Happy Leap Day! Pretty picture, Karen. Thanks for the start. On the move today preparing for the apocalypse. Kathy, I just found out that on March 17 the First Four in men’s NCAA will be in town. Yikes! Put that with St Paddy’s Day and the primary and it will be nuttier than peanut butter around here. Becky, Liz, I hope the joints are kind to you today. Linda, I hope Bob is healing and you are getting some sleep.

Happy Sadie Hawkins Day. I was born in a leap year so we did have a lot of dances and parties on February 29th while I was growing up. How about the rest of you?
Linda, how is the patient doing today? Day 3 is usually the worst. That was an excellent comprehensive list of post-surgery needs. I hope you can avoid too many more trips out for odd items. I'm kind of surprised the surgeon or his/her nurse didn't mention that a hospital gown might be a good thing for home. When I had my hiatal hernia surgery, the staff covered in detail things that would make my recuperation at home more comfortable.
You mean the apocalypse that's a hoax (according to Trump), Chele? I heard something from a scientist last night that this well could be like the 1918 flu that does go dormant through the summer and then comes back with a vengence in the fall. I hope it won't be out of sight out of mind by then and a lot of people get very ill and/or die as a result of our short-sightedness. One big difference is that there was a bacterial component in 1918-19, where this seems to be totally viral, and that might make it worse in some ways. I have an order from Thrive Market arriving today with some of our regular staples including organic oats. What kind of things did you purchase? I plan to get frozen spinach and kale so I can keep my greens intake if we can't get to the store for salad. OMG on voting and NCAA on the same day. Will Iggy be voting early as a result? I remember he was pretty tied up on NCAA round 1 weekend last year. TN just has the presidential primary on Super Tuesday and we won't vote in the local or state primary until May, which I think is kind of stupid. I think they just wanted to be a Super Tuesday state for the hype. Did you get any snow?
Kathy, are you warming up any today? We got up about 6:30 and it's still only 3 degrees warmer as I post this. I wonder if a lot of your pond critters are believing Punxatawney Phil and migrating early. Did you make chili? I had some of mine last night and I think I overdid it a bit on the chili powder. I was glad I had that wonderful Publix bread to cool my mouth a bit between bites.
What about your weather, Becky? Is it going to be warm enough to walk outdoors today? Until Linda mentioned catheters, I hadn't thought about how difficult it might be for you to get back and forth to the bathroom while you're recovering. I hope you don't have a step-in tub/shower to contend with.
Liz, are you getting some rest today? I hope the hospital preparations will be doable mostly on week days. Are you already gearing up for staff training so you won't be in the same boat as UC-Davis having to put so many critical staff members on home quarantine because they weren't prepared for the patient transferred in without knowing she had Covid-19?
Yes, we did get snow over night. The avatar is from Bullhead Trail in the GSMNP where they had 8 inches and it drifted to over a foot. We got probably an inch and most of it has melted. We watched a Giants spring training game we DVR'd last night and I cooked eggs for Arya. I also did some treadmill time and have gotten 523 of 400 intensity minutes this week, despite it being a recovery week for me. I'll be catching up on The Crown for the rest of the afternoon. Hope it's a happy one for all.

Patient finally sleeping better, just on Tylenol, eating a decent amount finally. Surgeons never seem to deal with practicalities. That is one reason they are surgeons..cut and fix folks
...Nurses do! If you are lucky there is a good discharge list. And most docs are useless on diet. You google it!
If you have a catheter you do not want alcohol, caffeine, spices, and acids like tomato or citrus. Those make the bladder mad.
Pretty snow picture.
Lot of people sick with flu and things it sets off now...another round of flu season this year.Glad I got the shot later this year.
Someone on another thread said stores are emptying of foods and meds for quarantine fears...had not thought about confinement, just meds from China like Advil and tylenol which I got at Costco. One can have stores deliver groceries.

Thanks for the start Karen.Your snow looks pretty from a distance.
Karen We had local, state and federal candidates for our primary. We did do early voting. If I were voting Democrat I believe I would have voted for Amy.She really seemed to make more sense than the others on the last debate and the only one who didn't yell over everyone else. It's 76 at 2:00 and since we didn't have much to do today I got my walk in before lunch. We have a 1/2 bathroom that isn't far from the LR.We only have a shower and no it's not a step in.Thank goodness we have a ramp outside instead of steps so that will be easier getting back in.We just need to take some things out of the LR so it's wide enough to get a walker through that they will send me home with.It has everything Linda mentioned in my pre-op papers. They are very thorough and telling me which pills I need to stop taking a week before which is Wednesday and that is hard to believe. It's really gone by quickly.
Linda I'm glad Bob is sleeping and eating better and only using Tylenol. With the anti-inflammatory I am on Tylenol is all I can take.I have to stop taking the anti-inflammatory a week before but can continue to take Tylenol up until the day of surgery. The intake nurse at the hospital was very helpful with information.
Waving to Liz and Kathy.

