If the book is a novel, then the political agenda of the author has no place. Most of us read for entertainment....not to read about someones political agenda. But that is my opinion. Good that your snow melted, Ruth. Hope that if you get 3 to 6 inches that it melts quickly and needs no shoveling on your part. I cannot even remember the name of the Caron yarn I used 30 years ago. I know they no longer make it.....Too bad that the afghan is boring (the baby afghan is also but due to its size it goes quickly)- but the upside is that it is a pretty pattern. Will you use up all the yarn on that afghan??
Looks like we will be required to wear masks if social distancing is not possible- so tomorrow I will make more masks and hopefully with the new machine. It will help me get used to it. Gotta take the older cat to the vet tomorrow. He is passing a small amount of blood in his urine- and urinary infections are common in male cats. He is eating and acting pretty normal. I am praying i can get him seen tomorrow and that its only a minor infection. Heโs old....but such a good pet.
time to crochet. Ginny

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all feeling well and doing well Ginny - I hope you can get the open toe foot from the dealer. Hope your cat is O.K. Ruth - Sounds like you are working on several enjoyable projects. Sue - Breakfast for dinner is always good. Phyl and Meg - Hope you are getting some crafting, or something fun, done. I made a half recipe of French bread today and it turned out pretty well. It makes just enough for me for a few days. The yeast I used expired recently, but I checked it and it bloomed alright. I didn't want to throw it out without trying to use it since it's so difficult to find in the store. Not much else going on here, but the weather is pretty nice, just a bit cool. Hope you are all having some nice spring weather. Take care everyone!

I love having breakfast for dinner
Ginny, I'm glad to hear that the cases in your county and especially the death numbers are going down and I hope they stay that way. I'm sorry to hear that your cat is sick. I hope it's something simple and he's well fast.I'm not doing the boring afgan. It's one I've made several of in the past. just had to mention it because the yarn was bought for that pattern. I think it's really too heavy for a baby but it would make a nice mat for the baby to be on on the floor. The one I'm making will be a light one for my neice in Calif...I keep saying that but then I change my mind on which one I'm going to send.
Aside from cooking I didn't get much done today. I finally made an apple crips with the apples the neighbor brought over last week. Dh liked it. I didn't care all that much for it.
CJ, yeast does seem to last quite a ways past it's exp date.I always let mine bloom but the last time when I made the pizza I think I killed the yeast with having the water too hot
Oh, the book I'm reading is a novel.I think I'll just quit reading novels where the author uses them to promote their own political views.

CJ- good to hear that your yeast was still good. I used to buy yeast in jars, and I have had some trouble with yeast in a jar not lasting much beyond its date - but perhaps because the yeast was opened and not in a sealed packet. Bet that french bread smelled good coming out of the oven! With the cooler temps we have had, warm bread is a nice treat. Have the Covid cases in your area peaked? Unfortunately I hear little about other areas unless its something that the national news picks up on. They tend (as I am sure everyone here notices with disdain) to focus on NYC.
Ruth, well when you create as much as you do, it makes sense that you would have many choices of an afghan to send to your niece. Yes, light afghan would be in order for California. Also more economical to send. The one really heavy baby afghan I have (the magnificent one my DSIL made for DD#2) was too heavy for inside use, but perfect for use in the stroller on cooler days. My kids spent a lot of time in the stroller.... Glad your Dh loved the apple crisp you made. that is another thing that smells wonderful coming out of the oven!! It would be so nice if a web site could be created where novels are rated by their political content.I was happy that the last Jennifer Chiraverini novel was missing her political rants (minor, but still annoying)- but have sort of vowed that I will most likely avoid her writing now anyway. Her historical novels are ok- its just the Elm Creek Quilters series that she inserts current politics in. Guess for now we will just have to take book recommendations from friends who have similar sensitivities.
Got a little bit of crocheting in. Waiting for a phone call from my vet, who has limited hours due to the virus. Really?? This cat seems absolutely NORMAL. He is eating and drinking and acting just like himself. I am wondering if I can just have the vet give me an antibiotic for cat urinary tract infections- treat it for a week- and see how that goes. He absolutely did pass a bit of blood and perhaps a little this am....so I think there is something up. I hear that the local vets will not permit the owner in with the pet for examination- they take the animal at the door- perform their exam- and return the animal to the owner outside. This cat is very docile-and while i would be a comfort to him in the office, he is not super high strung and would be ok.
Sue- you made breakfast for dinner!!! Love it!
Phyl- hope that your silence is not an indication that you or a family member are sick. We miss you
Time to spend some time in the word.

