Sleep is so important. When we don't get enough we struggle, we can't think clearly. We don't want to move. We struggle to make good food choices. We'll grab what's easy instead of preparing healthy foods. Personally, if I'm overtired, I just don't care.
A good night's sleep doesn't just happen. Just like this program, we need to think and plan ahead. How many hours' sleep would you like to get (realistically). Based on the time you need to get up, what time do you need to go to bed? (Add an extra 1/2 hour to allow for falling asleep, and nighttime restlessness and/or bathroom trips). You should plan on shutting off computer/phone at least 1/2 hour before you should go to bed. Ideally you shouldn't watch TV during that 1/2 hour either but I know how unlikely that is for me.
Now that you know what time you need to shut down electronics, you need to factor in the things you need to do before bed. What are those things? Picking up? Loading the dishwasher? Bathroom trip, brush teeth? etc. Plan time in to do those before bed. There's an old joke about all the things a woman does after deciding to go to bed and before she actually gets there, while the man just goes right to bed.
Knowing what time you need to start your bedtime routine will help you to be more likely to get to bed on time and get a decent night's sleep.
QOTD: How much sleep do you usually get? Is it as much as you'd like to get? What are your obstacles to getting enough sleep? What can you do to counter them?
COTD: Come up with a plan to get to bed on time tonight Follow your plan

AOTD: How much sleep do you usually get? 6.5-7 hours Is it as much as you'd like to get? No, I function best with 7 hours sleep. I'd love to get more but it's not realistic at this time. What are your obstacles to getting enough sleep? Generally, myself. I end up staying up late either watching TV or playing on my phone while watching TV. I can't really get upstairs before 10:15 (DS) and the alarm goes off at 6. What can you do to counter them? Just follow my sleep schedule! I procrastinate when it comes to going to bed and I need to stop that.
COTD: My plan to get to bed on time tonight: Pick up DS at 10 - I'll be there at 10 waiting for him to get out. When I get back home, no TV, no phone. Just bathroom, pills Go upstairs and go to sleep!

I apologize for signing up late and dropping out early. Feel the need to be "computer free" for awhile. Wishing you all the best! See you in 2017. Marie

Sometimes not being able to get to sleep, other times waking up in the middle of the night and not being able to go back to sleep. What can you do to counter them? How much sleep do you usually get? About 6+ to 7 hours.
Is it as much as you'd like to get? No. Often I feel tired during the day. I think I do best at between 7 and 8 hours a night.
What are your obstacles to getting enough sleep? I stay up too late at night. My alarm is set for 5:45 Monday through Friday; I aim at leaving the house at 7:15 (though often I leave later than that) to get to where Iβm going (start time is 7:30).
What can you do to counter them? (a) nap during the day (ha!) (b) go to bed earlier (also: ha! 10:00 is just too early to get to sleep; even if Iβm in bed that early, I donβt fall asleepβ¦)

I usually get and feel good with 8 hours of sleep. I do get up at 5:30 and leave for work about 7:30 to get there at 8.
I got to bed no later than 9 p.m. if I can help it.
Have a great day all!

QOTD: How much sleep do you usually get? Fitbit tells me it is usually 6-7 hours. I get up at 530am 7 days a week to walk.
Is it as much as you'd like to get? I would like more like 7 - 8
What are your obstacles to getting enough sleep? Being on the west coast, our primetime/news doesn't come on til 11pm. If I am wanting to see the local news, I have to stay up.
But, when I go to bed, I don't have any trouble falling asleep. I am usually asleep in 5 minutes.
What can you do to counter them? Not sure.

Usually around 7 hours.
I'm not sure how much longer I'd sleep, if I did have more time to sleep.
I start work at 4:00 AM, so if I want to have any sort of life in the evenings (meetings, dog training classes, etc), I might not get to sleep in time to meet that 7 hours all the time.
I'm OK with this aspect of life. :-)

I am a terrible sleeper, it is one of the worst things about me. It has effected my life in so many, many different ways. If I take sleeping pills, which I hate to do, I will get about 3 or 4 hrs before I wake up & can't get back off to sleep. When I can't go back to sleep, I get up, get in my recliner & watch tv. after a couple of hrs, I often get cold & sleepy, I go back to bed, & sometimes get a couple of more hrs. Without the pills, I will be lucky to sleep 2 hrs per nite. Sure wish this was different, but it's not.

Jan, yes, Eugene has different weather than we do... My son and his family live not too far from Ashland, maybe an hour or so from the California state line. I speak with my grandson every week, and he tells me what the weather's been like since the last time we spoke (actually, he usually asks me about our weather before giving me his local weather report).
