Just a quick check in.....
CJ- I see what you mean about the dark green when the block is by itself, but when with the other block that really goes away. The fall colors are pretty- a few well placed blocks with the darker green would really be nice and give a dramatic look. Its also one of those blocks that you have to walk away from- don’t look at it too up close....its prettier when in the larger scheme of a quilt with other blocks. Just my opinion however.
Got lovely fall weather here....gonna paint a door, then go outside to rake a bit and put up my new squirrel baffle. I am tired of those jokers eating all my bird seed, they can eat what falls on the ground. G

I've been walking outside in the yard with my camera for the past few days, taking lots of photos. One of the technological advances that o enjoy is being able to take many photos without the cost of developing and having prints made! Last night as the sun was going down, the flash brought a lovely highlight to some of the berries and crabapples.
I have just a few more days to capture some of the eye candy that fall brings. Then the deciduous trees will start to lose their leaves in earnest, and there will be many more hours of darkness. That will be a key time for a change of activities and focus. One of the things I've really enjoyed about living in the far north of this country is that there is a change brought on by the changing seasons. Play outside and garden for six months, play inside and do crafty things for six months.
Before winter sets in and walking is more treacherous, I'd like to stock up on meat, fish, and poultry in the freezer. I want the chest freezer that's up at the ranch to be moved to the garage, but hb has some kind of fixation about leaving it where it is. It's empty! Not worth pursuing. I have a small upright freezer and an extra frig in the garage, so that will have to be enough.
I like the ways the colors in your two blocks work together CJ.

WEll we got it installed and I hope I'm not speaking too soon but so far it seems to be ok. Forgot to mention yesterday and we also painted the floor of that closet while there was no water heater in it.
I did get my cowl done so now I have to organize myself and see what all I need to do to have everything together that I need to send. And to see what I can work on next.
It's kind of a hot day here.

Sue, good to see you here....and so glad you were able to enjoy the fall colors and get some pictures. Think all of us here go back to old school methods of photography when you had to pay for film and getting it developed. The digital world is so much more convenient. Would you consider having some of your lovely pictures framed??(counts a crafting too!!!). Think its a great idea to stock up your freezer. Between the upcoming winter and who knows what with Covid- any preparation ahead that can be done is a good thing. And I totally agree with you- and have the same experience here in NY state- I love having the winter for crafting- a welcome relief from outdoors all the time.

Ruth, that is an advantage to having an empty boiler room- you could paint the floor so its nice and neat. So happy for you and Dh that the hot water heater is in!! I am sure this one will work fine....as I bet you are also. Congrats on getting the cowl done also. Wonder what you will work on next? When are cooler temps headed your way?

hi girls, spent some time in my playpen today.got the flying geese strips ready to sew onto the squares. well for now one square will be sewed. this one had to be taken a part.
get this done then I will have 2 done.5-6 more to go.it is not so much making them as it is to have the block come out square enough to square up the block.
instead of a side or end being lopsided.
SUE nice you got outside to take pictures. fall is one of my favorite seasons.
c j I love the blocks. the pumpkins would be my f Ruth yippee the heater is in.
Ginny you could try and move this thread to the other ww threads.on the sewing and crafting thread we get a person for a few days then they stop. that thead is just Becki and me. start this thread and see how it goes. Becki would probably come here if we were on the other proboards.
that use to be a good thread till ww stopped us.phyl

Thank you Phyl and yes the water heater is still working fine which I really thought it would be. They can't have that many defective ones that we would somehow end up with another defective one. It's got to be quite rare that there is one that doesn't function as it should
Becki does seem pretty busy with all her game threads and all so I don't know if she would come into this one or not. It's not hard to get in right here. All you have to do is bookmark the site, so I'd have to say that she might feel that she already has enough message boarding already but she's the only one that really knows that.
I was out today to get my driver's license renewed. There weren't very many people there at all. Maybe five total. I was finished fast so stopped at the Dollar Tree on the other side of town because they usually have things that aren't in the store over here. Well today they didn't so I bought very little. Mostly I bought wrapping paper and a couple things for the grandaughter who will be 14 next month. It's so hard to buy for teenagers.
Last night I didn't feel like working on doing finish work like sewing on pockets, etc so I started the blanket for my grandson that lives here. It will be for Christmas. I'm making all the girls the pockets shawls and didn't know what to make for the grandson and sil so I finally decided on lapghans. I think I talked about that before...considering lap blankets.I've worked on it a little since I got home too and am making good progress.
Have a good evening everyone and happy crafting

Good evening!
This is just gonna be a short post as I realized I haven’t been here all day.
Phyl Glad you got to work on some flying geese! Thanks for the advice on moving this thread I’ll see what the general consensus is and what everybody else wants to do..mglad you got to work on some flying geese! Thanks for the advice on moving this thread I’ll see what the general consensus is and what everybody else wants to do..
Ruth, glad that hot water tank seems to be working so well! And congratulations on getting in and out of motor vehicle with your sanity And your license renewed
Today just got away from me. I worked this morning and then had some things to take care of business wise, I had a phone call from my attorney to rework my will, and then got caught up taking a class that I was going to spread out over a few days but finished it this evening online.
I did lay out the panel quilt, and once again hit a snag with the instructions being less than good. I’ll get that all straightened out tomorrow. Have a good night!

Phyl, yes we do worry when we can't get ahold of our friends. Awhile back I was very worried about my nursing school roomate because I wasn't able to get ahold of her but she finally got my messages and called me back but that wasn't until a couple weeks later. She and her husband have serious medical issues
Ginny, some days are like that. They end up being filled with so many little things that it's not until the end of the day that we find that the entire day is almost over. I'm sorry to hear that you hit a snag in your quiltmaking.

