Hello Everyone Ruth - I'm happy the smoke has cleared and you can enjoy some clean air and few of the mountains. I hope there are no more fires anytime soon. Ginny - I'm happy to hear your family is enjoying the jelly you made. I'm sure the grandkids will want some when they are visiting you. It was very surreal to be able to see the smoke from the crashes, I was able to see smoke from the Pentagon crash from where I was in Washington, DC that day. I actually went to the Pentagon several times a month for my job, so it was scary to know that I could have been there that day I finished ripping apart the quilt block I messed up and put it back together again. I'm glad I was able to get that done. I really like the actual pattern but you had to be very careful with how you made each of the 16 small squares and then you had to be careful again piecing the 16 pieces together. Here's a look at the pattern: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2021/09/block-10-summer-soiree-.htmlThere's only 2 more blocks left and I'm trying to balance out the fabric colors in all 12 blocks, so I hope the next 2 blocks will let me do that. Then it's time for the sashing and borders. I'm a bit concerned about my sashing fabric choice, but I don't have many options. I guess I'll lay it out first and make sure I really like it before cutting and piecing. Hope you all get to do some crafting today. Take care

Ginny, no it didn't rain so I don't know why the air is so clear all of a sudden. It usually clears some when it's windy and it was windy earlier but the wind has never made it this clear before. Enjoy the beautiful weather while sitting on your deck and reading the paper. And don't worry, your jelly will get used. There are so many things you can use it for including glazing pork roasts and in some recipes. Thumbprint cookies can use some up for you and the grandchildren would love those.oh and don't forget the ever present grape jelly meatballs What can I do with extra grape jelly? Mini smoked sausages in grape jelly and chili sauce. ... Chopped pecan and grape jelly toast. ... Homemade jelly doughnuts. ... Grape jelly chicken. ... Peanut butter and jelly cinnamon rolls. ... Grape jelly and prosciutto bruschetta. ... Grilled peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. ... PBJ pancakes. I don't really think that pb and jelly sandwiches would work grilled. The pb and jelly would melt and run out of the bread Earlier I pretty much just sat and crochet but then I decided to do a little yardwork. There is some kind of new and probably invasive plant growing. It's low to the ground and spreads like wildfire. It not only is good at causing new little plants to grow but each plant spreads way our along the ground from on thick stalk. It looks kind of like an evergreen but isn't. I have no idea what it is. I tried to look it up to no avail.

I didn't see you there CJ. I'm glad you weren't at the Pentagon that day also because it would have been something that would really have had a horrible effect on you. I'm sure just seeing the smoke was bad enough
I'm glad you were able to take the blocks apart and do them over...and you did it so quickly! I'm going now to look at the pattern

Ruth is there a cooperative extension service you can call regarding this invasive weed?? Sounds awful. Wonder if white vinegar kills it. Thanks for all the ideas on how to use grape jelly. I do like the grape jelly/barbecue meatball recipe, which was a big hit at DD’s baby shower. Hope you were able to get some crocheting in!!! I had to come in off the deck while reading the paper as the mosquitos are out.
CJ- gee that is a sweet little block for the summer soirée. I agree laying out the possible sashing fabrics when you are ready is probably the best way to see what looks the best. Glad you have been able to put aside ripping the block out and that nasty part is done. Now the fun of assembly begins…. I can imagine the stress and anxiety you must have felt around 9/11. Bet that has taken a long time to get over and watching all the coverage on the news is probably bringing back your scary feelings.
My quilting for the day was to see Janes almost finished quilt for her grandson (who will be born in a few weeks) and to watch a sew as you go potholder video. Oh, I did finish a few masks for the grand kids and will let them choose which fabrics they want for future masks when I see them next.
Have a good night all Ginny

I've watched several of those potholder videos but haven't got any even started yet.I was actually looking for a beginner quilting book to buy after I saw the Pat Sloan one on the site that CJ posted the link for. I was looking at the thrift book sites. They have hers and it costs more than she sells it for but I was actually looking for a used book, not esp by her but any good beginner book. I don't really know why because there are so many good videos
I did get my waffle stitch neckwarmer, chest warmer done. That's number 3. I also made a hairband that ties so that size doesn't really matter. So now I have all my November birthday grandaughter's gifts done so just have my ds and the two little guys. I don't know if I'm going to make the two boys anything. I'm going to make them those spiderman blankets but won't mail those because they'll be heavy. I'll take them with us when we go to visit. For my ds I'm going to make him a larger and more detailed Baby Yoda like I made for my dd and something else as soon as I think of what that something else will be.
