Ginny, it is disappointing when we think we're going to have a quiet day to ourselves and plans get changed for us but as someone said on another thread, the grandchildren don't stay little long so we have to enjoy them while we can
Meg, I too hope that something will jump out at you as a perfect present for Janet. I have a hard time figuring out what to get anyone at all. Someone with special needs would be even harder.
Ginny don't be sorry about thinking I said I started the hat. I keep saying things and I don't get them done so it would be easy to be confused by what I say
I have heard of that quilt method but no nothing about it other than the name. And yes, I'm going to do the most important cards first and get those mailed so that if I don't get them all done I'll just write a note after Christmas and say happy new year instead.
I don't know why I said good morning when I posted earlier...it sure wasn't morning.
Ok, I'm going to stop procrastinating and get busy. I took time out to clean the kitchen so at least I did something productive and didn't just sit and watch tv or play online games.

Hello everyone, I am weary but I do have most of my shopping done. I did get Janet a couple of movies. The selection was not very good. I should have ordered on line and I still may do that. I also got her 2 sweaters and 2 night gowns. I ordered her 2 pr. pants and they should arrive tomorrow. I got Devin a few odds and ends. I am going to give him money because he is going to Disney World in Feb with DS. They will stay with DGD#1 who lives near Tampa. She lives about 1 hour from Disney World.
cj, I am glad you have caught up with your maintenance when you have a house there is always something.
Ruth, I hope I can stay home tomorrow. I got my cards off on Monday. But I forgot 2 people so I will have to get those off. They are local people. Every year I send cards to people who have died during the year. Oddly they are mostly women who have passed and it is the DHs who write with the sad news, They say women live longer than men but I don't know about that.
Ginny, I know we all love our DG kids but sometimes it is nice to have a break. I hope you get a good nights sleep and have the energy to take care of them tomorrow. I hope I can stay out of the stores next week. I still need to do my big grocery shopping when DS has the time to go with me. No crafting today either so far perhaps when I get off the computer.
Phyl, I hope you have been able to have a quiet day today.
Have a good evening.

Phyl, I hope your cable is ok because I know you've been working on it a long time. And that's why I hate to knit because I'm not good at taking it out only back to the mistake and getting the stiches back onto the needles.
Meg money sounds like a good option for Devin when he's going to Disney World. I'm sure there will be a lot there that he wants to buy.
CJ, I'm glad to hear that you got all your repairs and maintenance done. It has to be a relief to have that all out of the way.
Well I did all my cards but three and those are the ones that I have to write letters for in two and put in a letter that I already have written in the other. so that will be done tonight.
I also hope to have the fringe on one scarf tonight too and the other tomorrow and then I can finally start the hats which shouldn't take long. When I was making hats for Caps for Kids it usually took me about an hour and a half to do a hat. These are longer for the slouchy look but that extraonly taks a couple more minutes. Now just to get the yarn together that I want to use for them. I have one sitting here for the guys hats but I'll do the girls hats first.I may put some design in a couple, like a row of x stitches or something just to make them different or maybe a winder and a narrower strip. That always looks nice

It looks like we are in for some heavy rain and the wind is coming up so this will be a good day to stay home. I need to give this old body a rest. I did finish a b/blanket last evening. Now I have another one ready for a border which wont take too long.
Ruth, I wish I could crochet as fast as you. I need to get one of the ladies at Knit Wits to teach me some more crochet stitches. Of course there is always UTube. I have paid for classes and learned nothing. I learn more from friends. I have been getting behind with my household chores so I had better get busy.
I will check back later. Have a freat day and stay warm and dry.

After the day of a high of 14 yesterday it really did get to 50 today so we went out and took care of everything so don't have to go out again for the rest of the year...except maybe on Christmas. They're saying now that we're going to get a true blizzard starting tonight so it will be nice watching the snow fall from inside. I also got the things I ordered for the youngest dgd that lives here in town in the mail today so I'm all set now. If we do go to dd's house on Christmas (depends on the weather) we'll just go and take the gifts, watch them open them and come back home before it get's late.
Meg, Mostly when I go to classes I don't learn much either. youtube is a great thing. I am pretty fast at crocheting and new crochet stitches are so easy to learn. People are putting more and more combinations together now and giving them a name. It's amazing the patterns you can make using combos of the three...sc, dc, tc.The only one I couldn't figure out and had to watch a youtube of was the corner to corner. Written on paper it just didn't make sense to me.After watching it done of youtube it was easy and fun and I made a baby blanket with it. They're so pretty. I'll have to make more of those. I want to get a bunch done after Christmas to donate. I think we might be in for a cold Jan and Feb.I saw a nice pattern today for a baby blanket that might be a stitch that I've done but the picture was nice. I need to look it up again but I think it was for a video tutorial not a written pattern. I don't know how they thing you can make something with just a video tutorial alone.Maybe though after you see them doing the first couple rows you just repeat that but there usually is an edging too so I guess you'd have to go back and try to find the same tutorial again to see what they say about edging...and of course you could just do your own edging.

