Another week begins!! What is everyone working on this week??
Cause Dd stopped over last night- actually late afternoon, I got only as far as getting the binding secured with wonder clips. Thankfully I had enough of them to just go all around the quilt. Still not sure if I want to use a zig zag stitch to secure the binding or straight stitch. I did a good job on the binding thus far so I am not thinking of a zig zag to hide imperfections (which was my original thought). But as it is hard to keep things totally straight, I am wondering if a zig zag (a small one) might be nice. Guess I will do some research and see what others think.
Olympics were pretty good until I fell asleep. Some of what they showed (men’s luge) was a replay from the afternoon. But still fun to watch.
Time to get in the shower and get my day started!! Have a good one. Ginny

Hello Ginny - Hope work goes well today and that you can get the mat finished this week. Ruth - Hope your projects are coming along. Sue - Hope you are well. It's a cloudy day here, around 40 degrees so not too bad. I think we might get some rain, but not sure. The furnace actually worked almost normally last night and today so far, I'm pleasantly surprised Here are some pictures of what I worked on this past week - the 2 Sweet Dreams blocks, my Jan and Feb churn dash blocks (I'm not sure I'm happy with that Feb one, I might change it to have brown fabric in the pinwheel in the center - hopefully you can see that the pink fabrics inside the churn dash are different), and my red and aqua/teal blocks of the strips I had saved from last year (cut up into 4.5 inch pieces). When I was making those red and aqua/teal blocks I was thinking it was a pretty silly thing, but after I finished all of them, I figured that was about 1.5 yards of fabric that I would have just thrown away. I do think they will look a bit strange in a quilt, but I guess I'll see once I'm done this year. I think it will be easier just doing one color a month, now that I'm caught up with Jan-Feb colors. Take care everyone

Hello and happy new week to all.
We went to have our blood drawn today then stopped at a grocery store. They are very strict in the medical building. You absolutely have to use a mask and they screen you for temperature right inside the door. There weren't many people there and in fact I didn't see any other patients but it was close to noon. The person drawing blood did an excellent job. There weren't a whole lot of people in the grocery store either but more than at the medical building. Then I stopped at the mailbox to pick up this week's huge stack of junkmail. Everything is pretty much put away. We had our breakfast and now I'm going to crochet.
Ginny, I missed the page on last week's thread where you had the colors for your quilt. I saw that CJ had commented on the colors so I went back and looked. They're great. As far as the playmat, and I'm definitely not an expert in quilting, I think that a small zigzag would be really good choice.
CJ, again,I love your blocks. you have a great knack for choosing colors and patterns and I know I've said it before but every block you post shows your talent. I'm so glad to hear your furnace has been behaving and I do hope and pray that it continues to work well.
I'm sure glad that Meg invited me to join this group a few years back. You ladies are so great.I appreciate your friendship and am so thankful to have met you even though it's not in person.

Good Evening!
CJ- now I am a person who likes brown, and therefore would not change the colors in the churn dash blocks. Of course it is all personal preference ….so you will do what you want with them. Just sayin’ I think they are really pretty!! Yes, its easy to see that the brown and pink block has 2 different pinks. Very nice. I think its great that you used up all the fabrics you did- and without any other plans for those blocks it makes me wonder if they would make pretty potholders or use in a table runner. There are a lot of pretty fabrics and you did your usual lovely piecing….so I would be tempted to use those blocks in something- or even a pillow depending upon the size of the block!
Today was a babysitting day- and the little ones (while being very funny) were also pretty good for me. Last Monday I came home with a massive headache…and I feel fine today. Very thankful about that. Long story short, I am not babysitting this Wednesday, and will save finishing the play mat until then. I did find a good tutorial on finishing a binding with a zig zag stitch and I really want to give that a try. It looks so neat and I think might be a nice way to finish the play mat. I will have a high level discussion with Jane this evening and see what she thinks. I guess because I am making this for someone else I am a bit afraid ot trying something different like that. I am very thankful to have a quiet day to complete that work then.
Hope Ruth is having a good day….and Sue we would love to hear from you when you can check in. My crafting for the day was to check out a tutorial on how to zigzag stitch a binding.

