Good morning! As I set us up for the week, I noticed that next Sunday is the first day of spring.. I already have a few gardening projects planned, one of them is to camouflage the propane tank. The least expensive Option is to divide an ornamental grass I have and use some of that. I also have some white lattice that I can cut and make a partial enclosure. But that is for spring….and thankfully I will not be able to really work outside for awhile. I tire quickly of gardening….just plain dislike it.
Ruth and I posted pretty much at the same time last night…and yes I got some quilting time in yesterday cutting more batting for the QAYG quilt.
See ya later- have a good morning.

Hello Bonjour Ginny - Merci pour commencement our thread for the week That's the extent of my high school french Hope everyone is doing well today. We have a sunny day here, with temps in the low 60s. It looks like it's going to be a mild week, and I'm happy to get to cut off the furnace (or at least use it less) since it's been a miserable winter dealing with it. I finished my String Bean quilt today and it's alright. I don't care for this type of scrappy block, even though mine is not that scrappy and it's an odd size 12.5 x 15.5 inches. I didn't mind making them though, since it's basically a log cabin block. Now I need to work on the rest of my yellow scraps for the Rainbow Scrap Challenge to get them finished. And I've pulled out a layer cake and a jelly roll, since Pat Sloan is doing a layer cake quilt along for National Quilt Day this week and a jelly roll quilt next week. I like the patterns for these, so it will be good to use some of my precuts. Hope you all have nice weather and get to do some crafting. Take care

Good evening Ginny and CJ CJ, I'm glad that you were able to finish the string bean quilt and it sounds like you have this week's quilting all planned out.we will have a mild weather week here too but not as warm as your's for sure I didn't get any crocheting in yesterday at all but did look at the crochet groups so I guess I did some crafting. This evening I will crochet. I spend a lot of the day doing the usual...more cleaning and some sorting. I can't believe how dusty it gets under the vanity sink i the bathroom. I took everything out and cleaned it.This week will be a week of taking care of some business matters and I hope to get in more cleaning time. Ginny, so you have planned what all you're going to grow this year? I always have big plans for yardwork but I get over that quick . I really do need to work on it this summer. Last summer I didn't even plant any flowers. See you all later

We have beautiful weather today. Tomorrow I will start looking for the first of the robins. We'll have more winter into late May, but this is a good beginning.
Nothing new here. Still need help. Too much TV time while hb dozes! I do a little bit and then sit and rest a while. I'm falling behind, but then I'm not expecting company!

Sue, good to hear from you!!! I know you are considerably further north than I am…but I have robins here and have seen them for several weeks. Hope you see some soon!!!
Ruth, it always amazes me how dirty things can get and how dusty even with only two people.Glad you got that straightening out done- and I hope that you are able to get some crochet time in.
CJ- is it national quilt day this week?? Thanks for the reminder!! I hope that you got something out of the process of the string bean quilt. I am sorry that you are not totally in love with the final project…but then you have always mentioned that scrappy quilts are not to your taste. Perhaps the layer cake quilt will be something that you really love.
Busy day for me…I had a dentist appointment at the end of the day for a routine cleaning. Got to bible study this evening too and am finally settling in for the night. Ruth I do know pretty much what I am planting. What I will start early are watermelons , cucumbers and there was something else, think it was in the Melon family. I have to check my seeds and see the ones I have separated out. I only bought a small amount of seed starter cups and figure around April 1 I will plant those seeds. Think the rest of the week gets easier…. Hope everyone has a good night.
OH, CJ- I remember a tiny amount of my high school french, comprenez- vous?

I took French in high school too but don't remember a lot of it. When I do see something written in French I sometimes can figure out what it says. I do remember the words of the song Sur le pont, d'avingnon. One of my French teachers had us sing in French a lot. Only time I ever got in trouble in school was in the second year of French. The teacher spent most of her time talking about her son...in English. I was so bored I was reading Gone with the Wind in class and she caught me.
I'm crocheting but only working on a blanket that's done in the C2c with little . It was here in my bedroom so I just grabbed it and am working on that and not getting things done that I wanted to get done by the end of the month but another goal I had was to use up some of my enormous stash so it works.
Ginny, I didn't know you could grow watermelons in NY. I'd love to grow some cantalopes and I know you can grow those there. But you remember my problem with vine plants.

