Hello to Ginny and CJ and all who may be looking in.
Ginny, it's a great idea for us to do something for ourselves now and then so putting up the Christmas tree is not selfish at all. If you enjoy it then it's good you did it. I'm sorry to hear that the one family of grandchildren is still suffering various illnesses. I hope they're well soon.
CJ, I hope you got all the things done that you planned to do over the weekend. Even small quilted items are great and if making some to only the quilt top stage is fun for you then keep doing that.
Do either of you have plans for Thanksgiving. We don't. Even if dd does invite us at the last minute we won't go. There are just too many people gathering together now and all of them work and socialize and, as you know, several just had covid so we're not taking the chance.
I did some of the dreaded housework this morning and still have a lot I could do but I plan to mostly crochet. I'm still finishing up Christmas gifts. None of them are time consuming so I should have them all done by the end of this month which seems to be coming up much too fast as Ginny said in her opening post. These last two years have really flown by fast for me.
"See" you all later.

Can someone please explain to me why proboards used to keep me logged in all the time and now I have to log in almost each time??? What a waste
Ruth, sorry you had to get some of that dreaded housework done. A necessity but surely not fun. Looks so much better afterward however. Were you able to get some crocheting time in?? We are all getting together for Thanksgiving….DD#1 and I were just discussing who was bringing what - it looks like I am doing a lot of cooking on Wednesday….which is fine with me. Of our crowd, everyone is vaccinated (I think) with the exception of one person who is tested weekly. Not too concerned. Think my DGD is feeling a bit better and will be at school tomorrow. Must have been a cold or something simple, but everyone is excessively cautious these days.
DGS#3 was a bit testy this am, but much better in the afternoon….got study tonight.
Hope everyone is getting some crafting time in!!! Ginny

Hello Ruth - I hope you were able to get some crocheting done today. I meant to respond to your comments on riding a bus across country - there is no amount of money anyone could pay me to do that Ginny - Hope you are enjoying the Christmas tree. I'm glad things went pretty well with taking care of your DGS. I've been getting a virus/malware pop up sometimes when I'm on this message board so then I get off and stay away for a bit. I think it's a Pro-Boards thing. We had a cold, windy day here today, but the next few days it will get warmer. I don't go anywhere for Thanksgiving. I like to cook a few things that I enjoy so I'll do that this year. I haven't made a pumpkin pie for several years, but I'm going to this year. The only thing I'm not doing this year is cooking a turkey breast. I actually found a Jennie-O turkey breast at the store a few weeks ago and just went ahead and bought it and cooked it at that time and enjoyed it for a few days. I was able to get my 4 little blocks made for the monthly Mini Sewing Bee. I don't think I'll take on a project like this again - yearly and with such small blocks. I'm at the point where I'm tired of it now and this month's block had a lot of small pieces. I guess there will be a block next month and then it's done. Here's a link to see the block: temeculaquiltco.blogspot.com/2021/11/tqc-journal-issue-no-22.htmlThe next block for the Happy Everything quilt along came out today so I hope to work on that the next few days: blog.patsloan.com/2021/11/-happy-everything-block-7-is-lucky.htmlI'll make my shamrocks in green fabric and then I hope to bring in some blue and white fabric to the block. I don't think I'll do all those multiple strips framing the block, maybe just 2 fabrics. I ordered some fabric over the last few weeks, and both orders came today - one from the Fat Quarter Shop and one from Bear Creek Quilting Company. Both of these places have been really great with quick delivery. One group of fabrics I bought is for the new Pat Sloan quilt along that starts in January. I have always wanted to do one of hers using the same fabric she does so that I don't have to make any decisions about what to pick for each block - which I find to be the most stressful part of the quilt along. I really liked the fabrics/colors she is using this time, so I went ahead and bought the fat quarter pack and the coordinating fabrics, here are few links to see them: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/sweet-dreams.htmlwww.fatquartershop.com/moonstone-fat-quarter-bundleThanks again for thinking of me. I've been feeling anxious the last few days, and I'm sure I'll for the rest of this week. I'm glad that I'll hopefully be able to watch the memorial service for my DB and I've already ordered flowers. I'm just still having trouble believing he's gone Take care

