Hey Ruth, sorry I did not stop back in to say hello. Sounds as though you had a full day of taking care of stuff at home. Its just so much more fun to cook during the winter- and I hope that you had a good day in the kitchen. Are you working on a hat now or the shawl for DGD?
I found some directions I was looking for and read the directions for the shopping bag I wanted to make. As I had also put down some carpet tile….that was it for me for crafting! Hope I can get some crewel time in today…so pleased I found those directions.
See ya later G

Ginny, it's great that you found those directions. You have a lot of talent in many crafts. I remember years ago thinking I would like to do crewel but never got to it.
I never did get any crocheting done yesterday. I did look at some patterns. The day before I started some doll clothes instead of a hat and yesterday I was looking online for a doll the size of the one my youngest grandaugter has. I decided I could do a better job if I had an actual doll to use. Then after I finish using it as a model I can give it to one of the great grandaughters as a gift with some clothing I make extra for it.So I spent a lot of time looking and reading the comments of those that bought the dolls I was considering. It sure is hard to find a decent doll and when you do they're very expensive. I can't believe the prices.
Today another pattern came out on a blog hop. One for which you can get the pdf free. It's a pretty bag that you can use for pencils, etc or a makeup bag and has a zipper so I'm planning on making one for each of the girls. Yikes..I have so many projects planned! Don't we all though
Wind is blasting again today so although it's warm temperature wise it feels cold

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well Ginny - I'm glad to hear the carpet tiling is coming along and that you have a crewel project to work on. Hope you stay safe with the cold temperatures coming the next few days. I forgot to say that I checked out that quilt along you posted about and they do have some very nice color/fabric choices, I hope you can do it if you want to. Ruth - That's a good idea to get the doll so you can make sure the clothes will fit it. It just seems like everything is so much more expensive these day, doesn't it? Hope you stay safe from the wind. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well After a full day of rain yesterday, it was sunny today, but only in the 30s - tomorrow is supposed to be in the 20s I finished the quilt top for the Happy Everything quilt along and I'm pretty happy with how it turned out. I like it that I can see what each holiday is by the blocks I've made. It's a "happy" quilt This quilt along was a challenge for me since I'm not used to making an asymetrical quilt. I prefer a quilt to be standard block sizes instead of all these different ones with different fabrics. But I'm glad I decided to do it, but not sure if I'd make another one like this. I'll post the picture below. I did learn a good lesson with this - don't buy fat quarter bundles! I ended up with 11 fat quarters that I didn't even use for this quilt, along with about half of each fat quarter piece I did use. So that's a lot of fabric I have left. I've sorted the leftovers into color groups and I'll try to use them for some small projects. I really don't want to add more scraps/fat quarters to the ones I already have. I'm not sure what I'll work on next, I do still have 2 unfinished projects - one quilt and the barn embroidery and I'd like to get those done. I also want to see about some fabric for that monthly quilt along with the churn dash blocks. I was thinking maybe a pink and brown quilt. I was going to start another quilt along that Pat Sloan is doing but I decided not to join that one. I like the concept of it, but it was stressing me out picking the fabrics for the blocks (75 in total - doing about 10 or so a month). It's all based on colors. I may change my mind and just make one block for each of the color groups, I'll have to think about it. I think this quilt along goes on all year. Take care everyone

