ann1953, I missed the news about your husband. May he be better soon. Maybe your recent loss is stress related. cathygeha, nuts... Friday, October 25: 123.4 - down 0.2 lb. We might have our power shut off again on Saturday. The Kincaid fire was caused by a transformer malfunction, if the reporting I've seen is accurate, even though the power was shut down. Can't win. Fires everywhere in Cali lately. In addition to the high winds and low humidity we have many, many dead trees that burn like kindling.

Friday WI today: Down 1.6 from last week, so down 9.7 for being OP. It's slooooowwwww going but it's going in the correct direction so I'll take it! lani, girrrl, how are you so young looking and already retired? What's your secret?!? cathygeha, when you want to go off program just ask yourself, "Which will feel better - shoving that food into my mouth knowing it'll show up on the scale, OR, staying OP and seeing the scale go down next WI?" The former is temporary satisfaction, but the latter is always a better feeling! ann1953, hope your husband is okay. xo bbbearsmom, maybe it would be helpful to your portion creep if you didn't look at it as 'dieting again' and instead, look at it as 're-evaluating your behaviors and why you've slipped into old habits'? Remember that diagram I used in my Week 4 BRB? Go back to that and see what phase of behavior change you're at know and ask yourself The 5 Whys to get to the bottom of things. That way you can address the root cause of your portion creep. Just a thought...

surfgirl, Thanks for the ideas. Part of it was I had convinced myself I needed an extra snack. Have done without it for a number of days and I'm doing just fine. I also tweaked the portion of some things a little, and that seems to be working too.

Thanks everyone for your thoughts. Mr. Lani has looked into purchasing a generator. I was on the fence about it, but our wonderful utility provider predicts 10 years of planned blackouts until the power grid is really safe. So I guess we will go ahead with that. surfgirl, true confessions: I had the big face lift in 2000, which was an unmitigated success, and a mini jawline tweak some years later (which didn't meet expectations, but oh well). I can't remember the exact timing of the second procedure. It was done under local anesthesia and never again. Put me under! Actually, I don't think I will do any more plastic surgery ever. Saturday, October 26 - 123 - down 0.4 lb.

lani, We got a whole house generator over the last year. It runs on propane. We needed something to run the boiler because we can get outages for days when the power goes out. What decided my husband was we got power back one night at 7:30 p.m. and it was supposed to be below freezing that night. He figured we would have had burst pipes if the electricity hadn't come back on. We have a Generac 12-kilowatt. For our size house (Probably just over 2000 square feet) the 12 or 16-kilowatt size is recommended (according to my husband). Do your research on the generator and on the people doing the work. We had to get a permit (had to find a plot map of the property) for the generator and I think for the propane tanks. The electrical inspector tried to cause trouble on our installation. Luckily the other inspectors didn't listen to him.

bbbearsmom, thanks for the info. Mr. Lani has done quite a bit of research already. I don't think we'll go for the whole house generator. There's a way you can link up just the items you want to have power; we really only need the fridge for sure, TV and internet would be good. I have a feeling there's going to be a run on generators right quick around here.

I have a feeling there's going to be a run on generators right quick around here. If you're up in the NorCal area, my sympathies to you, that's a tough situation right now. I hate this time of year with fires and all. When I was a Peace Corps volunteer, I had a dual electric/gas fridge - it was an over sized bar fridge, not dorm size, bigger, but I lived in a hut in the village the first 1.5 years and I ran it on propane tanks that sat outside the wall with a hose coming through the mud wall. It was a great thing to have, and when I moved into teacher housing the last 6-9 months, I ran it off electric. I wonder if such a thing exists stateside? As for your secret, it's safe with me! I may ask you about that some time...but I'll spare you and ask via direct message!
