Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Good morning all!!! Oh my all this talk of food is not good for me….and considering that this message board was started to replace the now non existent WW message boards.- well its a rather strange irony.
Later on I will post my date nut bread recipe. My mom used to buy either Arnold or Pepperidge farms date nut bread when I was a kid. It was a small loaf- perhaps only 3 inch slices in a tiny loaf shape. At some point that disappeared from the stores and the hunt began. I found this recipe for date nut bread that my mom and I both felt was the real thing and it earned its place on my Thanksgiving and Christmas tables.
CJ- thanks for the recipes for the tea loaf and fudge! Got some time later this week and will check them out. And I do understand the stress of waiting for a contractor. I so wish that the last service call had fixed the problem. What a shame- and I have to hope that somehow this can be resolved.
Ruth, well, the problem with me is that I read your post a half hour ago and now forgot what I wanted to say. Ugh. I can be so dense. I do know that you were supposed to make cinnamon rolls….and they make the house smell amazing. Are you still planning on going shopping on Wednesday?
Will stop back in later…. When hopefully my brain is more functional. Ginny

hahahaha, Ginny. Has anyone ever told you that you're an enabler? Free shipping at MM! Well I just ordered two skeins of rh ombre from Walmart because there was something that dh wanted and Honey sent me an email saying price was reduced and it was...by a lot. So I had to get that for him and I needed more to meet the free shipping parameters and I can always use yarn so that's what I added.
It's a nice day here. Neighbor was mowing yesterday again. The other neighbor that had covid is now in Hospice. She had them discontinue her oxygen and all treatment except for comfort care needs. I never got to know her but am sorry that she is in the process of dying. She's the one who's son's truck we bought two years ago. It looks like her son has already moved into her home which is a little frightening because he has mental health issues and is unpredictable. The mowing neighbor found this guy inside his house a couple years ago.

Ruth, I am so very very sorry about your neighbor…does she have other medical issues and that covid has exacerbated her deteriorating health? How sad…it’s going to sound callous, but if she is to pass I hope she does not linger and is kept comfortable. I pray that her son has addressed his issues and is not a concern to your neighborhood. I am NOT an enabler!! I am a caring friend who remembered that you saw a Mary Maxim afghan kit not to long ago that you might be able to work some magic on and save some money with free shipping! Or perhaps CJ, Sue or Phyl might want to use a free shipping deal. Ha ha ha ha Cold here today…think another cold day tomorrow. Perfect weather to stay inside and craft.

WE've already had 40 views of our thread. I wonder who all these people are that read only. Some may be from us seeing if there's something to respond to but no way could we have 40 times where we dropped in. Some of these people should join us.
Ok, time to rant about video makers. I've been following a youtube and just got to row six. So I pulled it out twice because I thought I had too many stitches. Finally I looked at her recap of the row and she mentioned the three stitches that were there so I looked at that part of her video where she was actually crocheting and saw a flicker. Sure enough, that part of the video was not there. I mentioned it in the comments that she had a glitch and then went to read the comments. Most people said they were planning to make this and finally there was someone that actually did try to make it and she said she "frogged" six times and still it wasn't right. The videographer did then admit there was a glitch and those three stitches weren't mentioned however that was 7 months ago and she never fixed it!! Ginny, almost everyday it happens to me that I read the posts and then forget what I was going to say in response so you are not alone. And no I didn't make the cinnamon rolls because I remembered that I didn't have cream cheese for the frosting. They would be ok with just regular frosting but if we're going to eat them we want them to have the frosting that we like best
CJ, I'm with you on the spices on the tea loaf. I'll just use cinnamon too esp now that dh ordered some good cinnamon online. It came on Saturday and smells really good so I know it's going to be great in both the cinnamon rolls and the tea loaf. We don't care much for allspice and, in fact, when I was cleaning cupboards this morning I threw one container of allspice away since we rarely use it and it ended up being pretty old....real old in fact

Ruth, I totally agree….40 views (or whereever we are in the count now) - some of folks who do not stop in to say hello? Well, I hope that they find words of encouragement in how lovely our friendship is, a friendship that we forged through this nice thread. Oh I hear you about lousy youtubes. So frustrating.
I did get to finish, well almost, an ornament last night. This might be my favorite fabric combination of all.

Ginny, you should see all the emails I've received over this weekend for yarn deals!! Now they've all extended for another day but as much as I would love to order I'm not going to. You should see my stash. Still thank you for posting about the free shipping because you never know when I might need a certain one that's not in my gigantic stash. Thanks again.
My neighbor had bladder cancer and had to have her bladder removed. Then she developed cancer on her nose and had to have part of her nose removed. I don't know any of the details such as any metastasis but she just decided that she'd had enough. All this happened within the last year. She also is in the at risk for covid age group being about 70. I think that her son is ok when he's taking his meds and staying away from drugs so we'll hope he continues. I only met him after I bought his truck...which was from a Ford dealer....and spoke to him twice and both times he seemed very nice and "normal" but I know his mom had to call the police a couple times to have him removed from her home. It's sad. I don't think he visits her in hospice because his truck is always still in her drivewayI think he's in his 50's.

