Got a few minutes to myself now...
CJ- well this LQS sounds like a really great place to work at and take classes at, I understand how getting there and back is pricey and taking a class is also pricey (so would be renting the use of a long armer) The way I see it, I think you deserve this. You do not sound like the kind of person who has all kinds of expensive habits to maintain or finance. Would your DSIL who sometimes goes to quilt shows with you join you from time to time? Can you combine a trip to this shop with an errand (which sort of justifies why you are driving an hour?). Or well, gee why not! You are retired and do deserve to take a class or two or spend some time doing what you love. So glad you took this class and got so much out of it.
That being said, here is the other side of the story. Coming out of church I chose to chat with the second woman who also takes classes at QA with pastors wife and me. I asked her if she had finished BOM- and she has ( she has finished the top but not yet quilted it). Then she went on to tell me that she is taking 2 more classes up there...and will be finishing her BOM with her own long armer. Oh and she is taking next years BOM just because she wants to (and we have not even seen the pattern just yet!). So, I do understand if CJ does not or cannot go to all those classes. I was a bit disheartened speaking with the other woman at my church about all her quilting. I am very happy that she has the time and finances to do this. But I understand that my expectations and time constraints only permit so much quilting time- and I am very happy with that. (Do not want CJ to feel that I am pressuring her to take more classes than she wants to).
Phyl, thanks for the family/friend relation explanation. Think we all figured that Delona was a super close friend- and she seems to be your primary partner for “bummin”. You are blessed to have so many special people in your life.
Ruth, well I looked up the crochetted alpine cable hat, am sure I did not find your specific pattern but was curious to see what I did find. I saw several pictures all pretty similar. What a magnificent hat pattern!! So glad you figured out how to crochet that pattern. The hat will be striking, truly lovely. Yes, that is always the way...sometimes we buy yarn or fabric and then later on wish we had bought more. Did you get anywhere cleaning out the crawl space and going through tubs of things for the kids?
Did I share with you about DD’s American girl doll? (DD#!). She has bought one for DGD#1 to be given at Christmas, but wanted hers to be a friend for her doll to play with. About 3 months ago, she asked me if I knew where it was. I had a few ideas, but my main idea was that I had already given it to her and it was in a large plastic tub full of other special toys from her childhood. She insisted it was not there and texted me many times to see if I had looked yet. So the hunt began. I took the attic apart and went into most of the tubs there (which are Dd#2 and Ds’s stuff). I found DD#2’s AG doll. I went into 2 closets.....and looked in the one tub that is in the crawl space (which is diffucult to reach). Total time spent so far, 2-3 hours. The LAST place I was going to look was go back in the attic and bring down the 5 tubs up there, taking them all apart to look for this large doll. I was not looking forward to this at all....but has steeled myself to the task. Until I got the text Saturday am that the doll had been found. Where??? Exactly where I thought it was, in her garage, in a clean and dry plastic tub, in excellent condition. Guess I am just thankful she found the darned thing.
Babysitting today. Bible study tonight. Hope I can get to my quilt mid week. Ginny

Ginny, well some of us have a lot of time on our hands ...me....and you don't. Some also have a lot of financial resources to use...not me... so they can spend a great deal of both time and money on their hobbies. I agree that CJ deserves to treat herself but shouldn't feel pressured into it if she doesn't feel up to driving that far or is just not in the quilting mode at the time the classes are offered. Quilts are so beautiful though and if someone has that talent they certainly are blessed. I know that both you are CJ are very talented in that area.
Well I'm not making that alpine cable hat after all. I need to watch a youtube on that particular cable. I didn't realized it was not the cable that I already know how to make and mine didn't look like it was coming out right. Personally I like a plain cable better than that one that they call braided.
I spent the morning untangling yarn. I had one of those mesh fold up laundry hampers full of balls and skeins of yarn that seemed to have decided to tangle itself all together. I also put some really small leftover balls into a bag that I'm going to donate. I know there are people that actually look for small amounts of yarn like that at various thrift stores.
Ok, back to working on organizing and sorting then a crochet break.

