Good morning and Happy Saturday all
Ruth, so glad you got that Joanns order placed. ( I am just getting ready to hear a television segment on getting your holiday ordering done early). Not sure if the yarn you just ordered was for Christmas gifts or not, but I hope that the order is perfect and arrives quickly. After what happened with the Michaels order, it would sure be nice if you got the order exactly as you want!!! Ok I dislike going political on this thread...but I will make a statement about him. He did a brilliant job of making sure he inserted himself in the national spotlight, has an ego larger than the Grand Canyon and I for those who think he is wonderful, might feel different living under his policies. He is not all bad- but ya gotta know its all about him, not us.
I can switch to Google Chrome- and give Honey a try. I do know from several recent communications with different entities that Chrome is considered the best search engine- will have to give it a try. (I had a virtual meeting that I was unable to attend unless I was on Chrome.). And yes, Red Barns are just so pretty.....cannot wait to see what CJ does with that panel
Phyl- you have been a bit quiet this week, and I hope you are ok....looking forward it hearing from you.
Sue- how did the “woofers” survive the windy day? Can you send them out to do their business or do you have to go with them using a leash??
I was thinking of CJ and Sue this am (think Phyl probably sees most of her family and Ruth I already know ships her Christmas gifts). Sues DD’s live on opposite coasts and CJ usually does gift cards for her family...I would think it would be better to take care of sending gifts or at least ordering them sooner as opposed to later.
And happy National Pickle day!! Have a great day!!!!
One last thing....if you see the number of reads that the thread gets, there are some who are reading and do not post. Its ok if you do not technically craft- if you saw a really pretty scarf that looks like it was hand made or just wonder what its all about, please feel free to stop in. Any of us are happy to help out newcomers to crafting or even just someone who wants to know what to buy as a gift for a crafter. Ginny

I guess I'd better get some things ordered for dh. I don'tknow what to get for him though but I guess some little things. No the yarn I'm getting from Joann's is not for Christmas gifts so I'm not concerned about how long it will take to get here. The Honey coupon for an additonal 20% off didn't apply to what they call doorbusters so I only got $5 off but, hey, that pays for the shipping. There wasn't a code that you needed to put in for the things on sale which is what I got but, yes, if they require a code it doesn't work although sometimes with the Honey coupon you'll be more off than the site is offering and you get to choose which coupon code you want to use.Now the little bit of yarn I ordered from Walmart is for a Christmas gift but that will be here probably Tues or Wed.
That's a nice message you posted, Ginny, for those that read but don't stop in. Yes we sure welcome nice friendly people.
Sorry I mentioned politics. Sometimes I get carried away.I'm just glad that I don't live in NY anymore
Haven't done a thing in crafting yet today. Had to take care of other business but now back to crochet

Long day- but a good one. Got a bit of housework done this am- and then Dd stopped in. We put my Christmas tree up- this was something we had been scheming to do- we both love Christmas trees and I am helping her put hers up next weekend. As I said to Ds when he came home from work - well what do you expect when its getting close to Thanksgiving and you put two December birthday babies together....both Dd#2 and I have December birthdays. The tree is up, and I am very happy about it.
Ends up the family is getting together here on Thanksgiving. We will be under the governors guideline for numbers of people. I do know that some of the family will attempt to get together for a family walk- permitting those who want to get together (extended family) can do so and remain good distance. That is the plan for now- unless covid cases go through the roof and its prudent to amend the plan.
Ruth, congrats on getting all your Christmas shopping done!! Wow.....wish I could say the same but I am making some progress. I appreciate the explanation on how Honey works. Sounds like a good system and it avoids having to search for discount codes, which can be very annoying and does not always work. Hope your Joanns order and your walmart yarn orders show up quickly. Don’t worry about the political mention... we usually don’t “go there” and lets be honest, its been a frustrating couple of weeks no matter how you feel about politics.
I did help Dd with her granny square Christmas stockings, its been a long time since she has crocheted. Good to see her “hooking” again. As she is only a few weeks away from being done with her masters, perhaps she will have some time for crocheting. We did discuss Christmas gifts- and I will be making a batch of my home made Kahlua for DSIL. Its easy to make, less expensive than the real thing to buy and tastes really good (if you like Kahlua). I will have to pick up the ingredients on Monday- as it has to “age” for a month. None of us are big drinkers at all.....Dd thought DSIL would enjoy it as its home made. Guess I got my crafting in- and I am sitting down to watch a movie and crochet in a little bit.
Have a good evening all G

