Hi all,
It's another beautiful day here! Too bad I am at work, but I will sit outside under the umbrella table and have my sandwich/fruit and drink. I'm patting myself on the back because I came to work with a roast beef sandwich on Dave's Killer 70 calorie WW bread when a colleague told me she was headed to my very favorite deli for hot pastrami and could she bring me one back? I wavered really wanting one before I flexed that willpower muscle and told her I had a perfectly good sandwich and would pass. She is a fellow WW so understands! That's a victory for me--baby steps!
Sue, I monkeyed around with my Kindle last night and got it to power up and work. Now I have the new one arriving today but I may either send it back or save it. It was such a good deal but part of that discount hinged on my sending my current one back to Amazon. However, I am a longtime Kindle person and have two other much older models that I might see if I can send in as a return instead - even if it is a few $$ less and keep my working one and the new good deal since it's a matter of time before this one dies again. With my luck, if I return the new one, this one will go kaput next week. Your lunch with the Red Hats sounded like fun. And, thanks for the Kindle tips. I forgot that all my books are on the Amazon Prime site, too. Thanks for the reminder! And, yes, I have my Kindle app loaded onto the iPad and laptop as well as the actual device. Handy!
Ann, SO good to see you back after surgery. I'm glad it was day surgery and that you were feeling well enough to go to Outback afterwards. Thank goodness! Hope you are resting and recovering well today. Hugs.
Pam, I thought of you a lot. My boss is back and was telling me about his DFIL's difficult end of life time and how his hospice worker was a saint. That is you and you are helping so many people. I really admire what you do and know that not many of us are up to that task.
I'll start to work up my list for the party tomorrow and shop for most of what I need besides the fish products tomorrow night. Friends are bringing some appetizers and desserts which is great. That is a load off my mind.
I'll check in later on!

Good morning!
Ann - So good to hear from you! It sounds like all went well and now we can pray for your swift recovery and an end to all the problems of the past few months.
I am proud to report I have already gotten myself up, dressed and got my walk in. I thought going earlier would help with the heat, but I am as hot and sweaty as yesterday when I walked at 1:00 pm. I am cooling off a bit before taking a shower. It is so hard in the summertime to get hair and makeup done without sweating it all off in the process.
Yoga went well yesterday. It looked like I was going to have a private session until another woman showed up late. It was still good and I got some needed stretching done. My hamstrings have been quite tight after all the hours spent in the car traveling.
I returned home to find DH in a snit. He was trying to cook dinner and the electrical voltage was so low, the refrigerator light was dim and the tv kept switching off. We turned off the stove and AC and checked the electric company's fb page to find there was a fuse being replaced at our substation. We waited and waited. The electricity went completely off and we waited some more. I finally went out to walk the driveway and ended up chatting with the neighbors. DH came out about 7:30 to say he had received an automated call from the electric company. A piece of equipment was damaged and had to be replaced. Estimated time was 3-4 hours so we opted to head to town and had dinner at our favorite Hottails. There were other "refugees" from here and we had a pleasant time. I got grilled shrimp and veggies and brought 1/2 home for a lunch today or tomorrow. We got home about 9:00 and DH went straight to bed since it was still dark. I stayed up to put up the soup I had cooked (which was still in the crockpot)once the electricity came back on. I was blessed and about 10:30 it came back on. I checked to make sure the refrigerator and freezer were working, put up food, cleaned the kitchen, turned on the AC, fixed the coffeepot for this morning and then read for a bit before turning in. I slept well except for an extra bathroom trip caused by the beer I drank so late at the restaurant.
I woke this morning to find out the new hospice patient assigned to me yesterday passed away unexpectedly. He was a classmate of my sister's and I had dropped in to see him a couple of weeks ago before visiting my patient at the same facility. He was in good spirits, accepting of his stage IV cancer diagnosis and agreed with me that his focus should be on quality of days, rather than quantity, so that he could enjoy time with his family. He requested hospice care a day or so after our conversation and had thanked his hospice nurse yesterday because he was comfortable, they had diagnosed and cleared up a C-diff infection that had been causing him great discomfort and he was able to visit with his sister and children. No cause of death has been stated yet, but I am relieved that he was happy, comfortable and didn't suffer.
We are burying another local this afternoon, a classmate of my older brother's who also had cancer. I will sing in the choir and then head to BTR for a credit union meeting. Since I never know beforehand where we will have dinner, I must be careful about eating too much beforehand. I don't want to derail the progress I seem to be making.
Sue - Congrats on the Salvation Army finds. You helped someone while enjoying a successful "treasure hunt". We also have an Amazon Visa which we use exclusively for Amazon purchases.
Judy - I would be upset about the Kindle, too. Like Sue, I use my iPad with apps such as Kindle and Bluefire Reader, in addition to my library apps for reading and storing books. I can also use it to facetime, text, access internet, play games, etc. It's convenient to take with me on vacation, too.
Have an amazing day!

