Good evening,
Phyl well, it does not sound like a bad day for you, just not the most thrilling, You got out for lunch at Mickey D’s. (I have not done that in over a year!) and browse HL. ( a fun shop to snoop around for sure). Think cases are going up in most areas of the country....honestly, I am not watching the number of cases all that much recently. Are you feeling good and comfortable? Nice that you have another quilt shop in town...which I hope opens up quickly while getting employees vaccinated.
CJ- yes its that time of year to get the oil changed.(think mine will be done next month). Just one of those details which are not necessarily fun but are necessary for sure. Bet it feels good do get your grocery shopping done too. Think on a smaller quilt I would also hand baste a quilt. The thought of hand basting a large quilt is overwhelming to me....for the falling charms quilt I did a combination of spray adhesive and safety pins. Don’t blame you one bit for stopping sorting blue scraps- if you found it irritating then it was a good thing to stop. (I would have done the same thing!!). Hope you have a relaxing evening and can do something that brings you joy, leaving you in a good mood.
My crafting today was finding a quilt shop for a friend who is moving from SC to FL. Its a long story, but I am trying to find something for her and her adult daughter to do....and quilting might just fit the bill. I suggested finding a fabric cafe 3 yard quilt or a beginner quilt class at a LQS. The LQS I found in FL sounds phenomimal- they deliver fabric to your house if desired. Wow. I did some yard work today, and am tired. Got plenty of exercise in today, that is for sure.
Think I am going to go Free motion for a little while, until the bobbin runs out. Then I have to wind some more- having used up all of the 5 bobbins I pre wound.
Have a good night all G

Well I did start to post here yesterday but that's when dh got up so I stopped to visit with him and forgot to come back. It was a dreary day yesterday adn is today too. We don't have many days here without sun but these two are a couple of them. It snowed during the night and is still snowing. We are supposed to possibly get up to six inches but I really doubt it as the flakes are very snow. I did love those few days of the fake spring we had and look forward to having real spring which we can't rely on really having until the last of May. I'd love for it to come sooner. For crating I only finished a hat I started probably a year ago.
Yes the fast food addict here has not been to any kind of restaurant including fast food for over a year either. I know I could go to the drive though but people have still handled the food and all the wrapping. Well not only that but I really don't need to be eating that unhealthy food anyway and I really don't miss it but that new chicken sandwich at McD's they advertise on tv does look good.
Yes Phyl does keep busy. Makes me tired just reading about all your activity, PHyl. We all have different interests.
CJ, yes I just had my oil changed a month ago and am glad to have that done. I have two other vehicles that both probably should have oil changes but have very low mileage since the last change but more than a year is up so I'll have to do that once the weather is better. I do like waiting in their service area waiting areas because I can sit and crochet and they all have nice areas for waiting. There wasn't anyone at all besides me in the waiting space last month and rarely is. At the Honda dealer there were more people but th4e space is large and distancing is very possible. Only thing about last month's experience is what I mentioned then...no masks.Of course now our governor has made using a mask in businesses voluntary.that was after the car dealer employees didn't use them.
I'm glad you got your needed groceries, CJ. It's always a tiring experience for me too.
Ginny, no yard work here yet.I hope you were able to get that drainage problem taken care of.

Well we had some rain here today, so the drainage issue is being resolved, but will be another day or so. Ruth, I am sorry you have had some dreary weather- and I have heard of snow in the upper mid west- I suppose that is where you live. Glad you were able to finish a hat- hey you got something finished!!! You finish lots of projects, but its good to get rid of even older projects.
Got a little bit done on the quilt. And I just broke a needle, so I will call it quits for the night. See ya in the am Ginny

