Thanks for the weekend start, Chele. What did the farmers grow for you this week? The more I hear about that situation in Portland, the angrier I get, so I can imagine how your DB feels living there. Who thought this was a good idea, especially since they didn't consult with the governor or mayor ahead of time? That's a rhetorical question. Definitely the reaction of the "law and order president" who knows nothing about law or order. Sarah Cooper is hysterical. Better to laugh than to cry in our current situation. Have you seen any of the ads from The Lincoln Project? They have turned excerpts of Mary Trump's book into The Story Hour.
Becky, getting an xray is probably a good idea because it could be a stress fracture. Could also be arthritis, which would explain how it's happened from time to time. Knoxville is going back to paper ballots this year, so maybe you aren't so old school after all. You mark your paper ballot and then feed it into a scanner, so a little bit of technology has been added.
I agree on the convention being totally unnecessary, especially since they already know who will be nominated. But, he seems to need the energy of the adoring crowds. As one TV commentator said, most candidates hold rallies to become president. Trump became president so he can hold rallies. And there are many better uses for the millions of wasted dollars. I hope you have a relatively comfortable day so Micki can get in some walks.
Kathy, I thought you said something about a tropical system but I didn't see anything on the weather map this morning. Are you still getting showers? Any more unique visitors to the pond? We have to water twice a day right now and it's becoming a major pain, but we don't want the 🍅🍆🥒🥬 to die. There has been rain around us for the past couple of days but not a drop here. I found the other emojis options but I hope they will add more. I remember the days of "hanging chads". We had the electronic screens but are both voting by mail this time.
Happy weekend, Liz! I hope you get your errands finished and get a little R&R. Any plans for the grill?
Denise, do you have the weekend off? Got plans to go somewhere?
Dale went to the state park and picked up from Salsarita's. We don't have one close by, so we take advantage when we can. Good food, no cooking, and there are always plenty of leftovers. In addition to my usual Saturday gardening shows, I spent some time rearranging in the pantry. After cleaning out the storage bags yesterday, I could see ways to rearrange a few of the other shelves to make more room for our continuing stock-up. We are expecting highs in the upper 90s and you know what that will do to the heat index. So it's an inside day for the most part. Sinuses haven't let up yet but are improving some. I'll probably just get back to normal and it will be ragweed season.

moonriver, Denise, yes it Is hot here. The humidity is not bad, though. I am nappy we have a market to go through. I was afraid they would keep them all closed. Karen, I know how much you like Salsaritas. I hope Dale enjoyed his trio to the park. How is Sweet Potato doing? We got the usual carrots, lettuce, green onions, tomatoes, zucchini and bonus, fresh blueberries and chard. Sorry about the sinuses. I woke up with congestion today.but it has gotten better even with no antihistamines. I have seen some of The Lincoln Project ads but not the story hour ones. My hair stylist called last night and she is opening up the salon fir a customer tomorrow so she is going to cut my hair at 10am. Yay! Enjoy your Saturday, All.

Chele, sounds like you need a bigger bird bath.🦅 DM stopped driving a couple of years ago, so she really hasn't gotten out with the exception of a couple of doctor appointments. Her backyard is fenced in by the neighbors' fences, so it's nice, but not really a wide open space. I know having the pond view helps me not feel so closed in. Thanks for the Sarah Cooper video. I hadn't seen that one. Sounds like a good haul from the farmer's market. Becky, sorry the foot is still hurting, but glad you got some rain. We're starting to get some showers from a tropical wave, so another wet day here. Linda, yeah, Florida outside in August, that's a great idea for a convention! What could possibly go wrong? 😜 I don't watch the conventions either, especially when we know who the nominees are.
Karen, they said we're getting showers from a tropical wave, but I don't think it's a real intense one. 🌦 We got a pretty good shower around 2, but now the sun is coming out again.

Becky, I hope you can get relief on that foot.
Could not get to sleep again..dozy around 1;30 when I found a big wet spot other side of bed--Micki wet it--a lot and has been drinking a lot of water this last 6 weeks--thought it was heat. Blanket, light quilt and sheets got changed (laundry now) and then I looked it up online---uh oh. His bed had ben wet before and dried. No sleep until 5:30 and up at 9:30 for vet appointment
He is diabetic--blood sugar 500! Started insulin twice a day and since we cannot come into facility for COVID, I have written instructions and a u-tube video for how to give insulin shots to dog. Blood work went out and hoping nothing else. He just turned nine. My bed now has a big disposable incontinence pad on it on his side and another is wrapped around the cushion in his bed--cushion on clothes line. I had to make a chart to track all his food and water intake and insulin times. I updated and printed the sheets for ER in case something goes wrong and re react to insulin or has seizure. Slowly changing him to Royal canid dry and wet diabetic balance food--higher fiber helps. cut up carrots for treats and saving to lean chicken treats for when he gets meds or something.treats
2020 is the gift that keeps on giving.

