It's been a busy day for me too but not because of Thanksgiving prep. I made dh a carrot cake and made some cornbread to go with beans I made. Also made hard boiled eggs to make more pickled eggs. They're so good. Not the beet kind. I did get in some crochet time. I got the shawl completed last night except for pockets and weaving ends to it's not really done... just close to it but I started another because I guess I'm just tired of looking at that same yarn
Ginny, I'm sorry to hear that you didn't sleep well. I had to take a second of the pills for my bladder problem and they caused me to sleep very well. It sounds like you're coming along well with your quilt. You will soon be done with that one.
Phyl, I'm glad to hear the shot for the hip worked well for you. I wonder what they injected. I do think that Mr Biden can dress himself but I'm sure he needs help when it comes to what should be said and done in his role as a president elect. I doubt he's the one that will be actually running the country. Whether the person actually doing the running will be his wife or other policos that have power over him I just don't know. Enough though about politics. The next four years will be interesting but frustrating and frightening.
CJ I hope you're having a good day. Did you get your turkey breast out of the freezer. What all will you have with it?

Good morning and Happy Thanksgiving all. I am thankful for many things....even the trials that have been sent my way this year. Thankful for each of you here, for your friendship and support during this challenging year. Its nice to know that each of you is there and I do enjoy your friendship. Hope you can enjoy a good day and reflect on the blessings in your life.
Ruth, sounds like you were busy cooking yesterday!!! Glad that you enjoy those pickled eggs so much- never made them myself but I am one of those who does not like eggs.(yes, I know I am weird). Now cornbread is a different story!! I am sure you make yours from scratch (which is pretty easy to make). My Ds loves cornbread...just so nice straight out of the oven. I am sure that Dh is a happy man and very thankful that you are so talented in the kitchen ( and with a crochet hook too). That is good that you finished the shawl- yes sometimes its just nice to start another project to get a different view of what you are working on. Sounds like you started another pocket shawl- are you using the same pattern for this one??
Going for a walk with my girlfriend in Maryland in an hour....well I will be walking here in NY and chatting with her on the phone. She lost her husband 3 months ago- who would have thought many years ago when we were in high school that we would also share this journey together? I am a bit achy (already took an advil) as I got my second shingles shot yesterday.
I totally understand what Ruth mentioned about being tired of a project....but will say that the final trimming last night of the panel quilts convinced me that they are actually pretty and I am excited to finish them- tomorrow.
Take care.... Ginny

HAPPY THANKSGIVING TO YOU ALL Hope everyone is doing well today and enjoying the holiday and a good meal. The weather here turned out nice after some rain last night and this morning. It's in the high 60s and sunny right now. My turkey breast thawed out and I hope to get it in the oven soon and eat later this afternoon. I'm not having all my usual sides with it and didn't make a pumpkin pie this year. I kind of wish I had now, but it's too late and I can always make one later. Ginny - Hope you enjoyed your "walk" with your friend. I'm glad you have someone in your life who understands what you are going through. Ruth - Sounds like you had a busy cooking and baking day, I'm sure your DH will enjoy it and hopefully you made some things you enjoy too. Phyl - I hope the shot helps your pain. Sue - Hope you are doing well. Take care everyone!

Happy Thanksgiving to all. We're having a very quiet day, but it's been a quiet Thansgiving for many years, so it really isn't a change. That's been one of the downsides of not living near family, but we have scheduled our family time for warmer seasons in years without covid.
Ginny, I enjoy walks with my DD in NYC! That usually includes part of Central Park.
DGD is felling better. The first few days post surgery she was very uncomfortable.
We had a few inches of snow yesterday, but I don't think there's enough for my snowplow guy!
The paperwork is multiplying instead of decreasing. It shouldn't be that complex. This is for the CPA, sister stuff. Next up is for the attorney and the court, but it's largely completed. I think the papers get up and move around at night!
I am looking forward to picking a project, crafty, of course, and getting started in January!