Hello Crafters - hope you are all doing well today. For those that asked about the Quiltsmart method, it's a fusible thin paper that you sew your fabric onto and then press it to fuse it together. Here's a link to the page with a short video: www.quiltsmart.com/khxc/index.php?app=ccp0&ns=prodshow&ref=classic_58inchlonestarI started cutting my fabric today, but after pressing yards of fabric and cutting strips I needed a break. I'll have to finish cutting the smaller pieces tomorrow since the class is on Saturday. We're supposed to have some bad weather that morning, so I'm playing it by ear if I can go to the class. I won't drive in freezing rain! It's so cold here today, in the 20s and windy, with wind chills in the single digits. I'm glad I didn't have to go out anywhere. choney - sorry you didn't get your quiet day, hope it well though meg - glad you got some of your shopping done and some crafting too ruth - glad you are making progress with your cards, it feels so good when they are done phyl - I bet those animals were cute, those are nice agencies for your quilt guild to donate to Take care everyone.

CJ, I hope the weather is ok so that you can get to that class.
I meant to say that I did get all my cards done last night and I mailed them all this morning. Now to finish my craft projects and wrap gifts.
After Christmas I do have a huge list of things I want to make but besides the baby blankets and all I want to make a crocheted "quillo" for my dgs for his bday which is Feb 1st. I think it will be a great thing for him to have when he goes to college if he ends up going to one out of town. The one he wants to go to is $18,000 and I don't even know if that's for just a semester or for a year. It's one he could drive to or he could go with his dad..my ds...when ds goes to work and then ds could pick him up on his way home..depending on dgs' class schedule. But at $18000 that one probably is not going to be the one. Plus I've been making his sisters crochet purses and made one of them two shawls she wanted so far so I want to make him something too. A couple years ago I was going to make him one of those hats with beard. I guess I could still do that. The afgan I'm going to make is one I made for dh only I didn't put the thing on the top that you can fold the afgan into like I'm going to do for dgs.Even if he is just at home the quillo (shouldn't call it a quillo since it's not technically a quilt) it would be nice to have a nice crochet blanket that can fold into a pillow and not have to be spread out on the bed all the time.
Ok, on to fringe making.

Good evening! I feel so out of touch here.....good to see all your posts.
Ruth - our youngest did that- went to a community college for 2 years and saved us a lot of mone. The quillo sounds like a great idea- what college student cannot use a nice crochetted blanket!! (Great for studying in bed which all college students do).
CJ, thanks for the link on quiltsmart. I will check it out tomorrow....hope you enjoy the class! How many times will the class meet?
Meg, glad you found some nice gifts for Janet. I am sure that there are days where you wish you could do more for her- it's obvious to us that you are a very very caring mom and go far above and beyond the call of duty for her. I also think that cash for Devin's trip would be perfect.
Phyl, well I hope you do not have to rip out all that work! Bet it was nice to pet the kitties and puppies and not have to bring one home. Your efforts in raising funds for charities is a wonderful thing....what a way to share the blessing with others
Baby sat today.....in addition to work. Got a few minutes in hooking.... Got a doctors appointment tomorrow...so glad it is Friday tomorrow also. Good night Ginny

Come to think of it, Ginny, my ds attended some classes at a community college there just about five years ago so my dgs could go to that one. My ds finished up online so probably dgs could do that too. The grandchildren have been so sheltered due to being home schooled and not living near other kids that I don't even know how they will deal with the real world but they're going to have to get used to it sometime. The only way they see other kids in when they go to the Christian coop school once a week and to church..about three times a week with all the groups they belong to there. So it would be great for dgs to attend the community college and get to see some things and learn how to deal with them. The college he wants to go to is a Christian college.
Putting on fringe is harder than I thought with using to different color fringe and trying to get it spaced evenly and there are supposed to be 11 fringes on each end so finally I got out my box of about a billion stitch markers and put them on there to indicate where to put the fringes. That worked out great.I'm almost done.. Just have one end of one scarf to do and I already have hte stitch markers there but had to take a few minutes out to eat and then to say goodnight to my crafting friends
I'm going to look at that video tomorrow too, CJ. :It sounds interesting.
I forgot too that I'm going to make my dd some rice bags. She has a lot of back and neck pain so can really use those. They won't take anytime though

