Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'm glad you were able to get the gardening done in the nice weather. Ruth - Hope you can find a chevron pattern that is not too bad to make and that you enjoyed your guests. It's cool and cloudy here today, and we're supposed to get some storms tomorrow. I sure hope the bad ones miss me because I know I'll get water coming in through the ceiling. The person that saw the truck in my driveway said it was a small white box truck, kind of like Amazon, but I wasn't expecting any deliveries. Maybe they made a wrong turn. I called the roofing company today and got their voicemail, so I left a message, I hope I might hear back from them tomorrow. I'm sure with the holiday weekend, it would be next week before they come here. If I haven't heard anything by Tuesday I'm going to try some other companies to see if I can get someone here more quickly. I'm sure it's probably a quick fix, it's just frustrating waiting to get someone here. I finished making my two weekly Moda Blockheads quilt blocks today. And I finished the Remembering Betsy small quilt top. It turned out a bit puffy, not sure if you can see that in the picture. I'm not sure it if was me or the pattern, but many of the seams did not match too well. Each side of this has the flying geese borders and there were supposed to be 11 flying geese in each strip. When I tried to sew it on that way, the strip was too long. I ended up ripping off one flying geese from each strip and then it fit better. The center portion with the 4 churn dashes worked out fine. I wouldn't make this pattern again, but I can't complain since the fabric and pattern were free (with the order I made). Now I'm all caught up with all my May projects except the hand quilting which I wanted to get done. I find that I can't hand quilt when I'm upset like I am right now, I need to be calmer to do it. That's strange though because hand quilting is such a calming experience for me I did think about pulling the rest of my scrap strips out and cutting them into the 4.5 inch pieces that I use for the monthly blocks I've been making. It would be nice to have all those done and ready to sew together each month - since that is my least favorite part of the process. Take care everyone

CJ, I sure wish they would get to your house and get that leak fixed! As you said, the ceiling could be damaged with it leaking like that. And in that Remembering Betsy block you posted here I had to look really close and I did see two very small puffed areas but probably no one but an expert like you woulld ever notice them unless you mentioned it as you did here. It's very beautiful and I love it. I really love flying geese.
I hope Ginny and Phyl are having a good day.
Well I finished my snowy mountain blanket. After putting the border on I had a few more ends to weave in but they're done now too. Now onto some doll clothes but now that I think about it I still have eyebrows and under the eye piece, and the ears to sew onto Yoda. He's all done except for that and I'm going to try to get that done today or tomorrow.

HI, Ginny, I think what made me not buy the kit , was my own self-condifence going down. when she talked about bubbles in the black strip ,and then I WOULD HAVE TO ORDER A SMALLER CLOVER IRON (SMALLER THEN THE ONE I got that would have been another $28.00 dollars.)
kinda dumb I THOUGHT THAT WAY.(AS THE SAYING GOES) ONE THING LEADS TO ANOTHER.
cj, I did notice the little bit of puffiness, possibility could be the batting. PHYL

Phyl, that seems to be the way that some of these projects go, you buy a kit or into a project and there are other purchases expected. Its so frustrating, you spend good money on a kit for a project then there is the hidden extra expense. I do not blame you for not wanting to shell out an additional $28. I am sorry to hear about your self confidence. My you have done a lot of quilting and I can imagine can take on pretty complicated projects. I hope that you can build your self confidence back up!!!
Ruth, so glad the snowy mountain blanket is all done!! Gee you always have another project lined up and ready- now you are moving on to doll clothes and Yoda. You sure keep busy crocheting!! Do you have another afghan planned for after the doll clothes and Yoda is put together?
CJ- the quilt top is pretty!! I do see its a bit puffy - and it looks like there is no batting yet. As you said, there were issues with the pattern because many seams did not match well. Still its a nice project and I hope you enjoyed making it. If I were you, I would all multiple roofing companies and see who gets back to you first. This must be so frustrating for you and seems to be stressing you. I do remember well how stressed I was when my water proofing was being done.
Worked this am, then got some minor gardening done. I attended the grandkids spring concert this evening, which kept me from any crafting. I am looking forward to a few days of quiet…
See ya tomorrow G

Ginny, I thought this was going to be a relaxing week for you but it sounds like you're still staying busy. Of course the grandchidren's concert was not work it had to be so cute. Grandchildren don't stay young for very long so it's great that you're able to see their programs.
Phyl, having those blocks not turn out right must have affected your confidence but I know you do good work so don't let those things get you down.Enjoy what you're doing. We all make mistakes in our crafts.None of us is perfect. I know I'm not even close to perfection.
Well my project for this evening was doing a sample of the kittens in a row blanket. I'll give it to a grandaughter when I finish with it but I wanted to see how hard it was and so far I think it will be pretty easy. I was following a bad video at first. The woman doing it is well known in crochet but her videos are not easy to follow and she leaves a lot out. I looked at a couple others and found that almost everyone does them a little different but the turn out all looking about the same.
Tomorrow will be Yoda. the next week or two will be doll clothers or a blanket for my second youngest grandson. I need to have that done by about June 20th and I hope to have a couple more doll outfits done by then too.

