Ruth, did you end up getting much snow? Looks like you are still in the middle of winter!! Did you ever get to spend some time crocheting? And how about those 4 skein sets of yarn that you have, did you figure out how to use them in afghans?
Slept ok, I guess, last night. Wish I had slept another hour, but that is not an option for this morning.
On my walk yesterday, I encountered someone who is running for trustee in the town I live in. She engaged me in conversation….which was interesting for sure. One of my bellyaches was in reference to an article in the local paper, where all the candidates (including this one) was asked how important global warming was, in other words, how green this town should be. It was an interesting conversation, and I actually got the idea that perhaps this person approaches the issue with some sanity, while still embracing a desire to reduce our carbon footprint. The election is next week.
Today might be a day of slime making as the weather is supposed to be transitional. Think winter returns tonight.
Have a good day! Ginny

They say its supposed to make it to the mid 60’s today. Not sure I believe that as I have a chill. I did bring my embroidery with me, but it looks like I will not get a chance to do that - both kids are way off their nap schedule, so I have to slug through the rest of the day. Weekends are tough on little ones, with the whole family home all routine goes out the door and regular naps are not always kept on schedule. Its pretty typical for a Monday.
Looks like the rain will hold off for awhile.
I have not gotten an email that my second PMQ mailing is enroute yet but I would think it should be sent out soon.

Ginny, it sounds like your dd's do have a nap schedule and therefore probably a sleep schedule for the night also but, yes the weekend, I'm sure, throws everything off. I've noticed that most young women nowdays don't keep a schedule for their children and spend a lot of time on social media complaining that the children won't go to sleep or even to bed as the parent or parents would like...well, there's got to be some consistency which most children nowdays don't have. Parents don't realize that they're the parent and children don't dictate to them. It's refreshing to hear that your daughters do this. My son and his wife had a routine. My daughter never did with her children and it was always chaos in her home. Sorry though that your grands are off schedule today and you have no "recovery" time. I hope you get that package with your new month block material soon. I forgot to tell you that I finally bought a kit from Mary Maxim and had free shipping. The only problem is that I was so busy thinking of free shipping that I forgot to look at the color options and I think I ended up with a green color that I don't really care for. I haven't opened the package yet to see what it looks like. Mary Maxim has a free coupon for shipping today if anyone wants to order from there and I see that Joann's has a sale on cotton fabric and fat quarters if anyone needs fabric.
CJ, I imagine you're either busy making blocks or putting beautiful quilt tops together.

Ruth - what kit did you order from MM?? Glad you were able to swing free shipping from them. I figure its something they must do around this time of year, as this is when I bought the yarn for DD and DSIL’s afghan, which I have to do a lot of work on. Think I got it on sale and with free shipping. I do like MM kits….hope you are happy with yours. Yes, I was pretty strict with nap time with my kids and saw that as she went on to have more kids that Dd became more interested in standard nap times for her kids. Honestly the little ones were off schedule, but their naps did overlap a little bit so I got some recovery time (not much). Dd was very good at establishing a quiet hour with her oldest too- so that while the little ones slept the older ones had to just be quiet and read. DD#2 is working hard on getting her little one into a nap schedule, and it seems to be working.
Got home and my next package of fabric is here! Probably will not get to play with it until the weekend but that is ok.
Got a call that my gas tank is arriving tomorrow, so the new heater will finally be able to be used. Very excited about that.
And while I try not to go political here… forgive me for this one deviation. I just emailed my 2 senators, congressman and the president to implore them to stop buying oil from Russia and to reopen the keystone pipeline. Gas at the cheap station jumped up to $4.14 a gallon just today….10 cents in one day. It was a sane email….and I asked that they also come up with a comprehensive plan to reduce our dependence upon oil period. But this cold turkey approach, and buying oil from a militaristic maniac who shows no regard for human life is just plain wrong. And now I will step off my soapbox.
CJ- how is your day going?
Sue have you had any luck finding help with housework?
Have a good night all G