HI girls, we are ok. not much happening here. took a day off from masks yesterday.
need to start cleaning this house.. making mask everything else got put aside.
I do not want to clean Friday or Saturday.would not do it on a Sunday.
I like J.C., the last book I read was MRS LINCOLN'S DRESSMAKER. STILL need to read Mrs.LINCOLN'S RIVAL.that was a Christmas present a few years ago.had not read the books in between M.L.R. till the CHRISTMAS BOUTIQUE CAME OUT.
I was looking so forward to this book.it was like the first half was a repeats of some of the characters.I think she could have shortened those chapters.
sad you have to read a book half way before it gets into the real story.
I Found a new series I like.Ann Hazelwood think the first book is the potting shed quilt or the basement quilt.it is series and their is ghost in it.yes it is quilting stories.light reads.
I found out about a book I might order. Pasty and me. by Loretta Lynn.
well I better get started at least on this room . phyl
hope Kitty will be ok.

Well we got the promised snow just not as much as they predicted as usual. The southeast part of the state, which is the part you have to go through in order to go anywhere out of this state, got a lot and I-80 was closed there and that part of I-25.Not that we were going on any trip right now anyway.
I need to clean my house too, Phyl. I started a good cleaning of the kitchen the other day intending to do drawers and cupboard shelves but didn't get far with that. Crocheting is much more fun. I used to be a big country music fan and enjoyed some of Loretta Lynn's songs. She is interesting. She lived a life of poverty growing up and I don't think either she or her husband ever know how to handle having money.
Ginny, thanks for reminding me about my collection of blankets. I want to get out at least one and do the long awaited edging. I need to get those finished. The blanket I told you about would make a good stroller blanket for sure. All it is is a couple rows of sc in one color then a row of sc in the second row back...long or dropped sc. It turns out beautiful esp with certain yarns but I've made it with the variegated as the dropped stitch and also a solid color there and they turned out pretty equally pretty. I actually have one in that bin that only is about 1/4 done so may get that out for a mindless project. I think a person could do that one in their sleep.

Good evening, Phyl - good to see you here! With all the health scares out there, I was hoping and praying that you and your family were ok. Glad you checked in. I completely agree with you about the Christmas Boutique. (Actually I still have it here as our library has been closed for a month). She WASTED a third of the book just selling her own brand- the names of the Elm Creek quilters and the family name was repeated way too much- yes she was trying to bring a new reader up to speed with the details of the series but it could have been accomplished in much less space. IMO a good editor would have had her fix that problem.. But that authors historical books are good and free standing. Will have to read Mrs Lincolns Rival, I have read Mrs Lincolns dressmaker and enjoyed it. Glad you found a new book series to read. How many masks did you end up making?? Looks like we will be using them for awhile.
Ruth, when you and Phyl finish cleaning your homes, mine could use some attention also. Ha ha ha. Glad I reminded you of another afghan you were working on. I get the feeling if I could ever see everything that you made, I would be astounded at the volume of it and your talent. Really You are so creative. Hope you find a good project to work on this evening.
So my crafting today was to watch 2 videos on my machine to figure out how to thread it and make a bobbin. Enough for one day. The shop owner ordered the foot I need for my free motion work, so that will give me a week to play and try to learn what this new fangled machine can do. Took the cat to the vet, and we are waiting for blood work to come back (tomorrow). The vet has him not as 22 years old, but 23. He is such a sweet animal. And I spent an hour on the phone with the financial consultant who will help me (I hope! ) figure out some investing issues. My dh was very good at this, and I am not as interested in it as he was. Guess I have a lot to learn though.
time to relax. Ginny

