Hey Phyl!!! Now it’s time for a new washer for you. Some of the new ones look like space aliens....so futuristic. Fortunately you can still buy basic machines..... Hey did anyone hear AC Moore is going out of business? Stinks. We have an AC and a MIchaels right next to each other. AC is by far the better store. G

Hello Crafters - Hope you've all had a good day Ginny - Hope you are feeling better soon and you don't get too much snow. How nice to get a loaner machine while yours is being repaired - I doubt any stores around me would do something like that I almost went out on Black Friday. There were a few good deals at Office Depot that I wanted to take advantage of, but I was tired and didn't feel like dealing with the traffic and the people. They had Norton Security for about $10 and it's normally over $50, so I'm bummed to miss that but I'll just keep watching in December for other deals. I want to buy a new desktop computer (I just need the tower) since my current one runs on Windows 7 and Microsoft will not do anymore updates to that program staring in January. I do have a laptop now, but I prefer working on the desktop with the larger monitor and keyboard. I did go out today and ran a few errands and picked up some household items that were on sale at a few stores. I had coupons for paper towels and got a good deal at CVS. CVS also had All detergent on sale (buy 1 get 1 free), but the regular price was $7.98. The grocery store where I was also going had All on sale for $2.99, so I bought two there instead. It's just amazing how different prices are in all the stores. I hadn't heard about A.C. Moore closing, that's too bad. I like them better than Michael's. They always had a good selection of silk flowers which I buy several times a year for the cemetery. I bought Christmas ones at JoAnn Fabrics this year, but they selection was very limited. I watched a few tutorials on YouTube today showing how to make a zippered bag out of a store purchased placemat. I watched another that used a placement but didn't put the zipper in, just had the top open. They are really quick to make with the already quilted placement. Take care everyone!

Ginny, saw the other day that AC Moore is closing all their stores and are not taking online orders. People have said that even the first day that the news was out, there was little stock left in the stores.Well it sounds like you had a great time today with the other daughter coming over also and bringing the little ones. I know it was fun making that gingerbread house. Did they take it home with them? Sorry about your sewing machine but how nice that the store owner gave you one to use while yours is being repaired. I loved when my old one was broken and I was attending the series of quilt classes and the owner of the shop had me use one of theirs which was a super nice machine.
Phyl, last time I was out on a Black Friday was 20 years ago when I went later in the day with my dd. Last time I had Perkins pie was about maybe 6 years ago when the neighbor brought us over a couple slices. His wife worked at Perkins at the time. I do like banana cream but my favorite pie in restaurants is the lemon that they have a VI. Not the clear lemon meringue but the creamy lemon. Haven't been there in years either.I had to buy a new washing machine a couple years ago. My old one leaked and it was about 25 or more years old. It's hard to find a good one. I didn't want a front loader and I don't like that you can't open the lid on the top loaders anymore. Mine is a basic top loader but I do wish I could look in while it's washing and rinsing so that I could see how good it works. Clothes come out clean and rinsed though so I guess it's doing ok.Mine has an agitator which I like. I think it's an Amana but who know who really makes them.Probably whirlpool
Well I have to say that the star stitch is tricky on the beginning of the 3rd row. I've watched a couple more videos and it seems like everyone that made a video does that part a little differently but it's not real difficult to do it once you get some practice but I do think it takes practice and you probably don't want a pattern that you have to take time to practice for. If you keep all your stitches loose it's not hard although that Mikey I mentioned on Crochet Crowd made it look difficult because he made his stitches with the big yarn too tight and had to struggle to get his hook thru a couple times. All the patterns that I like seem to be variations of the one you made for the youngest of your grandchildren. You are sure right on the two points you made about that one. It's not a mindless pattern... I messed up a few times and haven't worked on it in ages due to making other things so it's not even close to being done, and also, you'd be hard pressed to find a more beautiful blanket than that one. the only thing I can suggest is to make that same one but maybe with and ombre yarn or maybe one of the cake yarns maybe. Doing that it would look like a whole different blanket but still have the beautiful stitch pattern. You could also make one with the Bernat blanket yarn. They're nice and soft and work up fast.
Sue, my dh was going to go out and make a path in case of UPS or FEdEX delivery but didn't and now they won't come till at least Monday so we have time. I don't know how much snow we got but from inside it looks like a lot. Stay warm.

CJ, you are braver than me. I didn't want to go anywhere this whole weekend because too many people are out regardless of it no longer being Black Friday. My dh likes desktops better too. You can connect up your laptop to a monitor. My dh uses a 40 inch tv as his monitor for his desktop.
I love All detergent. They had some marked way down about a year ago at my Kroger store (which doesn't go under the name Kroger) and I bought a whole bunch of them. I think I bought all they had. It's really great at getting out stains even when I forget to put the stain stick on the item.

