Hello Phyl - Thanks for sharing that information from the quilt shop. I hope we don't end up with too many shortages. Ruth - I'm sorry the hot weather has been hard on you this year, I hope you can find a way to cool off part of your house to make it through the rest of the summer. Ginny - I'm glad you were able to start working on your binding. Hope your eye doctor appointment went well and that you can find your white fabric. You'd think buying white fabric is easy, but there are so many shades to it and designs on it and that makes it more difficult to match to other fabrics. I have the same issue when picking a cream colored fabric. It's cooler here today, but still humid. We had some strong storms last evening, but the worst stuff was a bit north of me. I was able to finish the quilt top this morning and I'm happy with how it came out. It's a very simple design, but I like the way it shows off the 2 fabrics and that is what I wanted. I've had the fireworks fabric for many years and I love the colors in it, but couldn't figure out how to use. I may pull some of my other fabrics that I have the same issue with and just make a series of Single Irish Chain quilts The quilt top finished at 46x64 inches, so it's a nice throw size. Picture below, with a close-up of the fabrics. Take care everyone!

Simple and Pretty CJ!!! The two fabrics were meant to be together and it makes for a very joyous quilt top. Nice job.

CJ, did you buy those fabrics as a pack or something or did you pick the non firework fabric out esp to go with the fireworks fabrics, because they definitely look as though they are meant to go together. You have such a great eye for picking fabrics!! And the design of the quilt is great too.And you're so right about whites either in fabric, yarn and many other things, whites can be completely different shades and have different subtle background designs that you have to be so careful choosing them.
Ginny, the a/c really only cools one bedroom and adjoining bath and part of the family room so upstairs where the kitchen, dining room and living room and another bedroom (aka my craft cave) are is always very hot in the summer. The other bedroom down here is hot too...it's dh's "man cave". Dh is always after me to drink more water but I was never much of a water drinker so I often forget. Thank you for caring and yes, that is a great thing that policeman did. Some people still really care about others.,

I met my new helper/caregiver, cleaner, etc. in town this morning. I really liked her and decided within minutes that I was going to hire her. She is young (23), enthusiastic and seems to have a good handle on her strengths and weaknesses. She is flexible about hours and will start on Monday. I need her more now so I can play catch up and perhaps get things back to what used to be normal. I am cautiously optimistic. If things go well, I know a dozen people looking for help. Her husband works during the week but can do repairs, lifting, etc. on the weekends. They are new to the area which concerns me a little, but I do know their rent was paid on time. They aren’t trying to play the system! Willing to work? That’s a real plus!
I like your fireworks quilt top, cj!
Hot, hot, and hot for the next ten days. Air quality is deteriorating.

Thanks everyone Ginny - You are right, it is just a happy quilt. It's amazing how many great fabrics are out there for us to use. Ruth - I've had the fireworks fabric for quite a while. I think I bought the orange fabric a few years ago at a quilt show to use for a different project. I was just lucky they went together. I'm sorry that you aren't able to get more of your house cool, I know how miserable it feels to be inside a hot house. Sue - I'm glad you've found someone to help you and your DH out, I hope she can start soon and make things easier for you. Sorry to hear you weather is so hot too.

Good morning all! Ruth - just wondering if you would consider getting a second air conditioner for your upstairs area? At least one so that whatever room you spend the most time in is cooler. Glad Dh is constantly reminding you to drink water. Its so important….I have to remind Jane to drink water also
Sue- that is an answer to prayer that you have found a new caregiver!!! I am so happy for you, and glad that you have found someone willing to work, and her husband sounds useful too. I really hope that they work out well for you as a couple and that they make your life easier. Also that this relationship lasts a long time. Finding good, reliable help is challenging.
CJ- that fireworks fabric looks like something that would be found at a quilt show…..I know they get lots of vendors who carry unique and wonderful fabrics. Do you have any plans to attend quilt shows - and this is your time of year to visit Amish markets right?? Near me, there will be an outdoor quilt show under a pavilion in the fall. A nice way to get back into normalcy with limited exposure.
Phyl- so what are you going to do with the 16 cents less that a July 4th barbecue will cost? (Ha ha ha). Think we saw the same program….the price of gas here is absurd and I cannot believe what I am paying for gas now. Anyway, I ran a bunch of errands yesterday and while in Walmart, grabbed a spool of brown thread. (Thanks for the heads up on making sure we are stocked up on staples). I am using brown thread to hand sew the binding on. And I love Don’s sense of humor. Think we all have enough fabric or yarn to last long past the middle of 2022…..
gonna bake a loaf of banana bread. Its cooler here this am, and I will not mind turning on the oven.
Take care all Ginny

