Good morning…..Henri is gone and left us with a ton of rain. Got some water on the ground floor, but nothing catastrophic. I wish we were going to have some low humidity days to help things dry out….so I will have to rely on fans and a dehumidifier to do that for me. It could have been much worse.
Ruth, knowing what a prolific crocheter you are - you will catch up on the 7 hats in no time. Congrats on getting the border done on the afghan. What is next on your project list???
Got a little bit of embroidery done last night….knowing that I have to rip out a few rows of crochet, I am a bit reluctant to go back to that. So embroidery is a pleasant change.
Gotta go back to the downstairs water issue. G

Good morning and happy new week to all
Ginny, I'm sorry to hear that you have water inside your house from rain. I hope you won't find that anything was damaged. No you just misunderstood. I probably wasn't clear in my babbling. I finally finished the sides not the border. Now I have the top and bottom yet to do then will be the border so I have a couple, if not a few, days work on it left. I'll do another blanket next but have a couple small projects to do as well. The last couple days I've been working on the blanket upstairs and when I go downstairs for the evening I have worked on the smaller things. It's a couple small things to add to the gifts for dgd who celebrated her 10th bday yesterday.Yes ripping out rows is not a fun thing to do. It's frustrating and definitely makes a person want to set the project aside temporarily

Really the downstairs issue was/is not terrible. With fans running and the dehumidifier on its pretty dry now-all the wet carpet tiles are outside in the sun- so just waiting for them to dry. Gonna vacuum the floor and bleach it….let it dry and hope that Wednesday I can put it back together. The good part of all this is that I have gotten rid of a few things that needed to be discarded anyway. Trying to find a positive in this inconvenient situation.
Ruth, its an interesting assembly process for that afghan…I never put an afghan together like that. You will be finished with it very soon and I hope are happy with the results. Its always nice to have a few projects going at once to alleviate boredom or frustration. Maybe tonight I will return to crocheting. And I misinterpret stuff all the time, or perhaps its that I do not read carefully enough.

Hello Ginny - Sorry to hear about your water issues and I'm glad it's not too bad, hope you can get everything back in order soon. I'm glad you were able to get away and hope you had a good time. I've been across the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel and it's really neat. It's the regular Bay Bridge that I don't plan to ever go over again, that one scares me too much! I understand about not mentioning being away from home. I pretty much don't even mention on message boards when I go to the store anymore, even after the fact. You just never know who is reading. Ruth - I'm glad to hear you've finished the sides of the afghan, hope the top and bottom go well. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are doing well. It's hot and sunny here today, and the temps will be in the 90s all week, but I don't think we'll have rain till the end of the week. I'll take the heat over the rain. I did some hand quilting today. It's really not the best time of year to do that since the quilt laying over my lap gets really warm. But I want to get this sampler finished as soon as possible. I also tried to do some machine applique on a wall hanging I've had laying around for years just waiting to do this. But I didn't like how it looked, so I guess I'm going to have to applique it by hand. This is another really old project - it's an Irish Chain quilt and I made some shamrocks to applique in the alternating blocks. If I can get this one and the sampler done by the end of the year I'll be happy. It's just nice to get old projects done. Take care!

CJ- you are taking on something I never really loved doing, Machine applique. I do remember you mentioning the irish chain quilt and the shamrocks. Bet it will look so pretty when you are done with it. Your area has had a lot of rain, so I do not blame you for not wanting more. (You can have some of my rain!!!). Nice that you are taking on an old project, older projects do give a special sense of accomplishment. Hope you can stay comfortable through the week….and that cooler temps are around the corner for you.
Got the room cleaned up a bit….and am now waiting for the carpet tiles to finish drying. I did work on the afghan a bit, and got the stitches ripped out and am starting to rebuild. Then Jane called….so I did not get much done. And yes, I will no longer mention when I will not be home- until after the fact. I am convinced that the episode that happened at my house was because the thief followed the delivery truck (as it took place within 15 min). But still better safe than sorry.
Have a good night all. I am a bit sore from all the bending and twisting to work on cleaning up the room that got wet.
Hi to Ruth, Phyl and Sue. Ginny

No it sure is not a good thing to post personal info on a public message board and that includes when you will be away from your house. You can't even have a regular shopping day or anything else like that which would give people an idea of when your house is likely to be empty. Ginny, I'm glad you got to get away for a vacation before going back to work and baby sitting. Well, of course your work is not a regular thing either so no one would know you were gone then either.
CJ, I bet your machine appliques is very pretty and much better than you are thinking it is. Now I know any machine applique that I tried to do wouldn't be good since I can't even seen to sew a straight line properly.
A question I have is, if you join the snowman QAL she sends you instructions or part of the pattern each week I'm guessing so at the end are the ones she sends in a form that you can keep them after the QAL is over. I don't think I'm going to have time to try it but I did join and I would love to be able to try it when I get my crochet projects cleared up.