CJ- the Happy Everything quilt top is so Happy!!! (I know its supposed to be, duh). Love the way it turned out and you have every right to be happy with it and proud of it. I really think that the blue border really pulls it all together and compliments the quilt perfectly. Very very nice job- thanks for sharing it with us. I too mentally struggle with non symmetrical quilts/quilt blocks and admit that I have stayed away from quilts for that reason. But this turned out really well . I wonder if you will quilt this and if so how. What is the finished size?
Ruth we all spend a ton of time looking at patterns, it is what inspires each of us, right? What a shame that the doll you want to use for your model is so pricey. It seems to be a good idea though to find something like that to help you make the clothes…the zippered makeup bag sounds like a cute idea!! I would struggle putting a zipper on a crocheted item, but I am sure you are a pro at it.
Now just because I do something, does not mean I am any good at it. I am glad that I found those directions…I was getting to the point where knowing the right stitch would be helpful. I was willing to figure it out on my own if I could not find the instructions. I enjoy crewel, its portable and small, a nice change from larger projects. My sister messaged me this am, and I forgot that she asked me to finish a panel quilt for her DGS. Well by the time we were done messaging, she learned that its a bit more work than she originally thought…but it is a simple project. Hope she remembers to send me the fabric this week so I can have it done in time for her DGS late February bday. Oh and yes I did the stupid thing and decided to join that PMQ/BOM. I fell in love with one fabric color way and the previous PMQ’s from this manufacturer are very pretty. What is nice is the pieces are all precut, so it only takes sewing with no waste. I thought that might be a good project for me.
I did cut and start to sew the fabric shopping tote I wanted to make. Hope that I can finish it in a day or so…not that it takes that much work, but I also want to finish up carpet tiles, which I might be able to do tomorrow.
Phyl and Sue hope you are ok…
going down to single digits tonight…winter is sure here.

CJ you definitely picked the right fabric for that quilt top. It really does work so well. The entire quilt top is so beautiful but I see what you mean about all the different size blocks. One thing though is that you showed yourself that you could do it and do it well. And, yes, I think that if picking fabrics for the new one is stressrul that letting it sit for a time is a good idea. You can always decide to do it later. And yes I'd hate to add to my fabric collection too. I have a lot of it. I don't have much quilt fabric but I do have a lot of fabric and that's after I gave some away and donated some. Yes everything just seems so much more expensive. Makes you wonder how people are able to buy toys and clothing for their children. The temps you mentioned seem awfull cold for your area of the country. I hope you'll be able to stay in and nice and warm. How's the furnace working now?
Ginny, nope, I'm not a pro at all in putting in zippers into my crochet things. I've only done it twice and did a terrible job the first time and maybe a tiny bit better the second time. Today I spent time watching videos on the various ways of doing it.There's one way of doing it that I saw awhile back and it seemed like the best but I can't find that video anywhere. I do plan to keep trying. One so called expert who made a video on this did a terrible job and should have practiced more before she made that video.Yes I think that a crewel project would be a really good thing to carry with you when you go out and may have to do some waiting. I hope you're able to get those carpet tiles finished. It will be yet another project you'll be able to cross off your list. And you're right about looking at patterns. We all do that whether it's for the quilting you both do or the crocheting that all of us do. And I hope that you, also, stay nice and warm in the horrible weather it sounds like you'll be getting.

Good morning! Its is rip roaring 10 degrees here this am. Absolutely winter here and this weekend there will also be some very cold nights. But its mid January and supposed to be this way. I heard there were bear sightings about a mile from my house, which is bad because the bear should be hibernating.
Phyl- good to hear from you - and glad you are ok. A stress fracture does not sound like a good thing but if you went to a quilt show then you must be doing ok. Hope that was a lot of fun for you and I bet it felt good to get out and do something “normal”. Would love to hear about it when you get a chance. So sad to learn of your friend Doris. No its not a horrible thing to hope that the Lord comes for her soon- but it sure is God’s will regarding when she passes and we have to pray for peace and grace for her and her family and that she is comfortable. So very hard for others to watch.
Ruth, so what color shawl did DGD choose? Sounds like you already have the right color yarn in your home. That is great! I hope that you can start it (or got it started last night) and are finding the pattern easy to work with. We have had this discussion before about youtube videos…think we have all seen the good, the bad and the ugly. Some videos seem like such waste of the viewers time, especially the really long winded ones that are non productive. Hopefully you can find a video that works or helps. I wonder if you asked for a good video on the FB page that you visit for crocheters if someone could recommend good instructions. I know you will be fine figuring out the best way to add a zipper.
Think today I will hopefully finish the carpet tiles…and finish the fabric bag I started yesterday. Gotta catch up on a few bills and will try to get a very short walk in as its supposed to be so cold. Ginny

