Slow day in the Cafe!
I have caught up on all your doings.
Judy- Awesome job on the WL!!! I laughed about DGS loving the pots, pans and wooden spoons. All my DGKs did, too. Climbing in and out of clothes baskets, big boxes and tents made with blankets and a couple of dining chairs are also great fun. I even have a bowling set made of leftover powdered coffee creamer containers and a tennis ball. I still have Barbies and dollhouses that my girls enjoyed when they were little and various games. When one of DD1's kids got duplicate gifts, one came to live at my house. I use a closet in one bedroom as the toy closet.
Ann - I hope your walks were good. I'm glad your dental work went well and the partial fits. DH is anxious to get his new partial. He still has a few days before he will be healed enough to have the impression made. Meanwhile, Abby thinks he's scary-looking with his missing teeth, lol.
Sue - I am sure your DH is "sick & tired of being sick & tired". Hopefully, the Z pak will put an end to it. Your exercise classes sound fun! It's nice that there are familiar faces. Have you had a yoga class yet? How did you like it?
I have had a busy week filling in for my hospice supervisor. She called today to say she is extending her time off a few more days. It looks like I may be in charge of Saturday's fund raiser, a 50-50 raffle at a local car show. The thought of being in charge of the money makes me nervous, but I couldn't tell her no, especially after she confided her niece is so upset over her father's recent death (my supervisor's brother) that she is suicidal. She has attempted before, so they are very concerned.
Yesterday, we interviewed 5 candidates for the credit union CEO position. Our favorite aced the interview and the other candidates were very good for the most part, though not all are qualified for the CEO position. I congratulated the current CEO on having a very good staff. We asked tough questions and then each of us scored them on a matrix. One of the committee members will compile the scores, but I am pretty sure who will come out on top. Afterwards, 3 of us went out for a late lunch at my favorite restaurant, which is near the credit union office. I had a cup of crab and brie soup and a fried crawfish salad, both of which were delicious.
Today, I had my hair appointment for a fresh cut and color and then made 2 hospice visits. Afterwards, I did desk work, sending out thank you's and notices to families about memorial donations and a sympathy card to the family of a patient who died this week. Then I came home and cooked a chicken stew, blackeyed peas, spinach and brown rice for our dinner before heading to choir practice. Now, I am jammified and watching 50's music on the PBS Channel's fund drive. The songs remind me of my mom singing along with the radio and of all the musical variety shows that used to be on tv when I was a kid.
Several cases of coronavirus have popped up in the greater NOLA area, so I am sure BTR will be next. The governor has declared a state of emergency. Lots of events are being cancelled and tonight LSU announced that all their sporting events will be closed to the public, which is sure to cause an uproar among season ticket holders. I understand now that though the virus spread cannot be stopped, they will try to slow it down so that medical facilities don't get overwhelmed as happened in Wuhan and Italy and Iran. I read an account from someone in Italy that talked about orthopedists and ophthalmologists having to treat patients because there weren't enough doctors to handle the load. It described the extreme emotional distress of medical personnel having to triage and decide who gets a ventilator/ICU/treatment and who doesn't and is left to die. One nurse described losing 6-8 patients in her care per day. So sad! I hope and pray it doesn't get that bad here.
The state nursing home association has requested that all visitors stop going to nursing homes, so I'm not sure how long it will be before they stop our hospice volunteers from visiting. I am scheduled to give out SMP brochures at a large gathering of elderly people in a neighboring parish next week. I will be carefully considering skipping it if they don't cancel the event.
Tomorrow promises to be another busy day. I will go to our mission church 10 miles north for a small group bible study at 9:30, as it was the only time I could manage it. I should make it back in time to head to BTR for a birthday lunch with DD2, stopping on the way to pick up a card. We went in with her sisters on some lovely earrings she had on her wish list and will add a little cash to the birthday card. Afterwards, DH is headed to Home Depot and I will attend a regional meeting of the Retired State Employees Association. I am hoping to make it home for a breather before yoga at 5:30.
Time to shut down and get some sleep!
