Its Memorial Day- I so I won’t be saying “happy” Memorial Day- as we remember those who lost their lives in defense of our wonderful country. I will say that I will head over to the Veterans cemetery mid week- its been decorated with flags at each grave site.....just want to go by myself....and have plans to be in that town anyway on Wednesday.
Ruth, your advice makes sense, and I have almost never washed fabric before I quilted with it. And for that reason, I would not wash a charm pack- the pieces are too small. A fat quarter is a quarter yard, 18 x 22, and its made by cutting a half a yard length wise - so you do not get a skinny piece of fabric (9” x 45”) which would be difficult to cut a lot of pieces for quilting from. And I know many Wash their fabrics before they sew.....I have a friend who followed her gut to wash a fabric and she was right, the color ran like crazy. But the baby quilt I just finished, all fabrics were from the same manufacturer and part of a fabric series.....I did not wash it. Rag quilts don’t get washed until after they are completed.
Got family coming over in a few hours to celebrate DD’s birthday....hope that she is in a good mood. This first set of holidays will be challenging for sure.....I am hoping that the weather holds up so that I can make a small firepit fire, DGS LOVES to roast marshmallows.
Gonna miss the parade this year.....but I am sure there will be a parade next year.
And I think that yesterday, I went to open the window and in doing so must have knocked a wire from the TV.....its the only reason I can figure out why the TV (which is working now) went awry. NO explanation for the dryer, which even DD had trouble with.

The exception to fabrics and washing might be for masks. One of our quilting group wrote a grant to put a few women to work part time after they were laid off. The goal is to make masks for all the high school students in the county. She talked with one of the local store owners and probably got a discount. She is using batiks. Part of the prep process for her is a wash the fabric in very hot water. She's using batiks. The pattern used was recommended by our local hospital when they didn't have enough masks.
This morning is beautiful! The sun is a welcome sight today. Next weekend yeh temp will be in the mid 80s. Unusual! Too much for me. I need to get the air conditioner set up in the bedroom before then.

That is a nice thing- to make masks for all the HS students in the county.- I wonder why she felt the need to wash the fabric before making masks, unless it was to remove sizing or something like that before constructing the masks. Sue, glad you had such a pretty morning- gotta enjoy those days before it gets to be too hot. I totally agree with you that temps in the 80’s are too warm. Of course its all personal opinion however. 80’s are not too warm for 2 of my 3 kids.....
Phyl- I will pray for Danny that he makes it home safely from this last tour of duty...
Had everyone over to celebrate Dd#1’s bday- I see I mentioned that earlier and well personalities got in the way and Dd left in a huff. it’s important for my adult children to realize that we are all hurting..ya just gotta do the best you can to work through this difficult time. Its nobodies fault.... Unsure what I will do. Right now I am thinking of driving to a lake and walking there...might wait until 4 when I think the crowds will die down and I can spend some time in peace. I am looking forward to watching the show on General Grant tonight on the history channel. Ginny

Good morning!!
I started laying out the quilt I began several years ago.....got two hot days coming so it will be good to keep me busy and out of the heat.
After 2 months (over that) of being closed, my county is finally allowed to open in Phase 1 this morning. Good news for sure. Ginny

snowsaint, I've been pre-washing the fabrics for masks. They will be laundered a lot, so it's important they don't shrink too much. I made 20 masks for son to take to his co-workers today since he's been "setting a good example" and wearing them at work, some of his co-workers that were resisting have come around since they're opening back up (he works at a preparatory academy/school/daycare and they've only had essential workers kids for the past 2 months, so about 1/3 of their normal # of kids).

Rene, great that your son is setting such a good example by wearing his masks....I just do not get those who are not wearing masks. Makes no sense to me at all- not when compliance is so easy. I made two different size masks,DD likes the slightly smaller ones, DSIL an inch larger. I did not wash my fabrics, but understand why you did. Has he worked the whole time or is he just going back now? Heard from the long armer that my quilt is done! I am really excited....cannot wait to see it and get the binding on. Hopefully I can pick it up this weekend- I would like to combine it with another errand I have in that area. Got 6 rows of my falling charms quilt sewn- the others are pinned. I am starting to comeup with a strategy to finish it- I want to do a double border and will have to pick up more fabric for that. I have fabric that I bought for the border and now think that a second darker border would really set the fabrics off well. Will have to start looking online to see what I can find. www.youtube.com/watch?v=4KkpbFKBaKAThat is the link for the pattern. Got warm here today and is supposed to be warm again tomorrow. Yuck Ginny

Ginny, that's so exciting to be getting your quilt back. I still need to go to the site you posted the link for.It sure sounds like you got a lot done on the quilt you brought out from your stash.
I'm sorry to hear that your dd had a melt down at her bday celebration at your house. It's a hard time for all of you.
This pattern is driving me crazy. I keep making really stupid mistakes but also the woman that posted the pattern online said it's one that you can work on while watching tv because you don't have to pay attention. Well if I didn't pay attention mine would really be a mess. I have to really concentrate and I've ripped out and re crocheted rows mulitple times. Next one is going to be an easier pattern although I'd still like to make this one in antique white
Rene, I'm so glad to hear that your ds is being an example for others. There are sure many in need of seeing the actions of a responsible person.

