Sue - So glad to hear all is well with you and DH. See? We DO miss you when you aren't here. But I fully understand how time gets away from you. There are times when I am busy and think, "I'll post tomorrow morning" and in the morning, "I'll post tonight" and suddenly 3 or 4 days are gone. New puppies will be fun and it is good that they get loved on before going to their forever homes, so you and DH are doing a good thing.
Judy - Don't worry at all about the guys getting to the Cape. They will do just fine and it is enough that y'all are willing to host them. Count me in the group that is all about gifts that I can eat or experience. I do not need more stuff in this house! I won a wire basket like the milkman used to carry bottles of milk. It's cute, but I have absolutely no use for it, so will see which DD wants it.
Good news! DD1's bugs were aphids and harmless, but messy. A few years ago, they had to have the little wood frame house they owned then tented and fumigated at a cost of $10,000 because of an infestation of powder post beetles after receiving a gift of antique furniture from one of DSIL's relatives. By the time they discovered it, the beetles were already eating the floor joists. DD was in a panic because the house they now own is 3 times bigger and she was afraid they'd have to have the same pest treatment at lord knows what cost.
Here's her fb post: "When you already think you’re close to your wits’ end and life laughs and gives you a bug infested Christmas tree dripping sap all over your hardwood floors and the tree skirt from your husband’s childhood that his late grandmother hand-stitched for him, sure you take a minute to cry—which I did—and then you choose an attitude of gratitude. You undecorate that 9-ft beauty and swap it out for the slightly wonky artificial tree you bought for $10 at a garage sale and have been using as an outside Christmas decoration for the past eight years. You get your husband to spray the live tree and set it in the front yard so the neighbors can enjoy it too. And you console your very disappointed 12-year-old daughter by reminding her how very blessed we are that the insects were not destructive and that we still have a warm home, a Christmas tree in the living room, and presents to put under it. #attitudeofgratitude #blessedChristmas" She makes me so proud!
It was a good day. I talked with all my DD's on the phone, got a lot of the house tidied, cooked a rice and gravy dinner, made my Advent confession and got a good workout at yoga. Now, I'm going to read a bit before heading to bed.

Good morning all. Another typical winter day or should I say fall? Not too sure these days. Good news is that I had another great sleeping night. We had a blast at our neighbors just talking laughing and listening to music. I did indulge more than planned, so will be hitting reset button for today. Pam thank you so much for sharing the FB post. I am happy that the bug situation turned out to be easier than expected. Nice you got the house tidied had a good dinner made your confession and got a good yoga workout. You are blessed Waving to Sue and Judy and will CBL.

Good Morning, WW Friends ~
TGIF!! Still feels like Saturday to me since I'm off today. I really do LOVE working 4-day weeks! Yesterday I worked out downstairs, then boxed up DH's gifts to be ready to wrap. Finding the right size box and putting them in seems to take the longest. We have a big bin of collapsed boxes so I have quite an assortment. I am only waiting for one more gift to arrive today via UPS and it will come in its own box. We enjoyed our turkey dinner very much (turkey breast, mashed potatoes & gravy, corn + limas then Crustless Pumpkin Pie.
This morning I need to make a Costco trip and then come home and exercise and then I can start wrapping. We had cereal breakfast together and DH is getting ready to leave. I should leave not far behind him as I want to get my shopping done early!!
Pam ~ So glad your DD's tree dilemma was solved - if not perfectly, at least to her satisfaction. It is too bad about her tree - hopefully the store intends to make it right with her?? Thanks for being so understanding about that procrastinating in posting. I really DO think about you all, and sometimes even sit down for a moment and read your posts - then think "I'll have more time later to write" and, well, you know how it goes .....
Ann ~ So great to hear that you are sleeping well. I am also and it is truly a blessing! When I've had a good night's sleep I feel like I can do anything <LOL> I had a number of years of sleep disorder and now that I've retrained my mind/body to go to sleep and stay asleep it is truly a blessing (and one that I will never take for granted)!! Last night I was especially tired so we went to bed at 9 and I still slept until almost 7. Usually it is 10 p.m. to 7 a.m. which seems to suit my body well.
Judy ~ I am so happy that you are getting to host and visit with your DN and friend. I remember in the past how much you enjoy having them with you. Our family started a long time ago making a conscious decision to focus on being with each other as more important than tangible gifts! I love reading about your busy schedule.
My DBIL had his pacemaker inserted yesterday but we don't know much more about it. DH is definitely frustrated with his older brother and his inability to take care of himself. DSIL mentioned DBIL's stubbornness and related it to their mother, who was the same way. While it is laughable when viewed that way, it still makes us all feel more than a little helpless in figuring out how to help him??
I did SO enjoy the conversation about gifts, and gifting things we can "use up". I also believe that we all have more than enough "stuff" (I know I do) and I have been known to re-gift some things that I simply cannot use and yet are thoughtful gifts. I usually know someone else who would LOVE it. I know re-gifting is a controversial point, but I am very careful to make sure it ends up in a completely different group - and to me it sure beats sticking it on a shelf somewhere until I get the chance to donate it or throw it away. This year I bought a half dozen 8 oz Body Cream from Bath & Body Works when they were on sale. Those are for my three co-workers in the kitchen area; and our three office staff in the Head Start office. I also got Starbuck's gift cards for my 4 teachers and 4 assistant teachers. So everyone can "use up" my gifts.
BBL. Make a great day!!

