Good morning and Happy Monday!
All crafters are welcome here as we discuss crafting, life and our weight loss journey. Crafting includes actual hands on crafting, such as crochetting, knitting, sewing, quilting, needlepoint, painting, jewelry making, etc.....plus reading craft catalogs, craft blogs, watching craft you tubes or other crafting videos, chatting here about crafting, chatting with another person about crafting, reading craft emails, thinking about crafting, organizing crafting supplies, going into craft stores or the craft aisle in a store , attending craft fairs,or any other activity that inspires or directs your mind toward a crafting activity- even visiting us here to join in our posts!! There are plenty of days in which the closest we get to crafting is a visit here, so even if you have no time to craft, we would love to hear from you. We welcome newcomers to our friendly discussion! So glad you are here!! Please feel free to stop in and say hello!!

Got a gentle rain here, which we actually needed.
Another week! When I see May on the calendar, well I guess it really tells me that winter is gone and warmer weather will be with us for awhile. I did finish the day with some veggie gardening sort of. I started some seeds as its still too cold for them to be outside. So can we add gardening to crafting?? I am not a massive gardening fan…although I like it when the garden and landscaping looks nice.

good evening, on APRIL 9th our guild held a learning the stripology ruler class. these rulers are nice, but do require taking a class.
my morning started out with wanting to get there. Don took me, now I KNOW how to get to that church (another town, about 15 miles). Rebecka met us at he car curb with a cart, get inside and Don said got everything you need? yep.
turn around and look ,no fabric, so call Don 3 times,no answer, cell phone not on.
so Don brings out my fabric,(girls also were loaning me some) ,well class starts, hearing the speaker was not always easy, the room had a echo.about 30 in the class and only 2 people going around to help. they were very good in explaining things,so I cut and doing ok for awhile, then cut wrong and my attitude sort went way side. we still had to listen to the speaker and do other things she told us. so I NEVER GOT MY TABLE RUNNER EVEN STARTED.
WE had lunch and when it was time to leave and pack up,and go wait in the lounge for DON. WHILE WAITING I "oh forgot my ruler"GO back and sit in the lounge in and put he ruler on the desk. this ia big xl square ruler.
here comes Don, load up and head home,OH,I FORGOT MY RULER, BACK WE GO. PULL UP AND OUR PRESIDENT HAS IT IN HER CAR, SO WE GET IT.SHE WOULD HAVE BRUNG IT TO THE MEETING. can't practice cutting if you don't have the ruler.
I have practiced some.now if you are wondering what kind of rulers these are they have the slits in them. you have to angle your cutter in a certain way,the cut straight,or you will cut your ruler.
I would take the class again on a smaller scale and hope the lecture has a mike.
now I have some blocks to do for charity and some blocks to do for a group quilt. phyl

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having nice weather. It's in the low 70s and sunny here this afternoon. Ginny - I'm glad you got some of your seeds started and hope you can have a good garden this year. Phyl - That sounds like an interesting class you took. I'm sorry you had so much trouble hearing the instructor, but hope you've been able to practice at home with the ruler. Ruth - Hope you are getting some crocheting done. Sue - Hope you are well and able to do some crafting. The second clue for the Oh Say Can You Sew quilt along came out yesterday, so I've picked out my fabrics, pressed/starched them, and cut the pieces out. This clue is all Hourglass blocks, and a lot of them! So I have some more cutting and piecing to do, but at least I have all month for this. I also started working on a new quilt using a layer cake and the pattern - French Twist by Doug Leko. I've been wanting to make this since I watched the tutorial by Jordan Fabrics a while back. I have all my small strips cut and just need to cut up the layer cake and then I can start piecing. I think this quilt top will go together quickly. Here's a link to the video: www.youtube.com/watch?v=xTkreN_LVtUTake care everyone!