Hello Crafters I'm glad to hear everyone is well and your families are too. Hope we can all stay that way. I found out today that one of my favorite authors passed away last week of pancreatic cancer. She was only 60 - just so sad. She put out a book this year that kind of wrapped up a series she'd been writing for several years, so I really appreciate that she did that. I'll miss reading her books. It was a nice day, a bit cool, but very sunny. I went to the post office and dropped some bills/letters in the outside mailbox. All the grocery stores I passed were pretty busy. I'm guessing people are going more often to try and get things they can't find. I don't think the stores around here are very well stocked - or else they can't keep stocked. At this point I kind of think people are stockpiling food. I can understand doing that but things won't get back to normal until people just buy enough for 2 or 3 weeks - just my opinion Take care everyone!

Now I've forgotten what everyone said.
Phyl, yeast is one of the things I want to get too. If I get the opportunity I'll buy a jar of it although I may have to rethink that because I just remembered what Ginny said about jar yeast not lasting as well as that in the little packets. Maybe I didn't kill mine after all...maybe it was just too old.
CJ, Yes I would stock up for two or three weeks and leave the rest for others.Once all this is over I'll start buying extra each time I go rather than buy huge amounts at a time but I want to get my emergency stock back up to where is should be.
Ginny, my machine didn't come with a video but I'd bet I could find one online. I never liked watching videos but I'm getting more used to them and when you can't make out what they're showing in print the videos really come in handy. I hope the results for the kitty will be good. I never realized that cats lived that long. It's another reason to have a cat rather than a dog. Most dogs have way too short a lifespan.First time I knew about cats' longevity was when my friend in Arkansas told me her cat was 22 years old.
Oh and Phyl, I didn't get any cleaning done today either.
I did get some crocheting done though.I was trying a new pattern. The designer said she liked it because it forms "bumps" on the edges and requires no border. Well that's for me for sure. I'm all for that. Now that I started it I like it also so it's a winner all the way.

Did any of you get a stimulus check? We didn't so I went to the IRS site and put in the requested info and got a message saying they have no record of us. I've been paying income tax for 57 years!

Hello Crafters Phyl - Hope you can find some yeast. There sure must be a lot of baking going on because I've read a lot of people saying they can't find yeast anywhere Ruth - I did get my check - it was directly deposited into my bank account since that is where I get my tax returns sent to. If you got a tax refund as a direct deposit hopefully you'll get your check soon. If you get a refund mailed to you I had read those weren't coming out until May. Ginny - Hope the new machine is still working well. Sue and Meg - Hope you are well. It was a nice day here, just a bit cool. But I like that weather so I'm happy. I put my trash and recycling containers out today and they were picked up. I hadn't put them out for a few weeks, so I really needed the pickup. I usually just do it every other week, but I'd been putting it off since it had been rainy and windy on my pickup days. I cut out a few pieces of fabric to make 2 more masks for me. I hope to get them done this weekend. Hope you are all getting some crafting done. Take care everyone and have a great weekend!

CJ- so sorry that you lost a favorite author.....would you return to reread some of her books?? ( I had a series that was so good I have read most of the books at least twice). Glad you got your recycling and trash out- I donโt blame you for wanting it gone. Get those masks done! Looks like we will be needing them for awhile. And its time to stop the stockpiling. At least in my area, the county executive says that food supply is ok. Ruth, the website is www.sewingmastery.com. Quite a few machines are listed. I hope you can find yours. No I did not get my stimulus check and i did not get my tax refund either. Phyl- hope you are able to find yeast. If you do not use it much just get the packets with a good date. The yeast in the jars lasts around 4 months once its been opened. ( I usually mark the date I open it on the lid with a sharply). Painted the closet today and spent a few minutes trying to figure out the new machine. Ginny
