Ginny, when you change colors do you cut the yarn and leave ends or do you carry the unused color up the sides? And when you do cut and join a new yarn do you tie it or just weave the ends in a lot to keep it intact? The so called experts claim you should never, ever knot in crochet or knitting. Well if something is going to be tossed around a lot I definitely knot then also weave. I don't trust that the yarn is going to stay in place without knots. They have a couple "magic" ways of knotting now...Russian join and magic knot but I don't trust either one. In my current blanket I'm cutting and leaving ends because in granny stitches there is no way to crochet over do that that yarn doesn't show. Some I tie right when I'm changing color and some I leave and tie before weaving the ends in. Sometimes, too, you can't carry the yarn up the side. When you're stitch pattern is a very open one, even a border is not going to cover it adequately.
I did get a few rows done last evening.I think it's going to be probably Monday before I have this done.

Ruth, that is exactly what I did- I carried the yarn up with me into the next color….but honestly in the past have tied a knot (which I did not do and should have). of course had I tied a knot this would not have happened….
Got no chance to craft today…ended up watching DGS#3 a lot (the little baby). See ya tomorrow Ginny

Good Morning!!! Gonna make it a priority to get some crocheting time or embroidery time in today…..looking at the calendar, babysitting duties start up for me again in a little over a week, so I want to feel like I got some relaxing crafting in before that time. Will stop back in later to see who checks in. Ginny

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well and having nice weather Also hope you get to do some crafting. It's been a muggy week here and wet early in the week, but yesterday was drier than they had said it would be. Guess it's typical summer weather. I finished the bed runner quilt top using the fabrics based on the George Seurat painting "Sunday on La Grande Jatte: www.artic.edu/artworks/27992/a-sunday-on-la-grande-jatte-1884I wrote a paper on this artists when I was taking Art History in college - I was going to major in Art History, one of my many choices - I never ended up majoring in anything I don't particularly love this painting, but I find his style of work fascinating. That he used small points/dots of paints to create his paintings is just amazing. My bed/sofa runner finished at 16x68. I probably could have done more quilting on it, but I just kept it light. The quilt has the main print from the painting in the center, and on each end there are coordinating fabrics. These pictures show the center section and one of the ends. I tried something different with the binding this time. I cut my strips at 2 1/4 inches instead of 2 1/2 inches. I think it worked just as well for the method I use to attach the binding, but you do have to be careful it covers up the stitching on the back. Take care everyone!

Phyl, how awesome that Hannah is corn queen!!! Sounds like quite an honor - especially that she was also Miss Poppy!! Glad you do not have to go back on amlodipine. That is what my doctor has had me on to keep my BP in check. If you have been out so much, then its not a problem to stay home for Sew Saturday. There will be others…..
CJ- so in my limited - super limited- art history knowledge Seurat was an impressionist painter?? I think. Anyway, so now that explains your wonderful artistic eye with fabrics. You did a great job putting it together, and I like the quilting further apart on that particular quilt. How are you attaching the quilt binding these days?? You mentioned using a smaller binding 2 1/4 inches….sorry I ask a lot of questions.
Yes, its been humid. A cold front would be lovely. Got some embroidery done today. Think I will get back to crochet tomorrow.
Ruth, hope you had a good day.
Sue, have you had any time to craft recently? Ginny

I don't care a lot about the painting either but in your quilt it does look great. I especially like the fabrics you used around it. That's what I'm afraid of already...that I wouldn't catch the binding on the back with my stitching.
Phyl, it does sound like you're feeling better. And congratulations to Hannah on being the queen of the parade again.
Ginny, I hope you had a good day also. Did you get in the crocheting or embroidery that you hoped for. I can't believe that it's only a little over a week when you will be back to babysitting.
It was very cool here today. Saturday it will be back to 80's but today was only in high 60's
I haven't crocheted yet today. I did a little organizing of my crochet things such as hooks and the needles I use to weave in and made homemade mac and cheese. I organized because I was looking for my large eye sewing needles because I want to sew some yarn on a zipper so that I can crochet small bags such as make up bags and coin purses. I didn't find the needles though so will have to wait till I do find them or else get the yarn on the zipper another way.

Ruth, I have never sewn yarn on a zipper….had do idea that was how you would add a zipper to a bag or garment. Did you ever find the large eye needles you were looking for?? Hope you were able to find them….or figure out another way to attach the yarn to the zippers. Stay comfortable!!! Did you ever finish the afghan you were working on??
I figure I should be able to get some crocheting or crewel in today. There is rain forecasted this weekend so I guess I better get a walk in this am. Ginny

There are several ways to add a zipper to knit or crochet items but this one seems like an all around easy way so that's why I wanted to try it. I didn't find the needles so I ordered some but they will take awhile to get here. I'm going to look up a different way to attach the yarn. Most methods involve poking holes in the zipper with a small crochet hook.
It's cold here today and it does look like rain here too. I have to go out to pickup a grocery order so hopefully it doesn't rain while I'm out. I don't want the employees to get soaked bringing my order to my car plus I can't see well in the rain.
Last night I only got a couple rows done on the blanket so will have to work on it more this evening.

