Good morning all- Nice to be looking at a 3 day weekend and know that I can pretty much do what I want for 3 days.
Phyl- so sorry to hear that you are having discomfort in your shoulders....I don’t ever remember hearing you mentioning that before. Do you think you did something to cause irritation? Sometimes sitting at a computer or sewing machine can be a problem if the chair/keyboard/table height are not in the right proportion to each other. Hope you do not have to wait too long for that chiropractor appointment. Very wise move for you and Don to make arrangements for your funerals- it does save your family from having to make difficult decisions during a sad and stressful time.
Ruth, who is this which way fillet afghan for?? Gee, its been awhile since I remember hearing about you making afghans- its been hats and cowls for a long time. I hope they can get the fires contained.. 18% containment does not sound too promising...hope rain is on the way to help. My friend recently shopped from home at Walmart- picking up the order from the store. She was very very happy with the experience and indicates that she would absolutely do that again- also that they did charge a shopping fee to her. Is that your experience??
Gonna run some local errands today....and rake some leaves. Dd will be here later on for awhile. Mentally I have figured out how to make sense of the bad directions for the panel quilt ( they give conflicting information, telling you to make the corner blocks first and then to attach one of the pieces of the corner block as a separate piece later). I will have it figured out somehow. Time to assemble it and move on.

Ginny, my experiences picking up grocery orders from WAlmart have all been very good. You order online of course, tell them when you'll be there. Then you just pull up into one of the designated spaces, call them and tell then that you're there and which space you're in. They're all numbered. You open your truck or hatch or whatever, they come out wearing a mask, put everything into the truck, close your trunk and you're good to go. No fees, no tips allowed.
This which way filet is for my 15 year old grandson that lives here. All the girls in the family are going to receive a pocket shawl and dgs and his dad will get a lap blanket which will be slightly larger than the normal lapghan becasuse they are tall.''bbl dh just got up

Phyl, yes a couple years ago my dgs and I carried a lot of wood because I forgot that I'm old now and my shoulders and upper back and even to the front of my collarbone hurt really bad for about 10 days. I hope your friend feels better soon and that you do too.
Ginny, I know you'll have a good time visiting with your dd. Raking leaves is not fun. Luckily here we don't have leaves to rake. I do remember back in 2006 I went to visit when my ds and ddil had the 4th child and while they were in hospital the grandchildren and I raked a lot of leaves. It was fun doing it with them. They had bushes of flowers that I can't remember the name of right now that had overgrown and were very thick and filled with leaves. Dgs and I got all of them out and all of them had fun jumping into the leaf piles. One of the things I used to do with them on every visit was go for walks. I probably couln't even walk that far now.I'm glad to hear that you've figure out how to put that panel quilt together. It's so frustrating when directions are not clear or are conflicting.

well finally after a year and a half I got the horns sewn on the Viking hats. The first two went pretty well but the third doesn't look all that great but it's not like they're going to wear these as serious hats. Now on to sewing on pockets and buttons. I hope I do a better job with that.

Ruth, got total confidence in you that you will be able to do a great job of getting buttons and pockets sewn on. I am sure that all 3 Viking hats look great and the little ones will love them. I am happy for you that you got that done!! Thanks for the evaluation of picking up an order from Walmart. My friend’s experience was exactly like yours- she was very pleased. Think her plan is to place a large order once a month and then fill in for milk and perishables at the local stores here. I really like that they charge no fees and its really non contact. None of the stores here offer that kind of service- well except for the hardware store that I ordered bird seed from during the peak of the covid breakout here. Think if I have to go to that level of shopping again, I will drive to walmart....gee they can even pick out yarn or other household items like that.
Yes, got some leaves raked....and had a good visit with Dd.. I don’t mind raking leaves....but we have a lot of trees. today was just the start. Spent no time crafting- except I had to put away the panel quilt in a hurry cause Dd went into that room.
CJ, Phyl, Sue and Rene....hope you all had a good day Ginny

Ginny, I've never checked but I thought that the curbside pickup was only for groceries and anything else that's sold in the grocery department.I don't know how they go about the pickup for other things because they do have order online and pickup at the store but I know that you used to have to go inside and they have a little area full of lockers. You swipe your smart phone and they come to that area and unlock the locker for you. I don't know if they still do that or if you can get curbside for things in the other departments or not.
I did get the two pockets on one shawl and one on another. The light was not good in my dining room so I will have to wait until tomorrow to finish those. It also made my back ache to do that sewing leaning over at the table but I needed to have them flat to keep the pockets in place. Some people have advised to put fabric glue on the pockets to hold them in place while sewing but I haven't tried that. I would think that it would leave a residue.