Thanks for the start Chele. Enjoy the farmers market.
Karen I decided not to go in for an x-ray this morning because I really didn't feel up to waiting around an hour in an urgent care.It feels some better today but not well enough to walk outside.I was reading online it could be arthritis.I think I will call around Monday to see if I can find a podiatrist. The older population of Bastrop County wouldn't understand scanners.
Chele Yea on tomorrow's haircut.Enjoy.
Kathy We got like a 2 minute shower last evening but it was nice while it lasted. We hardly get rain this time of year.
Thanks Linda. Only place we needed to go today was the vet so no grocery shopping.I have ridden the exercise bike twice and done some house walking so the rest has helped it a little.Oh no on Micki being diabetic. We had a cat once that was diabetic.I hope Micki feels better soon.I can't imagine having to give a dog insulin.I am so sorry to hear that. You did not need that I know. Did the vet say how he got diabetes? We still can't go into our vet office either because of Covid.

Becky, take care of that foot.
Linda, so sorry about Micki. That is a worry. I hope it is not too hard to give him his injections. My boss had a diabetic cat and the cat did really well with his injections.
Kathy, your DM must be getting pretty antsy. My GF who has not been well for the past couple of years is also tired of staying home. She didn’t go out a lot but she has lots of family she is used to visiting with.

Linda, sorry about Micki's diagnosis. For a while, I was giving my spaniel allergy shots. I think it hurt her more than it hurt me. You'll get the hang of it pretty quickly. Do you also have to test his BS? Sorry about the bed changing. When Phoebe's cancer got bad toward the end, I was having to change bloody sheets every morning. I hope things will get back to normal and he won't have additional accidents. That sounds like a really high BSL for a small dog. Yes, 2020 just keeps on giving. It can stop any time.
Congrats on the Sunday haircut, Chele. Enjoy!! Nice haul at the farmers market. Sweet Potato is doing fine. She has gotten used to coming out in the garage when we are out there, such as when we are cleaning the groceries after a trip to the store. She is still very tentative and pretty much comes out then runs back in the house. As Dale said, we aren't going to have to worry about this dog running off. Salsarita's was good, but they can't seem to get the order 100% right. Last time Dale got a burrito instead of a bowl and today the Pueblo corn salsa was missing from the nachos and I didn't get any pickles jalapenos in my shrimp bowl. But the food is good.
Kathy, I wish we had part of the yard fenced here. There's just no way to do it with the terrain we have. Does DM have lots of trees so she has some wildlife to watch? Please send us a few of your showers. I'll bet after your 2 pm shower, it got pretty humid.
I wouldn't want to sit in an urgent care waiting for an xray either, Becky. A podiatrist could also help with the PF, so that's a good plan. Have you tried both ice and heat on the top of the foot to see if one does better than the other?
This afternoon, I saw one of those "you can't make this stuff up" ones on the lake. Somebody dropped 2 kids off in the middle of the lake (they were not the only boat on the lake) so the kids could play in the water while the boat driver did circles around the kids to keep them from getting hit by the other boats in the same part of the lake. Why they didn't just pick a cove with no boat traffic is a mystery. I thought at one point a boat was going to hit one of the kids. Can't fix stupid.

