Just found out our stylist had a client who tested positive for COVID 19. Greg (our stylist) is getting tested today and will quarantine until he gets the results. Just dawned on me that if Greg tests positive dh should get tested as he was just there a couple of days ago. Our dd, who lives with us, thinks all of us should get tested now. Yeah, which is why your husband should not go back to a place where they aren't enforcing mask wearing for both clients and staff. You said he's a friend of yours, but someone who knowingly and willfully doesn't wear a mask and does not require other to do so is risking your and your husband's life. That's not a friend. Please, find another haircut place.
Also, if Greg tests negative doesn't mean your husband would too. If it were my husband we'd be quarantining for 14 days and getting tested after that because of the incubation period.
ETA: We were supposed to have haircuts today, but the infection rates are skyrocketing and since the 4th was a clusterf#ck of people from AZ and TX swarming to our beaches - which were supposed to close but our loser/corrupt mayor kept them open instead - so the beaches were covered with people from states who've not been adhering to masking and distancing they way we've been, and I'm concerned that that will translate to my hair stylist's clients being exposed if they went out and about last weekend. So we cancelled and rescheduled for next month and we'll reassess then. This is why - if you all remember my previous posts - my epidemiology friends urged us to get our haircuts the beginning of June when she reopened, because they said the rates would sky rocket as soon as folks were allowed to go outside. Ironically, if you look at the State of California's COVID19 page, we are technically still under stay-at-home orders, only allowed to go out for specific reasons, but it's not being promoted clearly and as much as it should be so I'm sure many folks think the order is over. It's not.

yeah we're not even allowed to go back to the office yet. it is tentatively reopening on july 31. even then, i'm not going back. i have now proven to myself that i can do 100% of my work from home. although i miss seeing my colleagues, it's not worth the risk.

Where did I say that Greg knowingly and willfully wasn't wearing a mask? I said that he didn't notice the client who came in without one (it wasn't his client). I blame the other stylist. Hopefully now that the salon has had a customer test positive they will really tighten up. And thanks for your concern, but we will continue to go to Greg for our hair needs.
I hear you about Arizona and Texas. We sit right between them. So, so many Texas license plates in town right now.

luanne, Oh, Greg had a client who tested positive. I misread it and thought Greg had tested positive. At least that is one removed.

My stylist called and left a message saying that the salon is open and whenever I am ready to make an appointment just give a call. I am not ready.
The dogs and DH are having their grooming done by me. I've accepted my graying roots and longer hair. Simply not worth it to me. I would wring my own neck if, after all we've been doing to stay safe these past months, we blow it by going to a salon or barbershop.
I was going to break down and have the younger pup groomed and even made an appointment for her. I left a message and the groomer called back and when I asked her if anything special was being done at the shop she said "Oh you can wear a mask if you want but I don't like any of that stuff" and I swear I could imagine her eyes rolling through the phone. And then she said "cash only." Huh? Most places are requesting cashless transactions via CC or DC. Strange....
So, I checked her out on FB. OMG---full of conspiracy theories about the virus, including long diatribes about freedom, the "covid lie," etc etc etc. All which signalled to me that she is not taking any precautions in her private life, why would she bother with them in the shop? End result, I cancelled the appointment.
I also had to wonder at the "cash only" part of the conversation. The FB page belonging to the shop says NOTHING about them opening up again and when you go past the shop it always has a "CLOSED" sign lit but I can see all the way to the back and people are moving around. I was thinking that they are getting unemployment on top of working and want nothing that would show otherwise, hence the cash instead of cashless.
Anyway...this looks like it is going to be a long and rocky road back to anything that even slightly resembles The Time Before Covid.
Virtual hugs to all.

wow so that groomer's shop is potentially fraudulently taking pandemic relief money and evading taxes by taking money under the table that will not be declared.
well, i suppose if the top 1% find legal ways to screw us out of taxes, it's really no different and it's all bad.

The whole situation with the groomer and the shop is a huge turn-off for me and I am done with them. If and when I take the little girl for a grooming I will take them to a grooming service that is run by one person. She is extremely conscientious (even sanitizes the dog's collar and lead before she takes them back out to meet you in her driveway) and my daughter has been taking her dogs to her for years. The woman's daughter has an autoimmune disease so she is extremely aware of how being careless could possibly affect her. For now, we will stay hunkered down. NY is listed as "steady" in its cases, essentially stagnant, but we have hundreds of new positive cases every day. A friend of mine, a respiratory therapist in Hawaii, is furious. Hawaii was down to nearly no cases per day and the other day they had 41 new cases. She said she passed the beach on July 4th and it was packed with people. What strikes me as particularly horrible about this is how easy it seems for case numbers and hospital admissions to rise when people let down their guard.

A couple of local malls are opening up today in WNY. Number of hospital and ICU cases have been decreasing and have been very low the past few weeks. I do think the malls opening are safer than stores like kohl’s opening. Kohl’s parking lot still looks like holiday time shopping, I can’t imagine distancing being observed there. At least in a mall everyone isn’t going to the same store. The anchor stores have been open for weeks because they have outside access. The lots near those stores never looked crowded.

Same here. All the buildings on campus are locked (I do have a key to my building IF I need to go into my office). Last I heard is our department head has approved us to work from home through December (and this was from a faculty member, not the head directly)! I know I can do my job from home, now that I have a home office set up! I do miss it and my grads, but it's really not worth the risk! Campus is set to open for classes in August. They are doing ALOT to get ready. I just wonder if it will be enough!

In New Mexico we are closing down to dine in at restaurants (outside is still okay). In addition masks are now required with no exceptions (I assume still not required when eating for drinking) when you are outside your home. This now includes gyms and when exercising. I told my trainer I would try using a mask on Monday, which is the next time I see her. If I really can't do it with a mask, I'm not sure what I'll do. But, I'm not doing any heavy cardio, so I might be okay. She also suggested trying a shield.
The other big part of the governor's announcement was there will be no contact sports (soccer, football) in the schools this Fall. No one seems surprised at that.
I had heard that gyms and salons were going to be closed down again, but that didn't happen.
Yes, rates in our state are going up, but still not to the extent of our neighboring states.

I heard an interesting story yesterday, seems there are Salons having their color clients sit in their cars during processing time, they get called back in when their color is ready to come off.
Personally I think it's awful.
The motive is to get more people in, we can have 1client to 1 stylist, do if you're sitting in your car with your color I can do another color or slip a haircut in.
I. Would. NEVER. Do. That. To. Any. Of. My. Clients.

One good hair dye stain on a leather car headrest and there would be hell to pay. :::Still getting a kick out seeing my gray come in and having hair long enough to tie back again:::

A client called while I was working last night, she was apologizing up and down for asking... how many people will be at the salon when I come in tomorrow?
I gladly answered her and asked her please not to apologize, we understand and are happy to give her this info.

Salons in CA are closed again.
Our governor canceled his news conference that was scheduled for today and rescheduled it for tomorrow night at 530.
I'm nervous

if we'd just all kept on lockdown and wore masks to the few essential places (and properly fund those who are out of work because of it), we'd be opening back up by now.
