Hello Cj and also to Ginny and Sue. CJ, it sounds like you have a good system and plan for organizing your fabrics. And, of course when we order online we have to do just what you did...buy some extras. Of course, seriously, better to buy now than wait for the prices to go up which they surely will. I hope you don't get the storm that has been predicted.
The weather here is ok. It's warm enough but there's no sun. Even though it's not bright and sunny it's not dark and gloomy looking either. I spent the morning, not working on Yoda as I should but making some granny hexagons. They're always showing sweaters made this way...folding two hexagons....so I thought I'd try it on a doll sweater. It took me approx 2 hours to do the first hexagon and they are really small. After I finally got my act together it took me about 10 minutes to make the second one. Now all you do is fold them and seam the back together and put on edging around the whole thing and little cuffs on the sleeves. It also doesn't make a very long sweater so before the edging you can make a couple rows to make it longer. The whole thing should take a person maybe a half hour. I guess if I make more than this one, and I probably will, it won't take me very long. I've seen adult sweaters made this way but I don't think I'll be making one for myself.
Dh and I were going to shop today but he was too tired so I didn't go out either. We'll go another day or I'll go by myself. We just need a couple things from there.
Oh, did either of you get a survery from the Census Bureau? I got one in email today but am always suspicious of things emailed.

CJ- you are far more organized than I am….I use leaders and Enders but use whatever scraps I have that work. Glad you ordered the fabrics that you think you will need, better safe than sorry. Did you get those 3 blocks made?? And I also hope that the strong storms pass you by- not sure how this system is traveling, but I know that the heavy winds have passed me and I have some rain now.
Ruth, you always amaze me when you take on new projects like the granny hexagon! I will have to check out pictures of the granny hexagon sweaters to see what they look like. Are they a pain in the neck to make? Hope you get those few items picked up from the store….sometimes it easier to go by yourself. Yes, I have gotten surveys from the Census Bureau in the mail. Go on their web site to confirm that you have a legitimate survey before you proceed. I got a survey several years ago that seemed very invasive to me, and unfortunately I was required to complete it.
Today was well, interesting. It ended with Jane being “in a funk” so we went for a walk- which kept me from getting to any fabric. I think I will get a bit of the fabric cut for the QAYG- and hope that in the next day or so I can get to some stitching.
Sue, you are missed and I hope that you are doing well Ginny

Ruth - I haven't gotten anything from the Census Bureau - but I did a search and saw this: www.census.gov/data/experimental-data-products/household-pulse-survey.htmlI'm with you though and I'm always suspicious about responding to things like this. Glad to hear your weather is O.K. and you tried a new project. Ginny - Sorry you didn't get to work with your fabric, but hopefully you enjoyed the walk. So far it looks like I missed the bad weather. The winds have died down and the radar looks like all the rain/storms moved to the northeast. That was a nice surprise. I was able to get the block made for the Moda Blockheads quilt along, and hope to get the other two blocks made by tomorrow. I'd like to get the rest of that fabric sorted out and stored nicer than it is so maybe I can work on that tomorrow too. I'll post pictures once I get all 3 blocks made. It's kind of a hassle opening up Postimages and dealing with posting the pictures, so I like to try to do it all at once. Take care and have a good evening

I'm glad the storm has passed both of you so you don't have to worry about high winds damaging anything or too much rain. I hope your rain is not too bad.I'm glad you got your drainage problem taken care of, Ginny, so there is no more water coming in and glad that you, CJ, had that new roof put on a couple years ago. We're supposed to get a little snow tonight.
Ginny, the hexagons are actually easy to crochet and the rest of the sweater is no problem either. Some people have made some really pretty sweaters with this method while others just seem so loose and baggy. I have a youtube video that show how to make them in all sizes from infant to adult so if any of the grandaughters like them and want one for themselves I'm all set to make them one. I'm sorry to hear that your friend Jane was in a "funk". I hope she feels better by now
CJ, I agree that postimages is kind of a pain to use and since I haven't used it in a long time I'd really have to review how it works. I understand why you would want to wait and post several pictures at once. And I'm sure Ginny would agree with me that we both love seeing your pictures so we appreciate the effort you go to to show them to us.

Good morning! Yes post images is a bit awkward (but thanks Cj for figuring out how to use it!) and its better than nothing.
Jane is out of her funk. Our walk and a little chat was all she needed.
Yes I did get to cut some fabric last night- hope to get back to it this am.
See ya later. Ginny

That inks CJ I did it’s similar to the type of information they were asking of me about four or five years ago. To me it seems a lot more invasive than the normal census information which is only one page long. If I was Ruth I would contact the Census Bureau and see if this is a mandatory survey that she’s being asked to complete. It does seem as though they randomly select some households for these additional surveys.

Checked the census info- they are taking some sort of Household Pulse Survey- that is supposed to take 20 minutes to complete and address the impact of Covid 19 on lifestyles/households. I remember the survey that was mailed to me, they indicated that I had to complete it, or they would continue to try to contact me.