How did I miss your post Ruth! Yes, Miss our Meg. what a sweet and special woman she was. Glad your blood work is done, Ruth, hope that the results are good. Did you get some crocheting in?
I might later on import the picture of the woman’s zigzagged quilt binding, which came out really well. Let’s hope mine does too if I get the nerve up to do that. G

Got an easy day tomorrow- so I will attempt what she did here on the play mat- looking carefully at it, she did a great job and it looks very nice, but its not perfect. So with that in mind, I will proceed- very cautiously.

Hello Ginny - Using a zigzag stitch for the binding looks interesting, I think it would work for a play mat. Please let us know how it goes. I'm glad the babysitting went well yesterday. Ruth - I'm glad your medical appointment went well and there weren't too many people there. I get tired of all the junk mail I get. It wouldn't be bad if I could just throw it in the trash, but I have to open it all and separate out what has my name and address on it, so I can shred those papers. It was around 40 here today and sunny. I was able to make a lot of progress on that quilt I started a few months ago. I have all the small blocks done, I just need to press them and join them into larger blocks, so I can make the quilt top. I'm hoping to get that done this week, since the only quilt along blocks will be for the Sweet Dreams quilt along. I'm going to wait a bit to decide if I want to change that one churn dash block. I'll see how the next few blocks go. If I did change it I would keep the brown outer churn dash, but just change the pinwheel part of the center block to brown and cream with and leave the pink triangles surrounding it. Hope you all get to do some crafting soon. Take care

CJ- I like the churn dash block as it is….depending upon what other blocks are going to be done, it might be neat to make another block using the colors as you have described (adding brown to the center pinwheel) but I really like it without any change. Glad you are enjoying some warmer weather. Has your furnace been behaving itself?

How did I not post on here today. I thought I did.
I did some cooking and baking again then was crocheting while waiting for a phone call I didn't receive. I'll do more crocheting this evening.
Ginny, I'm glad you have a quiet day tomorrow and will be able to go to the quilt store and also work with your fabrics that will arrive at your home.
CJ,I'm sure your block will look great if you change it but I also think it looks really good just the way it is. I'm looking forward to see it with future blocks.

Good morning! Ruth, its absolutely so totally frustrating waiting for a phone call that never arrives. Imagine if a business entity was waiting for a phone call from you and you never returned that call…if they depended upon us for that input, things might be different. It would be nice if that phone call came today.
I am actually hoping that the fabrics arrive at my house before I head to the quilt shop in case I need a different color thread. If not, I will make do with what thread I have in the house. I do not always use quilt shop thread…most of the time I do but sometimes I get lazy and use the coats and Clark’s thread I have in the house.
It took me forever to resolve getting money owed to me from paypal. Someone sent me money they owed me (I coordinated sending a fruit basket to someone in our study group who lost a close family member). It seemed to be too much like work to accept these funds. So frustrating. I finally succeeded this morning.

Hello Ruth - Hope you received your call eventually. Ginny - Hope the fabric came, did you get anything at the quilt shop? It was much milder here today, in the low 50s and sunny, so that's a nice change. The new pattern came out for the Sweet Dreams quilt along, and it was an easy one so I finished both of my blocks this morning. I also have the blocks for the other quilt pressed and I'm ready to start assembling the larger blocks. This pattern actually came with 2 patterns, so you could use the extra half square triangles in a second quilt. But I think I might use those HSTs for something different than the table runner pattern that I received. There are 96 of these 3 inch HSTs, so there are several ways I could go with using them. I'm still thinking about it. Here are my 6 blocks for the Sweet Dreams quilt along - floral and lighthouse: Take care

CJ- LOVE the sweet dreams quilt along….and I guess cause of all the sweet florals, I really love the floral version. SO pretty
Yes, my fabric came and I bought thread at the quilt shop to assist with when I get to work on it. I did give a test run of zig zag on the play mat (using extra fabric) and was ready to go start sewing and then Ds came home ( almost 3 hours late from work). So I caught up with him and now its time for bed.
Have a great night