Good morning,
CJ- I would think that Cyber Monday you might be able to get a good deal like the one you wanted on Norton security. I hear ya about CVS- their sales seem good, until you look at the fine print and realize that most good grocery stores have much better deals. But sometimes the convenience of CVS outweighs all, especially if the grocery stores are mobbed. Are you supposed to get much or any of this winter storm? I agree, AC seems to do all crafts (with the exception of fabrics which they do not carry) best. Seems so odd that they would be closing, when Michaels seems mis managed and poorly organized. Are you planning on making a bag from a placemat? Sounds like an easy and fun project- and a great gift!!
Ruth, think I have 2 bottles of All downstairs, I also tend to buy my detergent when its on sale too. Bless you !!!! What an awesome idea to use a different yarn,(like an ombré) for the baby blanket. Think I will save myself the agony of searching for a new pattern and just find a pretty yarn. Think Dd wants to find out what gender the baby is, and if not, then I can just find some pretty yarn.and go with that. Glad you and Dh are staying home and safe. No deliveries today so waiting till tomorrow to make a path is fine.
Well, got to church this am, now its freezing rain. Gonna be a tough day weather wise. I am concerned about Ds getting home tonight- hope he either stays with friends near work or one of this sisters, both of whom live closer to where he works. Gotta figure out how to use this loaner machine. Like I said, the shop owner (who I have worked with for years) knows i am in the middle of a project and that its a Christmas project (having just bought the thread from her a week ago) and she has my machine. This looks like a very nice machine...I do hope that mine is repairable but if its a pricey fix, well then perhaps Dh will have an easy time buying me something for Christmas. (Spending a LOT more money than normal!!).
Enough babbling from me for now. Gonna take it slow today and see what the weather brings. Hope we keep our electricity. GInny

Ginny, I think a new sewing machine would be a great gift for your dh to get you for Christmas this year. Would he ask you first before choosing which one...because actually, if he doesn't ask you which one you eant he might end up getting something you don't like...either to many or too few features for one thing.
I sure hope your electricity doesn't go out. When we first moved here the electricity was always going out and when I was working the emergency power would come on of course at the hospital but it was only for a few limited items so we would have to run and get all the things they considered non essential connected and for report when changing shifts we would have to use a flashlight. At home we always kept a flashlight in each room in a certain place so one could always be easily found. We still do that but haven't had a power outage now in years.Still it helps when we need a flashlight for something because we know exactly where to find one (unlike many other things that we search and search for then find them in Ginny's daughter's garage...couldn't resist that one)
I got a few earwarmers made yesterday and some sewed and ends woven in and will make more today. I'm going to have to donate some of them somewhere because there are a lot more than I have grandaughters although some of the dgd's will probably want more than one. Gotta make some "guy" earwarmers too but I dislike using dark colors. It's too hard to see the stitches.

Well Ruth, there is a chance that Jimmy Hoffa is in my daughters garage- and Lord knows what else!! Do not mind at all that jab- I love my daughter so much and she is so very busy....but sometimes a bit organizationally challenged. Guess she inherited that from me! I can understand why working with dark colors is a problem. I wonder if a dark tweedy looking yarn would provide enough color variations so that it did not look feminine but also made it easier to find the holes to hook into.
A quiet day- I straightened out the bird feeders for our little feathered friends who will really need the food during the storm. (The bear knocked one feeder down and it needed repair). And got to use this nice pricey machine. Its nice enough. I think I find my singer runs a little more evenly, but then that could be because I have the extension table for free motion and do not have the extension table for this machine. It does have some nice features though. Honestly, if I was to spend this kind of money on a new machine I might spend a little bit more to gain a bit more throat space and possibly more even operation. But I am SO very thankful that the shop owner let me borrow this. Unfortunately I do not think I have the regular foot - just the open toe one- so I need to wait for my machine to come home to put the binding on one small section. Gee, i must sound so ungrateful......and I am so very grateful that I have this machine to use. Just think I would like to try out others before I was to make any final decision.
Hope everyone else is having a good day and staying warm and safe Oh gee- tomorrow is Monday! Schools are closed...we are in for about 8 inches of snow tomorrow. G

Ginny, that is a lot of snow!! I don't know how much we have but I know it's blown into huge drifts now. It's good to hear they closed the schools.
It's too bad the machine doesn't have the regular foot so you could get the binding done. I hope it doesn't take too long to get yours fixed and that it's back to sewing nice and even with no problems. And no you don't sound ungreateful at all.
I didn't accomplish much today. I watched some videos so that I could do the Celtic Weave stitch. I don't know why because I really don't even like it but thought I'd try. After wasting at least two hours and trying numerous times I gave up. And the one video was so tedious.. the woman was slow as molasses and kept explaining how to do a sc and a dcfps over and over. I was ready to scream. The point of the video was supposed to be to learn Celtic Weave not how to do basic stitches. Then I tried another video on another stitch and ended up doing my own thing and didn't like that either so there was a lot of ripping today and I nver did get any item completed.