Sue yes a good sleep is so healthy for well being. I too never take that for granted! There used to be times when I just couldn't shut my mind off. I've learned over the years to 'let it go'....that mindset helps me tremendously. Your meal sounded delish. Tonight we are having the rest of the smoked chicken with mashed potato and corn. I will go 'freezer diving' to see if there is anything in there I can take out for tomorrow. Wish me luck! Keeping DBIL in my prayers, Sue. That situation is not easy to deal with I'm sure. The gifts you chose are ones that I would have gotten. I often pick up things and put them in a box in my closet. When bdays and Christmas come along I go through what I have. You can also add me to the list of re-gifting....like you, if I know that someone will love it, it will go to them. Enjoy your shopping I have already planned and tracked my day. Now to just stick to it! Enjoy

Good Morning!
I was up and out early for a daily Mass and some quality time with the Lord. It was cloudy but clear when I went into church and very foggy and cool when I came out. Temps should reach the low 60's today.
Not much on the agenda for this morning. In the afternoon I will go to town to pick up DH's prescription and Abby when she gets off the bus. The two older DGKs have headed to NOLA, along with half the parish, to watch their school football team compete in the state playoffs at the Super Dome. They declared a school holiday and sold low cost tickets, so they were allowed to hitch a ride with friends and go. But that meant Abby needs someone to be there when she gets off the bus, so she called last evening and asked me to "child-sit" her, since she is now 6 and doesn't feel "babysit" applies, lol. DH and I decided we will have her for a surprise sleepover. DH just subscribed to Disney Plus and Abby will be able to watch whatever Disney movie she wants, with popcorn and hot cocoa. It should be a fun evening.
Ann - Your evening with friends sounds like one I would enjoy. Glad you are resting well at night.
Sue - I can completely understand your frustration with DBIL. Taking care of one's health seems like a no-brainer, but for some reason many people stick their heads in the sand and pretend they can do whatever they want without consequences, my DH included. I hope this hospital stay is a wake-up call for DBIL. I admire your dedication to exercise, something I constantly struggle with.
I am up 1.5 lbs. at official WI and breathed a sigh of relief, because the scale has dropped about 2.5 from a couple days ago. The combination of holiday parties and lack of exercise and motivation is taking a toll. I have made myself keep tracking it all, so I guess it could have been worse. Tomorrow night is our choir party where I will again be faced with LOTS of temptation. I am hoping to get lots of steps in before then helping out at our Christmas event.

P.S. I see nothing wrong with re-gifting someone with something you believe they will enjoy. I appreciate the thought from the person who gave me the gift, even if it's something I just won't use. Why let it go to waste if someone else can be blessed with it?

