Good morning all!!
Ruth, Sid the Sloth is one of my favorite characters from Ice Age- and with how his eyes are positioned on the side of his head, I can imagine that getting those eyes just right will be a big challenge. You’ll get it just right, I know. What yarn are you using for Sid?? Does he get a separate color for his tummy- which appears to be lighter than his back. I checked out that lemon drop yarn, I really like the color yellow- and like the color changes in that yarn. Bet it works up so prettily! And I find RH yarn pretty easy to work with.
For some reason I slept poorly last night...but have a quiet day planned today, so its ok. Think I am going to make another cup of tea and crochet awhile.

Good Morning, wow! I have not been here for a few days. time sure goes by fast.
Saturday we got a late start.went to the quilt peddler in FENNIMORE.only had a hour in the store before they closed.
I did not know what I wanted to look for so did not spend my $50 gift card.
we will go back another time, also swing over to the Pickett fence 30 miles from this shop. yes another card for the same amount. got both for Christmas.
That way we don't have to make 2 serperate trips.maybe by then I will know what I want or am looking for.
Don was good about waiting in the car. he did come in for awhile.
talked to Nita yesterday. told her I need to be with my girls for these shops.she just wants to get in the car and go somewhere.says but it is useless. they have gone into a couple of restaurants inside to eat. I am not ready for that.
we decided not to go to Daniel's ordination the 28th. Theresa and Jim will be with their kids, Millie will be with(Theresa SISTER)her family and talking to everybody up that way.
had trouble making resverations.. so called Daniel. well the church is small, 25% would not take in alot of peoples. the overflow would have to listen on the radio in the car. not taking a chance driving a hundred miles and take a chance sitting in the car.
do not want To stay in a motel so we would have to come back in a few hours. also there is a cocktail hour at 4 first sitting to eat at 5t ,second at 6. polka dance after.
how do you eat with or drink with masks or taking them off? in away I want to cry.been waiting for this for a year .thanks alot F------ virus for what you have done to our world..
the more people you are around the better chance you have to get the virus.
guess I WILL TAKE MY CHANCE ON GOING TO QUILT SHOPS. will pray Jim will not pick up the virus. his stress test is on the 7th. from there they will see about surgery for the valve. Theresa is over weight she could be a candiate for the virus.
I will make another triangle sample for my friend and hope to get these in the mail today.phyl

Hello Crafters Phyl - I sometimes use Cream of Tartar when I'm making meringue for a pie. I can imagine using it in a cookie makes them a bit lighter. I'm sorry you'll miss the ordination. Ruth - I love Snoopy too. My favorite version is the WWI Flying Ace. I have a quilt panel of him in this costume and I hope to make that into a quilt one day. Hope your crocheting is going well. Ginny - Hope you have a relaxing day and can sleep better tonight. Sue and Meg - Hope you are crafting and doing well. It's another beautiful day here in the 70s with low humidity. It's so nice to have my windows open and not to have to run the air conditioner. My lawn guy came today so it's nice to see the grass looking so pretty. After he left I went outside and picked up some trash that had been stuck under one of my trees and also sprayed some weed killer where it was needed. Yesterday when I was checking out the blogs on Slow Sunday Stitching I found a Stitch along that I think I'm going to participate in. I like these because it's just a small part to do at a time and then at the end you have a quilt top to put together. This one is already half way through, but the blocks are easy so I think I can catch up. I pulled some florals and solids from my stash and I'm going to make the quilt a bit scrappy. Here's a link to the information on this: jacquelynnesteves.com/silver-linings/ - scroll down to see Blocks 1-6 instructions which have already been posted Each instruction has some nice quotes in it so you might enjoy clicking on the instructions to see them. I finished putting the borders on the small Snoopy Christmas quilt. The greens in the tumbler blocks and the greens in the border are a bit different (one is an apple green and the other is a grass green), but I'm trying not to let that bother me Take care everyone!

CJ, that is a fantastic site. I love the colors and the blocks. I think I could do some of those easily enough and the one with the larger blocks and smaller strips in the middle (#4?) would be great for the Peanuts fabric I have. I know what you mean about being able to handle a shade a color that's not completely like the other you're using. I'm sure your's looks great though.
Speaking of colors, I ripped out the gingham blanket I started and started another using colors that I could see better. It's working out pretty well. It has a few mistakes in the beginning couple rows but I'm beginning to be able to live with a few mistakes ...ones that don't mess up the whole thing that is. I'll also be working on Sid today too. Ginny, I do hope I can get those eyes on correctly and so they don't flop around and that I can get the neck stuffed enough and still look good that his whole head doesn't flop.
Phyl, yes cream of tartar is definitley used in baking and as CJ said, it's great for makig meringue. Can't say I've ever used it myself though. I do't make meringue. I have seen many recipes that call for it though but they usually also give you an alternative.I have a can and probably shoujld throw it away because I'm sure I've had it for years.
Ginny, I hope your allergies clear up soon. Is it a specific pollen that affects you?