Yesterday I took hb up to the ranch to turn on the heaters to keep the pipes from freezing. I'm going to have to find out about draining the water system for the winter. Things are okay for this year, but he couldn't turn on the heaters or fix the breakers. We used to plow out the road and spent a lot of time there in the winter, but don't go there in the winter anymore.
There have been pieces of cognitive knowledge disappearing more rapidly since his hypoglycemic episode of two weeks ago. I need to find out more about how to use power of attorney. I have it, and I think it's time since he was having trouble proving that he is himself with info like address and phone number.
The fire damage up the canyon is very bad. As I mentioned before they were able to stop the fire three miles south of the ski area and four miles from the cabin. The fire is still smoldering in an area that is like a mini canyon. A ridge keeps it from being visible. There are houses surrounded by burned areas that were saved, but the smoke damage is so bad that some of the houses aren't habitable. Thirty houses were burned. 8,200 acres. A minimal amount compared to what has been happening in California but still devastating.

Hello Crafter Sue - I'm glad you were able to get outside and take some pictures of the leaves. Hope you can get things setup at the cabin so it will be ready for winter. The fires sure have been terrible out west. I also hope you can get the POA going with your DH. It's tough to make decisions for others, but I'm glad you were able to set it up before it was too late to do it. Ginny - Hope you were able to figure out the instructions for that panel quilt. It was nice you finished the class early too. Hope you're having some of this beautiful fall weather like I am. Ruth - I'm glad you were able to get the water heater installed and that it's working well, I hope that continues. Sounds like your license renewal was easy, that's always nice. And you were able to do a bit of shopping while you were out. Phyl - I'm glad to hear you were feeling well enough to get back in your playpen and work on some sewing/quilting. Hope you can finish off those flying geese and get them to square up. I'm sure it was a relief to hear that your friend was alright. We're still having some pretty fall weather here, but supposed to get rain on Sunday and Monday from the hurricane. Hopefully it won't be too much and will pass by quickly. I figured out the layout for one of my bowtie quilt tops, so I'm hoping to get those blocks pieced together soon. Take care everyone and have a great weekend!

Good evening all-
Phyl, think the procedure you are speaking about is balloon angioplasty- and sometimes they install a stent in the artery to help keep the artery open. (And now Ruth is howling over my lack of medical knowledge). Glad to hear that your friend Gloria is doing well and that you enjoyed a good and upbeat conversation.
Ruth, well today ended up being busier than I thought. Were you able to get all done that you wanted to for the box to be mailed? How is that new hot water tank running?
Sue, so sorry to hear that Dh’s cognitive knowledge is disappearing rapidly. My advice....(I had POA for my mom). Call the bank or financial institution how they want checks written. My handwriting looks an awful lot like my mom’s did- so initially I just started signing as her.(and no one cared). After speaking with the bank, they wanted me to sign my name to her checks, with “POA” printed after my signature. No one really seemed to care that I was handling her affairs-but I do advise to take well organized notes for each entity of who you spoke to and when and keep those notes in a folder with the bills. My mom was initially furious with me (when she realized 4 months later that she had not paid a bill- which of course I had been doing for her). She was livid- until I produced a nice stack of well marked organized folders (my mom was a disorganized person) and sweetly smiled at her....and asked her if she wanted this stack of folders, complete with proper documentation, and to resume paying those bills. After she asked about 3 or 4 different bills, for which I was able to produce an up to date folder- she finally backed down and slowly started to realize that perhaps I was better able to handle matters at that time. So sorry about all the fire damage in the canyon....glad your ranch is ok- and I hope you can find someone to drain the pipes to keep it safe.
CJ- hurray for lovely fall weather!!! You don’t need rain in your area....hard to hear that more rain is headed your way this weekend. Do you have a design wall that you use to help with quilt layout? I am figuring that you will get those blocks pieced together when the rainy days are here - which machine will you be using to piece it together, your newer machine or older one?
Another day gone....and busy. I worked this am- then went to DD’s to help her with some shopping- no small feat with 4 little ones. Then we went for a lovely walk on a new nature trail....the kids were good. Got another errand done, the car inspected and came home. So I did get a lot of walking in today. Now am going to see if I can find good directions on the internet on how to assemble this panel quilt. The directions with the quilt are not clear.
Have a good evening all Ginny

CJ, I somehow missed the fall colors blocks and now that I've seen them I do like them a lot. Especially with the two blocks together they look great. Sorry you're going to get rain from that hurricane. I hope it's not too much.
Sue, I'm sorry to hear that your dh is becoming more and more cognitivly impaired. That has to be very sad and stressful for you and very frightening for him.
Phyl, Ginny is right about the procedure your friend had. Although she claims otherwise she has a lot of medical knowledge. I'm glad you got the flying geese done. I had so much fun making them in the one series of quilt classes I attended
We still have fire here in the southwestern part of our state and into Co. It grew to 171,000 acres and is back up to being 18% contained.
I'm working on the which way filet blanket so will get back to it. See you all later

hi girls today we went to the funeral home and started making arrangements for our funerals.
I will be cremated. Don will have the whole enchilada.either way it's $$$$. very interesting the stuff you not only learn but how they do things and why.
since I have been home my shoulders have been brothering me.I will have to call for a chiro appointment.
I did not finish the blocks still working on the second one.just got the units ready for the squares.
Theresa called she is a wreck.chiro today.found out that fall did something to her ribs. her shoulders are hurting. She is wishing she would have listened when I told her take it easy for a couple of days. no she went and did yard work and other stuff all these days.
there is a difference between moving with a injury and moving like nothing happened.think she is having a lot harder time knowing she can't do what she use to then most of us who have accepted it. PHYL
