Hi! I have taken a walk and will go to yoga this evening. All my meals for the day are tracked and I am a little under, which is good because I was a little over yesterday. Even though I held back at the retirement luncheon, I had 2 small desserts which added up. I skipped my nightly Lindor truffle in penance. I was pleasantly surprised to find my weight unchanged this morning after having Chinese for dinner. Maybe my recent efforts are paying off and the scale is headed a little downward this week? Tomorrow's WI will tell the tale. I just checked out another online library book: Escape - "The dramatic first-person account of life inside an ultra-fundamentalist American religious sect, and one woman's courageous flight to freedom with her eight children. When she was eighteen years old, Carolyn Jessop was coerced into an arranged marriage with a total stranger: a man thirty-two years her senior. Merril Jessop already had three wives." Should be interesting! I will pick up Abby after yoga this evening to spend the night. Tomorrow morning we will head south to the coast. Camp time is usually when I really go off the rails with eating. I am resolving to keep things in check this time. One day at a time!

Pam I read that book and it was an eye opener. Nice that you didn't see any change on the scale.
I have some very sad news to share.....tomorrow we have an appointment to put Rachel our 20 year old cat down. She has been failing for some time now and we both realize that it's time for her to go and be with her siblings. Breaks our hearts to do this, but it is the only humane thing to do.

Awww... Ann, I'm so sorry! I have been in your position before and it surely hurts to say goodbye after so many years. Ours was about that old, in pain and nearly unable to walk and it still wasn't an easy choice to make. Goodbyes are hard. Rest well, Rachel!

Good Afternoon, WW Friends ~
Happy Thursday!! I am really having trouble keeping track of the days now. But luckily my computer and phone are good to remind me. Today I cancelled my free subscription to OnStar. I haven't used it one time in the almost three months I've had it so it seems ridiculous to pay for it!!
Today was lunch with my VBF where we sat and visited on the covered patio at Mr. B's Roadhouse for almost 4 hours. The waitresses there are used to us and just keep our iced tea and iced water filled, and we pay promptly and tip generously. It is never crowded so we don't feel like we're "taking up a table". The weather was in the low-mid 70's and couldn't have been more pleasant!! Sunshine and a slight breeze ....
Yesterday's "memorial service" was a surprise! We arrived at The Mansion and people were just milling about and getting wine, etc., from the bar and nibbling from an absolutely gorgeous hors d'euvre table - shrimp, veggies, cheeses, fruits, etc. We thought it was quite nice. We didn't know anyone there but the widower (a cousin of my DH and DBIL) and a couple of other people and each other. Then they called us into the dining room where a full dinner was served (3 kinds of salad, prime rib, chicken, mostaciolli, mashed potatoes, green beans and corn, etc.). There were also beautiful soft rolls. AFTERward we were directed to the library where coffee was set up as well as scrumptious desserts!! All this was completed by 3:30 in the afternoon!! No speaker, no eulogy, just eating and visiting. Quite the event!!
Right from there we went to DH's VBF's house and got the 6 Boxer puppies (now about 8 weeks old) out and brought them outside with us (and the 4 big dogs) and spent about an hour on the patio. We were just considering leaving when DH's VBF arrived home and we stayed and enjoyed a fire in the fire pit for several more hours. Time just flies when you're visiting with people you care about. Plus I LOVED playing with the puppies!! It was a beautiful day, not too hot and just a slight breeze. It was most enjoyable!!
We all three decided to postpone our planned dinner at Red Lobster since we had pigged out so much so late in the day. I think we are going to make it up tonight. DH and I decided we needed a little something before the evening was over, so we opted for PB&J and it hit the spot!! All in all a very pleasant day.
Ann ~ I am so sorry about your fur baby. I have also been in that position and it is never a pleasant one. My heart goes out to you but I applaud you for making the right decision for her!
Pam ~ Enjoy your overnight guest. Also enjoy your time at the Camp!
Judy ~ Have a great time in California! What an exciting reason to visit!
I am going to go and spend some time with my Kindle until DH gets home. Then we will get ready to go to Red Lobster which sounds wonderful to me!! I have some laundry started so I am somewhat productive.
BBL. Make a great day!!

We are taking Rachel to a new vet to have her put down. The vet at our regular place is off today, and neither one of us like the vet that was assigned to us. Time for a change!!!!! So, her appointment is for 11:30. We have heard lots of good things about this vet. What happened was the vet we went to was sold out to a company that owns lots of little Animal Clinics and they run it their way. We have seen it go down hill...so as I said...time for a change!
Pam goodbyes are hard.....
Sue thanks for the puppy story. That brought a smile to my face.
Just trying to distract myself.....

Good Morning!
Today DH and I celebrate 44 years of marriage. How the time flies when you're having fun! We will celebrate with a steak dinner at the camp. Abby has requested a hamburger instead of steak.
We had Abby spend the night so we could leave from here. But she forgot her iPad (a necessity for my sanity during a 3 hour drive!), hairbrush and detangle spray, so we will have to swing by her house anyway. Luckily, it's not too far out of the way.
I was down 2.7 at WI today. I know it's just water weight, but is a good morale boost to keep going.
Ann, you are in my thoughts and prayers today as you do the kind thing for your furbaby.
Sue, that memorial service, or non-service, sounded very nice. A celebration of life.

