People over 60 have a different metabolism than those who are younger, and weight loss gets harder as one ages. This thread is for us.
Join us! Share your ideas, your successes, your frustrations. Offer support. Get advice from folks who are on a similar journey.
Our challenge is to stay on plan, exercise and keep trying to lose weight while improving our overall health -- and maintaining a positive attitude!
Think about where you were and how you felt when you made the initial decision to join The Senior WW Challenge. Close your eyes and remember when you said to yourself āEnough is enough and Iām getting in shape!ā On a scale of 1 to 10, how serious are you? You really need to be an eight or higher! If not, you should probably reevaluate your thoughts and feelings about regaining great health in your life.

Just going to bed and thought I'd start us off. A friend sent me the quote that follows. It applies to so many of us on this board. LOVE it.
There is no happiness like that of being loved by your fellow creatures, and feeling that your presence is an addition to their comfort. ~ Charlotte Brontƫ

Fred wasnāt selected for a jury and said he never left the jury room and at one point was the only left there. He thinks itās because he had put down he was hard of hearing but sat for four hours very bored as no reading material and the tv was on a very boring channel about selling real estate. At the end they said he was done and did not have to return. The way they work it now is on Monday they select juries for any trials coming up and then Tuesday have the trial and Wednesday the jury decides a verdict and itās over. So if you arenāt selected on Monday then youāre done. A couple of judges came in to talk to them and said itās being discussed to switch to using zoom for jury selections and then having the people selected come to the courthouse the following day. I guess they have even discussed having the trials on zoom and only have the jury show up for deliberation but that idea was shot down immediately. As he sat there waiting he saw the people not selected returning and he found it interesting that it was all men returning, not one woman.
He will be golfing this morning and Iāll get some laundry done.

Good morning all and Happy First Day of Fall!
Gail, thanks for the quote. Love the Bronte sisters.
This afternoon I have a hair appt but it will be my last one with Connie, my regular hairdresser. I've gone to her for the past 7 years but she's moving to Florida next week. Just a bit too far to commute for a haircut! She has a name of another hairdresser she'll give me today. She works in a different shop but I'll give her a call and set up my next appt.
The urologist called yesterday to set up Jerry's MRI. It will be next Monday at 7am. He can't have anything to eat or drink before he goes so it works out well that it's so early. We both hope they can find the reason behind all of the UTI's. It's been very frustrating for him.

Good morning. Wonderful first day of fall. It will be in high 70s and 80s by the weekend. DD Linda has a procedure today in Nashville. She will be several hours and no one is allowed in the surgery center. She took a Uber there and I will go to pick her up. I'll buy coffee or iced tea and read a book in the car while I wait
Here is my recipe for Roasted Autumn Vegetable Soup.
1 Large onion cut into large chunks 4 large carrots peeled and cut in 1 1/2 inch pieces 6 medium parsnips peeled and cut in 1 1/2 inch pieces - I sometimes use turnips 4 cups winter squash - I sometimes use a sweet potato as part of the 4 cups spray all vegetables with oil or cooking spray and roast at 400 degrees until soft - I add about 1T of seasoning I use Italian, or rosemary and thyme. Anything you like is ok. I often add garlic to the roast.
put into large pot: vegetables 1/2 cup fat free evaporated milk - I sometimes use almond milk salt and pepper to taste Cook 15 minutes (I usually cook about 30) and blend...I only partially blend as I like some chunks. I use two cups as a meal.
Hope you all enjoy fall.

Good morning! As usual a busy morning with getting kids to school and Mass for hubby and me.
That dang engine light is winking at me again but I think I've got it figured out. I think it's something to do with the gas cap. When we fill the tank, no light. Then we get down to 1/2 tank and the light goes on for about 30 miles (about 1 gallon of gas) then it goes off. Now I did ask Regal last week if the checked the gas cap and they assured me they did. Well, guess what I'm back at Regal tomorrow morning. And if they think I was upset last time just wait. My Polish blood is mixing with my Indian blood and my kids always said when that happened WATCH OUT!
Did a bit of weed pulling this morning basically to work off my anger about the car.
Oh yes, then yesterday after getting the kids home from school got a call (automated message) that John was not in his 7th period class. This is his last class of the day and it's his favorite class - technology. If he were going to skip out a class it would not be that one. Besides I pick him up everyday and he came from that classroom. Ok so I planned on stopping in the office this morning and getting it straightened out. John is very proud of his record of having perfect attendance ever since Kindergarten. Guess what! The office does not open until 9:00 (9-4) so now I have to either call the school or stop in this afternoon when I'm doing school pickup.
Oh dear got awfully wordy again today.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!

