and the recipe, Chele. Scorched is right! Heat index is close to 90 here already. I could probably make a few modifications and make the recipe work for me. Yes, it definitely sounds like you're ready for ratatouille. I finished mine off last night. How was the farm market? Nice day for a back country trip. Hope it was enjoyable.
Linda, I try not to prune at all in the heat and do it mostly when the plants are dormant in the winter months. I don't know about you, but I'm getting pretty numb to the almost daily food recalls. And most of them are after the fact, so people have already gotten sick if they're going to. What are you into today?
Your dad would definitely appreciate all the attention being paid to the moon landing, Kathy, as would Liz's DF. I know what you mean about deer and plants. I lost my entire fall garden to one a few years ago. At least gators and coyotes don't eat plants, but I agree on preferring deer. My GF also loved to paint and I don't think any of his pintings survived. My uncle (his #2 son behind DF) was also a painter and DM had one of his paintings, which I hope DB kept. Hopefully his kids have others. If DBIL's sister had a pacemaker, heart problems are a definite possibility. The scrambled tofu was pretty good. It was a bit salty for my taste, but next time I make the seasoning, I will cut the salt by about 80%. When I plugged it into MFP, it showed more than half my sodium for the day in just that one dish. I just don't eat much salt. I don't even salt my corn on the cob. My vehicle came with a Harmon-Kardon sound system, so the mp3s sound pretty good. I probably have 200 songs on the c-jazz flash drive and usually have it set on shuffle. It keeps me entertained on the road. Are you watching the Outlander marathon on one of the STARZ channels?
Liz, how are you feeling and how is Zoe doing? Did you get your Alta HR set up yet?
Are you sweltering like the rest of us, Becky? What did you and Kenneth do today? How are the bites doing?
Down 0.4 lbs this morning. Not much but I'll take it. Dale went to the mountains to run and I thought it would be a good time to wrap his remaining gifts for his upcoming birthday on Tuesday. Suddenly, I heard the garage door. He usually calls when he's on his way but he couldn't find the phone . I don't think he saw what I hadn't wrapped yet and we found the phone. I did 20 minutes on the treadmill and had to use 3 different pairs of shoes to get it accomplished. I started out in a pair of Vibram Five Fingers and they still hurt one of the scars, so after 30 seconds I changed to an older pair of Asics and had the same problem with the insoles that I had on another pair a couple of months ago. So I changed into yet a 3rd pair to finish my time. So I'm in the market for another pair of insoles. Not much planned for this afternoon. We have last night's Giants game and 2 stages of Tour de France we haven't watched, and then the Giants are playing again at 4. Everybody stay cool!

Enjoy the moon landing coverage, Kathy. My parents would have loved the coverage as well. We were all glued to the TV. I hope the stores were not too crowded. My aunt was a painter. She did a painting of my mother when she was young, about a 5 x 7 size. I inherited it from my DM. DB didnāt appreciate it.
Karen, I hope Dale did not see his presents. Those poor tootsies of yours! What they have been through a d what you have to do to get 20 minutes of a workout. Good thing you are persistent. On the enchiladas I used a water sautĆ© on the onions. My veggies were already roasted, so that part was a cinch. You could do a vegan cheese in it. I cit the cumin in half because otherwise it gets too strong for me and I added more chili powder. I also donāt do a lot of salt. My DF had high blood pressure so DM did not use salt a lot. A lot of things taste too salty to me. Congrats on the continued loss no matter the size.
Linda, I hope Liz wasnāt stuck in that either. I would have gone nuts stuck underground. I tried to figure out how I would have gotten back to the Bronx from Manhattan and it would have had to have been an expensive cab ride. How are all of you today?
Becky, I hope the ants have left town by now. Did you get out and about?
Liz, I hope you didnāt have too many errands today and that you got home at a decent hour last night.
We had a nice drive through farmland to get to the farm market. We got watermelon, Indiana melon (muskmelon, similar to cantaloupe) and peaches. I managed to bypass the Amish homemade pies. Iggy did pick up some homemade peach jam. We passed by Youngās Dairy and did NOT stop in for ice cream. So many temptations today.

Chele Thanks for the start. You made a good haul this morning.I hope your other farm market is good also and try to stay cool.
Kathy I'm sure you are hot like everyone else.Grocery store shopping sounds much cooler than farmers markets.I haven't seen anything on our local channels about the moon landing except just a little on the early news but I can imagine they would have more coverage where you live.
Karen Yes it's hot today. It isn't supposed to be as humid but it has gotten up to 97.Looking for 100 tomorrow. We had to go to the HEB pharmacy because they didn't fax my refills in time for me to pick them up yesterday so while we were there I picked up some strawberries and almonds.I had already stocked up on blueberries yesterday since they are on sale now for $1.25/pint.I will probably get more on Monday since I bought 2 pints yesterday.Their sale only goes through Tuesday.I can buy 1 lb of strawberries for almost the same price 6 oz containers as blackberries right now and they haven't been that tasty.Other than that I have been inside chilling with the AC.I rode the recumbent bike twice and that's all I plan to do for exercise except for the hourly steps my VS urges me to get on the few hours I haven't gotten up from my recliner.I thought it was funny that it auto tracked 15 minutes of elliptical while I was walking up and down a few aisles at HEB.Congrats on the loss.A loss is a loss is a loss.
Chele The ants seem to be gone by now.Hopefully the Ortho is working. My bites are slowly getting better. We weren't out for long.Kenneth has talked about his dad while still alive planting something similar to a cantaloupe but he called it mushmelon so I guess it's similar. They also had wild dewberries similar to blackberries.
Liz I hope you are getting a chance to relax this weekend.Stay cool.