CJ, they couldn't pay me to ride a bus across the country again either. I learned my lesson. So far I only went to that first link you posted and I truly love those blocks but I wouldn't do them either...as you said, they are just too small. Now I went to see the shamrocks blocks and they do look strange in yellow. I'd definitley have to make them in green. What you said about using the same fabric as the leader of the QAL is the same way I feel about crochet patterns. I have a hard time picking colors so I'd love to just be able to make the pattern in the same colors and yarn as is shown.
Ginny, I'm glad that your dgd is feeling better and that it probably was just a cold. As you said nowdays we are very concerned where before we would have though that it was a cold right from the beginning. Maybe found out later it was flu or other viral infection but now the first thing we think is serious virus. And now there are so many illnesses that either weren't around or weren't recognized when I was young and my sister and brothers were young. I sure never heard of Kawasaki disease or 5th disease or hand, foot and mouth disease. There are several others also.I' glad you're going to be able to all get together for the holiday. Yet another thing to be thankful for.
I did get in crocheting time and I think I mentioned that the project I'm working on now is done by length and I was going to be careful so that I didn't have to rip out long rows. Well careful didn't work and I've done a lot of ripping but I have it all straightened out now so hopefully it will stay that way since I found out what I was doing wrong even though from what the experts say, I was doing it correctly but you never know from one designer to another what they mean even using the same terms. It's only 7pm here so I'll do some more. Dh has court tv on again and I'm not interested in watching.

Just checking in….and will be back in a few hours.
CJ- well none of us will be on buses for a long time then! Me neither. I would either fly or drive myself. Love Bear Creek Quilt co- Jane has done some mini quilts of theirs that are magnificent.
Ruth- that absolutely stinks that you ended up having to rip out some crocheting. Did you get more crochet time in ??
See ya later!! I did get back to working on another ornament….they are so cute and a fun project.
Sue and Phyl - hope you are both well G

Well all the afgan kits are 25% off at Mary Maxim so I was glad I didn't order when I first thought about doing that. Well today I also got a Honey coupon for $4 more off but the shipping is $12.99 and you know how much I hate paying shipping. It looked like Honey had a coupon for shipping too and I'd rather have had that. I'm going to wait and see if MM will offer me lower shipping. Yes I'm a cheapskate. With the 25% off and the honey coupon the afgan does come to it's regular price when you add the shipping in...maybe a dollar or so less so I should get it anyway since I was prepared to pay the original price but this sale lasts till Thursday so I'll wait and see.
It was a drab looking day when I got up but the sun is out now and it's much less windy.
I did get more crocheting time in so this project is coming along I don't like how the sides look but I'll put on a border and it will look ok.
See you all later. It's another day for the dreaded housework.Yesterday I cleaned the top of the refrigerator and also the railing that goes down the stairs which I realied that I probably never have cleaned that rail before. Both those were a mess but the fridge top I clean often because it collects a greasy film due to cooking vapors I guess.
See you all later.

Ruth, I hope you loaded the afghan kit in your cart and left it there…they might come back to offer free shipping or a deeper discount. Yup, the top of a fridge sure does get messy and grimy. (I also have to move my fridge and vacuum behind it, another fun job). So why did you have to tell me that afghan kits are 25% off at Mary Maxim???Not like I needed another afghan kit, but I might look.
Better put dinner on the table….its done….see ya later. (Will stop back in later to check out CJ’s links and say hello) g

Gosh, CJ- those mini quilts are adorable. I love how each looks different even though they are the same pattern, they appear so different due to use of other fabrics. I liked all the different fabrics used in the Pat Sloan border- just different enough so that they complimented each other….what ever you decide will look great!!! The moonstone fat quarter fabrics are so pretty and a unique combination of fabrics and colors. I love the use of black fabrics with paler colors- makes for a very dramatic quilt. I am glad you sent flowers for your DB’s service….and I can imagine there is some apprehension regarding how you might feel during this service. Have you considered viewing the service in the company of your DB and DSIL who live close by? I know it will not be the same as being there, but if you were with them you might be of comfort to each other and be able to share fond memories of your brother. And I know - with schedules and distance it might not be possible. Guess with covid we have become reasonably good at facing issues by ourselves, but that does not mean that it is easy. Again we are here for you…in love and in friendship.
Good day watching the little ones. Looking forward to a quiet evening and making another prairie point ornament.