Hello It's cooler here today, in the 50s. We did have some heavy rain overnight, but not strong storms. Speaking of the Census Bureau, the 1950 Census has been released. Here's a link: 1950census.archives.gov/?utm_campaign=1950census-april2022&utm_medium=email&utm_source=newsletterI've already started looking for my parents and two older brothers, but the search is a bit more difficult than the 1940 census, since it seems like they have grouped people into Enumeration Districts instead of writing street addresses (like on the 1940 one). I like things like this, and I think it's so neat to be able to the name of family on the census. If I can live 10 more years maybe I'll be able to see my own name on the census I finished the two blocks for the Sweet Dreams quilt along this morning, so I'll post pictures of them and the Moda blocks. For the Moda block #2 I added some brown fabric in the corners, so I'll have to see how this works going forward. For the Sweet Dreams lighthouse version I think I'm going to go with the red, white (off white) and blue fabric in all the blocks. The floral block I used the peach/coral for the background (this peach/coral block is for you Ginny ). I don't know if I do that for all for all of them, but maybe for a few more. This floral basket block was a bit tricky since it used squares cut in half in a few places. I had to rip out a few partial seams because I turned one of the half square triangles at the base of the basket the wrong way I have two large storage totes of fabric to go through, so I pulled everything out of one of them this morning but didn't get it all sorted - this one hold 108" wide fabric, and material that I designated for backing and binding for quilt tops that are already made. I also have several fabric groupings in here and I've got to figure out a way to deal with these. I have a few bunches of 3 yards of fabrics, so I need to make some of those 3 yard quilts. I'd sure like to get all this organized and make a list of what I have so that I can actually work on some projects instead of getting so distracted starting new things Hope you all get to do some crafting today and that your weather is nice. Take care

CJ, I've looked up those census reports too and found family. They're so interesting. I love all your blocks but my two favorites are the one in the upper right with the brown in the corners and the one on the lower left in the red, white and blue. You'll be very pleased with your results after you finish organizing all your fabric in a way that works best for you.
Ginny, I'm glad that Jane felt better after walking and chatting with you. You do have a great knack for making people feel better. I'm glad you got to work on your blocks.
It did snow here but maybe an inch or even less. It's pretty much all melted now. I found a site the other day called TLC Designs. She has amazing patterns. Unfortunately they are all for sale not free but I may have to buy one or two. I'm waiting though because I don't know when I'd get to them. I wish I didn't have plans for the immediate future and could just sit and crochet them. Oh and they are all charts not actual written out patterns so I'd just try one and see how that went. I did some cooking this morning and still want to make biscuits. Dh cut up meat for beef stew and also put meat in the instant pot for a pot roast. I did a lot of peeling of veggies for both
I just roasted one of those really large marshmallows on a fork over my stove burner. It was so good! Yes I'm weird.
Do either of you like Spam? I love it fried and put between two pieces of regular bread, not toasted and with mustard. I have a very dear friend that I met on the old WW board years ago that likes it too and made the same way.

Ruth, do you like the instant pot? My DD#1 has one and loves hers. Think for now it’s a good idea to look at those patterns and consider working on one in the fall. Sounds like you have a lot of projects planned and this might be a very busy time of year for you
CJ- I like all the blocks! Is the basket block difficult to make? I have seen that pattern before but never took it on. I am so happy that you are enjoying looking into the census. It sounds like fun- wonder what neat information you are able to find. Have fun doing your research!
Got a lot of fabric cut this afternoon. Yay! Hope that I can finish cutting this weekend and perhaps start sewing. I still have this cold and it’s not debilitating but is a nuisance.
Hope everyone has a good night! Ginny

Ginny, I'm glad to see you had time for cut fabric and I hope you'll be able to do some sewing this weekend. And yes, that's a great idea for me to plan that project for fall. Thank you for the great advice. Why can't people get things right? We finally heard back from the doctor's office just this afternoon after a whole week and after I left another message. I specifically asked them to send the prescription to our local pharmacy but do you think they did that....NO...they sent it to the mail order pharmacy. How did they think he would be able to start taking a med right away when it's a mail order pharmacy. Pharmacy said it would arrive on April 7th. So I had to call the local pharmacy to have them contact the online pharm to transfer the prescription to them. Hopefully they all get it straight. He's supposed to start taking it now. Thanks for listening to my vents. And also thanks for all the census info

Aw Ruth, that is SO darned frustrating about Dh’s prescription. I have had something similar happen. I would think that the local pharmacy should have a good handle on getting that script transferred back to them. toasted/roasted marshmallows are wonderful!!! I love them done outside on an open fire, but inside on the stove is good. DGS#1 can eat a whole lot of them ….such a nice treat. Spam? Dh loved it. I tried some of the recipes with it and just eating it plain. And I am not a fan (nor do I enjoy Taylor’s ham). Perhaps I “inherited” a dislike for the stuff, as my Dad ate way too much of it during WWII- when that was an easy meat source for the troops in the Philippines where he was stationed.
Time to get to work- I want to rearrange the small bedroom a bit, which really needs straightening out.