Phyl, the butterfly fabric should be perfect. I do see that they are having a sale at Joann's in what they seem to be calling "the quilt corner"
Ginny, well after it stops raining there I hope that you'll see that the drainage issues have been solved. With rain, though, comes other issues such as it makes the grass and weeds grow so adds to the dreaded yard work. And sorry about the broken needle. I guess I'd better order some more needles for my machine. I have some extra needles but it's just like the bobbins I mentioned...I don't know if they'll be good for this machine. I did order more bobbins and can probably get needles from the same place if only I can remember what the name of the company is but I can look it up on my bank statement.
Well I'm working on other UFO's now too. They are both made with the made in a row Crystal Wave stitch. One is a baby blanket and the other is a blanket also but larger. It'll be for one of my grandchildren. It's a beautiful stitch and nice and soft and "squishy" and goes fast and you don't really need to keep track of what you're doing.
Have a great night everyone

Good morning !!
Ruth, that is great that you are working on the crystal waves blankets....it sounds like a great pattern , pretty, comfy, easy to do and goes quickly. Hope that you are enjoying working on the blankets. Some projects can be so frustrating that its more like work than fun. Thanks for posting the words to “count your blessings”. Its a lovely hymn- one that I fall back on if I find myself being too negative.
Phyl- glad you found that butterfly fabric!! Do you have other fabrics to coordinate with it so you can make the walkabout quilt! (See how CJ inspires us!!!). Probably good that you did not get that Robert Kaufman hanging....now you can work on the walkabout.
Not sure why I broke a needle....I broke a needle the other day also- and will have to look online for clues why I broke needles.
Off to work this am. Be home at 9. Ginny

Good afternoon...evening in the east.. I hope you all had and are continuing to have a good day.
It's still winter here. I don't know what next week will bring but it did snow all night and part of the day but it warmed up some and a lot of the snow is melting. I'm just sitting and crocheting on my Crystal Waves baby blanket. It does go pretty fast but I have a ways to go before it's finished. Then I'll finish the other Crystal Waves and in between work on finishing some little things I've started. It would be great to have them all completely done but I keep seeing new things I'd love to make. I need to discipline myself. My spring cleaning plan went on hold since it turned back to winter.

Ruth, I just checked out the crystal waves pattern on YouTube and it is so pretty! I can see why you want to make a lot of projects in it. And you know that’s what we all do we get started on a project and then we see you picture or something else it’s pretty and then we wanna make that too so we pick keep on yarn or we keep buying fabric and then we find out we’ve got more things lined up that we can possibly handle. But it keeps our minds fresh and it keeps us inspired. Sounds like you’ve still got your share of winter weather there. Which I hope passes Quickly. Here I’ve had three or four days of rain which has made my backyard look very muddy

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today. Sounds like everyone is busy and having lots of different weather. It's been cooler here and a bit windy, but no rain the last few days. I finished up going through all my blue scraps and trimmed them to 2.5 inch strips, 2.5 inch squares and 5 inch squares. Then I was able to sew my strip blocks from the smaller strips. I also made my whirly pinwheel blocks. I was really happy with the ones I've made so far this year, but the more I look at them, I'm not happy now. I think I'm going to add some star points around the block and see if I like them better that way. And I decided to add a house block each month. Pat Sloan had the pattern a few weeks ago and I tried it out and it's easy. Here's a link to her pattern and info about it: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2021/04/-free-sewalong-home-is-block-14.htmlFinally I did some machine quilting on a few small pieces. I tried free motion with one of them, and while I don't hate it, I don't like it. It's just too irritating bunching the quilt up in the throat area of the machine. I may try again on my larger machine because I can it sideways, and it also has a larger throat. I only did one small piece like that the other ones I used the walking foot. I've pulled out 4 more quilts I'd like to get machine quilted this month, so hopefully I can work on them. And I found a few patterns after looking through my pattern books, that I'd like to try. Hope you have a wonderful weekend