Good morning. Still have pain, still not feeling myself, still running a temp. So long as it doesn't go beyond 100.5 I'm golden. This surgery hit me hard.
Take care, all.

Good Morning, WW Friends ~
Happy Thursday! We woke to temps right around 60 this morning and it is beautiful out! I love, love, love having the windows open!! I could live with high 80 and low 60 all year if I had a choice. But, no, I'd probably tire of it eventually. I do appreciate the four seasons in Michigan, very much!
Ann~ It was good to hear from you this morning. You have been on my heart and mind. So sorry to hear that this surgery hit you hard. I will pray for a speedy recovery for you!! Please keep us posted.
Judy ~ Congrats on passing on the pastrami sandwich. That is huge!! Out of curiosity, where do you buy Dave's Killer bread? I keep reading about it, but haven't ever seen it. Glad I could be of help with the Kindle issue. I would also keep the new one, especially since it was such a great deal. I also agree if you send it back, your old one will decide to go kaput. I was going to order a new one when my Kindle Fire began having issues with charging - but then remembered that I had upgraded my tablet a while back, so I got out the old (retired) one and put the Kindle app on it and have been using it for a reader. So far it works great, and I still have my Kindle Fire for back-up. That way if I use a lot of my battery life on games, WW, etc, I can plug my tablet in to charge while I read on my other one on the Kindle app. So much fun, so little time <LOL>
Pam ~ What a terrible experience your poor DH had with electricity! Loss of power is one of my all time least favorite things - no matter what the season. I could feel for him and his frustration. I also recently used the DTE App and found out the status our our outage. It helps me not to fret and worry. Glad you had a back-up plan for supper. Sounds like it was great .... and leftover lunch to boot!
Yesterday I ended up changing our menu completely. I had some Mexican rice & beef in the fridge that I had made recently for supper (and we ate half) so I warmed that up and paired it with some corn kernels and grape tomatoes and avocado slices. We both enjoyed it very much! Now we'll have the Fettuccine Alfredo with shrimp for supper tonight. All's well that ends well.
All I have on my schedule today is to do my at-home pedicure this morning; then go have my fingernails done at 3 this afternoon. I will be back in plenty of time to let them dry completely before starting supper. Otherwise, I hope to get into reading my new book sometime in between.
BBL. Make a great day!!

Hi all, It's a beautiful day today. Warmer, but lovely. We had quite a big storm last night and driving home was not fun. It was a deluge and leftover from the latest tropical storm. Ann, I am sorry the surgery was a tough one and having a fever is not good. Do they worry about infection? Keep us posted on your progress. Rest and recover...I hope you are comfy and relaxed. Sue, yes, we do love our devices, don't we? I love that we are all readers. It's always been my most favorite past-time. What are you reading now? I bought The Pioneers by David McCullough for my book club. He's such a great writer and I will read it slowly since it's a big book and I suggested we read it over the span of two months instead of one. I'm hosting at the end of September. But, in the meantime, I am absolutely hooked on The Outsider by Stephen King. His writing ropes me right in. I know many find him too scary, etc., but his writing is so great. He seems to be able to crawl right inside your head with his ability to bring those characters so vividly to life. This one is more eerie so far than scary but I am sure that will change but I am about halfway through and things are heating up! I also downloaded a freebie on my Kindle from my Prime selections that I will read soon. It's a young adult National Book Award winner called Parrot in the Oven about a young Mexican American boy and his family as he comes of age and all the obstacles he faces. I cooked the first dinner from Blue Apron last night for this week. It was a middle eastern salmon dish and served with a barley dish mixed with carrots/raisins/olives and lemon curd. DH really loved it but the salmon was a little spicy for me and I love spicy. The salmon was topped with a garlic yogurt/vinegar and diced cucumbers. Tonight will be an Italian chicken with mashed potatoes and roasted veggies. Then there is a pork dish for the next night. What I love is that I don't have to think too much. lol Just follow an easy recipe and VOILA! And no leftovers to deal with, either. There wouldn't be much left and not worth saving. I do like leftovers for certain dishes, though. I went to my TOPS/STARTS meeting today. Much of the topic was about the gym and several are going nearly every day after work. I can't manage that. If I can just walk more, that'll make me happy. Pam, have a wonderful day and hope to hear from you. You are the yoga master and I know how good it feels to stretch those muscles. I'll BBL.

