Hello Crafters - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - Hope you enjoyed your time with your DD. What type of quilting paper are you using to quilt your panel quilts? I would love to see your demos of the different threads. Ruth - I'm so happy your family shared pictures with you of the kid's opening their gifts from you. It sounds like everyone really enjoyed what you sent. I'm happy that your DGD liked that camera, I remember you saying that is what she wanted. I know kids kind of live in the moment, but I hope they always remember all these special gifts that you made for them. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are doing well. After the last beautiful weather day yesterday we have rain today, tomorrow and through Friday morning. I'm just glad we had nice weather for so far into November. I did get a visit for an estimate from the tree company I called. They said they are so busy and backed up that it would be January before they could do the job! I went ahead and signed up for it, but I could cancel if I wanted. I think that I might be able to remove the limbs from the top of my neighbor's shed myself. I just need to ask her if I can come into her yard and have her show me the ones that she is concerned about. I'll do that after the rain is over. I do think I'll get the trees cut down, so I don't have to worry about anything else falling into her yard. I haven't felt like doing any quilting, just too many things on my mind. Maybe I'll get back to it soon, or once my order comes from MSQC. I ordered things for 4 quilt tops, so maybe I'll work on those. I do have a few other small projects I might try to work on too. Hope all of you are getting to do some crafting. Take care

Good evening! Ruth, I hear ya- sometimes going out to go shopping is just so stressful...and it makes you think you never ever want to go out again. My friend was out today.....and many were shopping cause of Veterans Day sales....very congested. Anyway, good to hear that you got the Lapghan done.
CJ-glad to hear that the tree people got back to you. Think I would have done the same thing- signed them up to come when they can get to you, but try to do some trimming to help your neighbor out. Just be careful....dont want you to get injured!!! Hoping that the box from MSQ arrives at your home soon!!!
Got the quilt sandwich put together...got a few busy days ahead, so I might not get to sew until Friday. I did finish the pocket shawl (gosh what a pretty pattern). Just have to make the pockets. Slept poorly, so I am off to bed. G

Quiet here today. Been a busy day, I worked this am- then got to the store. Dd#2 and DSIL are coming over for dinner, so I have been busy cooking. (Made lasagna). Also babysat DGD #2 for awhile, while Dd took DGS#2 for his 4 month check up. Time has flown.... My crafting for today might just be getting the directions for the pocket for the pocket shawl. I can see how she has made the pockets- she really does not have any “scientific” method here, so I might modify the pocket a bit. Presently thinking that I will give the pocket shawl to DD#2- who is always cold.
So last night Dd#2 calls me and wants to make granny square Christmas stockings for her and DSIL. Thought I was going to laugh hysterically- she ordered a set of crochet hooks. I have my set of hooks- plus my mom’s and for certain sizes (like K) have 4 or 5 of that size. I told her to cancel the order- which she did. Speaking of hooks- anyone got a preference- between Susan Bates or Boye? Yes I prefer Susan Bates- they do not have a pointed top- the pointed top drives me nuts. But then I am half nuts anyway.
Hope to check in and see who is here later on G

I do love lasagna. I know you're having a nice visit and great meal together. As for crochet hooks I try to use the Susan Bates are at least that style. The pointy ones always seem to grab the yarn and cause splits. Now though I have Clover Armour. They are amazing up to size K. At K they start making them in plastic instead of the metal that the others are made of. The end you catch the yarn with is kind of in between Bates and Boye but more toward Bates and really work well. I still hdn't got my yarn yesterday so went to the site to see about contacting them and found they have a tracking function. So I did that and found that my order had been cancelled. So I did an online chat to find out who and why my order was cancelled. Started at #28 in the queue, finally got to #1 after almost 30 min then my chat was cancelled/ So another half hour and finally got an agent who was really of no use at all.She did say it was cancelled on ther verification process and could have been "payment method,or mistake in shipping or billing address". Well my credit card was fine and the addresses on the order were correct but the biggest problem I see is that if there was any problem why didn't they email me? So I'm kind of angry with Michael's. Ginny, I think that I made the pockets on that shawl different than the pattern also and I don't know if she says this or not but I've found that if I do a row of sc around the whole pocket it makes a nicer edge for the top and it also makes it easier to sew it on to the shawl I've made good progress on the shawl I'm working on. I'm making the same pattern...thik I said this yesterday... but I'm going the v stitch part separately from the edging and will make an entirely different edging that she has with those five dc's on each side. I will be making different pockets for this one too. I'll show you the link for the pockets I'm making this time. www.twoofwands.com/blog/kodiak-hooded-pocket-scarf