Hello Ginny - Are you happy with how your first block turned out? I hope you get the second one soon. Maybe you get the warmer weather tomorrow, it's in the high 70s here today. Ruth - I hope that you might like the green color in the kit when you open it up. Thanks for the info on the sales. It has been windy today but that seems to be dying down and we're supposed to get some rain. I had put out my yard waste brown bags on Saturday afternoon for pickup today, but they didn't come so I had to go out and bring them back in from the road. I saw the truck across the street, but either it didn't come down my road or it passed me by. I'd already had to go and move them where they were blowing out into the road. This is just a gripe - but it can't be that difficult to do that job this time of year before most people don't have bags to put out. All they have to do is drive up and down the roads and look for the brown bags (which we have to put yard waste in). Gripe over I did get some quilting done today - put the two inner borders on my Sweet Dreams quilt blocks so I'm ready for the next step this Wednesday, made some more HSTs to make the Delectable Mountain blocks (pictures of my test blocks attached) and I'll see how many more of them I can make with what is left of the fabric. The green fabric is more of a blue-green color, and this is the layout that I would really love to do. I might be able to make enough of them to do the inner border and the next one - that would take 24 blocks. www.freequiltpatterns.info/free-pattern---delectable-mountains-with-star-by-anne-breneman.htmI also made two of the String Beans blocks and I'm happy with them. The fabric in the center (and picture showing close up) was a fat quarter that I've had for years. I'm going to make 4 of each version of the String beans blocks in the picture (I put light fabrics around the center in one, and dark fabrics around the center in the other) and I'll have 8 blocks and I'll make up something for the last one so I can have 9 blocks total. Take care

CJ, of course your blocks are beautiful. I love the lighthouse quilt but I do love lighthouses although I haven't seen one in years since I became landlocked. I'm glad you found a way to use that fat quarter that you've had for some time. I think it's terrible that that truck passed by without picking up what you had at the curb.I had a similar experience a couple years ago only it lasted for 4 weeks before I had to call them 3 times in order to get my garbage picked up. I know have a new company as we have to pay for garbage pickup and the really bad part is that none of the companies have plans that enable customers to put out anything they consider hazardous waste which includes things that you wouldn't think of as hazardous. Well Ginny, I'm glad you got some downtime even though it wasn't very long. And I agree with you 100% that we should not be buying oil from Russia!! What kind of stupid plan is that. We shouldn't be dependent on any other country for oil. We have plenty of our own. This situation will probably not change the plans of those in charge who thought up the idea of closing the Keystone pipe line and buying oil from someone else. I hear that Russia is negotiating with Venezuela for their oil. WW3 here we come But we, as Christians, know who is in charge and that all this will work to furthur His plan for the human race. Last night I started a market bag for my ddil as one of her bday gifts. It's a filet stich bag with a solid heart in the middle. They do a lot of shopping at farm places so can use bags like this. Of course I messed it up a little so had to rip out several rows but am now back on track. Ginny, considering the state of the world, I bought a kit that has a cross and dove and says Peace. I still haven't opened it. I actually had the coupon for free shipping from when I had things in my cart that I didn't end up buying. When they saw I hadn't put my order through they sent me the coupon. I thought it wouldn't still work but I tried it and it did so I'm happy. I think the color is a light sage green. They have a free shipping coupon right now until midnight tonight but I won't be buying anything right now. They'll have it again. I still want that Christmas one

Good afternoon everyone. Dh and I had a doctor app't for today but weather forecast called for 5 inches of snow. We haven't received that much yet. It's only snowing lightly but I didn't want to end up on the other side of town and have to drive home in a raging snowstorm. It's looking bad towarn the mountain so it will be here soon. I'll have to find something useful to do now that we're staying home.
I'm still working on the market bag because I wasn't doing the one stitch correctly so pulled out all the rows that were in the filet heart section.
I forgot to mention,CJ, that I love that delectable mountain quilt. I don't think I've ever seen one before
What are you working on today?