Well I am pooped. I was going to treat myself to a nice quiet day at home today but as I have been out every day I had a lot of catching up at home. Started cleaning my bathroom I will finish it tomorrow, I did laundry and cooked dinner, did dishes and put them away. Tomorrow DS and I will go and do our big grocery shopping.
We had heavy rain today which we need. I picked Devin up after school this afternoon and I can't believe how some people send their kids to school in the winter. I saw kids with no jackets and they were wearing short sleeve T shirts walking home in a down pour. Devin got soaked making it from his classroom to the car. When he got home I put all his clothes in the laundry.
I may listen to my audio book and work on one of the b/blankets. Last evening I crocheted and listen to my book and it was so relaxing because I hadn't done that for awhile.
Ruth, you are lucky that you and your DH don't have to go out in the snow if you don't want to. Good idea to have enough supplies on hand so that you can stay home and keep warm. I learned to drive way back in 1959 -60 in Sioux City Iowa. What a time I had that first winter. I was always sliding off the road and having to have someone pull me out.
Ginny, I hope you enjoyed the time spent with your DGKids today and that you didn't get too tired.
Phyl. someone suggested to me one time if you are doing a pattern with so many rows that you repeat. Run a strand of yarn through the first row then if you make a mistake and have to rip back you only have to rip back to the row with the yarn threaded through it. It would save having to rip the whole thing. Good luck.
cj, Home is a good place to be if the roads have ice. That scares me more than the snow. Hope you are warm and cozy.
Now I am going to listen to my audio book and do a little crocheting. I may fall asleep over it. I am sore from being on my feet so much today.

Good morning! Meg you sound tired.....hope you were able to listen to that book on CD and get some crochetting time in. I totally hear you, I see how some kids dress going to school. It's appalling. (But I bet they spend PLENTY on clothes...and cell phones). Now that you got all that housework done, perhaps today can be a more quiet day for you. I hope so!! Were you able to get the border on any of the baby afghans?
Ruth, glad you were able to figure out a good way to space the fringe. (Which can drive you nuts, as you have found out!). Which Christain college does DGS want to attend? DD (our youngest) looked at 2 Christian schools, Houghton and Grove City. Both would have been excellent choices for her, but she wanted more of a big world exposure- having gone to Christian schools all her life. Even going to community college for 2 years was an eye opener for her. Are you going to sew or knit/crochet (with a liner of course!) the rice bags? Simply amazing how something so easy to make can work so darned well.
Busy morning. Work and a doctors appointment.....(he says I am fine). NOt sure if we are going shopping tonight or tomorrow. It's still very cold and is supposed to warm up tomorrow.
Have a great day! Hi to Phyl and CJ Ginny

Meg, you do sound tired. I hope after the shopping trip you will be able to stay home and just rest.
Ginny, I think a lot of kids go to school without proper clothing, not because they don't have it or because their parents don't tell them too but because it's "cool" to go without a coat, gloves and hat. When my son was young he never wanted to wear a coat and my dd has the same problem with her kids. she'd buy them nice coats that were "in style" so they would wear them and then out of the house...off the coat would come and they would often leave the coat, etc in their locker at school. Then there's the parents that have to work and aren't home to see what the kids go to school in. Then of course they are the negligent parents.
Ginny, my one cousin went to Grove City. He then went into the Army then to law school and now makes money hand over fist being an attorney. Another cousin went to Houghton. I'll tell you in email where my dgs wants to go. I have a person that reads all my posts and uses the info. I feel bad for her but evidentally doing what she does brings her some joy so I just put private things in email only.
Today I'm going to do laundry I think while I crochet. I forgot I ordered some nice yarn for hats which I think the girls will like.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well and staying warm
Ruth - I'm glad you finished your cards. Boy, you really do have a lot of projects lined up to work on, but I'm sure they'll all be enjoyable.
Ginny - Hope you got a little rest today, and I'm happy to hear you did some crafting.
Meg - Sounds like you were really busy yesterday, hopefully today was easier.
Phyl - Hope you are well.
I finished cutting all my fabric for the quilt class tomorrow, and got all my supplies together so I'll be ready to leave in the morning. It's looking like the ice will turn to rain before I have to go out, so hopefully I'll be O.K.
The class is just for one day - 2 hours - so we'll only just get a start on the quilt. That's why I wanted to have all my fabric already cut so that I can continue to work on the quilt myself and not put it aside as an unfinished project.
I had lunch out today with a group that I see once a month. We used to have 8 people, but now we're done to 6 and some months (like this one and last) only have 3 or 4 of us there. But it's still nice to eat out and visit.
Take care everyone

Hello all. It's still snowing here but it's so pretty when you don't have to go out in it. If it was warmer I'd go out and make a snowman.Too cold though.
I'm working on the hats. The pattern that Ginny sent and also anohter that I found in my email that looks like it has ridges. It's nice but my ridges aren't standing out as much as it looks on the pic with the pattern. I'm thinking that if you used a second color yarn just on the ridge rows it would look really nice so I'm going to try that tomorrow.
It's about time to find some dinner so I'm going to go up and get some together. I think I heard dh up there a few minutes ago so he was probably warming his. He's in his "man cave which leaves me to watch Law and order reruns while I crochet. He is not fond of Law and Order.
CJ, it's great that you got your fabric all cut out and are ready to go on the class. I hope the weather does cooperate so you can get there and back home safely.
Have a great evening all.. Meg I hope you got some rest.