Ruth, I think I would be livid with Michaels -that is awful that they cancelled your order without ever letting you know. From the way this communication sounds- that you were dropped /chat cancelled/useless customer service rep- well I would probably not purchase from them again. The yarn you wanted, do other companies carry it? I am sure the Michaels price was great....but I hope that someone else also has a good price on it, or free shipping. You must be so frustrated. I would be!!! Thanks for the link for the different pockets. That pocket is sure neat- a very stylish edge - the diagonal cuff is so pretty. Glad you are making good progress on it.
Nice evening with Dd and DSIL. Still got some lasagna left if anyone wants to stop over....ha ha ha. Dd did bring her yarn and I helped refresh her memory on how to make a granny square. Looks like she is hooked already on crocheting- which she has not done for a few years.
Totally agree with Ruth on the crochet hooks- I prefer the Susan Bates style. Dd likes the Boye style with the pointed end....so I can give her those and we will both be happy.
Have a good night! Sue, Phyl and CJ- hope you are getting some crafting in Ginny

Ginny, I don't intend to buy from Michael's ever again and I nicely thanked the rep for her time and told her I'd buy my yarn from another company. Some of the yarn I ordered was RHSS which I can get much cheaper somewhere else I'm sure. The rest I think was Michael's brand...loops and thread but just because they had the color I wanted. So I may just buy from Mary Maxim because I've had good luck with them and they are the ones tht gave me free shipping because I left yarn in my virual cart...twice. I keep waiting for Herrschnerr's to have flat rate or free shipping but thy haven't had either all this year that I heard of. So anyway I do actually have enough yarn. I'll just have to be creative on colors
Ok I'll be over tomorrow for the lasagna.I'm glad you had a nice visit.

Joanns seems to have 40% off all Lion brand yarns... at least today. Not sure if that helps at all.

And just noticed that today they have $4.99 shipping...yippee.....Missouri quilting has free shipping today. Good thing I do not know what I want or need, or I might place another order.

Ok, Ginny, I'm telling my dh that it's your fault . I went to Joann's and have a bunch of yarn in my cart. That's a fantastic deal with forty percent off and flat rate shipping. They had some other yarns on sale also.I tried to limit myself just to what I really need and no extras. I think I need to make a list of the yarns I really do NEED not merely want. I did get a bit done on the shawl last night but unfortunately I seem to be running out of that yarn. It was yarn that I got at Hobby Lobby on clearance so it may be discontinued. I'll imprivise though and find a yarn that goes well with it for the border I don't know how cold it is but the wind is sure blasting. I'm glad I don't have to go anywhere. I did a bunch of cooking yesterday and will finish up the soup today.

