It is simply exhausting hearing about yet another example of covid-related stupidity. Heartbreaking and exhausting. There is not much left to say.... ETA: bbbearsmom : I clicked on the link to the article and apparently someone came to their senses and the Thanksgiving event has been canceled.

fullmahina, Thanks for the update. Good decision on their part. All I could think of was: Mom and Dad before I come home for Thanksgiving I'm going to go to a party with 200 other people.

ETA: bbbearsmom : I clicked on the link to the article and apparently someone came to their senses and the Thanksgiving event has been canceled. The level of stupidity is exhausting, but so is the level of 'I just dont think or care about others'. I just read this article, which was a sobering read. I'm concerned about my two nephews coming home this weekend for the remainder of the year. One is very, very careful and his partner is a nursing student who gets tested weekly I think. So they think they're safe. Hey, I spied a video online of his surprise bday party and he and his partner were both wearing masks so I was so proud of him. But my other nephew is at a school that is is Red Alert mode from the local public health department and I think they should both quarantine in their rooms when they get home - they're rooms are the size of studio apartments and they have their own bathrooms, they just need food. That's what I'd do, but I don't know if my sister will do that. I hope she does, I have to have another conversation with her about it today.
Best quote from this article was this:
It sums up the 20-30 year old super spreaders mentality, they lack empathy about how personal actions lead to communal actions and harm. Isn't that shit that they should have learned in kindergarten and/or from their parents?!?

My nephew lives in a suburb of Albuquerque and he just posted that the lines are starting up again outside Wal-Mart, Target, and the grocery stores. Instead of waiting in a line of 60 people at Wal-Mart for groceries he went to a neighborhood Mexican market to get groceries and was in and out.

I had to get a few things yesterday. No line at CVS. No line at Sprouts. But there was a line at Market Street (upscale Albertsons). And all of the stores were out of things. Sprouts has put a limit on how many packages of meat (including chicken) you can buy.

luanne, This is going to be self-fulfilling prophecy at work. People worry that there will be hoarding, so they hoard, then other people see that so they hoard. I did buy toilet paper today just one package of nine rolls.

California just imposed a 10 PM to 5 AM curfew on "purple tier" counties. They're the ones with the worst Covid case rate. Practically the whole state is in the purple tier, including my county. Essential activites are excluded. I'm sure it will be on the honor system like the first shelter in place was. They're calling it a "Limited Shelter In Place."
We already had limits of 1 or 2 items for paper goods as of yesterday, which was the last time I went shopping.

luanne, On a thread on the General board there is a discussion about people hoarding again and stores starting to put limits on items. Again, toilet paper seems to be the first thing people hoard. Our septic guy told my husband people were doing damage to their septic systems with the things they were using instead of toilet paper, like paper towels.

luanne, lani, What I hadn't been paying attention to is the calls for a national lockdown by the Biden team. I guess that could spark hoarding. I've seen recent new stories that Biden has said there will not be a national lockdown.

bbbearsmom, even if there's a national mask mandate, the people who think it's "fake" (covid, election, etc) won't follow it. Maybe if there started to be some repercussions like fines, they would.