Wish I could answer your question Ruth- but i have done such a big cleanout of my email in the past day that I forgot to check for the snowman QAL. CJ has completed these before, so I am sure she would be able to answer your question. And yes, CJ does beautiful work……and I figure she is really hard on herself and her applique work looks lovely.

She did send out an email today and reminded everyone that you have to make sure to download the pattern each time it's sent because saving email alone will not workbecause the links will expire. So my question is answered. Thank you
I'm glad you were able to find a positive in your cleaning up of the water. I has to be hard trying to dry carpet tiles in such a humid environment.

Hello Ruth - I'm glad you got your question answered. It is nice to download the patterns and have them for later if you want. That's what I do with the Pat Sloan patterns for her quilt alongs that I participate in. She has a great option where she shows you how to just use one of the blocks to make a full size quilt - that comes in her pattern each week. Ginny - I hope you got everything done with the water problem and that you're feeling less sore today. I was really serious when I said that the machine applique I did looked terrible. I ripped it out so I wouldn't ruin my quilt top or the shamrock piece. I don't like machine applique and I've only done one piece that way since it was for a class. But have done some hand applique and that's what I'll do with the shamrocks. I've found there are some parts/types of quilting that I really don't like and don't have a skill for - machine quilting and machine applique are 2 of them. I've given them both several chances and each time I was not satisfied with the results so I need to stay away from them. Fortunately there are lots of other parts to quilting that I do like I made that blue and white Fat Quarter Fancy quilt back in July I think and I had 72 extra half square triangles left from it. I've found a pattern I want to use them for, so I pressed them this morning and trimmed off the dog ears. Now I just need to pick another blue fabric to make the alternating blocks for this pattern and I can work on that. It's hot and sunny here again and looks to be that way the rest of the week. Hope you all of having some nice weather and get to do some crafting. Take care!

CJ, that's a good find in finding those leftover fat quarter half triangle squares. Now that you have those dog ears off and them all pressed you're all set to make another of your beautiful quilt tops.
Well I finally called Directv to cancel. We finished watching all we wanted to watch of our recorded programs. So I went through the whole rigamorole and then offering to downgrade my package etc. She also told me she had a wonderful deal for me and my bill would "only" be $106/month. Right now I only pay $104 so that was no deal at all. I forgot to look at my phone to see how long I had to talk before my account was finally cancelled as I asked.
Worked on the blanket again and almost have the bottom part done so all I'll have left is the border which is only one round and then all the end weaving. This blanket turned out very large. I guess I shouldn't have increased the number of sections but the designer said her video was for a lapghan size. I haven't actually measured mine yet but I think it would take up a large part of my cal king bed.
Ok back to work

Good evening!! Ruth, that is a large blanket you are making…do you have to mail this one??(costly to mail!!!). I feel for you . All the end weaving is not fun….and it does seem as though you are getting near the end. Congrats on succeeding on cancelling direct tv. No they did not offer you a bargain at all. Wonder what they were thinking? Will you and Dh watch internet based television now?
CJ- I am not a fan of machine applique either. Oh it looks pretty when someone does it that is good at it, but that someone is not me. I hope you enjoy the hand applique process. As you like hand quilting, perhaps you will like that too.
Got about half way done putting downstairs back together, and the rest will take place tomorrow. A lot of the carpet tiles are totally dry, and I have cleaned up and am getting stuff put away. I did contact a waterproofing contractor who will be here Friday. I am looking forward to getting a lot if input from different contractors before I decide what I am going to do.
Think I will crochet awhile. Oh! dd#1 wants me to make some masks for her….so I got the fabric out for that (and in doing so got some crafting in already). She said she figured I have spare fabric. Ha ha ha….I have a LOT of spare fabric!! Ginny

