Good morning all. Slept well, just not long enough. Today I have an appointment for a manicure and pedicure and looking forward to having both done.
Can't believe this is the last week of July. This time is passing very quickly.
Other than the spa treatment, nothing pressing on the agenda.

Hi to AWF! DH was already hard at work emptying our big upright freezer to defrost it by the time I got up at 8:00 am. This old freezer, purchased at a "scratch & dent" sale at Sears in the early years of our marriage has been a godsend over the years. We pitched a few items, inventoried the rest and I told DH we won't have to cook for 3 weeks if we just eat prepared meals from the freezer. We did take out a package of leftover ham to go with some red beans for dinner and I kept out some chicken & sausage gumbo for lunch. I started laundry when we finished with the freezer (lots of wet towels!) and then went to a gentle yoga class. Afterwards, I did grocery shopping and dropped off my hospice notes from last week's visit. My supervisor reminded me of the retirement party for one of the nurses on Wed. She was a hospice nurse in the past and cared for my mom, then later became the home health director of nursing. She is excited to retire and spend more time with her DGKs. I have been working on laundry since I got home and only have 2 loads to go. Later, I'm planning to go back to town for a more strenuous yoga class with the other instructor. I am currently listening to the audio book of The Alice Network by Kate Quinn and it is very good. Ann - I could use a pedi, but don't know if I will manage to get one this weekend while we're at the camp. We're planning to bring Abby with us as her consolation prize for not getting to go to Michigan. Since the beaches are still closed due to a giant algae bloom, we will have to find other entertainment. There is a splash pad in Bay St. Louis, a movie theater in Waveland and a children's museum in Gulfport (roughly an hour's drive). Will have to see if a pedi for Grammie is possible. The one I had in MI didn't hold up very well. I love a citrus scent and have both lemon and Citrus Bliss that I use in the diffuser. Judy - Where in Colorado does your nephew live? We will be going to Canyon City in a few weeks for DH's 50th high school reunion. Your salad sounded wonderful! I hope you are easing back into the work groove today. Sue - I hope you are lakeside and "breezy", my DD1's term for relaxed and carefree.

Back from getting my mani/pedi. I got a light blue with sparkles Makes me smile when I look at them. Pam that sounds like fun to take Abby with you to the movie theater museum and splash pad. I'm sure she'll have a blast. Hopefully you'll be able to fit a pedicure in. DH is a keeper already defrosting the freezer We just finished supper and a short hood walk. I'm all jammified, so won't be going back out till tomorrow. Waving...and sweet dreams.

Good morning girls. Slept much better and longer last night and happy about that. Going to be another hot day here. We were supposed to get rain yesterday, but that never happened. Sometimes the rain cools it down and other times it makes it more humid. Not sure what's on the agenda for today. Carl has a dental cleaning...maybe a little 'retail therapy' after that

Good morning!
I woke all set to get in a good walk this morning, only to find it was raining and predicted to last pretty much all day. We had a big rain yesterday evening and I got soaked going to my car after yoga.
Speaking of yoga--the sad saga continues. The owner of the now-defunct yoga studio, Tonya, sent a threatening email to her former co-worker, Teri, who is now teaching our basically free classes at a conference room in a local business. Teri was literally in tears as she read a statement to us regarding the points addressed in the email: we practice in that space at the discretion of the business owner, classes are free, she is not licensed (not required in this state), is not an employee of XXXStudio (now defunct anyway) and doesn't carry any insurance(the business where we practice carries liability insurance), if others would like to lead the class they are welcome to do it, any donations are used for XXX, she does not hold any animosity toward anyone, etc. I am now probably the only one practicing yoga with both instructors and, judging by the way a classmate was treated when she tried to discuss the situation with the former owner, if she finds out I'm attending both classes, I will probably be unwelcome. The whole situation is so upsetting to me as I like them both and like the flexibility of having several classes to choose from as my schedule permits. Tonya has not addressed the situation with me and only says she "appreciates" my attendance in her class. I have assured Teri that I am staying out of the middle of this situation and will not discuss her with the former owner. I have decided that if Tonya approaches me about it, I will suggest she sit down with Teri and discuss things calmly. Experience has told me that any attempts to mediate will wind up with both of them mad at me.
I slept very well after 2 yoga classes yesterday and feel good today. Since outdoor activities aren't available, I will clean and mop floors today and hope DH doesn't go in and out too much. We will be having spaghetti and salad for dinner tonight. DH has a meeting that will last several hours, so I will probably dine alone. Since we don't have RCIA tonight, I will go to a 4:30 yoga flow class with Tonya.
Have a great OP day!