Becky, I sure would not want urgent care time either! A friend swears by alternating heat and ice for her back arthritis. Podiatrist sounds like good plan.
Karen that science on the lake is buzzard.
I have farmers market envy...nothing nearby here, except one indoor thing 20 minutes away on weekends.
mini schnauzers are prone to overeating, over weight and diabetes but never had it with other five...this one has us home to beg whenever we eat or have snacks and is partial to ice cream. Our bad,
Long day...two hours drop dog at vet for tests and senior exam , back to vet...wait until car while they stabilize an emergency cat, get results and long conversation with vet, talk to staff to pay , the questions about food, to vetWho messages a YouTube video on how to do insulin, , back to gathering insulin, syringes, needle point remover, Dog food, instructions ...delivered to car with $600 bill Most of which I hope will be covered by major medical insurance as tests related to illness. Meds not covered after this as maintenance.
We need to go back Friday to retest sugar and see if it is right insulin and dose. And next week and next . Meanwhile hoping blood work does not find any other problems to complicate things
He has not been gulping down water this afternoon and tonight...good sign.
spent Rest of the day First in computer Making a med and food and water chart for him, a new sheet of facts about history allergies etc to grab if he has to go to ER, washing my blankets,Sheets Quilt, the weekly towels, and his bed cushion which dried well in sun in clothesline. I put a disposable protection pad across it and covered it with an old pillow case. Going to be sure dog gets out a couple times tonight!
I think H...will have icicles before our guv shuts anything more.
i need sleep!

Oh, Linda, what a day you had!! I know you have to be exhausted today but I hope you and Micki had a less eventful (and drier) night. I wish our fur children had a way of making sure we know when something is off. We had a similar situation with my spaniel, Kira. I had to be away for a while because DM was quite ill and we thought she was reacting to our stress (she was very empathic) when she was really very ill herself and only lived a few months after that episode. I hope you didn't have to go to the ER. Are you testing his blood sugar at home or will it "just" be weekly at the vet? Yes, it sounds like a diet overhaul is going to be necessary. Will you and Bob take a lot of your snacks--especially ice cream--out of your diets so you won't have to deny Micki? Bassets are also prone to overeating and Arya is quite regemented and Phoebe was as well. Bassets are also prone to bloat, so my girl just gets a few spoonfuls of food at a time and we "rest" in between. So far so good. I hope you enjoyed your clean bed and hope you actually got some sleep and weren't subconsciously checking on your boy so frequently that you never got to a deep sleep. The $600 bill was not welcome I know, but that's about par for an urgent visit like the one yesterday. Is your indoor farmers market year round? I have found a lot of the indoor ones don't have local produce. Becky, how's the foot today? Linda's rotation of ice and heat might be worth a shot. Our heat index is already at 96 and is expected to be into the triple digits. Have you heard anything lately about how your niece is doing? Have you gotten any more showers? I'll bet Scooter is happily an indoor dog today. Is she enjoying her fan? What's on Chef Iggy's menu for the week, Chele, given all the great veggies you got yesterday? Our CSA posted their roasted 🍅 sauce recipe on their FB page. They quarter and then slow roast their tomatoes with olive oil, salt, and pepper (no mention of garlic, which surprised me) at 300-325 for about 4 hours and then cool and use an immersion blender. They freeze it in small batches and have it all winter. How's the hair cut? I know it had to feel good. I go on Wednesday and am not looking forward to all those little bits of hair getting under my mask. Kathy, I heard parts of Miami are under a curfew now. I hope that will help. There was a good article in the NY Times about how the country lost control and hasn't been able to get it back. I wonder when we finally get out of this what we can change so it won't happen again and how our country will be permanently altered by the experience. Are you back to just getting the normal short daily showers? We have still gotten no rain but again last night we could hear the thunder, so it was close. How was work last night, Denise? Hope things go well tonight. Liz, are you having a restful weekend? I've had a busy morning. I need to do the pilaf and veggies for Arya's dinners so I did the pilaf today and put it in the fridge and will do the veggies tomorrow and then put everything together. That should save me a little time. Then I shredded a massive CSA zucchini and made 8 loaves of zucchini bread. Most of it will go into the freezer for winter. I froze the remaining shredded zucchini and will put it in with Arya's veggies tomorrow. I would have used more by making more loaves but I ran out of flour, didn't have enough sugar, and may not have had enough vegetable oil for one more batch. I am trying to decide whether to enter a loaf in the fair this year and am leaning toward no on that. Who knows what the fair will even be this year. I also have a load of workout clothes in the dryer. Hope everyone is enjoying their Sunday!

Yes, I am trying not to eat in front of him because he can't have it.We have been stress snacking . He has been spoiled and gained weight, probably why he is diabetic now.
Thanks for the encouragement. He stopped constantly gulping water...and we had a dry night. He is and has been very clingy lately...must feel not right
I woke at 4:30 and let him out and gave him breakfast, then tried to stay awake until his shot. Went back to sleep around six and conked out until almost 11.
I take it the heat dome has moved East. We are at 110 today with it moving down to possible rain Thursday...been 100 plus days dry.
That is a lot of zucchini shredding!
