CJ- looks like you have some crummy weather/snow in your area. Knowing you, you are well prepared, got plenty of fabric to play with and are safe at home!! Just wanted you to know I am thinking about you. Ginny

Hello Everyone Ginny - Hope you can get the afghan/yarn situation worked out Hope this bad weather isn't heading your way Yes, we had quite a bit of snow (for here anyway) - see the picture below. It measured about 8.5 inches. It finally stopped around 2:00 P.M., so I've gone out and cleared my back steps and sidewalk. I'll wait about an hour and then I want to clean around my car, so I can get in there maybe tomorrow and start it. I'm not sure if I can clean off the car yet or not. When I had old cars, I didn't worry about hurting them and I just used a broom (and sometimes a snow shovel ) to clear them off, but I don't want to scratch up my new car. I did pull some fabrics for the Happy Everything block that comes out today and I might try to do the other quilt along Pat Sloan has which is "The Secret Lives of Color", but I'm not sure. I probably don't have fabrics of all the colors in the book, but I guess I could just pick as close as I could. Hope you are all doing well and that your weather isn't bad and you get to do some crafting. Take care

CJ, that does sound like a LOT of snow for your area!! I hope you're keeping nice and warm and please be careful that you don't slip on the ice. We keep our old cars connected to a battery tender. They're amazing things. All those years that we had non starting cars couold have been way different if we knew about battery tenders then. and Yes, I know how you feel about your new car. I felt that way about mine too then the stupid garbage bin smashed into it.
Ginny, your weather sounds like here with that drastic temp drop. Today we're having a warm day...in high 40's and tomorrow I think is supposed to be pretty good too but Wed all the trouble comes back with a nightime low of 11 below zero. I hope it's not windy too.
Ginny, sorry about you have to rip out part of the afgan. I've been doing a lot of that lately. I'm glad you're back on track.
I made chili and potato cheese soup today and cleaned up the kitchen and am now ready to sit and crochet although there are many other things I could be doing.

CJ- that is a lot of snow for your area! I just checked the weather for my friend in Gaithersburg…..I guess you could let it all melt tomorrow as at least by her its supposed to be warmer. Hope you do not have to go out in it. Let the sun melt it, it does not scratch the paint of your car. Ha ha ha. You have such a good eye for color I am sure you can find good substitutes for the secret lives of color quilt. I did not sit through the video, but from the layout it looks like a cute quilt. I would think you could even go scrappy on that (But I know you are not comfortable with scrappy quilting). Relax- you will do fine.
Ruth, -11 degrees is COLD!!! I figure you are used to all these temperature swings, it seems to be normal for your area. Good thing you are making afghans, which are so comfy to work on in cold weather. Chili and potato cheese soup are wonderful comfort foods!! Yum…..
fortunately tomorrow it is supposed to be 10 degrees warmer so I can take DGS out for more than a few minutes. He enjoyed being on the swing in the back yard but it was so cold. (I did have him all bundled up). Think we might be in for snow later on this week. Typical of January weather I suppose. I am concerned as Ds got stuck working another double….hope he gets home ok very late this evening.
Gonna crochet a few minutes and then have a quick zoom meeting instead of Bible study. We decided to zoom- between the cold weather and covid staying home just makes more sense.

Well, its a rip roaring 16 degrees here this am- but they do say my temperature will get to 36 today. CJ, the DC area got about a foot of snow yesterday - did you get more snow?
I did get a few rows back on the afghan, nice to add rows instead of ripping them out.
See ya later! Ginny

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get some more rows put on your afghan. Hope you were able to get your grandson out today. I didn't get anymore snow after I posted yesterday, so the total was about 8-9 inches. A relative who lives about 25 miles south of me got over 13 inches! Anytime I see a snowstorm coming from the south towards this area I know it's going to be bad, those always bring the worst snow. The storms that come from the west go over the Blue Ridge Mountains and usually they are weaker by the time they hit the DC metro area. I finished all the shoveling I'm going to do between yesterday and today. My main concern was clearing the drain pipes for the gutters and the pipe for the furnace, also clearing the area where my sump pump discharges water. But I also got the car completely cleared and a path to the outside trash/recycling containers. I did clear some in the driveway, but not all of it at the road, since that is where the plows push all the big chunks of ice/snow up. I think I'll be able to drive over it since there was some melting today and hopefully they'll be more tomorrow. I did make the block for the Happy Everything quilt along this morning. There are a few blocks that go beside it, so I hope to get those done this week. The new quilt along starts tomorrow and I'm not really motivated to do it, but I do like my fabrics and the quilt layout, so hopefully I'll enjoy it as it goes along. Hope all of you are having decent weather and getting to do some crafting. Take care