Hi all, It's a hot and humid day here in Central MA today. I made it through my first day back pretty well, but I was tired from catching up on a zillion emails and doing other things that have been neglected in a week. My boss is on vacation so it's fairly quiet and I can get the tasks done. Pam, my nephew and his family live in Grand Junction, CO. My other brother's daughter and son lived in Ft. Collins and now Denver so I have several family members in that beautiful state. I did not know that your DH is a Colorado native. I sort of pictured him as a southern gentleman. Wow, you have a lot of drama over the yoga saga. People are the same everywhere and always squabbling about issues like that. I feel badly for Terry. The owner of XXX sounds pretty disgruntled. I am sure she feels her clientele was "stolen" but not much you can do about that. Goes with the territory. I think you are smart to stay out of it. You know what they say "No good deed goes unpunished." So true! Sounds like Abby will have a lot of fun between a children's museum and splash pad and more. We also have algae blooms in some of our local lakes here. I saw it in the paper today. I'm sort of sad because one of my dearest work friends is retiring on Friday. There is a huge party for her tomorrow. She is like a walking encyclopedia of our university and works for the president. I will really miss her so much. She and I have decided we'll be doing dinners together in the future. She, on the other hand, is counting minutes until she retires! So excited, and I don't blame her. She is just a little older than me so I am losing another peer. My time will come, but I don't feel ready yet. I need the routine and I like to know I have somewhere to be every day. I am sure I will try to find the same in retirement, but I can be famous for lollygagging around when I don't have anything to do. Ann, your nails sound so pretty. Light blue with sparkles! Mine are a coral color now. Not much in the way of sparkles but I love that stuff. I have a new book to read called Educated: A Memoir. Anyone read it? My niece read it in her book club in CO. Sue, I hope you are having a great time on the shores of Lake Michigan, and I hope it is cooler there. I am heading out to California at the end of next week to see my little dgd off to kindergarten. She starts on August 15th. I''ll be gone a week. Booked my flight last night. I can't get enough of those little kiddos. I meant to add that the park where that awful shooting took place at the garlic festival is one where my DD often takes her kids. They were there last weekend (Gilroy Gardens) and had planned to go on Sunday. Thank God they did not go then as that is when the incident happened. What is going on in our crazy world? I went to WW this AM and am up one lb. Not bad for all the eating I did - uncontrolled - on vacation. Working on moving the number down...again! Tonight I have a dinner at the 99, Ann. I can pick a healthy choice there. Take care all!

Judy you will know when you've had enough and ease into retirement. That isn't bad at all, Judy to be up just 1# after vacation Oh I love the 99. We have a gift card to use and also one from Olive Garden Enjoy We did a little retail therapy today. Stopped at a small consignment shop in town and I found a brand new pair of ozero gloves for 1.00 The gal in there cracked up as it's hotter than you know what out there. They will come in handy in winter It's thundering out right now and it was pitch black. Now it's still thundering and the sun is as bright at bright can be. Such strange weather. Take care and will chat tomorrow. I don't trust this weather pattern and want to shut down LOL.

Judy - I know Grand Junction well as my late inlaws lived there. Such a nice area to visit! Lots of fresh cherries and apricots in late summer and lots of wineries to visit, lol. We also took day trips to Moab, UT from there as well as Colorado National Monument. DH grew up in a little mining town, Gilman, that is now a ghost town near Leadville. He jokes that his history is disappearing as his town is gone, so is his beloved Abbey School that was in Canyon City and even the state university where we graduated changed names.
I know the feeling of abandonment when all your best work friends start retiring. It made me so sad for a while, as I wasn't ready to retire yet, but missed my lunch companions. It will get better and you will have other (younger) friends. When it's time to retire, you will know. I was ready when I left and never looked back with regret, only fondness.
I am so glad your family was spared the awful tragedy at the Garlic Festival! I remarked to DH that this is a head and heart problem, not a gun problem. When you think about what has changed over the past 50 years or so, it's not guns. When I was in high school, guys came to school with hunting rifles in their pickups and no one ever thought of pulling them out and shooting fellow students. Graphic violence in movies and video games has de-sensitized people toward violence and the "Me First" attitude has replaced "God is first, others are second and I am third". We don't respect each other, the lives of the unborn, the elderly, nor those in prison. What I need and feel and want are all that's important now. That's what has made a difference in our world in my opinion. Now, I'll get off my soapbox!
I'm with Ann, 1 lb. is nothing after a vacation. Just keep on keeping on and you'll be fine.
Ann - I love "treasure hunting"! I'm glad you found a bargain and you'll be using those gloves before you know it.
Got in a yoga class and cleaned and mopped the floors in the livingroom, hall and kitchen.
Have a great evening!

