Pat, in my opinion it is time for the Electoral College to go. I agree. Any idea how the hell we can do that? Or, if we even have the power to get rid of them? If our vote, the popular vote, doesn't really count, and candidates "reach out to the Electors" why should you and I spend time voting? Or, standing on line to vote? So, when the results come in we can see how many people voted for a specific candidate but it didn't matter at all? What's wrong with this picture? Off the top of my head I'd say everything. No wonder this nut job is so confident. Lying and cheating is his forte. So discouraging. The Electors probably sit around pointing and laughing at us. You know what? We deserve it. We might have a voice and a vote but with both of those and a dollar you can put air in your tire if it's low. I'm sure it didn't make Hillary feel good knowing she got a lot more votes than that slime ball and yet he sits in the Oval Office. WTH? Ugh.

Don't look for the EC to disappear anytime soon. It would take a constitutional amendment to get rid of it, and you know that is not happening now. Most likely not even in our life time. I think there are a few states that require their electors to vote according to how the state voted.

The JA is getting nervous about 2020 and looks like he's pulling Guiliani out of his bag of tricks again. One nut trying to help another nut is my opinion. Guiliani should have savored his moment after 9/11 and faded into the sunset. Now he's just turned himself into another buffoon trying to curry the JA's favor. And for what? The JA may demand loyalty, but he doesn't give it to others. He'll throw anyone under the bus in a heartbeat. Rudy you're making a big mistake, and my guess is sooner or later it will come back to bite you in the a**.

tRump seems to be becoming more erratic and unhinged by the day and really seems to be going into a tailspin even more than usual. I do believe he is seriously mentally ill. Do you think Melania, Ivanka, Jr and Eric see this? Do you think they worry about it? It seems to me that if they do actually love him it would have to worry them. I don't think they give a flip about the country, but do they care about what is happening to him as he spirals down the rabbit hole or is he just a meal ticket?

nashville11, does his self-involved family see it? Probably not -they don't seem to see anything past their own noses.

They are too self-involved to see anything other than themselves. It never works to try and apply "normal" feelings to any of them. They are the poster family for dysfunctional IMO. At the rate he is unraveling though, there is no telling what more may happen between now and the election. I want to see him ousted from office, prosecuted by New York, and put into jail. But I think it is entirely possible we may see him end up in a straight jacket in the loony bin.

The situation is made so much worse with people like McConnell that have their own vain-glory and righteous agenda. They've all entered into a Faustian bargain with this nutjob.
Republican gerrymandering to secure electoral victories is legendary. I read an article that suggested the Dem nominee could win the popular vote by as much as five million and still lose the electoral college. It's insane.

Actually, the "King of Israel" and "second coming" was a retweet by someone else. But I'm sure he agrees 100% and that is what inspired his "chosen one" comment.
I have also had it with the Senate where these states with very low populations get the same two votes as the populous states. But we are stuck with it.

So, why bother voting? To make yourself feel like your vote counts? I'm tired of the lying, cheating, and deceit. This new species of Republicans are an abomination to the GOP. This ain't the Republican Party of your parents. They would not recognize it. They would recoil in horror.
I'm so weary of it all. Kenny Rogers is correct. You got to know when to walk away and know when to run.
I can't keep up with all this evil. 👺😲🤥
I don't even recognize America anymore. We were on the road to a progressive and inclusive society. Very scary stuff for regressives who would rather go back to the bad old days where minorities knew their place and stayed there.
Tiring.

We watched Michael Moore's 2018 documentary, Fahrenheit 11/9. Very, very disturbing footage of the Dem caucuses vote changing based on the electors voting their own preference, completely disregarding the votes of the people. That's why Hillary was the candidate, not Bernie.

The electors are human beings who are required to do a certain thing.
Does that mean they are going to do it? I'm required to do the speed limit. Does that mean I always do it?
Bad example because I do. Lol. But, you get the point. Lol.
The EC has to go the way of the spittoon.

Why do we bother voting? Good question. Here in TN I always know my vote is not going to count for anything. TN is going Republican, so my vote is a waste. But I vote because a lot of people made huge sacrifices so that I could. Of course if my vote is ignored, maybe they made that sacrifice for nothing. 😥

But if more had voted in the last election we wouldn't be in this mess. I know, the polls lulled everyone into a false sense of security. Everyone gives DT's organization grief at how ill prepared they were, but even they honestly did not think they were going to win. So why would they get ready to govern?
My state will always go blue, but I will always vote. I regard it as a duty.

The JA may be pushing his luck just a little too far. Even some evangelicals are upset about these comments concerning his being "the chosen one", and his retweeting about being the "King of Israel," etc. There may be a few cracks starting to show in his wall of support. At least we can hope. I really do hope someone will challenge him. I don't think any challenger is likely to win the nomination, but there is always the chance that they might begin to make some of his supporters start questioning him and even if they won't vote Democrat they might decide to stay at home and not vote for him. It's possible.

Joyce, I do understand voting because of the sacrifice women and men made for women to have the right to vote. I get that. I really do.
However,if we know our vote doesn't really count anyway, perhaps in this political climate it truly is nothing more than a feel good thing. KWIM?
If that's true I can think of a few other feel good things I'd rather be doing with my time.
If it's not a fair election, if things are manipulated, moved around, altered in order for the outcome to always be in favor of those who are altering stuff it's obviously not a fair election.
It's rigged. Illegal. A scam. An unfair waste of time. I'm not voting to feel good. I'm voting to have my vote count and to be counted.
It's a disgrace and those politicians, those God, guts, and guns politicians as well as those who support them are deplorable fools!