Hello Crafters Ruth - I'm glad you figured out that pattern and sorry you didn't get all that yarn now that you found you like it. I've had the same regret with many purchases I passed up over the years. Hope you can get all your yarn sorted out. Ginny - I'm glad the AG doll was found, just wish it had been before you did all that looking!! Hope the babysitting went well today and that you enjoy your bible study. Thanks for the thoughts on me taking a class. I probably won't go back to that store unless I see another class I really want to take. There are closer stores where I can rent a long arm machine and I need to think about that. Or seriously think about buying the small frame I saw that I can use with my heavy duty sewing machine. I would love to get all my tops quilted, but if I don't then I just need to accept that I made a bunch of quilt tops I enjoyed and leave it at that I hope I can finish the small hand quilting piece from the class this week since I'll need to wash out the blue marker I used to mark it. I've never used one of those before but supposedly the marking will come right off with soaking in cold water. I guess I'll see if it does. It's a pretty sunny and mild day here after all the rain yesterday. I had hoped to go out and run errands but I slept late and didn't have my things all ready to go out, so I'll wait until another day this week. I still mail all my bills (paying with a check) and I know I need to move into the future and pay online or over the phone or something, hopefully I'll get to that point eventually. I think if I moved that would motivate me to do it so that I didn't have to worry about getting bills at a new address. Take care everyone!

Good Afternoon,
CJ I do understand ow you feel about classes. I would love to take some classes here. look at the price of the class fee, then add the money for your supplies it gest pretty spending.
working at mcd's my ss is not alot.would love to take a class in Prairie Du Chen That is 60 miles from here. then if the class get over like 4 pm well driving home would be hard. night driving is not for me anymore.car light bug me. I would stay over night that would be more expense.
yes I would love to have a SMALL home size long arm machine.YOU still have to have a place to put it. they are costly. mmm wonder what the really big long arms machines cost? we would have to add onto the house to have one of those.
our guild was going to have a workshop next weekend, the instructor hurt her her back so it got canceled. that class you would spend 79.00 before even taking the class and buying stuff there.
cj are you doing the Balitamore blocks? I have seen them at quilt shows. they are beautiful and time consuming. one show the lady won a ribbon.she has 3 or 4 more to do for each of her kids or grandkids. forget how long the card said it took her.
well girls today I finally finished up cleaning the other room in the basement so both rooms the tables have machines on them and just some sewing notions.mmm wonder how long they will stay clean..phyl

CJ I think that if you are happy looking at the beautiful quilt tops you've made just as they are, you shouldn't worry about getting them quilted. You could pick out a few very special ones that you want to quilt and keep the others as they are right now. I think you have a good plan for classes. If you have some that are just as appealing nearer to you then that seems like it would be the best way to go
Phyl, I can't drive at night anymore either. I thought that after cataract surgery that I would be able to but that's not the case and it looks like it didn't help with your night driving either. I know a lot of older people do drive at night but for me it's not an option. I wouldn't want to put my own or anyone else's life in danger.
Well I got a few more things sorted out and ready to give away or throw away. It's just a drop in the bucket though and I have a long way to go. I was just thinking this morning about all the tools dh has and all the garden tools we have. Just those alone would take up a whole moving van. I hope dh gets busy and starts sorting. He's been working on his fishing poles trying to sort out which of those are still good or can be restored to being useful and functional
Well back to work
Ginny, I hope you had a good day babysitting and a good Bible study this evening.

Ruth, totally. Understand about Dh and not downsizing. My dh seems to be accumulating, yet he complains that its my junk all over the place. And he has 2 sheds....with equipment that he does not use. Moving might also be in our future so I feel the same fear as you do. Keep your focus, do not overwhelm with all you must god through. Keep on at it, little by little and the pile that looked so overwhelming will go down.
Phyl, I feel the same way about my LQS, a bit too far and all the projects are very pricey. I do not want to know what I spent on my BOM- if. You added up all the little add ones. Would be nice if you could take a class at Prairie Du Chen- but it does sound like a very long day. Maybe you and Nita could take on on very special class. And you are so right, to have a long armer, even a small one, you need a lot of room.
CJ- yes the switch to online banking is a bit harrowing but in the long run, I think its good. I got tired of having to worry about the mail getting there on time. Perhaps you could pick one or two really special quilt tops to have long armed. I also have had great luck with a free motion quilting ruler, which I played with for the first time a month ago. Its around $100 for the initial investment but allows close to long arm quality on your home machine.
KIds were good today....off to bible study in 15 minutes. Hope Sue is doing well and that she has not gotten any more snow Ginny

