Hi!
Finished my paper for A la Carte class (it's the school restaurant class). We had to do a paper on a restaurant in the city and I did it on what I think is the best restaurant, chef/owner was a former Bravo top chef winner. Just need to work on the bibliography.
After 60s, 70s temps, it's been really cold and now we might get 8-12 inches of snow on Tues! That might mean school cancellations. I have a la carte Tues night, prepping for the restaurant for Wed/Thurs. That could screw everything up. We don't have time to prep everything Wed and do service at the same time.
Jojo, I figured you must have been busy with DGKs. You must be exhausted running around after DGS4. Oh yes, PBS started the cooking shows. I loved Cooking with Juliet Childs, and Frugal Gourmet, a bunch of other oldies.
Joan, I read Candide many years ago. Your food is always very healthy! I miss Valerie, I'm sure she is as crazy busy as ever. I love string beans, I make it the way my mom does, slow braised in soy sauce and a little oil - it is so good. The beans are soft but not falling apart and is very flavorful. It is a technique that I think finally now I think I got it down right.
Went to the gym, am watching the series Legion right now on xfinity on my phone. Weight at 118.9 this morning.

Sue - stay warm! Strange weather! Hope your school schedule doesn't get off too much. I wonder if those Julia Childs are on Netflix. I will have to check that out.
Green beans are one of my favorites too. I cook them in the pressure cooker.l
Joan - I used to make a similar recipe for bread, call Boston brown bread - but has sugar and is a little too sweet for my bread taste now. I would love to have that recipe that you have if you get a chance to post it!
Holly - let us know how the medical test goes.
Exercises done!
Cold here today. 37 degrees!
The Bison is good for a change but not something I would want regularly. It has a little of a gamey taste and it is very expensive. That is why I don't have much of a taste for Vinison.

That's neat, JoAnne--I just read another article today and there is a budget cut that would take money away from the National Endowment for the Arts--which funds documentaries like the Ken Burns docs on various periods in history such as his one on The Civil War. I don't get it.
Last night I started watching the PBS series, Sherlock---I've seen a couple here and there but never watched from the beginning---have a friend who is a fan.
I did only one class this morning---the dance and balance class. On Mondays we do 30 minutes straight no breaks of dance---I worked up a sweat today! But today is the best I've felt in 16 days--I did not need a breathing treatment this morning. OMG, hope this continues.
DGD16 had such a successful weekend with dance--she auditioned for the final showcase number at a dance convention and was chosen--only 21 kids from hundreds were in it--they worked with this choreographer from SYTHYCD from NYC for hours and performed at the awards finale---wow---was an intense dance---from that group they choose a MVA--most valuable artist and a runner up MVA===she won runner up. That gives her a week for work with the Rockettes this summer the week after her Alvin Ailey work shop for free---she will most likely stay the extra week and do it since it's a great opportunity for more free training.
Sue you should share your paper with the restaurant that you did it on---seems it would be a really big compliment.
I miss hearing from Valerie as well---but I do follow her activity on FB although she doesn't post a ton. I've not heard that they sold the beach place but maybe they did and I missed it.
Remember Susan Harvey from TX? She is visiting in Cabo and just posted a picture---she and her husband had one of those minnow pedicures today or yesterday!
Aimee seems to be doing okay--has a new dog--all white beautiful and huge!
All my updates. LOL
I have a manicure today so guess I'd better get off this ipad and change clothes---still in gym clothes.

Hi all,
Cold and dreary. I appreciate these days off, but have been bored. I need to find an interest group to get into. I used to be in a knitting group and a bible study, but they both dissolved and there hasn't really been anything else.
I am counting down the hours til I can have coffee in the morning after this test is finished.
Got most of my tax stuff together. It feels a lot more straightforward than it did when I had several part time and freelance gigs.
Joan, when I read Ender's Game the first time, I didn't really know much about the rest of the series. So you probably could read it as a standalone.
Sue, you will be finishing up the program soon, right?
JoJo, I am finishing up a knitted Swiffer cover with some KnitPicks Dishie yarn. Will be interested to see if it holds up ok.

