I have been wondering about the duration of immunity from a third shot vs. the first two. I finally saw an article in the WSJ that said while it can't be stated with certainty, data so far indicate that the immunity from third shot/booster may last longer than the six months of protection that is obtained from getting the first two. So, yay.

bbbearsmom , yep, so did ours a while ago. (Calif.) But the statewide website to schedule only got updated today, causing the usual confusion. I've also heard people trying to schedule at pharmacies still got the old questionnaire where you had to be over 65 or a few other qualifiers. I hope the pharmacies have updated their scheduling criteria as well.

New Mexico also is offering the boosters to everyone. But the state website seems to be having problems and it's better to go through a pharmacy. Dh was able to make his appointment through the state website, I went through the CVS website.

Remember, Mr. Lani and I got illegal third shots of Moderna at CVS on Sept. 2. I was uneasy about when the booster approval would go through. I'm happy with our decision. Also happy we got the full dose and not half.
Now that our state has opened up boosters for anyone, appointments have become very hard to schedule, at least in the Bay Area and where I live. Everyone wants to vax up ahead of the holidays. The officials say things should get better in "a few weeks". This includes appointments at the pharmacies. There is some scarcity of the children's dose at some pharmacies, as well.

My dd, who is 31, decided she wanted to get her third shot. She had Moderna for the first two and wanted it for the third as well. She hasn't been able to find anywhere in our area where she can get it. Since Moderna was just approved by the FDA for the booster maybe it will take a little bit of time for availability to ramp up.

DH and I both got our Moderna boosters from Walgreen's about three weeks ago. Our son-in-law, who had gotten a J&J vaccine, also got his before we got ours, no questions asked.
Our daughter who works with the public but is otherwise ineligible according to the NY rules got her booster almost two weeks ago at CVS. They asked no questions whatsoever---the only concern was the date of her second Moderna vaccine and whether she had booked an appointment.
At this point no one who feels they need the vaccine, regardless of the technicalities, is preventing others from getting it. That was not the case when the vaccines came out, where if you were jumping the line you were truly stealing the vaccine from those who needed it more.
Both the Moderna and Pfizer vaccines are very widely available here and we have even started holding walk-in local popup vaccine events.

My state (Connecticut): COVID-19 cases are increasing more rapidly here than in any other states according to numbers released on Friday. I had stopped wearing a mask in the grocery store when my city had dropped the mask mandate, now I think I'll go back to wearing one again. Did go out to breakfast with a friend last weekend but now I'm not so sure I'll be going out again any time soon.

Did go out to breakfast with a friend last weekend but now I'm not so sure I'll be going out again any time soon. We never stopped wearing our masks and still wipe down our groceries. My husband has an autoimmune disease (in addition to other issues) and we are not taking any chances. My daughter got remarried last month. She was planning a bigger event for next year (already booked) but they decided to just have a small ceremony and when things calm down they will have a celebration. The ceremony was outdoors on a beautiful day and it was only her and her fiance and me and my husband. It was lovely and very intimate and perfect. LOL---she even got us masks that were printed with "Mother of the Bride" and "Father of the Bride"! It's simply how it has to be for us right now. Others may be comfortable doing more but when we weight risk vs benefit we have to do what is right for us.

Our county (Santa Cruz CA) has reinstated indoor mask wearing for everyone, vaccinated or not. We are having a spike in cases. DH and I have continued indoor mask wearing anyway. The county to the south (Monterey) lifted their indoor mask requirement. What are you gonna do?

New Mexico is experiencing a spike as well. The indoor mask mandate hadn't been lifted, and has been extended by our governor. We're being given reasons for the spike like since we were so early to start vaccinating the vaccine effects are wearing off. However, the greatest number of those hospitalized are still the unvaccinated.

There is a fun new variant <sarcasm font> identified: Omicron. Has 30 mutations. It needs study before it can be determined if it is more transmissible, more lethal, or resistant to the current vaccines. It has been found in South Africa, Belgium, Hong Kong, Botswana and Israel, mainly in travelers from Africa, I believe.
