Hello Everyone Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well. Ruth - I'm sorry to hear about your DH's fall, I hope he is doing better today. I also hope the appointment with the new company tomorrow will solve/help your septic problems. The housewarming gifts sound really cute. Ginny - I hope you don't get all the rain we've got today, fortunately there hasn't been much wind so far around me. There was a tornado northeast of where I live with some damage. I'm glad your trainee passed their test - I'm sure you are a good trainer That lady on the video does sound kind of irritating. I don't think I've ever watch a tutorial type video where the person was talking with someone else while trying to film! We have gotten a lot of rain here but I don't know how much because the batteries in my weather station are dead again. I'd like to get a step ladder out and change them, but I'm afraid I'll fall and get hurt. I'm happy for September to be here, hopefully only another month and I can put away the air conditioners for the year again. I made some cole slaw today and had it with some pork BBQ. It was good, I haven't had something like that for a long time. Lots of calories though, so I can't have it too often. I finished the new Block 9 of the Summer Soiree quilt along this morning. I'm glad to have it done on the first day. I'll put a picture of all 9 of my blocks below. I also sewed together some triangle pieces of fabric that I found when cleaning out that tote. After I finished them I realized I sewed them together wrong There are only 8 of them so I think I will rip them apart and sew them again correctly. They are for an Ohio Star quilt block. Hope you all are O.K. from your weather and that you get to do some crafting. Take care

CJ, good to hear from you and I’m glad that you are OK. Sounds like you got a lot of rain also. I don’t blame you for ripping out the pieces on that Ohio star block, because it supposed to look a certain way and your eye will always notice that it’s not quite right. No one else will notice, but you always will. I like the nine Blue and yellow blocks that you show in the picture. It’s so pretty! Do you think that’ll be the actual layout for that quilt? Is there Sashing that goes in between the blocks or will it be assembled as is. The blue and yellow combination is so pretty and there’s enough bright and dark fabrics in the blocks to make it very interesting. Coleslaw on top of pulled pork or barbecue pork is so delicious! Yes it’s high in calories but you have to splurge once in a while.
It’s raining hard here right now, I shut my window and put on the fan which hopefully drowns out the sound of the heavy rain and the wind. I will be happy when this storm is over with, and Lord willing everything’s OK.

Got some crocheting done last night….before the flooding rain began. Got another 6 inches of rain, which the ground could not hold. Thankfully Ds is home and while we have a lot to dry out, most of the wet stuff is outside already. Should be able to put things back Friday.

Hello Ginny - I'm sorry to hear you have water problems again, but I'm glad your DS is home and can help you work on drying things out. I hope once this is done you'll be able to get those companies in for estimates on how to fix the problem. We must have really needed rain in my area because it all went in the ground and I didn't see any puddling of water where it usually is. Ruth - I hope you are well and your DH is alright, please check in an let us know. The quilt for Pat Sloan's Summer Soiree does have sashing around each block and then more sashing between the sashing around each block. I'm planning to use a blue fabric for the first sashing and a yellow print for the second one. I finished making the two blocks that I had leftover from those old quilt alongs. I wish I had more of the one with the fabric from the Ohio star - I love that beigy/cream fabric with the wildflowers on it. I'll post a picture of the blocks below. It's beautiful here today - sunny, in the 70s and a nice breeze. I'm happy to be able to open the windows. Take care everyone!

Ginny, I'm so sorry that you had to do this drying of flood waters again! Wish I could be there to help but I'm glad your ds was there. Taking out wet things, leaving them to dry and then having to put them all back again has got to be discouraging.
CJ, those blocks are beautiful and I do love the yellows and blues on the one you posted yesterday.
Well the septic person was here and while he gave us a little hopeful answer, we don't think he's right in what he said. I hope he is because that is the least costly thing even though he said it would cost about $1000 but replacing the drain field would be around $10K or more.Dh, of course is a basket case and I'm ready to pull all my hair out. He's driving me crazy. I go by the "what will be will be" philosophy and it used to be just the opposite.I was always the one panicing.
Yesterday dh told me he thought that I should inventory all my yarn so that I would know what I have and how much of each and what colors. Great Idea but time consuming. I did some last evening and some this morning. Counted 179 skeins of yarn and that's just a very ,very small fraction of what I have. I did find, though that I had some yarn I didn't even realize I had. I keep seeing patterns now that use very fine yarn...#1 weight, and fine which is #2 weight. I thought I didn't have any. I do have just a small amount but I'm glad I have it. And I found that I have more #3 weight than I thought.