Good morning all. Pam I feel the same way. There truly IS no respect for anyone or anything today. It's a 'me me me' world. I'll get off my soapbox after saying...the world changed when they took GOD out of the schools...nuff said!
Today we will hit Marshal's and the $ Tree right here in town. Other than that...it's all up to how hot it gets.
Wishing AWF a great day!

Hi All,
Pam, I so agree with all you said about our sad state of violence, and I believe that mental illness is at the root of all of it as well as the callousness and indifference people have come to feel about life in general. So sad.
I am cultivating younger friends at work. LOL I remember my mom doing the same when she was in her 80s and 90s - her friends got younger and younger! :-) Also, funny you should mention Leadville way up the mountains, right? I had another nephew living there as well! Small, small world. My DN who visited is from MA, but went to CSU in Ft. Collins and that's where he met his now wife whose entire family lives in and around Grand Junction. THey love it there and he is quite the gardener, camper, outdoor hiker, bicycler and all that good stuff Coloradans do. I did not realize you went to college in CO, too. How did you wind up in LA? Were you from that area? Sounds like you were. I hope to get to Fruita, where my nephew lives (outside of the "Junction") to visit before too long. I just love spending time with all of them. Oh, they were married in Fruita and their rehearsal dinner was at a beautiful winery. We have also visited the Colorado National Monument and Unaweep (sp?) canyon, too. We've also gone to Moab and all through Utah to Bryce and Zion, too.
Ann, hope you have fun at Marshall's and $$ Tree. That Dollar Tree is the best one of all --every thing really IS a dollar. I buy cards and gift bags and stuff like that there. Can't beat it.
I had a nice dinner at the 99 with my pals last night. We all chose a new item on the menu - a 7 oz NY Strip Steak which was quite good. I had mine with a baked potato and corn. We all had a margarita beforehand. It was one of their specials, but I don't think they even put any booze in it. We chuckled but for a couple bucks, what can you expect? :-
I watched more of Broadchurch which I have been re-watching again! My reading has not made much progress because I am too tired from all the heat and work, etc. to have much time to read anything but a couple pages and I pass out in bed. lol
Have a great day all. I'll check in soon.

Good Morning, WW Friends ~
Happy Hump Day!! We are back from a great time on the shores of Lake Huron (east side of the state). We enjoyed great weather and only had rain while driving back home. We altered our plans a bit and packed up the car early Monday morning then left for our day trip to Port Austin (at the very tip of the thumb) then drove due South home from there later in the day. It made more sense than to double back to Lexington just to sleep and drive home the next day. We arrived home in time to unload and unpack most everything.
We had a great deal of fun roaming around Lexington and shopping. We enjoyed Music In The Park Friday night with the addition of a 90-year-old gentleman from a nearby town who chatted with us and shared stories and photos. Saturday I found some treasures while shopping. We had a great dinner of DH trout and me whitefish at the newly restored Cadillac House. Unfortunately the play at the Barn Theater in Port Sanilac was cancelled due to a water problem. The director told us it had been cancelled the previous week due to a power outage. Tough luck!!
Sunday we lollygagged (what we do best LOL) around town and on the property where we stay and enjoyed the beautiful weather!! We walked most everywhere so got lots of steps in - good idea with all our ice cream treats. We took plenty of healthy foods with us so we didn't totally derail our efforts. We went out for pizza on Sunday evening. The place we had planned to eat closed early and we didn't know - so we went somewhere else and had a FABULOUS pizza! Such a great surprise.
Judy ~ I feel your sadness about your co-worker's retirement. I was fortunate enough to not have to experience that. By the time retirement was near, we were self-employed and I am glad when I hear your stories. I do, however, lose friends at school now and then. But I guess that goes with the territory. I have to chime in that 1# is absolutely GREAT!!
Pam ~ So sorry about the ongoing saga with the yoga studios. Doesn't sound like adult behavior at all. I am so sorry for you being caught in the middle ..... and yay! to you for not getting in the middle :-) Your DH sounds like a prince - defrosting the upright freezer and all. Mine did that recently and I was so happy!
Ann ~ I have to totally agree about the problem being taking God out of school (everything!). That definitely contributes to the lack of respect in our society. We had thunder yesterday as well. When I got up this morning, the back cushions were off our front porch chairs (and they are secured with velcro) as well as my porch pot was topped over into the flower bed. No idea what went on during the night, but it looks like someone ran through my porch and flower beds??
I am going to start getting ready. We are attending a Memorial Service for my DH's cousin's wife today from 1 until 4 o'clock. No idea what to expect, but hopefully food will be included. We are making plans with DH's VBF to go to his house while we're close by and play with the Boxer puppies for a bit. We may also meet him and his DD for supper at Red Lobster in the evening. So many fun things to do .....
BBL. Make a great day!!