Ginny, you said it so well so I will just say that I feel the same way. Who also knew years ago that we would be meeting people on a computer that would be so important to us. So Happy Thanksgiving everyone. May you all be truly blessed.
Ginny, yes some parts of our projects are just so tedious that we feel so relieved when we have that part done. I don't know if your son would like my cornbread or not. I make it with sour cream or plain yogurt so it's creamy instead of grainy as some could be.I also put it dices pickled jalapenos since we like our's spicy. But no, this time it was made from a mix then doctored with what I mentioned. Also in regards to friends, it's also great to have devices with which we can enjoy things like walks with friends at a distance.
CJ, it sounds as if your weather is really nice. It's cold here. ONly 36 but no wind so it feels warmer. I didn't make a pumpkin pie either nor custard. I didn't make it because I have no cool whip to put on it.
Sue I'm glad to hear your dgd is feeling better.Surgery of any kind is no fun. And you can keep that snow in Montana!

CJ- hope that turkey breast tasted wonderful....and its actually a good idea to spread out the sides over the week. Make the pumpkin pie another day!!! Gee your weather was warm....were you able to open the windows for a while??
Sue- glad to hear that DGD os spoke well. Paperwork just seems to do that, multiply while you are sleeping. And its overwhelming - and can be a bit depressing. By February it should all be over with and you can just put all the papers in folders, and box them up- hopefully to never have to open them again. Got any idea what kind of project you will pick out to start in January/
Ruth, I have 2 cornbread recipes....one that calls for sour cream or yogurt (Janes recipe and its wonderful) and the other is a knock off of Cracker Barrel corn bread. That recipe is quite something also. Ds likes all cornbread- both the recipes I usually use.
Thanksgiving went well. Busy but good. Everyone acted like adults. Glad its over with....and i hope to spend a day or so quietly at home- getting over this shingles shot and finishing cleaning up. Honestly, the house is in pretty good shape- just needs to be vacuumed.
Good night all Ginny

I do usually make it from scratch but dh saw some mixes for what he thought was a good price online so bought some. I try to make the ones that have no flour. Are either of yours flourless? I've never eaten at Cracker Barrel so haven't tasted theirs. That's one of the places we don't have here is a Cracker Barrel. Could you sometime send me Jane's recipe even if it does have flour?
I'm glad you had a good family get together and everyone acted as they should. Sometimes family gatherings can be quite a problem plus you have the added problem that this is yet another first for all of you
As I was working on my latest pocket shawl I realized that the yarn was going fast. Then I did what I should have done before I started which was to look and see how much yarn the pattern needed then check my yarn to make sure I had enough. I didn't or at least not enough that I cared to use it all on this pocket shawl when I don't even know if the person receiving it will ever use it or not so I switched to another pattern and another yarn and will do this one first then go back and make the one I set aside with a medium yarn and just adjust as needed.

Ruth,I will dig up Janes corn muffin recipe. She sent it to me once....made them for me the day that Dh passed. I was shocked as Jane and pastor were here within an hour of me finding Dh- they stayed with me through all the legal formalities (ambulance and police etc) and then left late morning. Within a short amount of time, she was back with a wonderful dinner and a batch of these killer muffins. I have not made a batch since then, but asked her for the recipe. both my daughters have made them since because the ones she made that day were so insanely good. They do have flour (as do the Cracker Barrel ones.) its a sweet recipe. I think that she emailed the recipe to me, and will send it along.
So glad that you figured out early on that you might not have enough yarn for the pocket shawl- unlike me (remember I went on a wild goose chase to finally find the yarn I needed!). What yarn/color did you switch to? I ended up buying yarn, and dreaded the concept of having to deal with a lot of leftover yarn. I did not have much leftover yarn, happy about that- as the reason I decided to make a pocket shawl was to use if leftover yarn.
Gotta vacuum today- the little ones (who I was SO glad to see) were a bit messy - not horrifically so- but I would like to vacuum. Also have to wash the kitchen floor- same thing- and after making a big meal like Thanksgiving, well washing the kitchen floor seems to be the right thing to do.
Its supposed to be in the 50’s today. Good day for a walk. Looking forward to getting back into my sewing room and working on the panel quilts. Ginny