Well, I just peeked in to see if anyone had posted and ..... alas, not yet. But I've had a very productive day so far - got the house all in order & kitchen done up (it was my day to cook). Then I gave myself a pedicure; then polished my toenails. I scheduled both mine and DH's Annual Wellness Visits with our PCP for the third week of November. We have an "appointment" on the Monday after Labor Day to go for our flu shots at the County Health Department right near by. I also made the reservation for DH and his VBF and me to go to Turkeyville for the afternoon matinee (play) & dinner the second week of November.
I was a little hungry so I indulged in a Brownberry pocket pita (half) with tuna & egg salad and it really hit the spot! I was planning to have a Premier Protein drink, which I may have before I go to get my (finger)nails done. I have all of my meals pre-tracked for today and so far so good. I am thinking some LF NSA Vanilla ice cream (Kroger's Vividly Vanilla) tonight with a fresh peach cut up on top. DH brought home some peaches from the Farmer's Market which were delicious!!
Judy ~ I Googled Dave's Killer Bread and it would seem that they sell it at Kroger so I will look there. I also went on WW and found the regular is about 4 SP per slice whereas the thin is 2 SP, so that's what I'll be looking for. I can't wait to try it!! Maybe I'll stop at Kroger on the way to my nails since it's right on the way.

Good evening! I had a busy day today. Went into BTR for an Alzheimer's in-service training and the lunch was jambalaya and brownie bites. Yikes! I held it to a cup of jambalaya and one brownie bite, but was so hungry when I got home I ate some yogurt to tide me over until dinner. Dinner was our delayed Mexican dinner from Tuesday of Salsa Verde Chicken soup, beef tacos and stuffed jalapenos. I had steamed okra with mine. I ate one jalapeno and the first 2 bites were fine but the 3rd bite sent me rushing to the kitchen for some milk. Whew! I will be slightly over my calorie goal for the day, but not bad. After my training, I went by Merrill Lynch and dropped off a check for the college funds for the 2 DGKs who had birthdays recently, Jude and Anna. We decided doing it around their birthdays is an easy way to remember. I had planned to go by DD2's but she was tied up in meetings all day, so I stopped in Talbot's. I didn't find anything interesting, so I moved on to Whole Foods and picked up some fresh salmon for a dinner later this week. Next, I stopped by the hospice office to do my notes from my visit on Tuesday. I learned one of my favorite hospice nurses is leaving. The good news is she will be the new assistant director of nurses for my least favorite nursing home in our area. I told her I would only let her go so she can whip them into shape. She assured me she will do her best. She is young and eager and this is a big career boost for her. I had an hour or so to relax when I got home and then I headed back to town for yoga. We did ab work and I am sure I will be sore tomorrow, but it was a good class. The instructor said she will be there Monday, even though it's a holiday. I have no Labor Day plans, so told her I plan to be there, too. Judy - I just finished The Mother-in-Law by Sally Hepworth, which I thought was good. It is a murder mystery with good character development. The Shawshank Redemption is the only Stephen King product I have enjoyed and I only watched the movie and didn't know until recently that he wrote the book. I must tell you that your ability to pass up that pastrami gave me the courage and fortitude to keep my lunch portions small today. I love the support I find here! Sue - Dave's Killer Bread is my very favorite--especially the 21 Whole Grains & s Seeds and the Powerseed versions. I get the thin-sliced. To me, it just has a terrific flavor whether toasted or in a sandwich. I don't eat a lot of bread and DH prefers his Whitewheat, so I often keep it in the refrigerator so it lasts a really long time. Ann - I hope your fever and discomfort passes quickly. This one probably hit you harder because it was so soon after the last one. Treat yourself gently and get lots of rest. I will light a candle at church for you tomorrow.

Sue, so sorry because I meant to reply about Dave’s Killer Bread. I can get it at Stop & Shoo, Wegmans, Whole Foods and most of our stores. Glad you found it! I love my breads! I like the 60 or 70 calorie thin ones from Dave’s. I made two loaves of banana bread last night and will take one to work because DH and J have made a big dent in one loaf already and dangerous t keep around so I’ll share with friends at work.
I shopped after work for most of my party food for Sunday. I’ll only need to get the fish and s few other items Sunday am. That’s a relief. We will head to the Cape tomorrow night.
Have a great night all!

Good morning all. Well today is SHOWER DAY. Can't wait. Will wait till Carl picks up the mail. I had to order a surgical bra via Amazon prime as I need to wear a bra 24-7 till I go and see him. If this one works, then I'll order more of them. Hard to say how they will fit online and I didn't have the energy to go and try them on.
Other than that...KOKO for me. Just taking it slow and easy. I am happy to report that I took off 2.2 or the 2.8 that I put on during surgery. Amazing all the stuff they pump into you.
Take care and will try to pop in later.