Phyl, I'm so sorry you fell and have a fracture. Did the doctors say why you would suffer a stress fracture. I know people suffer fractures in falls but a stress fracture is something different. I take it that it is supposed to heal on it's own. I hope it's not very painful. And no I don't at all feel that hoping and praying for someone who is suffering will soon go to be with the Lord. My own mother suffered from dementia caused by multiple strokes and I knew she wouldn't want to live that way so I also prayed for her to go to be with the Lord she loved so much and to meet again my little brother that passed when close to 6 months old. I'm sorry to hear that Doris is in such a bad way. She always was a lovely woman an was always there for her invalid husband and for her daughter and daughter's family.
Ginny I do, again, hope that you're staying nice and warm. Yes it is January and we have a lot of winter left yet.I hope, too, that you will be able to finish those tiles and the probably exceedingly beautiful bag you're working on in crewel. My dgd says she still likes shades of purple so I'm using the Red Heart ombre in that color. This pattern is another video from Fiber Spider who does great videos and is very good at exploaining things and showing how things are done. He's very encouraging too. He also does a whole repeat of the pattern rows so you don't have to go back and rewind. He's very personable also and a pleasure to watch. And he does not blabber endlessly about things off subject. He also designs most of the patterns he uses and someimes does a video using someone else's pattern that he's obtained permission to do. The patterns are sometimes unusual ones and interesting as is this shawl pattern. It's called Rustic Windows and looks difficult but really isn't.
I don't know if I mentioned that I found that one of my collector dolls is close to the size of dgd's doll so I didn't have to buy one after all.
CJ, I hope you're having a good day also
Prayers for your healing Phyl

Ruth, that is wonderful that you found a doll in your collection that is close enough to use as a model for DGD’s doll. Think that would bug me a lot to have to spend a lot of money on a doll just for that purpose. I remember in the past checking out fiber spider patterns or videos- and that you mentioned being impressed with them RH ombré sounds perfect for that shawl- and its just funny how some people pick a favorite color and it stays with them for a long long time. DGD will love this shawl for sure!!! I will have to check out the rustic windows video as it sounds like a pretty pattern. Love how you say it looks difficult but is not….its not difficult for a great crochetter like yourself. Me? Who knows!! You will do a great job with that pattern- and thank goodness for good youtubes and individuals who are good at explaining things. Thanks for more information on Doris…I will add her to my prayer list. And yes, I hope Phyl is not in any discomfort.
CJ- its cold in your general area too!! (Thankfully a bit warmer than where I am a few hundred miles north.). Hope you are staying warm and happy with what you are working on.
I did get some more carpet tiles down and now have to pay tiles that need to be cut- so these are the final tiles. I will most likely need a new threshold or two and might wait to cut those tiles till I know if I can reuse the existing thresholds. I did work a bit on the bag, but was tired by the time I resumed working on it.
Hope everyone is warm and having a good evening. Ginny

Well, got no crafting done today, but got some more carpet tiles in!! Think the remaining tiles should be pretty easy to cut or so I hope. I was able to use an existing threshold and it worked out fine. Hope everyone had a good day. Ginny

Good evening everyone. I hope you both had a good day
Phyl, thank you for that info. As a retired nurse I'm always interested in all things medical. I hope you're well on the way to complete healing.
Ginny, I'm glad you were able to use that same threshold. If you were not able to do that is it something you could do or would you have had to hire someone for that? And laying tiles seems like crafting to me
CJ, what are you working on now? Judging from all the things you have shown us I know it's something beautiful. I love seeing your quilts.
Today I made cinnamon rolls again. I don't think I ever made cinnamon rolls before a couple months ago and I've now made them, if I remember correctly, four times now. I probably make mine way too large.Tomorrow I'll make some main meal food.
I'm thinking of making this shawl just triangle scarf size. It might be something she's more likely to use than a large shawl and also I'd be almost done with it. In fact I could just put an edging on the neck edge and be done right after that but I may make a couple more rows. I think I have the one chosen for the other grandaughter but it's still between two patterns. Then what Fiber Spider calls his butterfly prayer shawl for ddil and I'll be done with birthday gifts for awhile and will work on doll clothes. The two patterns I'm considering for the second dgd are both by different designers and are both very nice