First night here where we went below 32. I had trouble sleeping last night but slept late (until 7) and made up for difficulty in the middle of the night. Anyway, as I sit here next to my Christmas tree, I am watching a segment on the news on folks putting up their Christmas decorations early. I am not the only nut out there. It makes me happy having the tree up and I am thankful Dd helped me do it. BBL G

Hello Crafters Ginny - I'm glad you have your tree up and can enjoy it through the holidays. I'm also glad you have family around you since the holidays after we lose someone are tough. Ruth - Good for you getting all your Christmas shopping done! I do usually buy gift cards or give cash to family. It seems like this year is different, but I guess it really isn't. I'll just have to get to Target to buy the cards for the 2 families I send those to. They each have school age children and I figure it's easier for them to go to Target, so the kids can get something they want but I wonder if they are even shopping out this year. I'll have to think on this, it might be better just to send cash. The weather has been pretty nice here, but we're supposed to get some rain and strong wind early this evening. Here's a story of how I spent several hours on the internet yesterday just from seeing one picture (I'm sure you can all relate ): 1. Reading a quilting blog and I see a picture of a pretty crocheted afghan/blanket and I want to figure out the stitch it's done in 2. Start searching crochet stitches and it's the shell stitch, which I thought it was 3. Start watching YouTube videos of the shell stitch 4. Like a couple of the people doing the videos, so I search out their other videos 5. Watch more videos of other crocheted afghan/blankets 6. Go to web pages that are referenced to see patterns of the afghans/blankets 7. Save several patterns 8. Start searching for yarns I'd like to use if I made this new afghan pattern I found, not the original shell stitch one 9. Finally get tired of looking at crochet afghan/blankets and yarn and go onto the next thing 10. Spent another hour finding quilt patterns and saving them and reading through webpages I'll be checking out the Slow Sunday Stitching blogs today, and hope to work on some craft item (I'll likely get distracted and want to try a sample of that crochet stitch I saved the pattern for!) Hope you all have a good day and get to do some crafting. Take care!

Ruth and Ginny - I have a yarn question for you. Here's the video of the crochet blanket that I want to try: www.youtube.com/watch?v=WooueeaoB1M&list=PLCtrs9o46Za5zqv9HRcQEGrHmFHFCg_2w&index=6It uses Red Heart Saver Chunky yarn which I can find for sale when searching, but it doesn't come in variegated colors, which I'd really like to do with this blanket. My question is - what other type of yarn would work with this? Another thick yarn, like Bernat blanket? Or is there another close "weight size" to the Red Heart that you'd recommend? I find all the different "weight sizes" of yarn confusing sometimes. Thanks for your help

I don't know why my laptop is making me sign in. I don't remember the password so an just being a guest.
CJ it looks like you spent your day doing the same things I do except for the quilting sites. I do go to some on some days.
The RHSS chunky is a bulky 5 yarn. Bernat blanket yarn is a 6. Blanket yarn also kind of hides the stitch so I'd stick to a #5.I can't really think of a #5 that comes in variegated off hand.(just woke up so not awake yet) If they give multipes you could use a #4 yarn instead. or you could hold two strands together but that can become frustrating if they keep tangling. Bernat softee chunky would be a great yarnn to use. It's nice and soft and I think that premier Serenity Chunky comes in variegated. I'm going to go look at that blanket now.

Ok went to the site.Is it the crochet beginner throw? If so I think that the Bernat blanket yarn would work great for that. Looks like the multiples are only 2 so would be easy to adjust using any yarn. You could easily adjust it to any size
So for your Target gift cards, you could send them and if the recipients don't go to physical stores they can use them online.