Becky, my grandfather also called it mushmelon. It must be the same thing.

Kathy, how was the grocery store? You must have really needed those things to go on a Saturday. Did you go to the one up north that is usually less crazy?
Nice haul from the farm market, Chele. Did they mostly have fruit or did you not need any veggies with the haul from Second Street? What variety of peach did you get? Congrats on surviving the Amish pie and ice cream gauntlets. DF had hypertension and we weren't restrictive on salt, but I eat a lot less than I used to, even a few years ago. There are so many other spices that improve the taste of food without the added sodium.
Linda, I hadn't heard about the subway situation til you mentioned it. As late as she gets out of there sometimes, it may have been cleared up by the time Liz headed home. Hope, however, that it wasn't her line or she got on the road early.
Glad the Ortho seems to be working, Becky. Congrats on the blueberries and strawberries. Sorry your blackberries are sub-par right now. The ones I got on Tuesday weren't the best ones I've had this year, but they're fair. I usually eat berries once a day and they are the only berries I have right now so I'm making do. I've never had dewberries, wild or tame, that I know of. Is it like a wild blackberry? If so, maybe I have had them.
We had a pretty good t-storm roll through about 3 pm and dumped a bunch of rain. The thunder kept waking up poor Arya. She doesn't like loud noises and I think she's still a little spooked from the deer incident a few days ago. I think we are back to blue skies until maybe the middle of the night.

Our farmers markets are closed for summer. they come back in fall. 109 today but only 18% humidity.
Stayed in bed late...early this morning I had to take Zyrtec because the itch and hives came back...down to about one every three days now. It makes me a little sleepy, so I woke up later. One of these days it will just be gone..dr.s think...three of them.Endocrinologist agrees with me...effect from antibiotics.
Then went to TJ's for lots of produce, more bean and corn veggie burgers, cheese and a couple Indian frozen things I had a sample of....not spicy.
That made me think about the odd place nearby that has been there a while now, Curry and Scoops. So today's adventure was DH and I going for ice cream and a couple appetizers to try with dinner tonight which us a new recipeāLemon mascarpone risotto.

Hmmm, late and I am first this morning? Finished the tree pruning early this morning...pomegranate grows like a weed and one branch blocked the little Meyer Lemon tree. Both have thorns! What fun. City picks it all up at curb tomorrow morning. Then I made our breakfast brunch.
Pot toast today will be easy simmered in stove. Induction cooktop does not get hot, just the pan.
Even though it is hot weather for roast, there is no point waiting for cooler until the middle of Sept. It is sort of like waiting fir a warm day in February elsewhere.

'Curry and Scoops? What an odd combination, Linda. Is it Indian food and ice cream? Or ice cream with Indian food flavors? We cooked on top of the stove today as well. Too hot and humid outside to go anywhere.
We made ratatouille and okra with onions and tomato. I say āweā but I really mean āheā.
Karen, the farm market had veggies but we had gotten enough at the farmerās market.
Tomorrow should be a lot cooler. I will do my errands then when I can stand to be outside.
Waving to all.

I heard from Liz and she is in a great deal of pain this weekend. She did not get caught in the subway mess on Friday. Zoe had a good report from the vet yesterday and they are just having to deal with one small wound. Don't know if she'll check in. I'm sure she sends her regards to all.
Linda, Curry and Scoops sounds a bit eclectic. I know cows are sacred in India and their milk is supposed to be pure and lucky. But I just don't think I could eat ice cream after having a typical curry dish. I'll bet the ice cream would be quite good by itself, however. What appetizers did you get? Wishing meals would cook themselves is probably one reason we eat so many leftovers. Love the cartoon! How hot was it when you were out pruning? I wish we could get our pomegranates to grow. We sprang for the Russian variety because we can get a bit chilly in the winter. But they have not been happy here and we have maybe had one blossom and no fruit. Disappointing! Enjoy your roast. Will you make cold sandwiches from the leftover meat? What veggies will you cook with the roast?
We are expecting rain, so we got out on kayaks early. I pushed off about 8:30 and when I came back, Dale went. When he got back, he went for a swim, which was cut short because the first wave of rain got here earlier than expected. It was so humid when I was on the kayak that when there wasn't a breeze, my shades were fogging up. The wind was out of the north, so it really felt good. After my shower, I got the IP fired up with a batch of veggie bolognese sauce and then cooked CSA green beans and potatoes for Dale. Also did a load of workout clothes. With both of us as active as we are, we have at least one full load every week, sometimes two.
Waves to All! Hope you're having an enjoyable Sunday.

Karen, I don't add much if any salt to my food and recipes either. Congrats on the loss! Even a small one is a good one. Hope Dale didn't see his presents. DM thought she was going to have company coming so wanted to get a few things at the store. Turns out her company isn't coming now, but we decided to do the shopping anyway. The university store is always hard to figure on when it's crowded. It wasn't bad yesterday. I think there are more students there during the week days. It's been pouring on and off all afternoon. Some thunder too, but it's not severe. Thanks for the update on Liz, but I wish she was doing better.
Chele, good job on passing up the ice cream and pies. That ice cream would've really been tempting on a hot day! They were talking about cooler weather coming in on the weather forecast, but the weather guy said don't even think about it for our area.
Becky, I'm surprised they didn't have more space coverage where you are since Houston was so involved in it too. Our local channels have all had specials and it's been interesting since I recognize some of the people being interviewed.
Liz, glad to hear that you didn't get stuck on the subway and that Zoe is doing well. I'm so sorry to hear that you're in pain and wish there was something I could do. I hope you can take some leave from work until you can get some relief.
Linda, I wish dinner would cook itself too! I'm not expecting cooler weather here until maybe October if we're lucky.