CJ- sounds as though you were very busy making sure that your home and vehicles are clear of snow and safe to use. Its a lot of work!! I am thankful that you were not stuck on I95 where I heard travelers were trapped in their vehicles for 24 hours.. a foot is a lot of snow…and the DC metro area is not used to that. I have seen the huge snow plows used on the NYS Thruway- they are like 10 story buildings on wheels.. and its overwhelming to see them on the road because they are so huge. I hope that your family is ok too….its a lot of snow for sure. Let’s hope it melts!!! Good that you made the Happy Everything block this am, that is a nice diversion from snow removal and something you enjoy.
Babysat the little guy this am….he is just so cute- but honestly a little bit difficult. It was warm enough that I was able to take him for a walk and go on the swing in the backyard for a few minutes.
Well, I have possibly seen two covid exposures in the past 5 days. Not great news, but I am vaccinated and boosted….and honestly, i came to the conclusion the other day that almost everyone is going to get omicron (unless they never go out). I pray I do not get it, but one person I was exposed to actually does have it, the other it might be the flu (which I am immunized for also).
My crafting for today is to peruse the Annies catalogs that came in the mail today. Looks like one is yarn crafts…and the other is quilting sewing. Just what I need…another project. Ginny

Good afternoon or evening Ginny and CJ, Phyl and Sue
It's pretty decent weather here today with only a slight breeze. That will end tomorrow but then it's to get warmer again. Weird weather is all over the place.
CJ, I know you're relieved to have the shoveling done. And since you do like the fabrics and the layout for the new quilt along I hope you will enjoy doing it once you've started
I'm trying to figure out how large to make this afgan. It's a square so it's hard to decide what size would be the best. I would guess it will be used when dgs is sitting on a chair or couch to I'll probably make it so that if my dh were sitting on the couch how much of him would be covered. Dgs is a little taller but way thinner.
Ginny, I'm glad you were able to complete a couple more rows. I know you have a lot of projects in mind so you'll be happy when this one is done and you can work down your list. I'm sure you'll really be happy when the carpet tile is completed.

Yeah with the possible exposure, I am not going anywhere tomorrow and will be having fun working on carpet tile tomorrow. I do think that will take a couple of days of work and I am unsure my creaky body can do much in one day. We shall see.

Ruth, good luck with the decision about what size to make this afghan. I tend to avoid square afghans because of the issue you are facing- how large to make it. I like that I can just add rows to make an afghan longer, if needed. Think using your Dh as a good model for size will work out well and should cover most usages for the afghan by your DGS.

Good afternoon from a very cold place. It's nearly 1pm and the temp is -5 according to the news that was just on.
I think I'm going to make this afgan 60 inches so I might be almost there. I keep having to rip out rows because of mistakes that can't be fixed by kind of cheating and I've made so many of those that it looks like it's part of the pattern. When an afgan gets this large around it takes a lot of work to rip out all the way back to the mistake then re do it. With all my ripouts I've done enough crocheting for two afgans. No matter how much I tell myself to pay attention my mind wanders and then a missed stitch happens.

Ruth, -5 degrees sure us cold!!! Is Dh able to get the wood burner going, or is it too windy for that?? Hope that you and Dh are staying nice and cozy. I am sure you have some wonderful chili or that soup left….perfect comfort foods to get through a very chilly winter day. Is it supposed to stay cold in your area for long? I think a 60 inch square would be perfect as an afghan size for DGS. (Plus making that will be great for him and to keep you nice and warm. I am getting a headache thinking about all the ripping out you have had to do, and yes that would be a problem with a large square piece. Hoping that the next time you check in you are done with it and happy with how it turned out. Who will you be making an afghan for next?
I am just warming up….just took my shower a few minutes ago. I spent awhile taking out the old carpet tile in anticipation of installing the new tomorrow. (Which I will not complete tomorrow but its a start.) So part of the room might start to look sort of normal then. I am looking forward to that for sure. Not so sure about my possible covid exposures….the one person I am waiting for test results and the other might not have been contagious the day I saw them. today I have a minor headache (which I have taken nothing for) and a sniffle….who knows. I am going to see how the test results come back from my primary exposure and see how that goes. I did call in to work and tell them my predicament and that I should not come in until next week.
Gonna crochet this evening and watch movies…. Hope you can get some crafting in! Ginny

Hello Ginny - I'm sorry to hear about the possible Covid exposure and I hope you don't get sick. Sounds like you are making good progress with the carpet tiles. Enjoy your crocheting and movies this evening. I had several family members who had covid exposure too (from other family members who came to stay with them over the holidays), so far none have gotten sick that I've heard of. Ruth - That is so cold!! Hope you stay warm and safe in your home. I think a 60 inch afghan would be a nice size. My mind is always wandering when I'm working on a crafting project It was around 40 here today, but cloudy. We did get some more melting though. I hope it melts some more over the next few days. There is one side of the house that I can't really get to without shoveling in the grass but I'd like to get the drain pipes cleared. I'm sure it will all melt eventually, though we are predicted to get some light snow tomorrow night. I finished the most recent block for the Happy Everything quilt along and the first block for the Sweet Dreams quilt along this morning. I'm glad that I'm keeping up. There are only 2 more blocks for the Happy Everything quilt and I'm tempted to just go ahead and finish that top. I don't like having so many ongoing projects, I found that was stressing me out last year. Here's a link to the first block for Sweet Dreams if you'd like to see it: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/2022/01/-sweet-dreams-block-1.htmlI'm using the same Moonstone fabric line that Pat Sloan is, but I'm picking different fabrics for my blocks than for hers (unless I really like how she does one). Take care everyone