Ruth, is there another contractor so you can get another estimate? I know there is the one contractor that you do not trust. Just wondering if a third opinion might be helpful and shed some light on the problem. My Dh was rather like your Dh and would pull his hair out over stuff- home repairs. Sometimes, its just best to let a competent professional make the repair for once and or all. Of course that can be expensive too….I hope that you might be able to find something that works and does not break the bank. Its a struggle, I know. I wonder if you went with the $1000 repair and if that did not work, if they would give you credit toward replacing the drain field. What a great idea to inventory your yarn and I am glad you found some surprises in there!! Nice- and now you can search for projects to use that yarn in.
CJ- both blocks are so pretty!!! The cream wildflower fabric is awfully pretty, you have probably had it so long that you do not remember where you got it or its no longer available. I wonder if there is a web site for out of production fabrics?? I like you plans for the sashing around the summer soirée blocks, its going to be a very very pretty quilt!!! And its so nice to be able to open the windows and let in cool air!! Gotta enjoy these days…and hope that these cooler days last for a long time before winter sets in.
I worked all day today (am and pm). It was a very disorganized day for the first day of school. Tough to work, but good for my wallet. We are starting to restore some areas that got wet. I should be able to put most areas back together tomorrow. after such a wet and violent storm, its so nice to have cool sunny weather.
Phyl and Sue, hope you are doing well Ginny

That's a lot of working in one day considering that you retired .Also that you had all that work at home cleaning up flood damage. I'm glad you were able to put some things back in place. It's great that you could get in some crocheting last evening before the storm hit. I saw on tv that your area was right in the red zone. CJ, I'm glad that the rain in your area was absorbed by the ground so that there was no flooding esp at your home. I saw the news yesterday about the tornado and am glad it wasn't close to you. The contracter we're probably going to go with is a company that the man that was here today mentioned and them the neighbor recommended. This company does it all so they can inspect to see what the problem actually is and then they can repair it if we want them to. The company that sent someone today, although they say on their online site that they do all those things apparently either doesn't do them or the man that came was not well informed. It's another company that we had problems with before even though we didn't realize it at the time. The young man who came to pump the tank noticed dirt in the tank and a piece of concrete. He apparently wasn't well enough trained because he didn't advise us that that could be a sign that our tank was falling apart. We found that out only after we ended up with a big sinkhole in our backyard. Ok, enough of my concerns. We all have concerns and mine at least are things no people with issues. Oh and thanks for the kind thoughts about my dh's foot. It was a lot better yesterday but now, today it's swollen. I told him I'll take him to the ortho walk in clinic tomorrow but he said he's not going anywhere. Ok, we'll see. Have a good night all and get some rest.

Ruth Ugh…..so frustrating when a spouse does not cooperate and will not seek medical attention. Insanely frustrating for sure. Nice that you are going to most likely use a company who does it all- and can take care of whatever issues that they encounter while attempting to repair.
On the same route today and it did go a bit better. Its Friday….very thankful for that and a 4 day weekend so I do not have to babysit until the middle of next week. Think Ds and I am having chinese tonight. Still have some water seeping in one area, which makes no sense. But its drying….and I should be able to have most everything back together tomorrow.
Think I might make another mask or two…I am tired of the old masks I have.

Hello Ruth - I hope you can get a good company to do the work for you. It's so frustrating dealing with these businesses. I know I've had my share of irritation from them. I hope your DH's foot is better today and if not that he'll let you take him in for someone to check it out. I hope you enjoyed going through your yarn and it is nice when we find something we forgot we had Ginny - I'm glad you survived the first day of school and that you made some money, even though it was frustrating - at least today sounded better and you have the weekend off. I'm glad you are almost done with the water problem and hope you can get everything put back in place this weekend. It's another sunny, pretty day here with temps in the 70s. It's been nice to have the windows open for a change. I found a Fall/Autumn quilt that I'm going to make. I'm using Fall/Autumn types of fabrics, instead of what is shown in the pictures of this quilt (link below). I'm not going to do the quilt along, I just liked the pattern so I bought it and I'll make it on my own. I pulled out some fabrics today that I think will work and hope to get started on this soon. www.gigisthimble.com/2021/08/autumn-glow-quilt-along.htmlHope you all get to do some crafting and that you have a good weekend. Ginny,' I'm glad that you had a better, more organized day today. Was yesterday because the children didn't know what bus to take or teachers not letting children out promptly or parent problems
CJ, I like that quilt and can't wait to see it with your colors. It will be much better with your fall colors than what she is showing.
Dh ordered a chromebook. I don't really know why because he already had a laptop he rarely uses but it's kept him occupied this morning setting it up and all. Of course he needed my help. Actually there was not much to setting it up. It was very easy. I don't think people actually realize just how easy setting up a new computer is these days. They pay people to do it for them. He uses his desktop almost exclusively but it's getting old so that's probably why he bought this. He wants to be prepared.
After that I did some cleaning and I think that now I'll go do a little more inventory.
Oh and dh saw that the Mandala (only the the SPIRIT colorway though) was an even lower price last evening that when he bought me the last two cakes last week so he ordered more. He's also been looking through patterns and discussing them with me. He's looking for kind of a Native American inspired wrap to put around his shoulders while he's sitting in his "man cave" (he doesn't call it that though) So crafting yesterday was mostly in talking to him about various crochet techniques...after he got done ranting about the incompetence of the septic service people

