Good morning all!
Ruth, thanks for the heads up on the hat pattern. You explained the issues with the pattern well, enough to make me realize that I probably will not at this time take that pattern on. I would have to teach myself how to crochet in the third loop, and with all you tubes it’s a struggle finding a YouTube that explains things in a way that I can understand. I am so thankful for those videos, but not all are helpful to me.
Actually I read some last night and then watched a football game. Think we are staying home today. Hoping I can play with fabric today. Ginny

Good morning Ginny, CJ, Meg, Phyl, Sue, and Betty. I hope you all will have a good and enjoyable week
Ginny, I keep forgetting that it's the football preseason. I haven't watched a game for two years now and I think that most people that stopped watching due to the Flag issue have gone back to watching. I don't know that any results from our boycott were ever obtained so I might have to put games on to keep me company while crocheting.
Well I finally got the ribbing part of the hat done. Gotta say she sure has an interesting way of making hats. I'm just going to make my own Christmas hat pattern after I finish this one. It will look the same only will be a whole lot easier and more sensible. I mean what is the point of doubling your stitch count only to go into the next row and decrease by a third.Doesn't make sense.I'm on the first puff stitch row now and I think she does the next row, which is the black in between the puff stitch rows, a strange way too...still haven't really looked at that closely yet but got a glimpse.
Cool day here so far but yesterday started cool and ended up way over 90. Men are still working on the neighbor's roof and there are several working so I don't know what's taking them so long.Really doesn't bother me but I was going to do some yard work but it would be noisy outside so that will wait

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well on this Monday of a new week I went grocery shopping today and ran a few errands, I'm always glad to get that done and get back home. Traffic and drivers are so bad around here, I just hate going out most of the time. Weather is cloudy and still in the 70s, I like it like this (just not cloudy all the time). After I got home I took my cutters out and cut some weeds out of the bushes they'd been growing in. I have more weeds to pull and take care of but at least those are done. There is a vine with thorns that was growing in this little bush that has been at this house since we moved here in 1954. It's just a small little bush, with white flowers in the spring and then green leaves later. I've never seen another one like it, so it must be an old variety. I try to take care of it just because it's so old. I haven't been doing any crafting, sadly I'm just not motivated. I'll get the feeling that I'd love to work on something, but then just don't have the mental energy to do it. Makes me sad sometimes because I know that if I'd just start working on something I'd probably enjoy it and feel better. Maybe I'll feel like it soon. Take care everyone!

CJ, well at our ages we need to do what is best for us and if you don't feel like crafting right now then do something you do enjoy.I sure need to get out and cut and pull some weeds too and I need to spry the thistles that are suddenly springing up all over the place. I'm glad to hear you got your errands and shopping done so you can relax the rest of the week. Dh and I will do ours on Wed or Thurs. Gotta go to the post office, a bank and grocery store and maybe Walmart.

HI GIRLS, SORRY I HAVE NOT BEEN HERE FOR AWHILE NO REASON WHY. HAVEN'T DONE MUCH CRAFTING.
YESTERDAY WAS THE PICKET FENCE IN PRAIRIE DU CHEN AND PIE DAY.THE SHOW AND TELL WAS OK.NOT AS GOOD AS OTHER YEARS.SEEMS THEY MADE ALOT OF SMALL STUFF. HOW MANY PLACE MATS,SMALL WALL HANGINGS CAN
YOU SHOW? I DIDN'T CARE FOR THE RUGS THAT WERE MADE.
I LOVE,LOVE THIS STORE BUT NOTHING JUMPED OUT AND BIT ME SAYING BUY ME,BUY ME. BUY ME,BUY ME. USUALLY I CAN FIND A FEW THINGS,. THIS IS THE SECOND TIME IT HAS HAPPENED,.THIS IS MY VERY FAVORITE STORE. THAT IS THE WAY IT GOES.
THE LADY WHO MAKES THE PIES IS KNOW FOR HER PIES.THEY TASTED OK. BUT DIDN'T LOOK AS GOOD AS USUAL. SEEMS SOME OF THE PIES FELL APART.
WE DID HAVE FUN.
OK NOW I DON'T KNOW IF I WILL GO TO THE RETREAT IN IL OR NOT.NITA WILL NOT GET A SECOND OPINION AND SAYS SHE IS GOING WITH OR WITH OUT ME.
SHE HAS GROIN PAIN SINCE BEING BACK FROM ALAKSA. SHE CAN DRIVE BUT IS HOP-A-LONG WHEN SHE WALKS.
I KNOW THE SYMPTOMS SHE IS TELLING ME IS DUE TO THE HIP.PAIN DOWN THE BACK OF THE LEG, FEELING LIKE IT WANT TO GIVE OUT.
AT THE CLINIC I WAS TELLING MY DOCTOR ABOUT MY FRIEND AND GOING ON THIS RETREAT. SHE SAID USUALLY GROIN PAIN HAS TO DO WITH THE HIP.
I AM NOT GOOD ABOUT DIRECTIONS AND DRIVING IN DIFFERENT STATES. WHAT IF WE GET BETWEEN TOWNS LIKE A HUNDRED MILES OR SO AND SOMETHING HAPPENS. THE WHAT DO I DO BESIDES CALL 911?
I DON'T WANT TO HAVE TO CALL DON AND SAY COME GET ME?i AM TRYING TO LET THIS GO AND PRAYING THE LORD WILL DO SOMETHING TO MAKE HER KNOW SHE SHOULD STAY HOME OR GET THAT LOOKED AT.
IT WAS NP THAT TOLD HER A STRETCHED MUSCLE AND 6 WEEKS TO HEAL.
WELL SHE ISN'T ANY BETTER THEN WHEN SHE CAME BACK.
THANKS FOR LETTING ME VENT.