Hello Everyone Ruth - Sorry those videos of projects are frustrating, it's hit and miss with good and bad ones. I'm sorry to hear about your neighbor going into hospice, sounds like she has really dealt with some tough health issues. I hope you don't have any problems with her son if he continues living there. Hope you get to make the cinnamon rolls once you get the frosting ingredients. I enjoy the rest of the tea loaf that I didn't freeze. I think I'll try the date loaf later in December since I don't have to have an egg for it. Ginny - I'm glad you are getting more ornaments done and I hope you get to stay inside and out of the cold. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well. I've come to think that the number of views that shows is not really an accurate count of people coming to view the page. I think that ProBoards inflates the number, just my opinion We were supposed to have this week off from the Happy Everything quilt along but Pat Sloan decided to go ahead and have a block for this week since it is the Leaf block. So I finished my block this morning. I'm O.K. with it, but it's not my favorite block. I've struggled using this fat quarter collection for all these different blocks. Trying to pick fabrics for each block so they go well with the others is not fun for me. I doubt I'd do another quilt like this that has different size blocks, unless I just did a 2 color quilt - like red/white, blue/white. I really like this new fabric collection and would love to make a quilt in these colors: www.fatquartershop.com/moda-fabrics/crystal-lane-bunny-hill-designs-moda-fabricYesterday I put more of one of the Fall Frolic quilt tops together. I finished making all the HST blocks and was able to assemble 3 of the 5 rows. Once I get tomorrow's block I'll be able to finish another row for each of them and then next week is the last block. I'm happy with how these quilts are coming along. Hope all of you are having nice weather and getting to do some crafting. Take care!

Good evening all! Not sure how proboards counts the number of visitors. I am sure the moderators visit regularly to make sure that everything is civilized and calm. I know one of and perhaps the main reason that Weight Watchers dropped the boards was because there were some rude and abusive individuals there who really should have been silenced. Unfortunately one of them kept recreating herself (new screen names) so that each time she was thrown off she came back with another identity. WW wanted no part of that kind of problem….and while I think the boards were a fun place to be and I made some great friends there, I suppose that it was a business decision that it was easier just to drop the boards. I do remember hearing that the one really obnoxious person did gravitate here- but I stay away from those type threads now and hope that those unsavory individuals just leave me alone.
CJ-I really like that bunny hill design fabric line. the medium blues are so pretty and I do love the accent brown colors. An absolutely favorite afghan that my mom made for me, is brown and blue….with some yellow accents. Anyway, I would love to see what quilt pattern you make with this fabric line. Bet you will have fun making it as its so pretty. When I did the BOM- they basically gave us all our fabrics and introduced each new style block each month.I admit that deciding which fabrics (with a fairly large range of colors) was quite an effort. It was interesting to see what color selections Jane and I both made…..some months our color choices were very similar and some months extremely different. I think with quilting the more practice you get at putting colors together the easier it gets and sometimes a quirky color combination really adds interest.
Well, Ruth then I am not an enabler,,,,seems as though everyone is offering good shipping rates and sales. Ha ha ha.I am so sorry to learn of your neighbors deteriorating health and the many issues she has. Hope that in losing his mother he remains stable and is not a problem for you and your neighborhood. Did you ever get your crochet project (and the awful video) straightened out??
Long day….just am glad to have an easy day tomorrow. Think its time to work on an ornament. Ginny

Ginny, now I'm sorry I didn't go to Mary Maxim yesterday because I found out they have a clearance sale and have some fantastic bargains. I don't know if it was yesterday too or not though really.I did pick out some that I liked. Shipping though is $16.99. Honey though did give me a coupon for $16.51 off but I'd, of course, love to get both. of course the free shipping yesterday probably was thru a coupon code too and you can only use one code. So I'm still thinking about it.The afgan kit I wanted is not in clearance and they never did offer me lower or free shipping. I probably won't get this yarn because they seem to always have huge sales after the first of the year and there's none that I need right now
CJ, I agree those colors are beautiful. I see it's a half yard bundle. Does that mean there is fabric in there too for the shashings and borders or is that just enough for the blocks. If you're getting it I see you can save a lot by ordering early.
Ginny, yes there were very rude people on that old WW board. There was one that always harrassed me.She came to this board too but was cancelled by the mods after they warned her several times and she still kept trying to come back using other names but the mods here accessed her IP address and found she was the same person using other identities so off she went.I love that this board is so peaceful and enjoyable.