Karen, thanks for the start. Pretty picture. I wasn't born in a leap year and for some reason, I don't remember us ever celebrating Sadie Hawkins day. I've also wondered if the birds migrated when it got really warm last week. It's still in the 60s today and windy, but we're supposed to get up to 90 by Wednesday. Ugh! I've had that Italian bread from Publix before and it is very good. Their mountain bread is good too. I haven't made the chili yet.
Chele, lol on the nuttier than peanut butter prediction. How was the apocalypse shopping? I keep thinking of The Stand by Stephen King. I'm taking DM to CVS and the grocery store tomorrow, so I'm hoping the shelves aren't cleared out by then. I think it will get nuts here as soon as we have a case in this area. Our governor said there are no confirmed cases in FL, but then admitted that the state doesn't have any testing kits. Well, that takes care of that!
Linda, glad the patient is sleeping better.
Becky, I agree that the snow looks pretty from a distance. I'm waiting until after Super Tuesday to send in my ballot in case anyone drops out by the 17th. We only have the presidential race on the ballot, so it's a simple one this time.
Liz, how are you doing?

Thanks for the YouTube link, Linda. We are all pretty smart and health conscious here, so I don't see any of us taking unnecessary chances. It looks like, if the death toll mirrors that of 1918, there could be 21 million fewer people due to this virus. That's a scary number! I'm glad Bob is doing so well. Is he getting cabin fever yet or does he have a lot of things to keep him occupied so that doesn't happen?
Kathy, I hadn't seen the Mountain Bread at Publix so I checked online and for some reason, my store doesn't carry it. YIKES! on 90 coming up so soon. No reason to make chili with that on the horizon. What I fear on the shopping blitz is that if this takes its time developing, people will think it's a hoax if there haven't been school closures, etc., before they run out of all this food they are buying for the coronapocalypse. That may make it worse if this one wraps around in the fall like Spanish Influenza did in 1918 because they will let down their guard. I hope you and DM will have pantry options because I'm guessing the grocery stores haven't had time to gear up for the onslaught hit. I didn't realize you had a case there. The cruise ship situation was actually brought to the attention of the federal government when a doctor and his wife from Johnson City, TN who were on the Diamond Princess, contacted a physician friend who also happens to be a US congressman. I have to wonder if they would still be on the ship if it hadn't been for that contact. The last I heard, we have no cases in TN because the doc and his wife are some place else in quarantine (she tested positive). I decided not to vote early for the reason you will be waiting until after Super Tuesday. If anybody drops out after SC's results today, especially Amy, I may need to change my preferred candidate.
That half bath is going to be handy for you while you're recovering, Becky. We have one of those as well that is a straight shot from the living room and it really saved me after foot surgeries. It sounds like your medical folks have done a good job of getting you prepared for the things you need to know as you recover. It will also be helpful for you to now have the larger fridge so you can stock up a bit and Kenneth won't have to go to HEB or WM as often. Funny you should mention the snow being pretty from a distance. This morning I checked in with my GF who lives in Gatlinburg and she didn't have snow at her house (she lives closer to town), but said the same thing about the view because she can see the mountains. Some hiker actually went out and took that trail photo. More power to him!

I just read on one of my news apps that a person in Washington State has died of the coronavirus but no details were given. It's the first confirmed death in the US.

Karen, I haven't heard of a confirmed case in FL yet, but they have finally started testing people. One woman in Sanford thinks she might have it, but they hadn't tested her yet. She tested negative for the flu, but has similar symptoms. You would think your area would have the Mountain Bread! Ours has it in whole wheat and white.

Becky it was a man in his 50s (but Trump said it was a woman) with pre-existing medical conditions. I just saw it on The Daily Beast, and they reported in the same article that they also had a nursing home in the same area of Washington that appears to have some cases. There are 108 patients and 180 staff, plus all the family and friends in and out visiting patients. That didn't sound good, especially since a lot of the patients probably have pre-existing conditions.
I search my Publix for "Whole Wheat Mountain Bread" at my Publix and they might have it. I'll have to look when I'm there next week. I don't know why I'm in a bakery bread mood all of a sudden. I hope the Sanford woman doesn't have the virus. Did you hear if she has been out of the country or contact with someone who has been out of the country?

Karen One thing I don't like about Trump talking about the coronavirus is his downplaying it's seriousness and saying it's a Democratic hoax.He really needs to get a grip on that.I just wish he would stay off Twitter period.

Becky, I agree. I read an article a little while ago about how some government agencies downplayed the risks of the 1918 Spanish Influenza and it led to more deaths. They apparently were doing it to try to keep morale up, after all it was during WW1, but it backfired. I wish he and Pence would let the scientists do the talking. The bureaucrats doing is in apparently what got China and Iran in the positions they are currently in.

Karen, the woman in Sanford said she had been to NJ and had been in contact with some people who were sick. I don't know if they were confirmed to have the virus though. It was a big story on the local news since she was saying she wanted to be tested and they weren't doing it. FL is just starting to get the test kits in, so I hope they do test her. I agree the politicians should let the scientists do the talking and not make this a political thing.

Sciatica night again. today was to be restful...nope.
You got me thinking about stocking up on dog food and a couple things. Then I realized I have been doing such small grocery trips that I am out of or almost out of lots of stuff! Two cases of his special food at Pet Smart. Whole bunch of stuff at Safeway.
DH cannot lift anything right now, so I dragged it all in. ouch
Laptop table I need by his bed now got wobbly and so I moved stuff around to sub until I figured out to tightened screws at base. sigh.ouch
Should have stayed with puzzle.