First off Phyl- yes I use cream of tartar- got a few recipes that actually call for it. McCormick markets it.....I use it for playdough (homemade ) and merengue, also have a cookie recipe that calls for it. Both cookie recipes that I have that call for cream of tartar are sugar cookie or shrewsbury cakes. I think its prudent to stay home- or away from those larger social gatherings . I don’t think we are supposed to eat or drink with a mask on, but we are supposed to socially distance. Another consideration is to see how the area you are in is doing. Some states seemed to be doing ok and have still not yet hit their first peak. Think if that is the case for where you want to go to then staying home is probably a good idea. Will pray for Jim and Theresa.Quilt shops are usually not crowded- wear that mask and be sure to wash your hands well with soap and water- that does a much better job than hand sanitizer .
CJ- that the greens are a bit different just adds interest to the Peanuts / Snoopy CHristmas quilt! You are hyper sensitive looking for the difference in greens- most of us would just look at it and say its pretty, which I am sure it is. Bet it feels good to have your yard cleaned up and the weeds sprayed. The quilt you posted the link for is adorable and yes- easy enough that you can catch up with little hardship. I hope you take that on- got any idea what fabrics you will use? Yes this weather has been delightful. Its supposed to warm up toward the end of the week. Here where I live we could use some rain.
Ruth, what colors are you using now for the gingham blanket? Sid’s neck is slim- yeah it seems as though if you get enough stuffing in it his head will not flop. That would be so frustrating.
Got a little bit of crochetting in and then I dropped my hook.- which I cannot find. Good thing I have other size h hooks. Ginny

Thanks girls, for the information on a COT. I have not used it in years.Didn't know if it was still on the market. I will have to buy new one. there is one in the house it will be way to old.
as for masks at the gathering we would take ours off to drink or eat.I don't think we have to worry bout my Age groups. would be the younger crowd do not know if they have ben to beaches, bars etc.
our COUNT was low but now we are up to 135 cases. 10 new cases. they have been at bars, restaurants , local beaches.the library (gotcha on this one)it is a bar the health department wants anybody who has been to these places to contact them.
I KNOW I can get the CV.i worry more about DON getting it and leaving me alone.he is 84 and very healthy so he could probably fight it off.

Phyl, back in NY near where I used to live there was a bar called The Apartment...because it wasacross the street from an apartment building so I can see there being one called The Library.I'm sure that Don doesn't want you to get the virus and leave him alone either so be careful
Ginny, I changed from two yellows and white to two shades of purple and white. I don't know what they're actually called because back when I bought them Herrschnerr's evidentally didn't put the color name on their yarn. I have a bunch of it and none has the color name. Just a number.Sorry you lost your hook but it's good to hear that you have spares. I have lots of H hooks. Well, ok, I have lots of hooks period but I have more H's than any other.
Instead of working on Sid I tried to bring a semblance of order to my craft cave. I finally gave up because it's pretty much an impossible task so I came back out and worked more on my blanket.

Its such a challenge to organize a craft area....hard to know where to start- it always seems as though there is not enough room and then there are the items that are hard to categorize. I know there are some items i just never know how/where to store. Don’t blame you, Ruth for giving up and working on the blanket. Purple and white sounds good for a color scheme and one that should be easy to see the color change. I hope its easier for you to work on- just a good thing that you have enough yarn to complete the project. Like you, I have several H hooks. My missing hook will show up- it obviously rolled and has blended in with the rug in that room. Think an H hook is my favorite size and it seems as though they multiply in my craft supplies.....ha ha ha
Phyl- think its just important to stay vigilant with regard to Covid. Not knowing who or where someone was and who they might have been exposed to in that contact. Good to hear that your local covid cases are staying low and that your DOH seems to be following up on the contact tracing. You should have no trouble finding cream of tartar....I love the subtle taste it adds to shrewsbury cakes....although i doubt its added for its taste but more for its ability to keep things fluffy.
So I did get some crocheting done yesterday before my hook flew out of my hands. I also worked on refinishing a wrought iron headboard and night stand that were in my mom’s house. They are antiques, my mom had refinished them in the 60’s. I want to paint them black and use them in DD’s room (which I need to paint) and my BOM quilt on the bed. So I guess cleaning the metal frames with steel wool actually counts as crafting.
Ended up having to take my very old cat to the vet yesterday because he was not eating. (Thought I was looking at having to put him down). the vet gave him a shot of vitamin b, gave him some fluids and a medication to encourage him to eat. He is MUCH better today. Not sure how many times I am willing to take him to the vet for that- he is very old- but such a good natured cat. Saying goodbye to him would be tough....
Will probably work on that headboard again later on after my walk. Ginny

good morning, I just watched a updated video on making 3d masks.3d fitted face mask tutorial updated easier to sew.
do not need a pattern. I will have to write down how and look at it several times. she does not use a filter. suppose to be easier to breathe.
big problem is trying to figure out how to do elastic so it doesn't fit behind the ears. masks like to put out hearing aids.
I have never been good at working with elastic.never been good at garment sewing.
need to do a little house cleaning. phyl