Hi!
The day got away from me yesterday and didn't get a chance to post. Finished my Dessert and Plating notebook that I need to submit tomorrow.
Well, there is not as much snow as predicted but it's icy and potentially a second round of snow later. No school today, so I don't have to go in tonight. Not sure what is going to happen with my A la Carte. I'm thinking maybe Wed night with the last of the snow clearance that there will be cancelled reservations, at least I hope so. I have some dessert left over from last week in the freezer, but most of the other stations, salads, soups, appetizers and entrees have to have a lot of prep.
I've been procrastinating doing more school work so far today, must get to it soon.
Jojo, I like bison and venison. The venison I get is not too gamey.
Joan, glad you are feeling better. Your DGD is an amazing dancer! Thanks for the update on the SSGs
Holly, I can't wait for the day that I can be bored! When is your test so that you can drink coffee again?
Hopefully, this is my last week of school. The grades have to be submitted by next Monday, latest next Wed, so it depends on my Dessert chef whether he makes me come in next Wed/Thurs for class. We have a final practical tomorrow and a final exam on Thurs, but that was dependent on some students doing their practical Mon/Tues instead of Wed (space and equipment issue). With school closed today, Thurs might be practical instead of final.
Well I am enjoying no school day today!

I was able to have my morning coffee this morning. It's more than just caffeine. There's just something about freshly brewed coffee every morning.
Sue, I'm you're ready to be finished and are excited about the trip.
It was quiet at the library today. It is Spring Break for professors and students, and quite a few people are on vacation.
Looking forward to going to Baltimore next week for a conference. I've never been there. The conference and hotel is in the harbor area, which I hear is nice.

Holly - I agree - I would miss my coffee in the morning so much -The caffeine is not a big thing - just love the taste of a cup of coffee in the morning. I have really gotten used to flavored coffee too! Hope your tests went well.
Sue - you must be wintding the school quarter up with the paper, tests, etc.
Hi Joan!
Have been packing for the trip to Houston but still haven't gotten my car back. The roof came in from Calif. and it was broken (or so they say) so if they don't get it and get it installed, they will put the old one back together and somehow seal it so we can travel and will get it replaced when we get back. I HOPE they have it completed! before we leave on Sat.
Holly - the Swifter covers that I have made are great. The cotton holds up great and acts as a wonderful dust catcher. I just toss them in the washer after using. There are TONS of patterns. The two that I made are from different patterns. Will probably make more when I get more yarn. I did in dark colors - a grey and a brown. I love crocheting with cotton.

Holly - what are the dates again that you will be here? I am going to try while in Houston to get DDIL to make their plans for when they are coming.

Have to get to bed soon but a quick note--took Jordan to the dentist---OMG, he has about ten bad fillings--one of them may be too bad for just a filling---it is his front tooth--we go to a special dentist there on Friday who will try filling it--he is a specialist for very large fillings who comes and volunteers a couple days a month there. I have a referral for an oral surgeon to pull two bottom teeth---one is broken in half, the other had a root canal a couple years ago---and was never finished--so of course now the whole tooth is infected--his dad had taken him and didn't have enough money to do the crown and then became ill with hepatitis and died--DD and I never realized that it hadn't been finished.
I got home pretty late so Dh and I just ordered and picked up from Panera's. Tomorrow is book club---haven't done anything other than buy the potatoes--wow, I have a lot to do tomorrow. Am going to go to the gym tho' anyway.
JoAnne what day do you leave for Houston? How long will you stay? Weird about your sun roof? Is this at the dealership for your car?
BFs brother and SIL called us and are coming to surprise her for her b'day on WEd. And we will pick them up at the airport---will be so fun! WE are not telling BF or her DH so it will be a total shock. BF turns 70--her kids aren't seeming to do anything special for her so this is neat. We will go out and shock her and take them out to lunch and probably end up with dinner here that day. Have to figure out that.
Yoga was so hard today---I was wiped out afterward. Just don't know when this stamina level is going to improve.
Nice to get a day off, Sue! Even if it did take snow warnings and some snow, too, I guess.
Holly, were you fasting for a blood test?
Ok, I really need to crash---'nite all!