CJ- that sure is an adorable house block!!! I love it because of its simplicity. I have long wanted to make a house block quilt- this block might just inspire me to do that. Absolutely!!!!! Please try using your machine with the larger throat area for free motion work. Yes with a larger quilt you will have problems with the quilt bunching up in the throat area, but that predicament will exist even if you use the walking foot or the open toe foot. A big quilt is a big quilt and will be a challenge to quilt using a standard sewing machine. Have you ever priced out getting your own home long arm machine? (Yikes......$5,000 and up!). Good to hear that you got your momentum back to finish organizing those blue scraps. I think its a great idea to precut them as you did, and that is a lot of work. But now the job is done, and when you go to use those pieces (no longer scraps!) it will be easy. What plans do you have for the whirly pinwheel blocks? What quilt will they be a part of?
Think I have a cool and cloudy day today. I will get to the bank this am and the landscaper will finish the job this am. My backyard is still a mess but starting to come back to normal. Did some research on my needle woes...think I have it figured out and will change the needle when I get back from the bank.
Happy Saturday all Ginny

It does look as though that quilt block would be fairly easy to make and yes, it's strength is in it's simplicity. I know that some of the people that made videos of various small projects mentioned difficulty with the fabric bunching up when they tried to quilt using their home machines and those were small as I mentioned. I can't imagine trying to do a large quilt. It looks like it would be easy as I sit and look over at my machine with all the open space but then realize that the part that needs to be more open is the part between the needle and the upright part of the back of the machine.
Ginny, I hope that what you found about the needles breaking will be very helpful and the problem will be solved.

Well, today Dd stayed here longer to see Ds...who is traveling tomorrow. I am glad they had time to chat with each other. But I got nothing done on my quilt. Tomorrow is another day. Think I did get what I needed to accomplished at the bank this am. My yard is starting to look normal, and the workers will be back Monday to finish the job. Ginny

Ginny, I'm glad you got to visit your dd again today and am glad she was able to stay to see her brother before his trip. She is getting along in her pregnancy and must be tiring more easily now but she is young so maybe has more stamina than we think.I'm also glad that your yard is looking better. The guys must be pretty good at their job.
This morning I started making the blue aliens. It is dd's birthday today but I don't have her Baby yoda done let alone these blue guys. I probably won't be seeing her soon anyway so have lots of time but I do want to get those done.Have any of you seen the cartoon "strange Planet"? That's where the blue guys are from. DD posts the cartoon on FB and it is actually pretty cute the things they say to each other.
I also did some baking. I had sweet potatoes to bake and like to get full use out of my oven when it's on. I have to make some more rye bread maybe tomorrow. Also some homemade pizza. tomorrow too.

Ruth, like you I like to use the oven for more than one thing. If you are going to turn it on, you might as well take advantage of that and bake more than one thing. Sounds like you have mastered rye bread, and found a recipe that works for you. Do you like it with or without caraway seeds? Blue aliens sound adorable. And Happy Birthday to your Dd! I am sure you will share your birthday wishes with her, and I hope she has a nice birthday . She has a grandbaby on the way.....soon right? Guess I will check out the strange planet cartoon. I am not at all familiar with it.
For the back yard, I am waiting for grass seed to be planted and some repair to the black top. This project was not as easy as originally thought, but my contractor did persevere and all that remains is pretty easy.
Looks like my dishwasher finally stopped working for good. Gotta watch a youtube or two and read a blog or two to see if I can remove the old one. That way when I get another one and that is delivered, they will haul away this existing dishwasher. My guess is that this dishwasher is about 7-8 years old, so I will not attempt to spend the money to have it repaired. Its one of those low water use dishwashers, but does a horrible job washing dishes (always has). It will be nice to get a dishwasher that actually washes dishes.
Have a good day.....heading to church in a little while and otherwise looking forward to a peaceful day. G

Ginny my son and dil have a Bosch dishwasher and, as you know, they have 8 children so it gets a lot of use and it does a great job. Taking the old dishwasher out is quite a job. You have to disconnect water and power so it's tricky.
I've made rye bread but it didn't taste much like rye. I didn't have caraway seeds so couldn't use those and I forgot to buy any when we were at the store and also when we made our pickup order. I also made pumpernickle which did have more flavor so I'm not sure which I'll make. I think I'll try for a new recipe.
The so called weather experts say we might get up to 7 inches of snow tomorrow. We'll see. Today is a really nice day and will be in upper 50's before the major cooldown again...7th winter.