Sue, yes, I too, am happy for you that you were able to find someone to help and do some chores around your house. So many people now won't work because they were receiving "free money"so why work. I think most states have done away with that now. It's refreshing to hear of a young couple who are willing to work
Yes now that the prices of gas and deisel has skyrocketed and will keep going up, the cost of everything will go way up and it will be a viscious circle. And with all the free things that the present administration is giving out and planning to give out our taxes will skyrocket also. There are no money trees growing in the White House rose garden.Someone has to pay and guess who. They didn't learn a thing when all those people refused to go back to work because of receiving handouts. Then there is the cost of supporting all those that come across the border illegally. I'm not trying to start a political conversation but there are people that don't realize how much all these "programs" are costing us as individuals who work or have worked.
Ok back to topic. I did get the last "soap on a rope" done Thurs evening. Dh saw it and liked it so I gave it to him then he asked if I could make one that had smaller openings. this one looks like a fishing net. So I made one with all dc and no chains in between and he loved that one so gave that one to him and then made 3 or 4 more. They will make good small gifts. I started one of my tote bags last evening but I'm not good at making the bottoms of bags in the round so had to tear it out a couple times. I'll work on it again today because it's just too hot to do much else.

Sounds like you have mastered those soap on a rope bags Ruth!!! You will do just fine getting those bags in the round done…..I am sure you can figure out the best way to make them. I wonder if there is a youtube to provide additional and special tips.
Got some binding done while Dd was here….got to see her and the baby.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Phyl - I think we all have a lot of crafting supplies to last us into 2022 and beyond Ginny - Hope you were able to get your banana bread made. I'm happy to hear you made some progress on the binding. Ruth - That's nice that your DH liked the soap on a rope crochet piece and wanted you to make one for him Sue - Hope things go well with hiring the new person. It's a beautiful day here, low humidity and a nice breeze and around 80 degrees. I have the windows open and I'm enjoying it since it's supposed to go into the 90s this coming week. I went outside earlier and cut some weeds out of a bush. It's so difficult to keep on top of those that grow up inside of a bush. I have one that is becoming a tree and really need it to get cut out of there, but it's going to need a saw to do it. Today was the first day for one of the quilt alongs I wanted to participate in but I had a lot of trouble coming up with a fabric selection for this mystery quilt. So as of right now I think I won't participate in this one. I have fabric picked for the other 2 that start this coming week, so I'll just stick with them. And I think that I might start on another Wiggle Time quilt, since I already have the fabrics picked for that. The new color for the monthly Rainbow Scrap Challenge is Navy Blues, Browns and Blacks. I've already done the blues, so I just need to pull the browns and blacks. I'm not sure if I'll make monthly blocks with these colors, but I will make the strip sets that I've been doing. I don't think I'm going to find a lot of scraps in these colors since I don't use them that much. I also did a bit of crochet today while I was watching videos on YouTube. I have 4 crochet projects that are in progress and have been laying around for literally a year or more. I'd sure love to get those finished. Hope all of you are having nice weather and getting to do some crafting. Take care!

CJ- so glad to hear that you were able to open the windows and air out the house!!! Enjoy the nice weather while you can. It was the mystery quilt that you were not able to decide upon the fabric for?? Have you made a mystery quilt before?/( I am tempted to someday). What crochet projects are you working on?? Gee I have a similar situation- a weed that is growing in my bushes. I am hoping that the electric hedge clipper will take care of it- but next week when its dry and not too hot.
Yes, I got the banana bread made this am, and some more hand sewing on the binding

It's hot today but I bit the bullet and cleaned up the kitchen...with my fan on. Helped dh with a few things and now am ready to sit and crochet or watch crochet videos.
Some people are really nice. I recently signed up for a newsletter for a crochet blog I just found out about. Usually when they offer a free pattern I don't take one because I have more than enough patterns already. Well when She welcomed me to her email list she showed some patterns so this time I chose one. All this was just a couple days ago. Then yesterday she sent an email offering a free pdf so I looked thru her patterns and found one I can use to make a toy dino for the younger grands and great grands. I told her though that I had just received a free one from her but that I did like the dino one. Well she wrote back and thanked me for my "kind" email and not only sent me that dino pattern but also two other patterns.

Ruth - I think you deserved a kind response (after a somewhat difficult experience with the cardi shawl designer) and am so happy to hear that you got several patterns from her!! You must have written quite a nice email to her and she figured out that you are a serious crochetter. Who will you be making the dinosaur for?? Hope its a great pattern and easy to follow.
Gonna watch some baseball (only because its a subway series) and work on the binding.
Monday follows Sunday….. ginny

Yes this designer seems very nice and even mentioned in the email that if I had any problem with a pattern to just let her know and she would be happy to help.I'll be making the dinos for the youngest boys in the family, even for the one month old one. He can play with it when he's a little older. So mainly for grands who are 6 and 3 and great grands who are both 4. Maybe the girls would even like them.
Ginny, relaxing and watching a sporting event that you enjoy while doing some sewing sounds very nice.
I hope you all had a nice day. tomorrow is a holiday so won't be going out to banks or postoffice but I will do my online bill paying.