Judy that was a great choice you made at 99 Restaurant. Speaking of reading...I'm having the same problem. I open the kindle, get all situated on the section and 'take a nap' LOL. OH well....at least what I'm reading I own, so no need to rush to finish it before it gets poofed. Been such a long time I don't even recall the name LOL.
WB Sue. Sounds like you and DH had a wonderful vacation. I also love to lollygag around. It's one thing that Carl and I excel in LOL.
Gee, wonder what happened on your porch? Could it be a bear or other animal? I know where we live people have seen black bear roaming around. We've only actually seen them twice in the 12 years we've been here. Enjoy your fun day.
Well, I need to get a move on. I took one quick 'hood walk' earlier this a.m. and it was HOT. I won't go back to walk till the sun goes down.
Pam sorry you got caught in rain. Hate when that happens!
Take care, all!

Good morning! I am procrastinating while I should be walking. And it will only get hotter out there, lol. Later today, I will attend the retirement party at the office (which will be a BIG food challenge, so I really NEED the walk!) and go to choir practice at 5:30. DH will make a stir fry for dinner with leftover steak, broccoli and other veggies. It's not bad on points, but oh, the sodium! I am mentally preparing for a 2 lbs. uptick on the scale tomorrow. Luckily, I will have time to wash it all out before Friday's "official" WI. Judy, actually, DH came to college here in Louisiana, where I have lived all my life. Because his mom was from LA and had attended a state university, he was able to claim in-state tuition. The University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette (Southwestern Louisiana Institute when his mother attended) was named #1 Party School by Playboy magazine at the time and that sounded good to him. He had already experienced a wild semester at Colorado School of Mines during which both he and his roommate majored in Coors Beer and flunked out. We met through some guys from my area who lived on the same floor in his dorm and the rest is history! He was taking whatever courses he wanted--Philosophy, German, Woodworking, Computer Science, etc. but got his act together after we got engaged and got a degree in Computer Science, with a minor in Math. I graduated in Dec. 1974 and went to work for the state welfare department, we married in August 1975 and he graduated in May 1976. He worked part-time and I made a whopping $648 per month. We ate LOTS of beans in those days and our entertainment was playing board games at home with friends who brought the beer. Happy memories! The University name was changed to University of Louisiana at Lafayette in the 1980's. So, DH's mom, DH and our DD1 all graduated from the same institution, but 3 different names on the diplomas. Crazy! I agree that untreated mental illness is a big problem. Many of the drug addicts and alcoholics are people trying to "self-medicate". The rationale for closing so many beds in mental institutions was because people only need them for acute care and do much better with community-based mental health services. Unfortunately, the community-based services were never put in place and the money went to . Typical government mismanagement. Now, we will pay for measures to save these same people from overdosing. Ann- I used to shop Marshall's regularly, then stopped when the merchandise dropped in quality. I started again last fall and was pleasantly surprised to find several items I needed. Dollar Tree is my go-to for cemetery flowers, holiday decorations and small fun toys for the DGKs. Abby & Madison love the little puzzles in a tin. Happy shopping! Sue - I agree that currently, there is an attempt to remove God from everything. The problem is not with the government so much as it is with us, as citizens, allowing it to happen. When people want "prayer in the schools", exactly whose prayers are we talking about? Muslims, Jews, Protestants, Catholics, Hindus? I firmly believe if prayers and God are taught in the home and children are brought up in a religion tradition, there WILL be prayer in the schools. I have heard so many young parents say that their children don't like to go to church or don't want to go. I guarantee my mom didn't give us an option. If you lived in her house, you were in church on Sunday, period. It sounds like you had a great vacation. DH and I both love wandering around new areas and searching out the favorite spots of the locals. Enjoy your puppy time! BTW, DD3 has had marauding deer going through her backyard and eating her bedding plants. She feels this is because nearby wooded areas have been cut recently as new housing is being built. Could this be your problem? Time to get walking!

Pam enjoy the retirement party. I hear you on procrastinating. At times that's my middle name LOL.
Finished shopping and picked up paper products and a few greeting cards at $ Tree and nothing of interest at Marshal's. I know what you mean by Marshal's going down hill. Same deal here. I guess they smartened up and started to carry better brands.
Time to have a coffee and finish the last load of laundry.