CJ- that pattern seems like a nice and quick quilt top to make, and using a layer cake will make it even more fun!! What layer cake are you using for this pretty quilt? And a layer cake is a nice way to sort of get scrappy- and leaving a comfort zone in a bit. I have used a Jordan fabric video before, and found her videos helpful and easy to follow. What fabrics did you select for the Oh Say Can you Sew quilt???
Phyl - that is quite a story on the stripology ruler class. the good news is you got home ok and that you will be able to pick up your ruler from your guild president! I sounds like a really nice ruler, very useful and a big time saver once you get the hang of it. And yes, its so very frustrating when a speaker does not have the right facility/equipment and a presentation does not go well. Hope you can get that table runner made.
Busy day…and it does slow down for me a bit as the week goes on.
Got more rain tonight….but not a lot. The temps are supposed to be warm, but I have had a bit of a chill. I am happy wearing a light sweater so its ok.
Have a good night! Ginny

Hello - Hope everyone is doing well today Ginny - Hope today was less busy for you. We're supposed to have cooler temperatures this weekend, so I guess you might get them too. It's also supposed to rain almost all weekend here. The layer cake I'm using for the new quilt is from the fabric line "Fields of Gold". This color combination was very popular last year (yellow, black and white) and I really liked it and wanted to try to make something in those colors. I'm going to have black fabric for the strips between the blocks in this pattern. www.fatquartershop.com/layer-cakes/fields-of-gold-10-karat-crystalsI had a service technician at the house today and then afterwards went out and ran some errands - car maintenance and shopping. The new weekly block patterns for Sweet Dreams and Moda Blockheads came out today. After seeing the one for Sweet Dreams, I know I want to make an older pattern for my lighthouse version, but I will make this week's pattern for the floral version. I went ahead and cut out my fabrics for these two blocks and hope to get them together tomorrow. Then I want to focus on getting those two quilt tops together hopefully by the weekend. I'm happy to see the finish of this quilt along, there were a few times when I was just tired of it. I'll have a break now until the new quilt along starts in June and it only runs to September. I hope all of you found some time to do some crafting. Take care

CJ-the fabric is so pretty-and yes that color scheme was popular last year. A similar color scheme was also popular this year, and I did see for the PMQ that I’m making that a color scheme like that was offered to the quilter. I hear you about becoming tired of a quilt top, and it’s nice just to be able to finish some quilt tops get them done and be able to move on to something else. I hope you can finish them for them by the weekend, and that you’re very happy with how they turned out. I hope that the service man who was at your house was able to take care of matters quickly and without too much of an expense. I know that can be so frustrating
I babysat today and brought the little ones back here. They were very very good but it was a long day. It was a pleasure to be here though, and it is more comfortable for me to babysit at home, I pretty much have everything that they might need. I did Try to get some sewing done, I’ve got a few strips on in place and then my grandson woke up early from his nap. So I had to go back in with him and comfort him and tell him I was here for him and he went back to sleep. Again the kids were really good.
Yes I think I have cooler temps this weekend which is welcome, and I don’t even care if it’s raining. I also hear that at the end of next week the temperatures go up into the upper 70s which will not exactly make me very happy. At least the nights will be cool.
Hope you have a good evening, and can get some crafting in! I think I’m going to look at fabric panels for two other quotes that I’m considering making. Have a good night.

I'M BAAAAAACCCCKKKKKK/ Internet issues have all been taken care of. It's really strange not having internet for over 3 weeks.I did get some crocheting done but not as much as I probably should have.
CJ, It sounds like you have a lot of quilt tops on your to do list. I haven't gone to look at the videos yet but I will.
Ginny, I think that most of your days are very busy ones. I'm glad you have such good grandchildren.
Sue, good to see you stopping in
Phyl, It's great seeing you also

Welcome Back Ruth!!!! We missed you! Hope you can catch up on your crochetting.
Sue, good to see you! Yes, that fabric CJ has is so pretty- cannot wait to see the quilt she makes with it.
Phyl- my daughter loves that Panera salad and usually orders it. Strawberries are in season now, so I bet it was even better. Sounds like you had a nice day. Do you have a retreat tomorrow or a class? What are you making?
I found a wonderful panel for me to use for a quilt of honor for my DBIL and am still looking for one for my friends future grandchild.
BBL- want to see if I can sneak in getting some more blocks done. Ginny

Thank you. It's great to be back. Not having internet and not being able to connect with friends was not a good experience but I survived.