Good afternoon!!
Ruth, think is it’s wise idea that you and your husband stayed home today with 5 inches of snow coming. I hope you can reschedule the doctors appointment for another day in the not too distant future. It just stinks when you have a doctors visit like that hanging over your head. I’m sure you were able to find something useful to do, even if that’s something useful is another crochet project! I’m sure that market bag will be well used and enjoyed by your daughter-in-law. And it’s a great idea that you made that for her. So many places now want you to use recyclable bags like that anyway, that it’s a good idea. Is that made with a cotton yarn or synthetic?
CJ-well what a pain in the neck that they wouldn’t pick up your yard debris. Here I have to do the same thing I have to use the paper bags, and then you do have to hope that they actually come and pick it up. How much work is that? And you went through all of the effort to have it properly bagged so that they would take it. Frustrating. I went to a lecture a few years ago on antique quilts and the lecturer said that you were able to put a date on most quilts by the fabric that was used to make them. In other words certain fabric patterns were only available during certain periods of time. I wonder how long you’ve had that really adorable teapot fabric, the one you used for the center of the string bean blocks! I’m so glad you were able to find a way to use that fabric. You’ve been very busy putting on borders and finishing up quilt tops. And those delectable Mountains quilt is a little different than the one I had originally searched on the Internet and saw. I like that your block has more light colored fabric in it and not such a high concentration of color. I think it’s gonna be very pretty.
Early this morning I got to my daughters, packed up the two little ones and brought them back to my town so they could go to the park. We were the only ones there which was what I had hoped for, and then had a good time running around at the park getting some fresh air. I did come back home with them, and the gas tank was delivered for my heater. So now that is all set. I didn’t sleep all that well last night, so I’ll go downstairs tonight and enjoy watching television in that room. Not sure I will get to any crafting this evening.
My temps dropped 20 degrees from yesterday and we are scheduled for some snow tomorrow, but not a lot.
Hope everyone has a good day. Ginny

Hello Ruth - Hope you don't get too much snow, sorry your DH couldn't go to his appointment. I wouldn't want to be stuck somewhere either. Ginny - I'm sure your grandkids love playing in the park and it is good to get fresh air. I'm happy for you that your gas tank was delivered, so it that all you need know and you can use the heater? I hope so. Sue - Hope you are well. It's a lot colder here today, was in the 40s this morning and around 50 now. I went out this morning to get some groceries and mail the one bill that I can't pay online. When I got home I couldn't find the two store grocery cards I used and I'm sure I slid them back into my purse after scanning them at the checkout. It just bugs me that I "lost" them somehow. Then I worry about them being lost in the store, but they don't have my name on them and the only way someone could use them to get into my account online would be to know my email address. Hopefully if they are found they will just be thrown out. I lost another one years ago and now I just punch in my phone number at that store when I go there. I was complaining to someone that I just wish they would price everything as sale or regular and quit with these irritating store cards I doubt I'll do any quilting today, going out this morning and the "card stuff" has worn me out Take care

CJ- that store card happens to me a bit- and I did actually get a new wallet about 6 months ago to help me keep them straightened out. I totally and completely agree. Why do they not just lower the prices and also skip these darned digital coupons which you have to go online to down load? Take a deep breath….and I hope that by now you have taken apart your wallet and purse ( or even your coat or pants pockets ) and found the two cards. Perhaps they were turned into customer service at the store, that is another possibility. I wonder what your weather is like today- I just checked my phone and at least for my friend in Gaithersburg MD, its a cold rainy day. Bet that it why you got your errands done, so that you can stay home and quilt.
All schools ( or the schools that I am impacted by) are closed today as we are supposed to get 4 inches of snow. It has not started snowing yet, its supposed to start soon and snow all day. Believe me I am not heartbroken over a day at home.
Yes, CJ my stove is all set up and running. They only gave me a partial tank of propane, but they will deliver the rest of the tank (fill it up) sometime this week.
BBL- have a great day Ginny