Ruth, so I hope that Dh atoned for his ranting about his foot and the issues with the septic repair folks.. it was nice of him to find the mandala yarn and get more for you. Are you planning on using that mandala yarn for the Native American wrap that he wants? Were you able to find a pattern that works for you and Dh? Yes, I have heard that chromebook are insanely easy to use and get started on. Hope that Dh enjoys his and that it does all that he had wanted it to do.
CJ- that is such a pretty quilt! Of the 4 color ways shown, do you have a favorite? I think I like the bottom right one, but would change the color of the center star from yellow/gold to a rich brown. Looking forward to seeing the fabrics you pick out to use for that pattern. Its very pretty , what size is the final quilt? glad you were able to enjoy the lovely weather and open your windows. Yes I remember well your struggle with hiring the right contractor, sometimes they will not even answer a request for an estimate. Very frustrating.
I did make another mask today…took about 15 minutes. All the kids are home safe….and I am very thankful that I do not have to drive a school bus for a few days now. Sleeping in will feel good too tomorrow.

Yes he did atone for his ranting so all is peaceful now.I'm not going to use the yarn he ordered because it's blues and he wants more colors that are like fall colors. He didn't pick a specific pattern yet either because he hasn't found one yet that is what he had in mind but he does seem to be serious about wanting one. I did find one pattern today that I'm going to use that yarn for. Of course there are many and with the number he's bought me and the 4 I already had I could use two strands and make a thicker blanket but I don't think I'll do that. I may use some for the shawl I have in mind for ddil for her birthday.
I didn't see those other blocks so I went back and you're right, Ginny, the bottom right one is the best one. I know it's going to be great CJ!
I hope you all have a great weekend. We're, of course, not doing anything special and I bet CJ isn't either but are you planning anything special with your family, Ginny? And the Chinese food sounds great. I love Chinese food so save me some, I'll be right over

Ruth- oh no!! I got a simple dinner last night so all I got was wonton soup and an egg roll. My egg roll is gone, but I can save the soup for you ok? ha ha ha….I would love to see the pattern you selected to make as a shawl for Dh…sounds so pretty. If you can would you please provide a link for the pattern?
Still restoring my downstairs…and praying that I select the right contractor to remedy the problem. (Got one more contractor coming at the end of the week). Ds had to return to work today. I know I am seeing both DD’s this weekend but not sure when or how. Also would like to visit with my friend and her Dh- not sure if they will be here or I will see them at their house. So no specific plans. Just know that I will not be in a school bus, which is a good thing. I slept 8.5 hours last night which is unheard of for me. A normal night is around 6 hours of sleep. Guess I was tired!!! See ya later.
Hi to CJ, Phyl and Sue. Ginny

Good morning all. Well I think Morning is actually over but anyway hello to all
Ginny, no he hasn't picked a pattern yet. I'm thinking of writing or drawing out one myself because we don't seem to be able to find one that is close to what he wants. He did tell me to get my other things done first that he's not in a hurry. I have an idea of one to make. one of my favorites is egg rolls and although I don't like seafoood esp crab, I like the crab ragoons they usually have...very high calories though but tasty. It must have very little crab and mostly cream cheese. I bet it's been at least five years since I've had Chinese food that was actually from a restaurant and not something I made up myself though.
Today I'm going to inventory a little more of my yarn then maybe a little housework before I get busy and work on these crochet projects I want to get done. They are for ds' birthday as well as five of his children's birthdays. One birthday is already past and one at the end of the month then four in November. Then on to Christmas gifts for the people here. I do have some of the Christmas ones done.
I see that one of the mods has posted a WW special. I'm a lifetime member but haven't been to a meeting since 2004.I've done much better on my own plan and last time I was there the person in charge told me I had lost too much weight already and at that time I was over 20lbs heavier than I am now.

Hello Ruth - I hope you can find a good pattern, or make one up, for the piece for your DH. Hope your DH likes his Chromebook. I love my desktop computer, but my Kindle works great for just checking things on the Internet. Hope you get to work on some projects today. I love Crab Rangoons! I had some really good ones at a restaurant many years ago and the frozen ones from the grocery store are alright. I even made up my own a few times using wonton wrappers and making my own filling. Ginny - Hope you are getting some rest this weekend, it's great that you had a nice long sleep. I also hope that all your stuff has dried out and gotten back in place. I also hope you get a good contractor to take care of the work. Enjoy your time visiting with your DD's and friends. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are doing well. It's another sunny day here, but a bit warmer and humid. I have had the windows open for a few days, but I'm keeping them closed today. I made a few test blocks from the leaf quilt pattern and I like the way the leaves look -in the picture I've attached the background fabric has a more cream color than the yellow it looks like and the red fabric is a bit more red, and the gold is more yellowy. I'm just not sure I want to make those center blocks - I don't like making those blocks where you sew on a half triangle. I did get some cute little 2 inch bonus half triangle squares I have some darker brown fabric that I thought about just doing half square triangles to make the star, but then I'm afraid when I look at the quilt all I'll see is the dark center star. I may try to find a green or lighter brown fabric that might work. I'll think about this for a bit. Take care everyone!