Hello Everyone Ginny - I'm glad you were able to babysit at home yesterday and I hope that are able to get some blocks done today. Sue - I like that fabric too and I'm glad I can use some in a quilt top. Hope you are well. Phyl - Sounds like you had a nice outing and lunch out. I hope your class (or get together) goes well tomorrow. Ruth - Welcome back, I don't know how you have survived without the Internet. I would have been curled up in a ball on my bed, crying each day It was cloudy and cool here today, in the 60s and it looks like we have cooler weather and rain the next several days. Fortunately my lawn service came today to mow my lawn. I can only imagine how much it will grow after the rain. I was able to finish putting together the two Sweet Dreams quilt tops - what a (I don't even know what to call it)! I'm just so glad it's done. I had to rip seams out several times and the quilt top is so big (60x72), it's hard to move around the machine in the small area I have to sew in. I really think they both need borders on them, but I'm not sure I'm up to that - maybe later. I know I'm my worst critic, but I see so many things I would have liked to have done differently with fabric placement, and paying better attention to my piecing because there are some seams that don't match well. But I told myself that these quilt alongs are a way to use fabric that I have, and that's what I did with both of these quilt tops I am really happy to have a lighthouse themed quilt. In case you'd like to suggest fabric colors for the borders, here's what I'm thinking based on what fabric I have left: Floral - I could just do a border of the floral fabric, or a small inner border of an off white (if I can find one to match since I ran out of the one I used in the quilt) and then a larger floral fabric border. I do have some of the gray fabric light and could do a small border of that with a larger floral border. Lighthouse - I could do a border of just the light blue or the red fabric, or a small inner border of the light blue fabric and then a larger border of red. I do have enough of the gold to use but I think that might be overpowering. Thanks for listening to me go on and on about this quilt since January Take care everyone.

GOOD EVENING, hi RUTH, good to see you backs also. yep computer problems drive all of us nuts. I have never had my to the hospital for more then a few days.
Ginny,I am working on 3 projects the guild has going. 1. make a 10 1/2 inch block out of a fat quarter ,we got from a shop on our bus trip.
2. I finished the 40 blocks today for a charity quilt, just need to press and measure them.Sandy will square them up and put them into a quilt. 3. finish up the blocks for t he space quilt for the August banquet some one can win. this is the one I made a sample block to show Pam to see if I DID IT RIGHT.
ALL THESE HAVE TO BE DONE BY MAY 25T AND TURNED IN.
C.J on the red quilt how about using one of the colors in a tonal on tonal? the light house quilt maybe the darker blue for the boarder?
today's sew day went well,I was working on the 4 patch blocks ,those are done. just hope they measure 4 and 1/2 inches.
For lunch 3 of us walked across the street to kwik tripand bought our lunch and came back to the sew room. we all left about 2 or a little after.there were only 5 of us today. PAM was not there,so the girls who come and work on the wool projects were also not there. phyl

Good morning my dear friends. It looks as though you are all keeping busy.
CJ I love those quilts but the top one is my favorite of the two. As for border suggestions I'm not good at choosing colors. What Phyl said sounds good. I guess I'd have to put different colors beside the quilt top and try to see which one looked best to me
Phyl, it's great that your group is making something for charity. There are so many people in need nowdays. It also sounds like you're making something someone will win and I know that whoever the winner is they will be happy. I've never been to Panera, We don't have one near me.
Ginny, it's great that you were able to babysit at home. There you're able to get some little things done while the chidren are napping. ' I haven't progressed very far on the blanket I'm making for youngest granddaughter. Second youngest grandson has chosen two blankets he likes best and told me what colors he likes so his blanket will be next. If I had the yarn I'd start it too because it's going to be a fairly easy one I think...and I think are the operative words because everytime I think that it ends up that it wasn't as easy as I thought it would be.