Ruth,Thanks for the heads up on Walmart at home orders. I was hoping that I could order groceries and also throw in an occasional skein of yarn or something like that. Still for the value of having no shopping fee and the ability to have them deliver the groceries directly to your car, I might give that a try. Sounds like you and Dh have had good success with it. Bet you are happy having made some progress finishing the pocket shawls. Why is it that those finishing touches on some projects are such stumbling blocks for crafters?? Wouldn’t it be nice if our tables could magically adjust to the right height for whatever we were working on? Think the idea of fabric glue on the pockets might be a great idea- perhaps a few dots of glue on the corners and one or two in the middle of a seam might work without causing problems with residue. You made 6 pocket shawls....do they all still need pockets (other than the 1 1/2 you got done).
Got church this am- and then am stopping at my friends house for awhile. They say we are in for a lot of rain tomorrow, the leftover from hurricane Delta. Guess I will enjoy being outside today.

Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today We're getting some rain here today and tomorrow, from the hurricane - no wind though. I'm hoping that it isn't too much rain. I think I solved the problem around one of my windows where the heavy rain was getting in, but I'll guess I'll be able to see with this storm. I started piecing the bowtie quilt top together. I decided to break it down into 5 sections. Four of them are like a large 9 patch and the last section is a row of 6 blocks. I have all the 9 Patch sections and the row sewn together I just need to piece the 4 large blocks together first and then add the row to the bottom. I'm hoping to get it done today, I started it but then got distracted with a problem in the house. I think my refrigerator is dying. It's really old, so I'm not surprised. The freezer seems O.K., but the refrigerator side was not as cool as it normally is this morning. I turned the cooling part down so I'll see if that helps. The motor had started making a different noise the last few days. I started looking at refrigerators on the internet and there are a lot of them that are out of stock or backordered at many stores. I guess a lot of people bought them during the early virus stuff and also maybe the makers don't have enough people working to keep up supply. I do see a few that I could get this coming week, others would be the week after that. I guess I'll have to go out tomorrow and look in a few stores and see what they have in stock that could be delivered soon. I'm sure that's going to be fun //sarcasm//. I'm also concerned about getting the old one out of the house. I've been measuring doors and I guess they'll be able to turn it sideways and get it out one of my doors. I figure if they got it in here, they can get it out Hope everyone else is having a good

Ginny, yes I'd love if they would throw things from other departments in with my groceries. You give me more credit than I deserve. Nope I didn't make 6 pocket shawls. I only made three (maybe 4). I did make six button cowls. I still haven't made further progress on the pockets. I'm sure you had an enjoyable time with your friend. It's nice that you have a friend that you feel it's safe to visit.
CJ, that's exactly what happened to my refrigerator. The main part seemed like it wasn't as cold so we put in a thermometer and sure enough it wasn't cold and despite us turning it to colder it didn't work and finally gave up completely. The freezer still worked though. So we bought a new one... a Frigadare and it lasted 16 months. The old one was way over 20 years old.I'm glad to hear that you're back in a quilting frame of mind. You do such beautiful work and I'd bet it makes you feel great to have completed yet another project.
I haven't got any crafting done today as I did some cooking and baked a couple batches of biscuits. Now dh has sausage gravy and some of what I guess you would call creamed chicken for on his biscuits. I made some of the biscuits with some Bisquick I had left then two batches from scratch. The Bisquick ones, for the most part, rose higher but the scratch ones looked more appetizing because they were a better color due to the butter I used in them.Dh also ate some plain and the scratch ones also tasted a little better. With the gravies on them you probably wouldn't be able to tell a difference. Last night after I gave up on the pockets for the day I worked on dgs' blanket. I'm going to go sew on a pocket now I think then will work on the blanket again this evening.

Ruth - I hate to hear that you problems with Frigidaire refrigerator since that is about the only brand I'm finding that is available within a week or so - everything else is out of stock or on backorder for November/December. If I get that brand, maybe it will last longer for me *crosses fingers*