Good afternoon all- Quiet here. Perhaps my crafting for the day is a discussion with my quilting buddy who wants to drive up to the LQS in her new car. She has asked me to join her for the journey. Very sad to think that she might have to make this trip all by herself, so of course I will consider going with her. Ha ha ha
BBL to see who checks in and say hello Ginny

Definitely Ginny, you don't want your friend to get lonesome on that long journey.. You have to go with her. Dont' you just hate when our adult kids stubbornly stick to their statements...in this case your dd's insistance that she didn't have the AG doll. YOu spent lots of time searching and knew you didn't have it but you did it for her. My crafting yesterday was pretty much limited to going through some old bags and other containers holding yarn and untangling them as I mentioned yesterday. I had intended to do some actual crocheting later but never got back to it.So far today it's been a lot of discussion and while talking our cable box went out but then it came back on and the tv itself turned off and won't come back on. We've only had it for about 4 years and it was supposed to be a top of the line panasonic which we though would be a good one and last for years and years.

Hello Crafters Ginny - It's really nice of you to give up part of your day to ride with your friend to the quilt shop Ruth - I wish the best with the downsizing. I cringe every time I think about doing that anymore. Phyl - I'm the same as you with those classes ending late in the afternoon and this time of year I don't want to be driving home in the dark. I haven't done a Baltimore Album quilt block. I think it would be fun to take a class for just one block, but I'd never want to do a whole quilt. Years ago I took an applique class and made a small quilt (probably about 20x20 inches) and found that hand applique is not my favorite thing. Those large longarm machine cost well over $10,000 - I think several are over $20,000. The small one I've been looking at is just a frame for about $1200 and you use your own sewing machine. I think you have to buy the handle bars too, so it would probably be around $2000 once I had everything. It's only about 5 feet long, so I know I could find a place for it. I just want to be sure I'll really use it before I spend the money. I could probably quilt all my tops by renting a machine at a shop for about the same price. Sue - Hope you are getting some crafting in. It's raining here this afternoon. I went out this morning to mail my bills and run a bunch of errands. I did find almost everything I was looking for but I lost my list before I got to the grocery store. I looked all around the car and in my purse but couldn't find it. Fortunately I was only buying a few things at the grocery store so I could remember them from the list. When I got home I found the list, which I was glad about. Even though my name wasn't on it, it creeped me out to think someone would see my list and know all the places I had stopped at (which was 7 different places). I'm tired from the errands this morning, so I'm doing nothing the rest of the day Take care everyone!

The power went off last night around 7:00. The wind was gusting at 30-60 mph. I don't know if I want to get a generator, but it's time to locate all the flashlights and put them in strategic locations. I looked at the outage map, and it wasn't local but rather most of western Montana. I was sure the power would be off all night, but it was only about an hour.
Yesterday I went to the podiatrist to have the impressions for the orthotics done. His method is totally different NR probably far more accurate. I am impressed. I'm not sure when they'll be ready. I'm #22 on the list. He said that making orthotics is becoming a lost art and doesn't think much of those that are sent off to.lab.
Tomorrow is quilting, a welcome change from the other days! Last week we were talking about the size of the group and people who would like to join. It wasn't intended to be a closed group, but we meet in members' homes, and there just isn't room for any more. It's time to start some new groups. There are at least three women in my subdivision, probably more if I look. The possibilities increase if knitting and others crafts are included.
In my house it's hb who thinks he know where things are and can get argumentative about it. It's particularly challenging when he gets on a roll about something from his past that never made it to my house at all,

Good morning all. It's an overcast and gloomy day here but that can change fast. Sue we used to have a lot of power outages here so started putting a flashlight in every room where it was easily acessible. We still have them all over even though we now rarely have a power outage.
Turned out yesterday it was the sattelite tv box that was the problem not the tv. The tv went into protective mode because of the box. We turned the box off and waited an hour and tried the tv again (after looking the problem up online) and that did work...tv works fine on the antenna but, of course all we get are local channels here in the living room. The other two boxes are functioning fine so we can watch sat tv in the other rooms where we have tv's. I have to clean up some and then call for the people to come over to change the box. they have no local office where you can just take the non functioning box and pick up a new one. I'm watching that create channel right now but there haven't been any sewing or crafting of any other kind show...just gardening and building so far.
I did get one hat made yesterday. I had three in progress and came across two others that I hadn't finished so will work on those today after I do a little work. I've been having to curtail my work due to the IC flaring up and making my bladder give me fits if I try to stand or walk too much.Normally I love to just sit and crochet but now I do need to get some things done but, well if I don't then the world is not going to come to a calamatous end. WE'll make do.