Hello Everyone Thanks all for your comments on my quilt, it was fun to use those fabrics. Phyl - Congratulations to Hannah, how neat to be a queen at the festival. I'm glad your medical appointment went well. Ginny - Hope you won't be affected by the hurricane coming up the coast this weekend. Seurat was a Neo-Impressionist and was part of the Pointillism style of painting. I'm still attaching my binding the same way - to the front and then pulling to the back - then stitching it down from the front. I just have a smaller amount of fabric on the back now. I'm not sure if I'll stay with 2 1/4 inches - maybe for smaller pieces. I think the 2.5 inches would probably be more secure for a larger quilt. Ruth - Hope you can find a needle to work with attaching the zipper. Sorry to hear you have a cold and rainy day, hope it stops when you are getting your order and getting it in your house. Sue - Hope you are doing well. We had some heavy rain here this morning and then this afternoon it's sunny. I sure hope that doesn't cause anymore storms. I finished making Block #7 for the Pat Sloan quilt along this morning and I went ahead and redid Block #1 since I can tell I'll have enough of the fabrics for the last 5 blocks. I needed to redo that one since I used a fabric in it that I didn't use in the others and also since I trimmed it too small. I won't trim any of the blocks now until all 12 are done so I can make sure they are the same size. I see there is another mystery Quilt/Stitch Along being done by the Fat Quarter Shop. I really enjoy doing these, but the problem is always the fabric selection. I sure wish they would have one and show fabrics that I just love - but that rarely happens. I know their goal is to get people to buy the fabric lines they highlight, but most of them are just not my style. Here's some information on it: blog.fatquartershop.com/mystery-all-the-trimmings-quilt-and-stitch-along/And Pat Sloan is doing another quilt along starting in October that has patterns from her book that came out this year. The book has patterns that cover all the yearly holidays. I probably will try to participate in this one, using my own fabrics. She has the option to order her book for the Kindle and that's what I'll do. I just don't need anymore hard copy books in my house, so I'm glad she has that option. www.ilovetomakequilts.com/happy-everything-sampler-from-my-holiday-book.htmlTake care everyone!

Good evening all!
Ruth, well now that you’ve ordered new needles, you know you’ll find the ones that you cannot locate. I think I would’ve used a large I needle instead of a small crochet hook as you were suggesting. Hope you were able to stay nice and dry picking up your grocery order, and that everything was perfect. I know a friend of mine at home still doesn’t going to food stores, and she does the shop from home option.
CJ, the quilt is absolutely beautiful and I really love the combination of the green yellow and blue that you used. It’s very very pretty. I did check out that quilt along, and completely agree with you on your fabric selection. I think most of the dominant fabrics that they are suggesting I would not use, but some of the other fabrics look like they would be kind of pretty with the right feature fabric. Looks like we’re both possibly going to see some impact from this tropical storm/hurricane. And me probably more than you. But I think you got rain last week from one of the other tropical systems. I think we are both looking forward to fall weather.
Didn’t get as much done today as I wanted to, and now I’m trying to keep an eye on the weather. I’m sure I’ll have rain and wind, I just hope it’s not too severe.
Have a good night,
Ginny

I was hoping that once I ordered new one the old would show up but that didn't happen so I probably will just wait until the new ones arrive...well at that time the old will probably show up. But, hey, you can never have too many needles.
I hope neither of you has weather that is terrible. I'll be praying for everyone to be safe
CJ, another beautiful quilt. You definitely have a knack for putting patterns and colors together.
Since picking up the groceries I've been busy cooking and baking. Since it was cool today I made dh his birthday carrot cake just one week late. I also made a bunch of other things including chicken soup. I may have to send it to both of you if your weather is bad so that it will warm you up.
Needless to say I haven't done any crocheting today at all yet.
Oh and the pickup was great. The young man who brought the things to my car (he was 40 he said...just out of the blue) was very nice and very chatty. He talked about how they went for 3 months without having to use masks but now that this is considered a "hot spot" (which I don't really believe it is) they now have to wear them again and had them on last week also. It sounded like he said that Walmart is mandating that all their employees get the vaccine or lose their jobs. He didn't like the idea of having to get the vaccine. One nice thing is, again, they were out of a couple things I ordered so they substituted a much higher price version at the same price of the one I ordered. That happened on three items including lighters that dh wanted. The ones they subbed were $5/pack where the ones he ordered were only $2. plus their math must not be good because instead of sending two packs of the Bics they subbed they sent 3. Same with oatmeal and sugar. I ordered Great Value, they gave me Quaker and C&H premium. I had ordered 6 large canisters of oatmeal so got six of Quaker, again at the same price as Great Value. I eat a lot of oatmeal

We had almost a full day of rain, adding up to an inch. Slow, even gentle rain. It was delightful. Today the clouds cleared, and the sky was blue. Delightful air for breathing.
CJ I love the colors of the quilt blocks!
Worked on the laundry room this afternoon. Now that the dryer is working, I need to do a whole lot of laundry. Having a helper is a lot of work. She sees the doctor on Monday. I’m afraid to ask her to do anything! She is eight weeks pregnant, probably very high risk. I am concerned that she’s having episodes of cramping. Her mornings are miserable because of nausea. Last Saturday she wound up in the ER with an IV.