Hi all,
I'm really enjoying having my exercise equipment here at home. My coworker told me today that she wants to start going to a yoga class in April after we finish with the upcoming conferences.
JoJo, the meeting is from May 30-June 1. I'm not sure yet if we will stay the whole time or not. The meeting is at the Baptist Historical Society near Mercer University. I hope we get a chance to meet, but it looks like it's on the other side of Atlanta from where you are. Hope you can get your car back!
Joan, I hope they can fix the teeth without too much extensive work. Don't overdo it with the exercise. It wasn't a blood test.

I just ordered the book "The Brain Warrior's Way" and a cookbook "The Brain Warrior's Cookbook" after watching a show on PBS about it.
Yes, the car is at the dealer. Guess I'll find out tomorrow if they are going to get it fixed before the trip or not. Leaving Sat.
Went and got hair cut today.
Got to go to bed myself.

Just finished cleaning up after bookclub--we had such a good evening---baked potato bar was easy and went over well--everyone loved the brocolli salad---with the brocolli just cut from the garden it was really tasty. My cohostess brought a ton of berries and the blackberries were just amazingly good---ate a couple small bowlful. Everyone seemed to like the berry scones with lemon curd along with the berries on the side---so that was great.
We all had read Nightingale so it was easy to chat about it. We also talked about other books--we will do The Handmaid's Tale in May--it will be a challenge for a couple who tend not to like dystopian novels. Because it was our anniversary meeting---14 years together as of this month--I read from our first book to our last and we all shared a thought or two about each one---was fun--there are five of us that come regularly that were in this for the whole 14 years---but most of the others here tonight have been at it for at least 12. Hard to believe it!
So tonight I had a part of a miniscone I made and I had a little drizzle of lemon curd on my berries---the brocolli salad I made mostly with stevia--a small amount of sugar. Today is the first day I have strayed from my avoidance list at all. Tomorrow, back to business--no weight change this morning or the past 3 days for that matter.
Tomorrow is tax prep at 6 pm and I've not done anything---so will do that first thing in the morning and then do yoga, get a facial and hope I'm ready. One of my former students who is an author is doing a book signing at Barns and Noble tomorrow night also--hoping I can sneak down there and buy her book right at 6 and let DD go first with the accountant. The author lives in Utah now so I haven't seen her for a while--went to a couple other of her book events though in the past. Trying to cram too much into one day ==oh well.
Gotta' go to bed. Hope you get your car JoAnne. Seems they should provide you with a car since they didn't have it ready when they said. Holly, I hope you get to do the yoga--I think you would find it really good for blood pressure and stress.
Sue, I hope all worked out okay with the food tonight--know you were concerned.

Hi!
Quick post have to go to school soon. We didn't have to serve people last night, either people cancelled or the school cancelled dinner. We prepped for tonight, which is friends and family night. It will be small plates style of everything on the menu and people can take whatever they want. So prep was easy last night because we cleared out the freezer and there were desserts from previous weeks.
I got an A on my dessert practical, whew glad that's over.
BBL!

Way to go on your final, Sue! Glad you didn't have to serve last night. Wish I could come and sample there tonight.
I could not go to sleep last night---finally after lying there miserably awake, I realized there would be no sleep until I took care of the tax prep--so got up and spent two hours getting all lined up---was missing 3 1099's from TIACref---went through all my files thinking I may have stashed them in the wrong spot---then laid out the numbers to call this morning---went to bed and finally slept so DH let me sleep till 8 when DD showed up for coffee (which she used to do regularly so he knew I would not want to sleep thru that). Luckily DH had an email--I forgot that we had signed up for paperless tax forms to print off our account at home---so got those and am ready. Had planned to skip yoga and take a lite nap but yoga teacher texted and she is now sick so yoga canceled anyway. I think DH and I are going to take a short walk--first time in 3 weeks--so we are going to park at the park and then walk to the coffee bean for a cup of coffee (I got cheated this morning as there was only one cup left for me). Glad DH is willing to make it a short walk as I'm not sure anything more would be good for him either.
It's very warm here today---no gradual spring this year--right from cool to super warm---hate that. Am afraid we are in for a blazing summer after last year having been the hottest on record.