See Ruth? I am not an enabler, just am trying to help out and help you find a bargain! For some reason I do remember the craft companies running big sales in January..guess they figure those of us in states with snow are stuck inside and would rather play with yarn. Of course having a nice new hat, scarf, sweater…..is a nice thing and something you would not want during a hot summer day. Hopefully they run a site wide sale and you can get that afghan kit if you really decide to make it. its a lovely Afghan for sure.
Yes, I am sure that WW figured out the individuals IP address of the person who was so abusive to not only me but others. Wonder if you and I are talking about the same person? But I do not remember her name (nor do I want to!). I do believe that another member here would probably remember her name, as he had several run ins with her too. He also came to my defense (which I appreciated but did not need) on the WW board. This person was just unnecessarily nasty- I never did anything to her, but held a difference in opinion than she did. She had a heart full of hate, so very sad. Anyway, I am thankful that the moderators here keep this a pleasant place to be.
Saw a FB post of my former WW leader (who moved south) she looks amazing (I figure she is in her early to mid 60’s). Guess she should serve as an inspiration to me as she has successfully kept her weight off for at least 20 years. She moved to Florida about 10 years ago…. I will say WW has that connect option- which I just do not find as much fun or practical as being on a daily thread tlike this. Thanks to the moderators for giving us this option.

Hello It was not too cold here today, in the 50s but a bit cloudy. I'm happy to keep having the milder weather for awhile. I'm not sure if I'll buy that fabric, but I'm thinking about it and I would buy the fat quarter bundle. I'm trying not to buy fabric lines like this unless I have a project in mind, since they tend to sit and not be used. I've just finally started using some older fat quarter bundles this year. I finished my two Fall Frolic blocks for this week, which were a Half Log Cabin block, so it was nice to do some straight sewing. I also added these blocks to the rows in the quilt layout I have for each of them and I've sewn the rows together that I can. So next week after I finish that block it should be quick to put the tops together. Now I hope to get back to working on that quilt I made the 48 half square triangles for. It would be nice if I could finish that top by the end of the month. I'd really like to work on another Christmas quilt but I don't really have one in mind and don't have a lot of energy to search for one Hope you are all having nice weather and getting to do some crafting. Take care

Hello my dear crafting friends!
Ginny, I think the hardest part of weight loss is maintaining once you get the weight off. I know I've been up and down many, many times. This time it's been three years and this time I intend to keep it off forever. So, anyway,, congrats to your former ww leader on her 20 years. On a thread I used to post on there was a woman who worked for WW who also has kept weight off for about 20 years I think she said.
CJ, congratulations on getting those blocks completed. Sometimes it's hard to stick to a thing like a QAL or CAL but you've done it so many times in just this year.
I did a little crocheting this morning then when dh woke up went shopping. Of course then we had to put all that away and it involved putting meats into smaller packages for the freezer. Then, because my microwave bit the dust dh went out to the garage and found one of our older ones and brought it in so I cleaned it and got it set up where the broken one sat. From time to time it arced but I found that if I put a cup of water in with whatever I had in there it wouldn't arc. Now, though, that doesn't work either so it's back to the older one which I put out in the garage only because it was so large and I had bought this smaller one. Then I had to go through all the mail we picked up at the mailbox. most of course was junk mail. Now I'm ready to sit and crochet.

CJ- well ……hmmmm……if i were you I would wait until January and buy a Christmas kit (on sale!) for a quilt that you really love. I do understand how its nice to what you have in the house….but well, if its something that would really make you happy and you have been very good at not buying a lot of fabrics recently….then I can play the role of the enabler and suggest that you go and pick up something you really like. Glad you made such good progress on the fall frolic blocks!!!!
Ruth, absolutely, the biggest challenge is keeping the weight off. (I have been within a pound of my goal weight…yikes). Denise has been there for years and she looks great. She is also at the higher end of her weight range- always has been. I am inspired by that because she never tried to be rail thin, just at a weight that she could maintain. Funny about microwaves….mine has developed an issue and I told my Ds that if is completely dies I will bring up a spare from downstairs for the interim. Glad you got your shopping done and all the groceries packed and put away. Its a lot of work.
My crafting for the day was to make a snowman from Rice Krispie treats to see if I could do so and make something that DGD would like to make next week. Think I got it figured out. And now I have been searching through cross stitch patterns for my DSIL who wants to make something for my Ds…. As she has made pictures for both my DD’s.Its a bit of a challenge finding something that is not huge and meets her criteria plus his taste. Think I figured out what will work best.
See ya tomorrow!!! Ginny