LOL to 'child sit' Pam. That put a on my face. Enjoy your day. Seems like we are all on the same page with re-gifting. I love the way you put it...that someone else will be blessed with it! My attitude this time of the year as far a my relationship with the scale is concerned is that I try to balance things out. I worked hard to get to the lower number of my 'happy zone' so that I can play a bit. Right now it's all good...that doesn't mean that it's not going to change. There are so many memories attached to the foods that we reach for during the holidays. Then there are those foods that we only get to eat once a year. I say go for it all...in moderation of course Need to get a move on. Take care all.........Hi Judy

TGIF and it's a very short day today for us, and our boss hosts a holiday party for all 40 of us at his home which starts at 3 PM. It'll be fun. I'll be bringing him a box of Godiva Chocolates prettily wrapped by Godiva. :-) His family will enjoy it.
My 3rd of the week holiday dinner was last night at the Italian restaurant and we had a great time catching up. There was a lot to say on everyone's part - one friend is very caught up in college admissions for her junior in h.s. who is a soccer star in RI. Another friend's daughter was just married and they bought a 200 year old house (talk about a lot of work and the subject of mice came up!) and the our other friend's son is living in HI and going through a sad split from his wife What would we ever do without our women friends? They mean so much. I chose a salmon with pesto on top which was delish. I brought the side of pasta home - again! The scale hasn't move a lot but is inching down a little bit.
Exciting news to report: my DDIL successfully defended her thesis and is now a Doctor! Hooray for her especially with a 7 month old baby! We are all so proud of her!
Pam, your daughter has such a great perspective and head on her shoulders. You should be proud! I am glad the little buggie critters were not bad one. The story of fumigation is nightmarish - what a cost to remove them! Yikes. Will you see your MI daughter over the holidays?
Sue, have fun with your wrapping and shopping today.
Ann, how was your gathering last night?
I'm bushed and glad my social calendar is usually fairly quiet. Next week is a hair appointment, one holiday dinner out at the Boynton Restaurant on Monday night (for Ann's info :-)) and the doctor's follow up. Then, we will be packing to fly out on 12/21.

LOL Judy..my kinda gift...perfecto chocolate and all wrapped Enjoy. Oh I'm sure you fully enjoyed the party last night. I agree...we'd be lost without our friends. That is great the scale is holding its own. Brava for taking the pasta home with you. I would not have been so strong Love the Boynton Enjoy. Our gathering was fun. We listened to music talked laughed and I snacked through it all LOL. My scale only showed a .2 gain, so I'm sure it will show up tomorrow....or if not, I'll consider it an early Christmas present Save travels on the 21st should I forget to mention it.

Pam, happy child sitting! What a precocious little girl Abby is and how cute is that? :-) They do say such funny things!
Ann, your party and friends sound like fun and snacking your way through the night is great, too. You know just how to manage it all!

Yes it was fun, Judy. Always nice to find 'like minded people' at this stage of the game LOL.
Back from a short hood walk. No sun and dampness in the air chilled me to the bone. Happy to be home where it's warm and dry.

Well, I have all my wrapping done (except for the one that is still on the UPS truck on its way here) and the area under the tree looks beautiful! I packed away the “fake” boxes we use when we first put up the tree, and replaced them with real gifts.
Pam ~ I had to LOL (truly!) at Abby asking you to child-sit her. I have never heard that and thought she was so exceedingly clever!! I wish I was dedicated to exercise, but that is not the case. I used to go to the gym 3 days a week for a Silver Sneakers class but when I changed positions at school the timing didn’t work for me any longer. Now it is hit or miss for me. I wish I did better {{sigh}} …… Thanks also for the perspective on re-gifting (or blessing someone else).
Ann ~ I also look to “balance things out” this time of year. I ate lunch at home today and enjoyed some quinoa, black beans and guacamole. We are headed out for a great steak dinner tonight – where we actually cook our steak on a volcanic rock that is brought to our table. Very interesting, but fun!
Judy ~ So good to hear about your dinners and meeting with girlfriends. Yay for your DDIL!! That is great news indeed!!
I just got a phone call to wish us Happy Anniversary from an old friend (former neighbor) who is so near and dear to my heart. He is the same age as my son would have been had he lived – something my DH pointed out to me a number of years ago. We decided God is good (all the time) and gave me one to enjoy in my sunset years.
We decided to go to Black Rock Steakhouse where they bring a volcanic rock to our table heated to some astronomical degree and we cook our steak on it at the table. Unique and different and the food is good – plus we have a handful of gift cards plus one for a free appetizer. Win-win!!
BBL. Make a great day!