Phyl, I'm glad to see you. I'm sorry your friend is still in pain and with that groin pain she's having she really does need to see a doctor. I bet they didn't xray either. Sure sounds like hip to me. I'm sorry too that you weren't able to find anything to buy and that the things being shown were not what you'd hoped and not only that but the pie wasn't as it usually is.I hope you will be able to get to the retreat but no I wouldn't want to travel all that way and to another state either.
Yes if a baby is left alone on what they now are calling play mats, if there's a loose thread they could pull that and still be injured by that yarn. But there are so many things around any home that can harm a baby.Quilts are ok as long as they're not used to cover the baby. My goodness how did our children survive and we didn't know about any of this? There sure are still a lot of people making baby blankets both crochet and knitted. One woman on my old thread on over 60's is making two ...one for each of her expected great grandaughters. Lots of people including young mothers in my crochet groups online are still making them also.I'm going to finish mine that are in progress but if no one wants blankets anymore I guess I won't start anymore. I still don't she why they couldn't be used while holding the baby to feed him or her or to rock the baby or just hold in while in church or something.I also hear that people are told not to put coats or snowsuits or even sweaters on babies and children in car seats so what about a blanket there?

Good morning!
Yes, I am going to be short just now, but have a lot to catch up on. Phyl, the way I see things I would be point blank honest with Nita. Telll her you would LOVE to go to the retreat and love spending time with her. But you have your own physical issues and really need to know if she is good enough to drive that distance, as you cannot help and do not want to call Don to bail you out if that is necessary. You are being totally honest, and can word it so that she feels you are showing the utmost respect for her. If you said that you were unable to help her with the trip, due to your own physical limitations, and do not want to be a liability to her- and THAT is why its important that she gets one more opinion from her doctor about her discomfort. Perhaps that will work. Sounds as though you did have a good day anyway at The Picket Fence. That is the quilt shop that was in the magazine, right? Sorry that all they had was smaller projects on display- but we all know that they are quicker to make and not nearly as expensive to buy. Glad you vented with us here.....that is what friends are for.
CJ- here we have an agricultural extension service that helps identify mystery plants. I would be curious to find out what that sweet little bush is that has been with you since 1954!! Or can you solve the mystery of its identity online? Glad your weather is better. Ok cloudy is not the best but at least it is not too hot. I have a feeling that when cooler temps are here to stay that your creative juices will flow again. And that you are just getting over being sick (and pretty badly sick at that, food poisoning is no joke!) well, the urge to relax and let your mind flow in a crafty way well, that might not happen until you are really back to being 100%.
Ruth, thanks for figuring out that hat pattern! Yup, it makes no sense to me why she would have you increase on one row and then decrease on the next. From what i am reading what you said is the way to go. There has to be an easier way.
Got DGD#2 coming here this am. Gotta go G

Good morning Ginny and all. Well today is a day you would love. High of 65, nice and sunny, no wind.
Yes I took out the first couple rows (after the ribbing) and made it as it should be made. I have the first puff stitch row and the black row that goes betwee the red and green puff stitch rows. Her way of making the puff stitch rows causes extra stitches so the black row is designed by her to get rid of the extra stitches but doesn't work well. There is a better way of making puff stitches so that they don't add stitches. Now the green puffs are supposed to end up in the middle of the red ones two rows back but I'm not sure they will so I'm going to try it and see and if they don't I'll go back to that red puff row and make it the way it really should be made.
I stopped working on it so that I could go back to the octo I'm making for youngest grandson. I need their things done before Christmas things. I need to find something to use as a makeshift head to that I can get those Viking horns on the hats in the right places. I saw plenty of styrofoam heads on Amazon but none children's sizes. I'll have to look at Walmart but in doing a general search I didn't see any on Walmart popping up. I guess I could use towels rolled up
Well back to work.

Oh and meant to mention that I'm so proud of my dh. He still doesn't eat as healthy as he should but he's doing great on portion control and has gotten down under that 200 mark. Now if he would only do a little more exercise. He has added some but not much at all

OK!! The octo is completely finished even his face. Now back to the Christmas hat. Making all those tentacles is boring but it lets you have time to think because you don't have to pay attention. Sewing them on is the hard part. They may not be perfecting evenly placed but I think grandson who will be 2 will love him. He's so soft and squishy.