Great fall morning here and Happy Fall everyone. Another sign of fall is the Sun moving farther south. In summer it is a little more to the north. Can always tell by how the sunlight hits our front door. Have my walk in this morning in one shot. Hubby is off gambling this morning but we actually had a good day yesterday and even got him to help me with a couple things. Have had my WW Zoom meeting this morning and actually lost .08# since last week. Got car all cleaned out yesterday but took all day as I just not feel the best yesterday. Not sure how I can keep Steven from driving it until I take the Teens on our day trip. He has been smoking in the car (which I detest) but really donāt want to subject the kids to that.
Sharon, you said I am a busy lady, guess that is how I grew up and mom was a busy lady and never stopped until the day she died. I enjoy being busy doing things More outside than inside. Setting idol I tend to eat more. Will be going to grocery in a bit and TOPS this evening. Need to stay busy on Tuesdays as this is my Fasting till evening day.
Made my Cabbage soup Sunday and going to try the Pumpkin Patch mug cake this evening that Carolyn posted Saturday. Think hubby will even eat that for a treat.
Everyone enjoy this gorgeous day.

Good afternoon! I had a longer walk this morning as there was less humidity and was in the 70ās. I started some soup for lunch but we decided to go to Walgreens for our flu shot. I turned off the soup and it was a good thing because we were gone over an hour. Lunch will be late.
Gail I love love that quote and also the Bronte sisters.
Vicki Iāll say some prayers that Jerry soon finds a good solution for his pesky problem.
Karen E I think Iāll be a lot busier if and when we ever move back to the midwest. There will be house to work on and a garden to plan. Life here is relaxing, which we thought weād like. And yes my mom too was a hard worker.

Thank you for that delicious-looking recipe, Geri. My mouth is watering!
Sandy, I always brought a good book with me to jury duty. So boring otherwise! I never got selected for a trial, but LOTS of waiting around.
I sent that Bronte quote to DD and DGD, also animal lovers, and the ones who convinced me to get a cat and helped me pick Sunny out. DGD sent this lovely one back: Animals are a small part of your life but to them itās their whole life.
Post photos of your new glasses if you get them, Ruth.
Vicki, I know this has been frustrating for Jerry. Here is to finding a solution!
What an annoying start to your day, Pat!!! And you are not too wordy. This is a great place to vent.
Karen E, I always notice that about the sun too. As I get older, I am much more aware of those changes on almost a daily basis. When I was younger, it would take at least a month for me to realize how much earlier the sun was setting. Congrats on the weight loss.
Sounds like everyone is having good weather so far. Me too. Beautiful fall day.
Time to get some things done. BBL.

Eye doctor appointment went well. I got some cute Michael Kors glasses that go nicely with my coloring. They should be ready in about a week. Mike and I both had dialated eyes but we still ran a few errands after our appointment. We went to First Watch for brunch (I am addicted to their pumpkin pancakes, so I go often when they are in season). We also stopped at his DS's to pick up some tools, got gas, as well as went to Publix, Starbucks and the library. We both have cataracts that are still about 2 years away from surgery.
I will catch up with reading posts once my eyes are back to normal.

Gail, I love your quote and also your DGD's. We miss our dogs so much. I still look for a senior dog to rescue. Our weather is still too hot for this time of year. I just looked at the weather and it said 77, but then saw that was set to San Diego. Our weather says 91 and it is only 11 here.
Now I want to go to First Watch Ruth. Those pancakes sound good. There is a First Watch by my daughter's house. Thinking of calling her to meet for breakfast soon.
This time last year we were on our Alaska cruise. I am so glad we did that because that is probably the last cruise we will take. We don't even want to fly in a plane again.

11, Carolyn? Wait, where are you living? Love the avatar! Cute costumes and the little one's smile is infectious. Who is in the photo? I envy you for having gone on an Alaskan cruise, as well as the other posters who have been there. I was supposed to go this past summer but of course that was canceled. I don't think I will go on a cruise again and don't know if I will ever fly again either.
DGS is a senior and applying to college. His baseball game has been faltering and with COVID he has not been seen by many coaches. He wrote a letter to one of his teachers who will be writing a recommendation letter. Here is part of it. I am so proud of him. I did not learn those lessons until I was much older.
As you know, I play baseball. I have played since I was 6 years old. I have been fortunate enough to play on many teams and to have met some amazing coaches/players. Above all things baseball has taught me, there are really two that have changed my life: dedication/work ethic and failure. For the past seven years my summers have consisted of a five-hour morning practice followed up by some extra work. This game has taught me that if you want something, you need to work for it; things do not just come to you. But most of all, I have learned how to deal with failure. I have learned the value of failing and responding correctly to those failures. Failure makes me a better person. I always look for challenging situations, because in the end I learn from them.
And I am off again. Have a great Tuesday, my friends.

Gail, such a well-written letter by your DGS. Sports and being on a team teaches kids so much about life. Our kids, and now the grandkids, always participated on a sports team.
The avatar is three of our grandkids from Halloween last year. Not sure what it will be like this year. It's sad for kids missing out on so many things.
We live in AZ and the heat has been record breaking this year, but at least not near the wildfires in other places, so shouldn't complain I guess.