Hi Ann and all,
I am so happy to see that you are feeling a little better today. I hope the new bra works out well. Hooray for shower day! I always feel so much better after a shower. And, great news on the WL. Yes, all those IVs do add weight when you have surgery! Plus I think just the general trauma of surgery throws the whole body into a spin.
Sue, I meant to add something before I forget. I found another bread that is great for our program called Schmidt's Old Tyme 647 Bread. I can only get it at one store around here, but I love it when you are in the mood for the soft Italian or WW bread that honestly looks and taste just like any good brand of thicker, soft bread - like Arnold's or Pepperidge Farm. I believe it is 1 pt a slice. Great with tuna or chicken salad, etc. I have a loaf in the freezer now.
I am at work - if you can call it that today - as it is a true ghost town! We will head to the Cape early this evening to start our party prep tomorrow. I like to get as much done the day before as possible.
Have a wonderful day all - it is a beauty here! And, enjoy the Labor Day weekend. I'm glad to have the extra day off. I'll check in later on.

Good Morning, WW Friends ~ TGIF!! We woke to another beautiful morning with sunshine and upper 60's. Our highs have been right around 80 and not until late in the day, so perfect weather for me! Ann ~ So glad to hear from you! Great idea ordering from Amazon Prime (I did the same thing yesterday). I can only imagine how much you are looking forward to your shower <LOL> It really IS the little thing in life that we take for granted. Congrats on your WL. Feel better ...... Judy ~ No worries about the bread - we cross-posted yesterday afternoon. I did take off to my nail appointment early so I stopped at Meijer and picked up my Rx and then still had time to stop at Kroger. They had several kinds of Dave's Killer bread including 2 choices in thin-sliced, so I got a loaf. I can't wait to try it! Bookwise I just finished "Alex" by Irish Winter and LOVED it! I have switched to something light called "Falling For You" by Julie Ortolon. Both were from my BookBub choices library. Speaking of Stephen King .... I used to be a huge fan! I just counted and I have 10 hard cover books on my bookshelf by him, including "The Shining", "Carrie" and "The Stand". I loved his earlier works, then when he switched to the Dark Knight era, I stopped reading him and just never got started up again. It was funny because one of the college students I worked with over the Summer was into his older books, and we had great conversations about them. He was currently reading "Pet Semetary" and I remembered when I read it the first time. Enjoy your weekend (I know you will). Pam ~ Thanks for the recommendations on the bread as well. I love to hear about new products for me to try. I got a loaf of the 21 Whole Grains & Seeds in thin-sliced and expect I will love it very much! I can't wait to try it. I am awaiting the arrival of my new Amazon Visa card (though I notice they have already put it on my account page LOL) as I have only one Visa and I want to cancel it. Everything else seems to be MasterCard these days and I just have a feeling I should have one Visa in the event someone doesn't accept M/C. I only use my credit cards when I shop online, and choose the card by the perks they are offering me, then I pay them in full each month. I also did not know that Stephen King wrote "The Shankshaw Redemption", thanks for the info. So, I ordered a new cover for my tablet because the "hand-me-down" one I had on it was wearing out in more than one spot. Of course, I went on Amazon and found exactly what I wanted! It happened to be exactly like the cover on DH's tablet so I ordered it in dark blue (his is black). We keep our tablets on the same table plugged in to charge (in between our two LazyBoys). It arrived this morning (already!) and I have put it on and it is going to work out great!! Being blue, it won't present a problem with one of us picking up the wrong one. The other leather case went on my older tablet that I use as a Kindle reader and it works great as well. I do love the fact that I was able to track my purchase on Amazon and this morning it showed me exactly where the driver was and how many stops he had, so I waited and sure enough, in a matter of minutes it appeared at my front door and then on my Amazon page there was a photo of it on my front door mat. Today I am going to meet my niece at The Olive Garden for lunch, so I want to leave early and stop in the big mall and look for an item I need for a birthday gift; and then I will stop at Sam's Club after lunch while I am out that way. That will take care of several errands while I'm in the same neighborhood. BBL. Make a great day!!!

Just got off the phone with my surgeon. He called to see how I was doing. I told him that the implant feels warm to the touch and a little pain. He called in an antibiotic which Carl picked up. I don't 'play well' with those as they give me stomach issues...but nothing much I can do about it.

Hi sue
I swear I just read a posting by you when you talked about Stephen King's earlier books which are also my favorite. But now that post is gone!! Once he wrote the Stand, he lost me, but his last few have been getting back to his earlier style. I think you'd like The Outsider. Also, I enjoyed the Detective Series he wrote with Finders Keepers and the other one. There are many I did not read, but I'm a huge fan of the ones I have! You are right on the ball with the flu shots lined up. We are still waiting to get our shingles booster shot and they are always out of the serum when we check.
This place is emptying out very early with labor day. Have a great labor day all!