See? ? Tell Dh that it is ALL my fault. Yup, that is what I thought about the yarn prices and flat rate shipping. And 2 weeks ago I had an excellent experience with Joanns placing those 2 orders- one that had yarn and some quilting supplies and the other all yarn. Both shipments were in my hands within a week (actually less) and they communicated well. Glad I found that sale...and alerted you to it. I became frustrated with Mary Maxim’s site, actually had a nice afghan kit in my cart- want to make one for Dd #2 and her Dh. Had an afghan loaded...and now it does not even exist on their web site. Hmm.... Now I am considering going to Lion brand to get a pattern- and then to Joanns to buy the yarn. I must be nuts. Rumors are starting to fly in my area that the governor is going to shut down things again. So I guess I should buy some yarn, right?? Will check things out and let you know how I fare. Cold here....got my annual visit to the gyn done- have to wait a month for my mammo (usually can get in within a week or so).. Backup cause of the previous Covid shutdown. G

The few remaining brown leaves on the trees are blowing into the next county with the extremely gusty winds that are taking snow off the roof. Tomorrow is supposed to be the windy day!
I was awake during the night , so I went back to sleep just as it was getting light.
Our flu shots are coming to us! With numbers of covid 19 increasing, I didn't want to go out to get one. The newish Medicare provision for nurse practitioners to do home visits with the elderly seems to be happening without my having to do anything! We have our appointments on December 9th.

Sue, I haven't heard about the one for nurse practitioners coming to your home. I see a lot of benefits included in Advantage plans on tv but none are available in my state.
Ginny, I'm sorry to hear about your afgan kit disappearing. Lovecrafts also has great patterns on their site...probably about a million free patterns. They also have very nice yarn and charge a flat rate of $4.99 all the time. They also send some of the yarn packed in nice reusable bags and sometimes a couple candies. Delivery is fast too. Hmmm, haven't ordered from Joann's yet so maybe I need to check Lovecrafts...well maybe not.I'd probably end up getting both. I did find the yarn I needed for dh's pocket wrap on Walmart and ordered that so it should be here Mon or Tues. That's all I really need but gee, Joann's sale is so good and I also got an additonal 20% off with a coupon from Honey. Do any of the rest of you use Honey. I've received some really good coupons from there. If you have it it pops up when you make an order and checks thru all available coupons to see which is best then you have the option of using it or not. Sometimes the store has a better coupon that Honey doesn't have yet.

Hello Crafters Ginny - Sorry you lost out on that afghan kit, but I'm glad you were able to find some things at JoAnns. I'm also glad you were able to get your medical appointment done and hope the next appointment goes well. I was shocked when I called for my dental cleaning and the first available date was 2 months away. I wonder if the medical offices can't make as many appointments each day because of the virus cleaning requirements or maybe less people working in the offices? Ruth - That was terrible how Michael's treated you, I understand not ever ordering from them again. I'm glad you were able to find some yarn at Joanns. I've never heard of Honey, but it sounds like they have some good deals. Sue - That's great that you can get your shots and not even have to leave your house, a wonderful service for seniors and also for less exposure to the virus. Phyl - Hope you are doing well. We're back to sunny weather here today but cooler around 60 degrees. I had a busy morning and early afternoon. I went out this morning and cut back as many branches as I could from the trees that were hanging over my neighbor's shed. There aren't any laying on the roof anymore, but there are a lot that are about 9 feet or so above the shed that I can't reach. I don't think someone can just get back in there and cut off those branches, I really think they'd have to cut the whole tree down. It's a tight area with fences on 2 sides and the ground is uneven. I felt like I was in a forest My neighbor gave the number of a guy that has trimmed trees around the neighborhood. I'm not sure if I'll call him or not, I really prefer to go with a reputable company like I've already set up with. I may just keep an eye on the branches and make sure none fall on her roof shed before January when the company I hired can get here. This is just a petty gripe - but it's really not my responsibility to cut the branches that go over the fence - she should really have to do it even though it's my trees. I just have a lot of things stressing me out right now, and I didn't need this one added on. I spent another few hours today talking to former co-workers. They like to call from time to time to complain about their jobs, so I just listen since that's what they really need. By the time all that was done the afternoon was half over! I did get my order from MSQC today. I only ordered on November 2nd, so that was a really quick turnaround compared to the last time when it was over a month. They must be really overwhelmed there because I never received a message saying the order was sent so I could track the package - I just happened to see the mail carrier leave the package on my front steps (even though there is a big sign that says please leave packages at back door) so I was able to go right out and get it. Now I have fabrics for 4 quilts, so maybe I can start making them soon. I have patterns for 3 of them and the last one is a panel with some coordinating fabric, so I was just thinking about putting a border around the panel - not sure yet though. Here's the panel and coordinating fabric: www.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/117958/timeless-treasures/timeless-treasures/winter-barn-red-barn-multi-panelwww.missouriquiltco.com/shop/detail/117956/timeless-treasures/timeless-treasures/winter-barn-red-barns-in-snow-multi-yardageThanks for listening to me gripe about things Nothing is ever that bad really, but sometimes the smaller issues in life are the the most irritating and stressful Take care everyone and have a great weekend!