Ginny, you have spare fabric? I'm glad to hear you have the room almost back together and will look into contractors to do some waterproofing. When we lived in NY we had basement flooding 3 different times. Luckily we didn't keep much down there.I was going to make masks but then dh ordered some online then we stapled (ok, he stapled) medical masks inside them. They had strings and he didn't like strings so he wanted a different way to use them Well I was planning on mailing this blanket but it's become so heavy that I think I will have to take it whenever we go to visit. So I guess I didn't have to do it so soon since we won't be going anywhere for awhile. I'll have to make her a couple other small things to send. one of my aunts did a lot of sewing. She never quilted until she was older then did a couple applique quilts and did a good job machine applique -ing if that's a word. I wish I had inherited her talent. She could look at something and without a pattern she would make it. When I was in Jr High she made some dresses for me (Couldn't wear jeans or other pants to school back then in the dark ages) and she made a lot of her own clothes. She was a hefty woman and couldn't find clothing that she liked in the stores so she made her own.One time she was visiting us and I guess got bored so she got out my mother's sewing machine (my mother didn't sew but had her mother's machine) then she took some old things that weren't being used anymore and made outfits for my baby sister and her own baby who was about that same age. They were so cute. Oh and I have to call some people also to have them check on my leach field. Sump pump is filling up again already. We put a lot of stuff in it that was supposed to clean the septic and the field but it evidentally didn't work. We've been very careful with putting water down the drains and it's been a real pain in the neck.

Good morning!
I hope you’re able to get some good answers on the problem with your Leach field, Ruth. I know you struggled with that last month, and you were concerned that you were perhaps not getting the right answer. As I am seeing with my water proofing issues, I think that dealing with a leach field is a specialty. Hope you can find someone who knows what they are doing and can remedy your situation without too much expense. Love the story of your aunt. The women of years ago really could make something out of nothing….well heck, that is how quilting came about right? My mom had a bit of that in her too- I well remember her taking me shopping for formal gowns in HS and saying that all the stores sold was junk and that she could make something better. Yes, sounds like that heavy blanket is probably best delivered by hand, unless DGS decides to come to visit with you and Dh. Guess you have not seen him since he moved overseas. Bet the whole family is so thankful that he is back here now.
Did some online searching for aluminum strips for masks…..Michaels has some in the store (do not need a hundred like Amazon sells) Think this weekend I might get there to pick the nose clips up so I can make masks for Dd. Yes, I have some fabric….ha ha ha. I had picked up some pretty fat quarters at Joanns over the past few years, and well, was kind of shocked to see I had so many. When I see Dd I will share with her my “selection” and let her pick which ones she wants for masks. I did find another pattern which I will use. Its a more tapered mask, actually kind of pretty but will need a nose clip.
At least for this am, its cool out there. Good to see…..Gonna go for a short walk sometime this am and then get busy finishing putting the basement back together. Really not much more work to do.

Good morning Ginny and all who stop in later.
Right after Labor Day we will call some people to give us their opinions on the septic system and estimates on fixing. I'd say the whole field needs to be replaced. It was put in when the house was built and that was 41 years ago. If that's the case it will be a huge expense.
Got my email from Directv on returning the components. All they mentioned was the three boxes. One of ours hasn't worked for almost two years now so I hope they're not going to try to charge me. They should be thanking me for not having made them send someone to fix it. I would think they also would want the remotes returned but they didn't mention them. I sure don't want to keep them because I already have very large collection of remotes. I have no clue as to why dh keeps holding on to them.I do hope there are more instructions with the packing materials the're sending.I was hoping that they would choose to have me take the parts to FedEX as they say that's one of the options but they do the choosing not the customer. There you just take everything and it's all packed at FedEx.
Ginny, I don't know anything about internet tv. I'll have to look into that but I don't have a smart tv.Old joke but guess mine are all dumb tv's.I guess you have to buy some device to enable you to receive the internet tv signals?
Last evening I spent some time weaving in ends and have a lot to go.Then I'll put on the border and will be done
When I made the couple masks I did make I used pipe cleaners for the nose piece. Ends folded over to keep the sharp ends from cominng through the fabric. It worked pretty well and fit nicely over the bridge of the nose. The metal pieces, I'm sure, will be better though.