Ginny, I'm glad the day with the little ones was good and have fun making the ornaments. It sounds like you're really enjoying making them. Yes I like those quilts and blocks on CJ's links
I did rip out some rows again and I think the sides look better. I will probably have this done yet tonight or maybe tomorrow. It's supposed to be pretty cold tomorrow. High of 34. I don't like that idea at all but what can you do.
CJ, I had my turkey already too so will make something else for Thanksgiving which will pretty much be the same as any other day for us but that idea of making a pumpkin pie that you mentioned sounds good so I'll probably make one too.

Ruth, with all the cooking you have done, that leaves Thanksgiving for you to make whatever you and Dh like that day- no pressure to make the big meal. So if you could make any meal you liked, what would that be?? Sorry to hear that you ripped out some more rows, but it does sound as though you have made it look better and are happy with the results. Were you able to finish it last night? Cold weather….well its to be expected. When does Dh start up the wood stove?
Never got to work on the ornament last night, I decided to clean up email a bit and straighten up a wee bit. Yes today is turkey day….as we are making Rice Krispie treat turkeys. I really doubt that many will survive the day as DGD and DGS will eat them. That is ok….they are little and these are meant to be enjoyed.
Hope everyone has a good day….. CJ- thinking about you and what is coming your way this week.My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Phyl and Sue- hope you can both check in and are doing well. Sue when I was at the library the other day, my favorite librarian shared with me how he is primary care for his DM who has Alzheimers…and what a challenge it is. Such a devastating disease and a challenge for the caregiver…..hope you are doing well and able to get the help you need for Dh’s care. G

Ginny, rice krispie turkeys sound like a great craft to make and yes, I agree that they will pretty much be all gone by the end of the day. One of the things I liked about having the grandchildren here or visiting the other ones is when their parents weren't around they could eat whatever they liked. Grandma and Grandpa were good at "spoiling". My oldest grandaughter liked that I let them eat ice cream for breakfast. And, actually, it's probably more nutritious than some of the cereals that are sold.
CJ, yes our thoughts and prayers are definitely with you. What you're going through is hard.
Well I've been cleaning out the storage area under the stairs. It's amazing what you can get into a small space.Dh has actually agreed to get rid of some things. He's not a hoarder but it is hard for him to give up things that he thinks he might use in the future.
And a dilemma. Of course I have about 50 billion pictures of the children and grandchildren. I have a album of 350 pictures just of ds' oldest and just from his first year. And then there's all the rest.I even have some very old pictures that belonged to my grandmother. Half the people in those were people I didn't know and they weren't labelled so I did throw those away I wish I could scan them all and put on a flash drive but don't have a scanner anymore. We never look at those pictures but I hate to just throw them away. I don't know what to do with them all. They're taking up a lot of space. And even if I had a scanner I don't know that I would want to use up all the time that would be involved in scanning them all.Luckily pictures of the youngest grands and all the great grands are online.
Nope didn't get the project done last night. I'll finish it today sometime. ok break is over...back to work

Ruth, the picture dilemma…..I started going through mine (and those from my mom so we had lots of duplicates.) I have become a bit ruthless. And will start identifying them by time period and select the best of the best. I did sort of start that process, and need to return to it. Keep the best of the best….in this digital world that is what we do. When I was being sort of taught by a friend to take pictures he told me that in a roll of 36 exposures you really only get one or two good pictures and will throw out the rest. (He was a talented photographer). No one but you will know what you discarded and you are saving them the same heartache.
Made the turkeys today….kids loved the project. gonna make some more tomorrow as decorations for the actual day of Thanksgiving.
DD had an awful day at work. A kid spoke so harshly to her that it drove her to tears. (She has been teaching for well over 10 years). She said to me that kids like this young woman usually end up in big trouble …..and do not graduate. Her administration seems not to be backing her, and I feel awful for her.
Thought I was going to get more done today myself….but that did not happen. Gonna take a shower and get back to work on ornaments.

Ginny, I even have duplicates and triplicates of some of the photos. I got them because I thought that when the children were grown they wouold want them to show their children but so far none have asked for them so I'm going to do what you did and bite the bullet and get rid of a bunch..well that is...when I get time. I have a lot to do before doing that though.I hate the idea of maybe leaving all this to the children when we are no longer here and most would probably end up on ds' shoulders.
I'm so sorry about your daughter's day today. People just don't teach their children respect any more. It's ridiculous how children speak to adults. If I had spoken to a teacher like that and my father had found out I would have been in huge trouble. What age are the children your dd teaches? There is no way I'd want to be a teacher nowdays.