Bonjours mes amis!
Ruth, about 10 years ago, my husband (who had some survivalist tendencies) and I found Baker creek seed company. They sell a ton of different seeds and a lot of unique varieties. And they used to sell a survivalist package - an assortment of seeds which cover the gamut of vegetables and are varieties that should grow in the buyers area. (BTW, since Covid, they have not been able to keep that survivalist package in stock). We bought that package 2X- once about 8 years ago, and the second 2 weeks before Dh passed. I finally decided to open that package (the seeds are guaranteed to last 2-5 years, I think). And a really funky watermelon is in the package. I will give it a try and start the plants early
Warm temps here today….hope that today is a bit less busy for me.
See ya later. Ginny

Good morning Ginny, CJ, and Sue.
Sue I'm glad to see you. I'm sorry you haven't been able to find any help yet.
Yes with only two of us in our household it really surprises me how many dishes there are to wash, How often the kitchen floor needs sweeping, etc. Every since most of the trees on the mountain burnt up in 2006 dust has been really bad as the wind sweeps overy the open land and brings the dust down here. My dh also has survivalist tendencies but, and I bet your dh did the same, calls it being sensible and prepared for emergencies. I one time ordered a sample of an MRE type meal from a company like that. I don't remember them having seeds but I bet they did. We never ordered anything from then. We have bought large cans of dehydrated foods from Augason farms. Things like dried milk, powdered cheese, peanut butter powder, veggies, etc. They came in handy during the pandemic when we didn't want to risk the virus.WE also stock up when things are on sale. I remember CJ saying she stocks up on things on sale too...things she uses a lot.My dh's sisters are interesting shoppers. One sister has tuna once a week for instance and each week she buys one can no matter the price. If it's $2 she buys a can and if it's on sale for $1 she will still only buy one can.
It's bright and sunn here today but the "W" word...horrible wind. I'm glad it's not our week for garbage pickup. Today is the day and the can would never stay in place if we put it out there.
I did work on that little c2c blanket last night but really didn't get far.I have to get my list out and find out what I really should be working on.
I'm going to go do that now...See you all later and have a great day. Oh and Ginny, yes it sure sounds like you got a lot done yesterday

Hello Everyone Ginny and Ruth - Oui, je comprends I can still recite some numbers, the days of the week, months, etc. from my French classes. I also like to try to figure out what something says when I see it written in french. Ginny - Hope today was less busy for you than yesterday. Ruth - Hope you were able to do some crochet around the work in the house. Sue - Hope you see some robins soon. I went out this morning to run a few errands and I stopped in JoAnn's. I was looking for a 6 or 6.5 inch square ruler, since I never bought one of those. I found the ruler, so I was happy to get that. I've recently been trimming some half square triangles using a square ruler instead of the speciality rulers I have and I liked it just as well and maybe better. I bought a few fabrics, but didn't find some I was hoping to find. I had bought a pretty red fabric from there, but it was probably years ago. I'm using it in the Floral Sweet Dreams quilt and I'm afraid I'm going to run out of it. The same with the peach/coral fabric, which is very old so I know I can't find it anywhere. So I'll have to decide how I'm going to go forward with making the rest of the blocks - trying to see if my fabric lasts or going with new fabrics. I also bought some outer space/galaxy like fabrics since I've become obsessed with this quilt along that Pat Sloan did several years ago. I like the chain blocks and the stars. I wasn't following her then, but I really like the layout of this quilt and might try and make it with these fabrics: blog.patsloan.com/2019-out-of-this-world/Hope you all get to do some crafting today and that your having nice weather. It's around 70 and sunny here today. Take care