There's a huge wildfire where we have land. Good thing there's nothing on ours but sagebrush and juniper bushes. WE'll have to drive out after the fires is contained to see if ours burned

Hello Crafters Ruth - I hope your land is O.K. and be safe if you and your DH go out there. It's great that he's working on his health, I'm sure he feels better. Glad to hear your projects are coming along. Ginny - Hope you enjoyed the time with DGD. I do have some photos of this little bush I should try to see if there is a website I could send them to for identification. There were some other older bushes here too that were so pretty but they were destroyed by cars running into the yard (this ties into my story below )) Phyl - Hope you can figure things out. I know I'd be nervous getting on the road if I didn't think I could make it through the trip. Well, there was a lot of excitement at the CJ59 house today, much more than I ever want in my life I have a 2 story house and mid-morning I was still upstairs (I go to bed late at night) and I heard a loud crashing/booming noise. I figured it was an accident on that dangerous road in front of my house. So I looked out of the upstairs windows but saw nothing on the road. So I went down my stairs and looked out a small window on the stairway and saw a car crashed in my yard right at my house! I saw a bit of smoke too and was scared my house was on fire so I got myself together (and I was shaking) and went outside. The car had crashed through the front yard of my 2 neighbors, driven over the side street beside my house, crashed through my wooden split rail fence and then ran into my chain link fence and hit the large (old) cedar tree beside my house. I guess the tree stopped it but it was only about 12 inches away from hitting my house. I was so shook up. The person driving the car supposedly had their heart defibulator go off and crashed. I never actually talked to the guy, but a lady saw the accident happen and stopped to help him. An ambulance came and took him the hospital and then a tow truck came to pull the car (a Hummer) out of my yard. The tow truck driver was nice and picked up all the bigger parts of the car. I went out afterwards and picked up all the small pieces (there were a lot) and pulled all the wood from my fence back out of the yard by my garage. I've left the pieces of the chain link fence laying there because some are heavy. I'll guess I'll be getting some new fences. There are parts of the wooden fence that need fixed, so I guess this will pushed me to get it done. The poor tree had a bunch of the bark scrapped off but it didn't break the trunk or limbs. This is a tree I had trimmed back about 4 years ago and I'm sure glad I didn't cut the whole thing down, it saved my house. I took a bunch of pictures and will have to get the police report so I can find out this guys name to get his insurance since I don't want to claim this on mine. What a mess. I'm still just shaky remembering the sound of the crash and seeing how close it came to my house. I'm thankful no one was hurt and the only damage was to property, but this is sure something I don't need to deal with. My older brother will help me with the police report and other stuff I know. He's a retired policeman. Have I mentioned lately that I want to get out of this house Take care everyone!

OH CJ, how very awful. I can imagine just how frightened and shaken you were when you heard that huge crash. I, too, am glad it was only property damage and no people hurt or killed...well maybe the driven was injured some. That man shouldn't be driving if he crashes when his internal defrillator goes off. Yes, please get his insurance info. They're the ones that need to pay for replacement of your fence. And hopefully your brother will not only be able to help with the police report but that he and other family will be able to help you in your house hunting and the selling of this one.Sounds like the sooner you get out of there the better.I hope you will be able to do something for the rest of the day that will help you relax after that awful experience

OH my!! CJ- I am so very glad that you are ok! That must have been a horrible experience for you today- last year it was the roof, and now this incident today. Knowing that your brother is a retired police officer, well I feel confident that the incident was handled properly and documented. Yes, you have mentioned that you want to move, and have struggled mostly with uncertainty where you would move to. There has to be someone who could assist you in finding the perfect place for you, so that you no longer have to worry about this kind of crazy incident. Make sure when your insurance adjuster contacts you that you are compensated for all damages, including any ruts in the grass or damaged landscaping. This is what we have insurance for, please do not be afraid to use it. BTW- it might be best just to let your insurance company contact the police for the accident report. Accident reports take a week or so to process and this should be the insurance company’s headache NOT yours.
Ruth, that is awesome news that Dh has taken a greater interest in his health and lost some weight!!! I am happy for both of you. Were you and Dh able to check out the brush fire? Hope you can find some styrofoam heads in the side you want. What about a balloon?? Guess you might have to try HL or AC Moore....see if you can get free shipping. that is good news that the octopus is done!! I think DGS will really love that. It sounds so adorable.
So, went for my walk....and then when DGD was here I took her for a walk to the duck pond. Guess I have a right to be tired. DGD was very good for me, and she is an easy toddler to care for. I am tired today, not sure why however. Just do not feel 100%. I was supposed to go to the beach with both Dd’s tomorrow am- just for a few hours- but we postponed the trip due to rain in the am. That is good, as I am kind of drained. I did get some crafting in today....I FINALLY made my pressing board- just stapled heatproof batting covered with a piece of fabric to a 30” square of 1/2 “ in plywood. It gives me a square portable ironing board, to use on the dining room table - or when we go away in October. Much easier than the ironing board, which is not the right shape for a quilt piece. So I am a bit tired, but did get some crafting done. I guess.
Hope Phyl, Sue and Becky had a great day Ginny