The one thing I need to caution you about is using velvet yarn, Lots of people see it, feel it, and decide theyp have to have it because it's so soft and lush feeling. BUT, it does worm. I'm not sure if Bernat blanket yarn worms or not. I haven't seen anyone mention that happening. I've made a few blankets with it but I haven't given them to anyone yet so don't know if they'll worm or not. I didn't even know what worming was until I made dh a scarf with chenille yarn then I thought I must have done something wrong but no, it was between stitches...hard to describe but basically loops of your yarn come out from the item you made. It's weird. The scarf I made him was knitted in garter stitch and they say that's the worst when it comes to worming but people have had problems with it in their crochet things too.

Ruth - Thanks so much for the information and the tips. I appreciate them If I make this I don't think I'll use the Bernat Blanket yarn, it's too thick for how I'd want it to look. I've made a few things with the Bernat Blanket yarn but haven't really used them, so I hope they don't worm. Sometimes that yarn is so thick you can't even see the pattern you've crocheted. But I do love the variegated yarns in that line. I was searching out #5 weight yarns and also looked at #4, so I'll keep to those if I do decide to try this. I had an experience once with buying yarn that felt like velvet - it was so tough to work with I gave the yarn away

Cj- check out Joanns!!! They have red heart scarfie and red heart gemstone yarns. Both are 5 weight yarns, and offer variegated colors. Both get decent reviews too. And if you order before tuesday Joanns has free shipping!! Yippee! I checked out your pattern and it seems to be basically double crochets after you get through the foundation chain. It should be easy to make and go pretty quickly for you. I think it’s a great pattern for you to start with and then make some thing nice and fuzzy and warm and comfortable for yourself or as a gift. I tend to agree with Ruth go ahead and get gift cards. Why don’t you order them online. Won’t target allow you to buy gift cards online? Why go out to the store. I’m doing as much as I can from the comfort of my home or with curbside pick up. And your day sounds a bit like mine- or how mine can go.....searching fro a pattern or gift idea and then morphing in to all kinds of places etc that I did not want to be. BTW- I have gotten patterns from the Lion Brand site before, and had decent luck. I totally agree with Ruth- do not attempt to work with that velvet yarn. Its so soft but does not hold up well at all. If you tug on it, the strands fall apart.
Ruth, when I think of you as a guest here I want to laugh. Hope you can resolve your log in issues!!!.
This is one of those days in which I wish we all lived close by. I would pick up Ruth in my car and we would head over to CJ’s to help her pick out the perfect yarn. But who am I kidding- I am in my PJ’s already....and we have super high winds here. I am totally happy Chilling here at home. Anyway, CJ- see if Joanns has yarn that will work for you. I saw some awfully pretty yarn on their web site.
Got some top stitching done on the panel quilt. (The second one). Now am going to work on the pocket for the pocket shawl. I did get some leaf raking in this afternoon. Now its super windy out there. Kind of wonder why I bothered. Hope everyone has a good night.

CJ- you could have target email the gift card to you (avoids shipping) and then mail them to your family members....just an idea. Here some of the supermarkets also sell Target cards. Think it is a year to try to get this Christmas shopping done as easily as possible.

I have to confess that my Christmas shopping consisted only of going to Amazon and looking up and ordering a couple things I had in mind for dh and a canister of hot chocolate mix that I'm going to put with the mugs, mug cozies and mug rugs that I'm going to make for the neighbor. I know they drink hot chocolate.
Joann's has already shipped part of my order...far cry from what Michaels did.
CJ, yes some of that blanket yarn is really pretty. I tried to order some of the silver color one time but it was out of stock. Now I see it's on sale at Herrschnerr's. If they had decent shipping price I'd probably order some so probably just as well because I probably already have more yarn than I can use in the rest of my life.
Ginny, I hope a nice pocket idea comes to you or you see one you like online. As for being in pj's, yep I believe in comfort and what could be more comfortable than pj's.