Good morning. Ginny, my dh doesn't like Spam or so he says. I think he might like it fried. My father also hated spam for that same reason your's did and he also was stationed in the Phillipines...how strange is that? The last time I had smores was in 2009 at my son's house. He didn't have regular Hershey bars only the large ones which were much larger back then. The then 2 year old took one piece and made herself the part of the smore she ccould and waited for her toasted marshmallow. She was actually able to fit it into her mouth.I bet your dgs #1 really likes smores.I've never made any other recipes with Spam. When my ds and his oldest were here that dgs made himself some Spam for lunch while the rest of us were outside working on our new porch but he made it in the microwave and didn't like it at all. I bet he'll never try it again. I offered to fry some for him but he declined the offer I had only used my instant pot to make hard boiled eggs (twice) and beans before the other day even though I've had it probably 3 years so last week when I made the first pot roast in it was the first time I've used it for other things. It works very well although I was surprised that it doesn't tenderize better. I'd always heard that a pressure cooker does a great job tenderizing the tougher cuts of meat. It also doesn't cook the beans evenly. Some are still pretty firm aka hard while some are mushy. I have the actual Instant Pot brand. My son does a LOT of cooking in his and has actually made youtube videos showing his recipes.I have a basic model so it doesn't do baked goods nor does it make yogurt. I messed up in the crocheting I did yesterday so all my crochet time was a waste except for getting three more parts on Yoda.I have extensive kitchen cleaning I want to do today so better get busy.See you all later.

Hello - Hope you are all doing well today and having some nice weather It's a nice sunny day here with temps in the 50s. Sue - Hope you are well. Ruth - I'm sorry to hear about the problems with your DH's prescriptions. I remember when I was taking care of my father's multiple prescriptions how frustrating it was. And you are not strange with the marshmallows - I've toasted them over the electric burners on the stove too Hope you can get your kitchen cleaning done. Ginny - I'm glad to hear you got a lot of fabric cut yesterday and I hope you can get your bedroom cleared out today. We used to have Spam when I was a kid. I don't think I liked it that much, but I would eat it. I think my mother liked it and I can remember her frying it and eating it on bread with mustard. She also liked things like scrapple, the pork roll/Taylor ham, and different deli meats like olive roll - I would never eat any of those I remember years ago they came out with a turkey Spam and I tried it and liked it. Last night I spent some time sewing together the rest of those 2 patches that I'd been using as leaders/enders and finished all of them. I need to press them and then make them into 4 patches for this quilt project. This morning I finished sorting out the rest of my fabric and getting it more organized, so that feels good. What's bad is that I have about 30 fabric groupings (where I've put together 2-4 yards of matching fabrics) and I really need to make some quilts out of these. I can tell this is where I have a "problem" with fabric buying. I see a fabric I like and buy coordinating fabrics but then I never get to make the quilt I am putting myself on fabric buying moratorium I mentioned that earlier this week (Tuesday) I ordered fabrics, it was from 3 different places - Shabby Fabrics, Jordan Fabrics, and MSQC. I received my Shabby Fabrics order today, that is great service! The Jordan Fabrics order is already shipped, so I'll likely have it on Mon/Tues - also great. I haven't heard at all from MSQC and I expect it will take a lot longer to get that order. I find it interesting to see how the different companies work. I bought 2 small wallhanging Log Cabin kits from Shabby Fabrics, along with the Creative Grids log cabin ruler and I hope I can get to working on those soon. Here's a link to see them: www.shabbyfabrics.com/p121181/log-cabin-wall-hanging-repro-reds?ref=SearchAutocompletewww.shabbyfabrics.com/p111412/log-cabin-wall-hanging-kit-prairie-dreams?ref=SearchAutocompleteI did get to check out the 1950s Census results yesterday. I went through about 200 pages (they are very short pages) looking for my parents, but didn't find them. I noticed lots of lines were marked "Not at Home". I wonder if they ever went back to check on those people to count them. If they didn't, that was a very bad count for that area since at least 1/3 of the homes were not counted. I also found the home listed that I live in now, that was interesting. Take care and have a good day

CJ,my mother liked scrapple also. I don't remember eating it but if I did it must not have made much of an impression. I meant to ask when Ginny mentioned it but what is Taylor ham. I've never heard of that one. I do like olive loaf. My dh hates it. He also doesn't like bologna which I like and like it especially fried with onions. I know it has to feel fantastic having the fabrics organized! I had the same problem years ago with fabric. I would see some I liked and buy it but never use it so you're doing much better than me. I do that with yarn but do hope someday to use it all. Guess I'll have to live to be about 150 years old. I put myself on a yarn buying moratorium as you did with fabric but I may have to relent and buy some and you all know why. It sounds like we are having the same weather today.I love those log cabins and I like log cabins in general and they're fun to make. I even have plans to make some that are crochet. ( I have a very long list of planned projects ) I guess I'd better run and get dh's prescription. They, I think, got it all worked out. I've been working on the kitchen and dining room and really haven't got all that much done but it wore me out, hence the break. So off to the pharmacy. Have a great day!