Good Morning, WW Friends ~
TGIF!! We had a fabulous dinner at Red Lobster last night. We all tried something new and proclaimed everything to be delicious! We also had a delightful server who used to work there and had waited on us before so we had super service. Both the guys took home enough for a snack, but I ate every bite.
I was scheduled to work 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. today in Summer Child Care. I arrived at school to find only 6 kids in the Kindergarten room - and 4 adults counting me! I was offered the choice of staying, or coming back home and returning later in the day. Since I only live 10 minutes away, I opted to come back home. I won't return until about 2 p.m. and then work until 5 p.m. so the afternoon person won't be alone during that time. That will enable me to get some things done around here and read a bit.
We are going to DH's VBF's house after work. His #2 son is coming home from across the state and he issued the invitation to us for supper tonight at his dad's. We had planned to go play with the puppies sometime this weekend anyway, so this will work out best. AND I won't have to cook (again!).
Ann ~ You are in my thoughts and prayers today. You were wise to choose the vet that you prefer.
Pam ~ I had wondered if Abby was going with you to the Camp since she was spending the night last night. Bummer about having to make the side trip to pick up her stuff, but I am sure it will be for the best in the long run.
I will go get some things done here and then sit for a while. I was sleeping SO WELL early this morning, and then woke with a start and found it was almost 7:30!! I felt rushed and I don't like that a bit.
BBL. Make a great day!!

Hi all,
Ann I am so sorry about Rachel, but you can comfort yourself knowing she had a wonderful home and lived to a very ripe old age for a kitty cat. Still, they are part of our families, and it is so hard to say goodbye. I'm glad you had a vet who was compassionate and good. Hugs and more hugs to you and your DH and Lula. xoxox
Pam, I enjoyed reading about all your activities and thoughts. I will check out the book you suggested. It sounds a bit like the Mormon story I have Educated: A Memoir. I'll let you know how that one is. Have fun at the lake and I ditto what the others said about your DH being so great at cleaning out the freezer, etc.! He is a good man. I loved the story of your "salad" days. It's nice to think that you have been with someone who knew you when you were so young together and happy anniversary! 44 years is a milestone for sure. We have 41, and plan to celebrate our 40th in Alaska next year. A little late, but hey, close enough!
Sue, those puppies sound irresistible. I wish I could hug them, too. They must be so adorable. I love that your DH has such a great VBF and that you also share in that entire family, too. They sound great and those fire pit chats are wonderful. Your trip away on Lake Michigan sounded like such a peaceful and fun retreat. Welcome back, or WB as Ann says! I am catching on to the shorthand! Your husband's cousin's memorial service sounds exactly the way I'd want it to be. Celebrating memories and sharing great food. That was quite a tribute.
We are headed to the Cape this weekend. We have a busy weekend ahead getting ready for more visitors next week with my DS, DDIL, baby, DS's best friend and his wife. I will miss a day or so of their visit because I fly off to CA on August 11th to stay until August 21st. I extended my stay a bit to help out. After that time, I will be home for the most part and summer will be winding down. We have one more trip and are headed to NJ to the shore house of my DDILs family so that DS can take us out on the new boat on the weekend of the 23rd. My DH really hates the drive to NJ through all that NYC type traffic and over the GW or Tapanzee bridge (it has a new name now- Mario Cuomo Bridge - and is a brand new bridge over the Hudson.) Our DS really wants us to go to NJ more often, but I think he does not realize that it's not an easy drive - especially for geezers like us! I will be working most of next week up until Friday so I'll be in touch and will try to keep you all posted from CA once I get there.
I am reading another book that is fascinating now, too, called Inheritance about a young married mom who finds out through her Ancestry.com results that her dad is not her biological dad. Fascinating. I am sure lots of folks are finding out all kinds of puzzling facts when they do the DNA tests.
I'll check in later, and again, Ann, you are in my thoughts today.

Thank you, Judy. The new vet was incredible!!!!!! When we walked in I felt like I was walking into a group of friends. Just what Carl and I needed. Also, our 'adopted daughter' Donna (her parents are the ones that take care of LuLa) came with us for support. God is good. Take care, all and again, thank you for you love and support. I felt it

Good Morning, WW Friends ~ Happy Saturday!! We have another beautiful day with lots of sunshine and low humidity even though the temps will go up to mid-80's. I don't plan to do much of anything today as I am tired. I've been up later than usual several nights in a row and I'm starting to feel it. We had another delightful fireside chat last evening. We got to catch up with DH's VBF's #2 son which was great! He was actually the one who invited us. His dad told him he'd cook him dinner and he could invite anyone he wanted, so he texted us and we promptly accepted. We had T-bone steaks done outdoors with rice, vegetables and coleslaw. All delicious!! The puppies were delighted with all the outside time they got as well as all of us on the patio. They played with each other, but spent equal time asking someone to pick them up. The big dogs are beginning to act a little jealous - but not in a mean way. They are just being more cuddly and begging attention (though they get plenty). Unfortunately the big dogs don't fit in a lap like the puppies do, so it is trickier. After supper the puppies all curled up and fell asleep, so before we left DH and I took them in to put them back in their big box ... and they were instantly awake! and crying! "No, we're not ready for bed, we were just resting for a minute ..... wait a second, let's talk about this!" It was pathetic. But it was their bedtime. Today I am doing the barest necessities around here and then taking it easy. I have grilled Turkey burgers for supper and not much else that needs my attention. I don't have any scheduled days at Child Care next week, though I do have lunch plans with some GFs on Monday and with my work partner on Thursday. Friday I am going out for a haircut and lunch with my GF/hairdresser. So, as Ann says, there is always tomorrow. BBL. Make a great day!!