Good evening……
CJ - the out of this world quilt is adorable!!! Hope that you found the perfect space/galaxy fabrics for it, the quilt looks like a lot of fun and others have had a lot of fun making it. What color scheme will you be following? Glad you stopped in Joanns- and I know from experience that having the right ruler can really make a big difference in ease of cutting. I remember buying a 12 inch square ruler when I made my BOM and it made the task of cutting all those blocks so much easier.
Ruth- one thing my pastor once said about MRE’s- which was they are great….as long as you do not have to eat them! I do keep a fair amount of stockpiled food - not a ton- but if I did not go to the store for awhile it would be ok. Funny about the canned tuna and your SIL- nope, I buy on sale unless I am desparate and NEED that item. And I do like to buy stuff on sale. Speaking of growing things…well sort of, I can start my snap peas this weekend. Will have to see what the weather is like, and I might plant the seeds. They do not grow well in hot weather, its a very short season. Glad you got some work on the C2C blanket…but I suppose following the list might be best. How high do the winds get in your area?? Seems like it is a very normal occurrence.
today was an easier day….I did take in the taps from the maple trees and will no longer be collecting sap for this year to boil down to syrup. (Which is a lot of work but fun). So that was my crafting for the day as I had little ones. Got them outside, as it was nice weather - low 60’s. I might get to. HL tomorrow…will see how that goes.
I remember a tiny bit from my ALM french tapes (which we listened to in the beginning to supplement classroom lessons). Guess a few numbers, colors…phrases. As I chose to go the science route in HS - I concentrated on math and science and dropped French my senior year as I found it a bit boring.
Hope everyone has a great evening. Ginny

I actually went the science route also but heard that you needed a language so I took two years of Latin and two of French along with chemistry, biology, advanced biology etc.
It's still way too early here to start even the early crops. I wish we could start sooner. I'm glad your day was less busy Ginny.I hope you can get to Hobby Lobby. I'd like to go there too but...well I really have to stay away from buying more yarn.
CJ, that Out of This World quilt is so cute.
I'm kind of tired from all the work I did today.I did more cleaning and sorted out medications and got rid of all the expired ones, and helped dh with some things. Now it's rest and crochet

Good morning all. The sun finally came out so it's a great day even if a little colder than yesterday
CJ, I'm glad that you were able to take care of your errands and also stop at Joann's and fnd fabric that will work so nicely in your Out of This World quilt. I'm sorry though that you couldn't find the fabric you were looking for to complete the other quilt so I hope you will have enough in your stash to finish it.
Ginny, this must be another busy day for you as you usually start us for the day.
I worked on my c2c blanket last evening and this morning I'm working on a toy. I had a couple game type toys on my list to make for when the children visit but kind of forgot about it. The one is called a Bibliocatch which is a little cup with handle and a string holding a ball and you swing the ball up and try to catch it in the cup. I have a couple more I was thinking of making also but probably won't get to those right now. One is a set of open crochet boxes of various colors and you try to throw a ball into each one and get a score with the number that is either crocheted and put into the box or just put in the boxes written on a piece of paper. YOu then, of course try to get the highest score. I think there was another but I don't remember right now what it is.

Yeah another busy day for me….I had to babysit again but was able to start a bit later today. I wish I could say it was great sleeping in late….I only slept a little bit later. Kids were good and I had them outside a lot. DGS#2 was practically falling asleep outside. Fresh air is so good for them. My crafting today was making indoor s’mores with the little ones. An easy treat to make, and fun too. And we played with homemade slime outside..
Ruth, where do you find these cute crochet ideas??? Never have heard of biblocatch nor that set of crochet boxes. But it sounds like a great idea. Do you use a crochet stuffed ball or is it necessary to purchase a ball? Who is the C2C afghan for?
Did not get to HL- I am waiting to hear from them about the framing job I left there. I do need to see if they have batting on sale - wonder if I am better off buying batting from them or Joanns.
Hope everyone had a great day Ginny

Ginny, yes it does sound like a busy day.I'm glad the grandchildren were good for you. It sounds like the little guy got all tuckered out playing out in the fresh air. Sorry Hobby Lobby hasn't notified you that the framing is done. As for the batting, you could look it up online and see how much it is at each store.
The ball for the bibliocatch is also crocheted. To give it a little weight you put a coin inside wrapped in batting. I think the kids are going to love this and I bet even the older ones and even the parents will try it. I'm sure I will.I'm not really making the c2c blanket for anyone. I think I'll put it in my box of blankets to donate. It's going to be pretty in Red Heart ombre in purple and I think I'll put on a white border. Now I'm looking at patterns for chunky yarn blankets. I have so much Lion brand wool ease thick and quick and also Hometown. I need to use it up/ I've seen some good suggestions so went to look at my super chunky yarn again and I have a lot of some great colors that will go well together
CJ, what have you been working on today...the space quilt or the other you mentioned yesterday? I hope your day was a good one.