Good afternoon, Ruth, so very sorry that your IC is in a flare up. Think I might understand a bit of that frustration when my IBS goes out of control. Hope you are feeling better soon and can get this under control more quickly than the last time....its been two years since the last flare up if I am not mistaken. You will be in my prayers for a fast recovery to normal. Glad that the television issue was resolved. That can be so insanely frustrating and waiting for a technician can take forever. Several weeks ago we had a TV issue, the tech was 3 hours late- but at least polite and effective at fixing the problem. Back to you....can you crochet comfortably with your flare up? Can you do much of anything with your IC- think you mentioned that sitting is not so bad, but perhaps not the right position for hand work.
SUe, hope that your orthotics do not take too long to make! Personally i have not noticed any huge difference between the expensive Dr Scholl ones and those made in the lab. Hopefully that these custom ones do just the trick and get you back to normal soon. Are others in your quilting group amenable to splitting and forming smaller groups? Guess its a challenge to figure out who will get along with who and not step on toes..... And yes I get into it with Dh regarding where and how stuff is stored. His answer to that is not to put anything away because you will use it one day. Ha ha ha
CJ- so when my buddy and I head out to the LQS we can stop by and visit you. SHe has family in Virginia....so its sort of on the way, right? Ha ha ha REgarding the long arm or even buying the frame, well you will do what is best for you. Because you do not have to worry about colliding with someone elses hobbies, you can evaluate if you really would like a machine like that and get enough use out of it to make it worth your while. At the quilt shop I will be visiting there is one smaller long arm type machine that is not too crazy expensive....I will check it out and see how much that is. The instructor that I took a free motion class has one of them at home. I want to say its a sapphire - could be wrong though. Don’t blame you for being tired of the errands. SOmetimes just thinking about errands makes me tired.
Made a pretty luminary for Dd #2 last night with the modpodge and fall colored tissue paper, on a glass globe she was going to throw out. So I crafted. If I can get a picture of it here as my avatar, I will. Got my hair done this am. My house sounds like a war zone, they are doing the roof. So far, so good. They are about half way done and might be able to get it almost done today. As I said we have a simple roof. We live in a raised ranch....nothing special.
Hey Phyl- how are you doing?
Have a great day all Ginny

Hello Crafters Phyl - Hope you are getting some crafting in. Sue - I'm glad your power wasn't off too long. I've often thought about getting a partial house generator, or having one if I moved to another house, it's just nice to know you could keep the heat/air running and keep the fridge going so you don't lose food. Hope you enjoyed the quilting group today. Ruth - I'm sorry to hear you aren't feeling well, I hope that clears up soon. I'm glad you figured out your TV problem and that you have others to watch as backup. I used to love that show "Knit and Crochet Now" (I think that's what it was called. I watched it every time it came on until my public TV station pulled Create off the regular cable channels and put it on a special service I don't get. Ginny - I hope they finish the roof today, I was stressed out listening to all that banging when they were at my house last year I bet your head feels good after getting your hair done too. The luminary sounds pretty, I hope you can show it as your avatar. I think it's likely I won't ever get a quilting frame, I just don't think I'd use it enough or be able to take care of the maintenance for it to be worth it for me. I'm probably best served by just renting machines at the stores or paying someone to quilt them for me. I haven't done much today, just some laundry. I did look at a pattern for a table topper that I bought last weekend. It's octagon shaped and pretty easy to make. They had it displayed in Christmas fabrics and it was pretty. I hope to get my hand quilted piece done this week too. It's a pretty sunny fall day here, the leaves are starting to turn colors (those that still can with the dry summer we had), so I'm enjoying it. Take care everyone!