Good morning!! Ruth, what a shame that this pattern is not working out for you just yet..I do think that some patterns are like that and it takes a few attempts to make sense out of them so that the pattern becomes natural to you. With your understanding of crochet and how it all works and how to make the stitches do what you want, well I am sure you will be able to figure this all out. I agree that using POL antique white for this pattern would make a stunning afghan. Perhaps if you put the pattern down for a day and try to start it again it will click in your mind... I have total confidence in your ability!!!
Been enjoying “Grant” the documentary on the History channel on Ulysses S Grant.... I am looking forward to seeing it tonight also, the last night....as tonight will have the surrender of the South at Appomattox Court House, a place that Dh and I visited last fall. We both enjoyed our brief swing through Civil War battle grounds on that trip. Unfortunately, the show is aired from 9 to 11- (and tonight I would imagine they have all 3 episodes on in sequence) so I am getting to sleep late. But its nice to have something good to watch.
Gotta inspire myself to get back to work on the baby afghan. The way it looks now, I will try to pick up my quilt from the long armer on Friday. G

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I've made a few of those Falling Charms quilts - they are pretty and really show off a fabric well. What colors are your fabrics? Hope you enjoy the rest of the show you're watching. Ruth - I mention to comment that I liked the way you store yarn - by type, not color. That is the way that makes sense to me too since you'd be looking for a weight based on a pattern. Hope you can get that pattern figured out. Phyl, Meg and Sue - Hope you are getting some crafting in. It's been a lot warmer here and humid today. Looks like we'll get rain the next few days from that storm coming up from the south. I started working on my Canning (Mason) Jar quilt again. I have 60 vegetable/fruit blocks and each corner needs a 1 1/2 square of fabric snowballed onto it. I've finished all of the vegetable blocks and still have 3 corners to finish on the fruit blocks. After that it's mostly a bunch of strip piecing so it should go more quickly. I'm thinking that I might make 2 quilts out of these blocks. A quilt with 60 of these blocks is just too big and for each fruit or vegetable I have 4 pieces of the same type. So I thought I could split them in half and have 30 blocks in each quilt with 2 each of the fruits and 2 each of the vegetables. That might be more manageable. Take care everyone!

My dh set the Grant series to record so we'll have it when we decide to watch. I went thru the Civil War years and years ago and loved the history. Also went through some of the Revolutionary war sites.
My problem with the pattern wasn't the patterns fault it was mine. But I still say it's something you have to pay attention too. My problem was writing down the rows and stitch numbers in advance and somehow missing rows or putting down number of stitches incorrectly..I don't know why that happened. I do understand the pattern better too and the reason for having to be careful. As you saw it has sections of granny square type stitches aka shells, and then linen stitch sections. My problem was in starting the shell section and it not coming out. I do think I've got it. Thank you all for your kind thoughts and support
CJ It sounds to me like making two quilts will be a better idea. As you said, easier to handle for one thing. You and Ginny are amazing in your ability to choose colors and patterns that go together so well.
Well they did finally cancel Frontier Days. This will be the first time in 124 years that they didn't have it. People are going to be complaining but they should be glad that hoardes of people from every other state won't be here to bring virus. And the people from out of state should be happy too that others are watching out for them and preventing them from being stupid and potentially putting their lives at rish

It's warmer today. I've spent some time outside with the woofers and moved some dog food upstairs. The bag is too heavy, so I had to move it to smaller bags to get it upstairs. J can move the rest when he's here Friday to move all sorts of outdoor things. I guess most of it is reversing fall storage.
Some crocheting on scarves, but I'm more interested in birds and gardening things right now.

Hi! Sue, yes we all seem to go though the same rotation don’t we- moving supplies up and down based upon the season. The woofers will be very pleased that their food is upstairs....or at least some of it. What a blessing J is- he seems to fill in a lot of gaps for you and make your life so much easier. Good thing he is so accommodating and helpful. With this warmer weather birds sure are more interesting as is gardening if you are into it. Do you have a vegetable garden or do you enjoy flowers?? Ruth, as disappointing as it is, I am glad they cancelled Frontier Days. I am seeing so much stupidity on the news- and this virus is still out there!!! At least a ton of tourists will not be bringing their infections into your state and stores.Pretty every thing is cancelled here- fairs, shows etc.....which is disappointing but will hopefully save us from the second round with this killer virus. If you and Dh enjoy American history this series on Grant is very good. I am sad that it will be over tonight. It would be nice to see a companion show on Robert E Lee- another inspiring leader from the Civil War. But because he did not become president I doubt they will do that. I know you will prevail over this crochet pattern. Got total confidence in you !!!! CJ- great idea to split up all those mason jars into two quilts....With rainy weather you will have more time to work on quilting. That is right, you only have 2 more quilts to make.....at least according to my daft evaluation of a few days ago!! At least you have a good project to work on. I am absolutely no wizard with fabric selection and use fabric lines developed by the manufacturer to go together. The fabric line the falling charms quilt is in is Henry Glass Barn Buggy thelittleredhenonline.com/t/buggy-barn-basics-by-buggy-barn. Not all the colors are there but the patterns are- add some purples, pale blues and dark blues and that covers it. I am so happy that this company has the rust colored fabric I want to use as a second border, so I will order that. Made arrangements to pick up my quilt on Friday afternoon. Excited about that for sure. Hope I can inspire myself to crochet while watching Grant this everning. Ginny