Ginny, I would love to have the cornbread recipe, too. I love cornbread. I also like the idea of using sour cream or yoghurt to make is creamier. I don't know if that would make a difference for hb or not. At this stage, he will reject some foods without trying. I sometimes add creamed corn.
Which project? I may start more than one. I have several wall hangings that need fairly simple borders, then quilting , which I think I may do by hand because I have to limit my sewing time to about 20minutes at a stretch. Some finishing fork on a Christmas bookshelf quilt that need to be put together(a round robin project from more than ten years ago), my weaving ideas, several crochet and knitting plans, things that require thought and planning will need to be done in the morning when my mind is in better shape . Knitting or crochet can be done at anytime but are very well suited for evening when I have to sit and recline slightly.
One of my neighbors does beautiful long arm quilting, but I'm going to have to find someone else. I recently found out that she has some issues which have required some lengthy hospitalization. It's unclear what's going to happen. I have several tops that need quilting - by somebody else! Not me! Binding on several quilts and wall hangings.
Clearly, I need to figure out what I have and do some prioritizing! With added points for what I really want to do! I'm looking forward to February!

Phyl, I will write this pretty much to you and then go back and answer the others.. Ihave stopped and prayed for your Nancy and her family and will put them on my prayer list. My son was exposed at work but has not come down with the virus himself yet anyway. Also My youngest brother had a miniature pinscher. He brought the dog with him when he came to visit a few years back...twice. He was a really great dog. I'm not much of a pet person but I liked his dog. They're nice and small and yet their bark sound like a huge dog at least his did and that bark would scare anyone away....well until they saw how small the dog was. My brother had him for a long time...the dog (who's name was mini mutt) was his best friend. The dog died of old age just about a year ago

Will keep Nancy and her family in prayer.....at her age she should be fine, but its still a dangerous disease. thankfully they know much better now how to treat it than they did in the spring. Keep us posted how Nancy is doing.
Sue, you can send out those quilt tops to Missouri Star quilting- I hear they do a nice job. Other companies (there is a company in canada, think its called Sparrow quilting- that also offers a mail in service. Well it sure sounds like you have options of stuff to keep you out of trouble!!! Like you, I tend to crochet in the evening.... Why are you looking forward to February??
Ruth, hope that Ds is ok and that his exposure did not result in him getting sick.
Went for a nice walk with Jane. Feeling a bit tired and achy at the moment....know that by Sunday I should be feeling more like myself. Got the binding sewn and ironed for the panel quilt. Will start attaching tomorrow.

Hello Crafters Phyl - I will keep your DD in my prayers and hope she is better soon. I'm glad you were able to have some of your family with you for Thanksgiving. Sue - I'm glad you have some enjoyable projects to pick from, hope you can get to working on one soon. Ruth - I'm glad you were able to switch over to another pattern to use that yarn with. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get out for a walk. We've both been fortunate to have some really mild weather for November. I hope you feel better soon from the shot. You've really made quick work on those panels. It was mild here again today, but cloudy. I had enough turkey left over for a few meals today and maybe a sandwich tomorrow. I'm trying to decide if I want to somehow continue working on the Cozy Things quilt or if I need to just put it aside. I have ideas for it, but I don't feel like working on it. I don't see the point in working on something I'm not enjoying just to get it done, so I'll probably put it aside for later. I may even just put the fabric away and if I really want to make it later I could pull the fabric out. Take care everyone!

Ginny, thanks for the corn bread recipe. And how wonderful to have a friend who immediately comes to be with you in a crisis. It had to be very comforting to have her there. And then going home to make you and your family dinner for that day just added to how wonderful and caring she is.
And a messy house at the end of a holiday is a measure of what a great time everyone had.I'm so glad you had a good time with all.
CJ, sometimes it does get to a point where we need to set something aside because we're tired of working on it. I got a wonderful crochet pattern from a dear friend several years ago. She even sent me a swatch she made so that I could see what it looked like...sent all the way from Alaska. It's beautiful but it's a blanket in all single crochet in two colors with a drop stitch. All those singles got so tiresome that I set it aside and haven't got back to it. I did make two of them before that.
Sue it sounds like you have many projects to choose from. Sometimes I kick myself for crocheting late at night because that's when I make the majority of mistakes.
I did set aside that pocket shawl and the yarn too. I will make that pattern probably, in a different yarn. I'm working on a whole different pattern with other yarn which I've ripped out 5 times until I finally found what in her pattern was throwing me off. I think I got it now. When I started it yesterday I thought it would be really easy and that I would have most of it done by now but no. The bulky yarn I was using for the other will be set aside for now until I find something more appropriate for it.