Hello Crafters Ruth - I like the purple/white gingham look. I love anything gingham and made a small wall hanging size quilt in a gingham pattern a few years ago. If you would like to see some of the finished blocks people are making for the Silver Linings Stitch Along, here is the Facebook page with lots of pictures: www.facebook.com/groups/SewQuiltyFriends.JacquelynneSteves/Ginny - I hope your cat will get better and you won't have to decide about going to the vet. Hope you make some more progress on the headboard. Phyl - I'm glad you found a mask instruction that you like. I didn't want to bother with any that had a pattern or a filter, so mine are pretty basic. I really wish there could be standard masks that everyone could wear and that were free for us all. You and your DH are smart to be careful of the virus. With people traveling around a lot more there are more chances of being exposed. Sue and Meg - Hope you are doing well. It's another nice cool day here, with a bit of a breeze. I have the windows open again. It's been such a pleasure to have these last few cool days before the heat coming up this weekend. I wish July and August could have a few weeks like this, but I'm probably dreaming I picked out my fabrics for the Silver Linings quilt last night. I'm using about 6-7 floral fat quarters, with some other blender fabrics (purple, rose/pink, blue and green). The floral fabrics have pinks, purples, and some yellow, blue and green in them and the common theme I was looking for were fabrics that had a yellow/cream tint rather than a red/white tint. I found some nice cream fabric with tiny pink flowers over it and I'm using it for sashing and in a few blocks. This morning instead of my normal process of pressing and starching all the pieces of fabrics, I just cut pieces from each fat quarter that were a bit larger than what I needed for the block pieces. Then I pressed and starched those and that was a lot faster. Then I cut all the pieces for blocks 1-6 and sewed them all together. It probably only took a few hours since the blocks are small and finish at 6 1/2 inches. They were easy to put together but do require some attention since the pieces are small. I'm just not that accurate of a cutter and sewer, so a few pieces were a bit off from the size, but I'm not bothered by that. The instructions were easy to follow. I'm not used to pressing seams open but I did it for blocks she had instructions for and it does make the block lay a bit flatter. I'm not sure if I'll do the embroidery blocks that come special with this - you have to sign up for this and then she emails you free embroidery blocks. Looks like there might be about 6 of them. I'd like to but I have to see. At least I'm caught up and the next block comes out next Monday. Ruth - I think the blocks you mentioned would work well and be easy to put together. Ginny - You might like to sign up for the free embroidery patterns, if you're interested. Take care and have a great day!

CJ I went to that facebook page and the quilt blocks are fantastic! I especially loved the ones that had pumpkins. I really love those colors she put together. I really wish I had another lifetime to be able to do both crochet and quilting. Phyl, I'm glad you found a mask pattern that is pleasing to you and that Don also likes. Ginny, yes I'm still trying to find a plan that will work for my yarns. One of course is to use it up but that takes awhile. I hope you'll be able to work on your baby blanket. YOu're such a busy person. I'm amazed at, even with mistakes, how great this gingham looks. I can see doing more of these which use a bit of yarn especially with the stitch I'm using which is the griddle stitch. The person I got the pattern from has a lot of ginghams on her site, some with only sc, some with double and a few with varieties of this stitch which is a combo of sc and dc. I like it much better than the plan stitches used exclusively. It's a cooler day here today but windy. It's comfortable.

Good morning, Ruth, using up yarn does take awhile...and an abundance of good projects to work on. SOOO glad you are happy with how the gingham blanket is turning out. What stitch is the griddle stitch? (Never heard of that) Will have to check out some gingham afghans- honestly have never made one....but this one sounds really lovely. And that you are loving it will make it go much more quickly. Enjoy your cooler weather- hope it lasts.
CJ- gee that is a great FB site and its so inspiring to see what others are doing. Smaller blocks are more challenging...my friend is making mini quilts and finding that out the hard way. I know its a mixed opinion to prewash or not....I like working on the fabric with the factory sizing in it and wash it all later on. I know there are different schools of thought. One thing I learned from the BOM I did is how important ironing really is. But even with that there are many schools of thought how to do that and when. Some quilts its super important to keep up with ironing, from what you seem to be working on I would think you can iron as you are-and do not have to be that vigilant until a later time. Finger pressing and good pinning can help also. Enjoy the cooler weather while it lasts....yes weather like this for the entire summer would be wonderful!!
Phyl- did you get your housecleaning done? There are so many different mask designs. I have seen one (think its on CDC’s web site) that is from T shirts, its no sew...but it involves ties and not elastic. Would using ties work for you?
Off to run some errands. As far as my dear cat goes, well he was great yesterday- a bit less so this am. I have medications to give him tomorrow, but get the feeling that I am fighting a losing battle. He is such a wonderful cat....its gonna break my heart to put him down if that is what I have to do.
Off for some errands. BBL Oh- got some rows crocheted yesterday and also got all the rows sewn for the falling charms quilt- and they are safely put away so the grandkids cannot mess it up on me.
take care all Ginny