CJ- been thinking about you and the remains of hurricane Delta- its tracking near your area...hope the winds are light and you do not get much rain. The big issues with appliances and stuff like that (including mattresses) is that the manufacturing facilities were all shut down for some time- limited shifts or they could not get raw materials. That is what I was told as to why I have been waiting for a new mattress since August. Most of the time they can remove the doors from the refrigerator to get it into the house. They will do the same thing with the old one to remove it. You will see a noticeable difference in your electricity bill with a new fridge. Even if you do not buy an “energy star” the new ones are just so much more energy efficient. i hope you are able to find something quickly that is available. Good news that you got so far with the bow tie quilt. I can imagine you would really want that done before you have to take on looking for a new refrigerator. Don’t blame you there.
Ruth, so once again.....my lame brain kicks in. Ok so you made 6 cowls....ha ha ha...you are a crocheting wizard so its not beyond comprehension that you made 6 pocket shawls. That sounds like a really good strategy- putting on a pocket and then going back to DGS afghan. Gee those biscuits sound wonderful. My Dh was not a big fan of any biscuits at all, which meant that they were not here for me to eat! ( love biscuits). It does not surprise me that the bisquick ones rose more.. I once made a birthday cake (we were home celebrating Dh’s birthday ) and we had his parents over. I made an angel food cake from scratch...egg whites /cake flour etc.....my MIL who for some stupid reason figured that I would not make a birthday cake for my husband ( she was an odd duck) brought over her angel food cake, which rose much higher than mine. (Very humiliating - but that was how she was). Her cake was made from a mix....and as Dh did not seem to care, I never made an angel food cake from scratch again. Hope you have a pleasant evening working on that afghan. My gf has to be very careful, her Dh has AFIB and her mom (around age 80) lives with her. So its important for her to be careful...we did visit outside on her deck- the weather was pleasant enough to do that.
I recut the upper and lower border for the panel quilt.. I do not like how they want it constructed and it wont show enough of the printed border on the panel. Tomorrow I will sew the border together and get busy on the panel top. Pretty sure my approach on how to put it together will work. It seems silly that I have been so stumped by something so simple.
Think I am going to crochet a bit this evening....and tomorrow is Monday.. Ginny

CJ, well it's just like my water heater. Millions buy the brand I got and they work fine. The one I repaced my water heater with was the same brand and it's working just fine. I'm sure that there are many more people that buy Frigidares that have good luck with them than bad. If you have a lot of time on your hands you can read reviews for Frigidare and other brands and you'll probably be afraid to buy one at all. But whatever you buy and wherever you buy it get the guarantee. Oh another thing about my fridge, and many others mentioned this too in reviews, they put the handles on in a very weird was and they don't last. When you call to tell them your handle broke they'll tell you that handles are only cosmetic so are not covered under the one year warranty but, as a favor to the customer they will send you a new set of handles free. Well my second handle didn't last any longer than the first which was about three months. I doubt that there's any appliances that will work as well as the ones we all had years ago. Shouldn't say a word but my electric clothes dryer has lasted now over 32 years and that included two moves where it probably was jostled a lot. And yes, as Ginny said, they'll take the doors off if needed and they will also take the house door off too if that's needed.
Ginny, I know that you're very creative and I'm sure your way of putting the panel quilt together will work much better and make much more sense. I've made a lot of cakes in my life both from mixes and from scratch but I've never made an angel food cake. I remember my grandmother making one at our house when I was a child. She put it upside down on a glass ketchup bottle to cool. I guess that;s why they have those prong things on the top of angel food cake pans now so that you can turn it upside down and set it on those prongs. No ketchup bottles not to put it on for sure.
I decided to take a break from making things for others for a couple hours and make myself a pair of slippers. Most crochet slippers are kinda ugly and also hurt your feet when you walk in them but I found a pattern that's done in mostly all fpdc so they're nice and soft and squishy and warm. They will help keep my toes from tuning dark blue like they do when cold. The blueness doesn't bother me but it makes dh nervous. He insists it's going to turn to gangrene....It won't.

Ginny and Ruth - Thanks for your information and thoughts on the appliance. After looking for several more hours on the internet today, I've found some GE refrigerators that might work well. Everybody I talked to said to avoid Frigidaire. I'm going to go to Lowe's tomorrow and see what they have and how long it will take for delivery. I also want to make sure they'll take the old one out. If I can't get one there, then a family member recommended Bray and Scarff - so I'd try them next. I know I'm not very normal, but my electric bills are very low. The one I just paid for last month was only $62 But it will be nice to get one of the newer Energy Star appliances. I didn't get back to working on my quilt top, all these stuff stresses me out so I need to get it figured out first. I'm glad that both of you are getting to do some crafting.

hi girls, OUR neighbor order 3 frigidares and sent back online.he finally bought local.we have double door fridge and love. took years for them to come out with one to fit the space we have.
one thing measure the width height of your frige. they come in different sizes
make sure Lowes has guy who come out and service appliances now.
alot of people are finding out the big box stores don't. they also finding out local stored will not come out and service if you did not buy from them
we bought ours through Karl's. he has 23 stores through out the country. they do service their own customers only. their motto is our customers come first.
so really ask questions. phyl