WEll it ended up we did get quite a bit of snow. It's at least five inches. The only thing is it didn't start snowing until about 4pm so we would have been home by then. We rescheduled and had no choice but to take an early (to me) morning appointment which I absolutely hate but she is a very busy doctor and rarely has openings. My thermometer says it's 41 degrees but it actually is 9. I have another indoor/outdoor thermometer that says it's 86 and while I like the sound of that it sure is not measuring the temp anywhere around here. Some days it's gone up to 107. I have no idea where it's getting those temps from. I did work on the market bag last evening. Dh wanted to know what it was working on and I told him. He said he liked it and that it's Ukraine colors. I didn't realize that it was.
Ginny, I bet you're going to enjoy your unexpected day off. I bet you already have plans for that time. I hope you can work on your new block but I hope you don't get too much snow. Did the repair people bring your repaired snow blower back?
CJ, I hope you got in the foods you need for during the potential bad weather and have found some great fabric in your stash to work on.

Ruth, for me, a late afternoon appointment is like an early morning appointment to you. Anyway I am glad you got an appointment, as that it sounds challenging to do so. Do you have a weather app on your phone or tablet? Sounds like that might be a better gauge of temperature than what you have at home. With temps as extreme as you get, I would think that is challenging for any temperature measuring device. Glad you are making the market bag in Ukraine colors!!! I do pray for the Ukrainian people….such a heartbreaking situation.
My friends stopped over to see the stove….one of my cats has decided she loves to sit on the chair nearby the stove. Guess she is not too stupid!!! So my day has not been entirely how I thought it would be, and that is ok. I did get some housework done this am. It will make my Saturday easier for sure. Its been a bit of a lazy day for me. Maybe I can get some embroidery in later on.
CJ- hope your day is going well GInny

Hello Ruth - Hope you don't get anymore snow and that you stay warm. I've cancelled things based on the weather and then it turns out they had the weather wrong! I'm glad you were able to get another appointment and hope it isn't too bad going in the morning. Ginny - I'm glad you are getting to use your stove, I bet it feels good in this colder weather we are getting. Hope you don't have any problems from the snow and I'm glad you don't have to drive in it. Sue - Hope you are well. It's raining here today and around 40 degrees, I'm just glad we don't have any ice/snow to deal with. We've had some bad ice storms in March over the years. Between that and the windy weather, I'm always glad when March is over. I haven't done any quilting today since I'm trying to brace myself to make the 80 Half Square Triangles needed for the next step in Pat Sloan's Sweet Dreams quilt. I have to do 40 for each quilt. I've been looking around on the Internet and I think I'll just do the Magic 8 method, so I'll only need to cut 5 squares of fabric to get my 40 HSTs for each quilt. I think I've decided on the colors too. I'm getting worried I won't have enough fabric of the ones I'm using to finish this quilt, but I sure hope I do. I guess I could bring in some new fabrics for the larger outer blocks. I think I'll be O.K. with the lighthouse version, but I'm worried about running out of the red, cream and the peach fabric for the floral version. I may have to take the peach fabric with me to JoAnn's and maybe a quilt shop to see if I can match it. I can probably find a red and a cream from my stash to work if I run out of those. Some people making the Sweet Dreams quilt already went ahead and added the second border, not realizing that the border would have HSTs around it. I feel for them if they decide to rip it all out. I've learned not to go ahead with Pat Sloan's quilt alongs. It's better to wait for her instructions and watch her videos. I was watching some videos today and this one is interesting for a Delectable Mountain block using a 10 inch square and only cutting the block into 3 strips, instead of the 4 strips I see most of the time. I like the look of this one and might try it for a larger quilt if I ever make one. www.youtube.com/watch?v=0RuuWRdIhCIThere are some neat and short videos to watch on this quilter's channel in case you are interested in looking at some of them. She doesn't talk, just plays music and shows how to make the block. I've had her book on my list to buy for a few years now, I should just go ahead and buy it. www.youtube.com/c/TeresaDownUnder/videosTake care