Sue, that is wonderful that you are able to get your flu shot at your house! (I had to go to the pharmacy for mine). I am really happy for you and Dh- especially with virus cases going up all over. So you have some windy weather....at least you do not have to rake the leaves as they just blow whereever. Ever wonder where they end up???
Ruth-get that Joanns order in!! ( I wont tell Dh.....). Anyway, I have heard of Honey and will have to give that a try. Sounds like it might save some money- although everything I ordered today had a discount code already and they usually only permit one code per order. I ended up getting an email from Mary Maxim reminding me about the kit in my cart...which BTW has the directions included. So I am happy- I did call Mary Maxim (gosh have not ordered from them in probably 35 years) as I wanted to know that the instructions would be included. I was asking the rep about the one yarn color (it looks purple in the picture, but they call it grey). She said its a nice grey and liked that I changed the one color from taupe to teal. Their web site was super slow.....and she said they have been very very busy since April. And they figure that they will be closing again (they are located in Michigan). I figure we will be closing down also- and placed the order.
CJ- well the way that things are here, your neighbor could trim those branches herself. Don’t blame you for stressing over that....but you have made arrangements to have the tree trimmed and its fine to wait for the tree service to come in January. Bet all those conversations on the phone were tiring- they usually are. Nice to stay in contact with former coworkers though. Congrats on your MSQ order arriving! So now you have LOTS of fun stuff to keep you busy. The winter barn panel is really nice- and I can see why you ordered it. Would you use the printed matching fabric for the back??
I placed an order for 2 flannel blouses for Dd#2 and a flannel shirt for her Dh today too. At least now I have (or have ordered) something for everyone...I figured that things are going to get tough trying to mail order items, especially if things are locking down.
What I heard about the process of getting an appointment for a mammogram was that it was all just getting caught up from when all nonessential services were shut. Unless my governor changes his mind, I heard today that they increasing restrictions will apply until December 12- and my appointment is December 8. I would really like to get that done before things lock down, if they do. G

CJ, I never was a fan of barns but it sure looks like that panel quilt will be great with the coordinating fabic. I love the little barns in it. It's changed my outlook on barn quilts.I have found, too that when old coworkers or classmates call they usually want to talk about things that are bothering them. You have a kind heart. And I can see why you would be stressed. You have enough to think about without having to worry about tree branches
Ginny, yes, I do hope you get your mammo in before what THEY consider non essential procedures are put on hold. And yes you will need lots of yarn and lots of quilting supplies if they shut things down again. Your governor is an idiot. I'm sure you said that he thinks that it's too bad that an announcement of a vaccine was made while President Trump was in office. Most would think that the sooner a vaccine was available the better and not care who got credit for it happening in their administration. Of course it's not going to be administered for quite awhile yet. I'm thinking probably not until spring when the number of cases will decline anyway.
I did order from Joann's but I did manage to control myself in what I ordered. Honey is a Chrome extention that brings up available coupons when you order. I don't know how that works as in whether or not you have to use Chrome as your browser. I imagine you do but I don't know much about extensions. They also have a feature where you can put items in your "save for later" feature in Amazon and they will let you know if the price goes down. They call it a droplist