Good morning! Ruth, would you share the kittens in a row link- or who has the best instructions please? Just thinking about it, my friend has cats and I did consider making her a cat oriented project as a gift when I went to visit with her a few months ago. Not that I need another project to take on, but perhaps that would be a good project for me- a nice break from quilting, I am curious to see how long that project takes you. Its great that you found other videos for the project that explains the directions more clearly. I am curious what your color scheme will be. If I were to make it for my friend I would focus on the colors of her present pets. Bet it will be nice to get Yoda put together!! Think you made him awhile ago, and its impressive that you still have all his pieces. Hope he goes together quickly and easily for you.
The weekend starts today for me. Humidity is rising, so even though I have my windows open I am not sure how much longer that will last. I did attend the concert last night- the kids did an awesome job and it was good to hear them sing.
Got a home repair project on tap for this am and want to work in my garden a bit before it becomes too warm. And yes, I hope to get some quilting time in
Have a good day! Ginny

Ginny I think this is the best video for the kittens stitch www.youtube.com/watch?v=mOTS2KPbhXQ . Everyone does it in slightly different ways. there are written patterns for it too. I don't thing the person that made this video has a written one but a site called Posh Pooch has a written one and a video but her's is one that's slightly different but only in that she makes 3 double crochets at each end instead of two

this is the link for Posh Pooch. Her's is actually a pattern for a dishcloth but it's a multiple of 5 so it's easily resized. poshpoochdesignsdogclothes.blogspot.com/2020/09/kittens-in-row-washcloth-crochet.htmlAnd, as I mentioned, iit's very easy comprised only of dc shells and dc drop or long stitches in a cluster of two. Everyone makes the clusters differently too. I make mine simply and find it covers better by yarn over, insert your hook into the large space two rows back Yarn over,go into that large space two rows down, yarn over and go thru that space again, yarn over and go thru all the loops on your hook

Ruth, thanks for the links and the heads up on how this works best to make the afghan. It sounds like a fun project, and I might give it a try. As you know, I need a pretty easy project for crochet - just do not have the time or concentration to take on an intricate project.
Got a fair amount of yard work done, with oh so much yet to do. Just got a call asking if I can accompany music on Sunday….so I will be heading there shortly. My allergies are acting up- not horribly but I am tired and drained and have a runny nose.I did forget to take allergy meds this am, so I guess I am paying for that now.
Hope everyone had a good day. G

Hello Everyone Phyl - I've been involved in several of those workshops/demos where you end up buying thing you never use again - or sometimes even in the first place Hope you have something fun to work on. Ruth - I'm glad you found a good video with instructions for the kitty blanket, I thought it was a cute pattern. Ginny - Hope you enjoyed the concert and that you can get your home repair project done. Sue - Hope you are doing well. I'm pretty sure it was my piecing, along with the pattern problems that caused that quilt top to be puffy. I'm sure it will smooth out when it's quilted. We had some strong storms go through here at midday and we might get more later, but I sure hope not. I did have water coming in again but have been able to catch it in buckets. I called the roof company yesterday and left a message, but no return call. I know with the holiday weekend there's no point in trying to call other places. I'll try to get a few numbers together to call on Tuesday. I spent quite a bit of time today remaking some of my Moda Blockheads blocks. I've been really bothered by the brown fabric I used in some of the blocks, it just seems to clash/stand out to me. So I remade the small blocks that had brown in them and I was able to rip partial seams to remove the fabric in the three large blocks I had brown fabric in. There was also a new bonus block today. So I'm pretty tired of making Moda Blockhead blocks today. I'm glad there isn't a new block until Wednesday Last week was the halfway point of this quilt along. I'm adding a picture of all my blocks so far. I hope I can figure out a setting soon, since I'd like to start putting them together. I don't want to have all this to do at the end. They've shared several layouts, but I'm not really loving any of them. I do kind of like this one, so I might think about it. But I have to figure out the layout. I can see the one big block which is framed by 3 small blocks and two squares of fabric. What I don't understand is - we are making 36 blocks. So if you have 36 large blocks for this layout, then you'd need 72 small blocks (2 for each large square). But we are only making 36 small blocks. I guess I could just make an easy 4 patch to fill in, or something like that. I need to think about it. www.fatquartershop.com/kimberlys-moda-blockheads-4-quilt-setting-free-pdf Take care everyone and have a good weekend!

Good mornng, Phyl, nice to hear that you were able to bring law and order back to your upstairs. Not sure if any of us are neat freaks - I guess a neat freak would not be able to allow areas to get messy. I am not a neat freak, although I like a clean and well organized home. But its not always easy to keep especially if a person is into crafting. Do you have any idea what you will be looking for at the Prarie du Chen quilt shop? Is that your favorite quit shop? Safe travels…
CJ- I actually read your post last night on my phone and chose not to respond until I was back on the Ipad with a larger screen. First off, I think the block heads quilt pattern is really cute. I am not a big fan of quilts with different size blocks throughout the body of the quilt- but I like this because there is a pattern to the use of the larger blocks and it makes sense to me. I wonder if as the instructions for each block is revealed perhaps it will all make sense. The blockhead quilt you are working on is so pretty! How many more large blocks are you supposed to make for this quilt? Knowing that your personal taste is to avoid a scrappy look or anything that looks disharmonious, i wonder if it would work for you to take the blocks that are darker and have more of the deeper colors/less white, and put them in the center. It depends upon how many large blocks you have left to make. If that does not work, this is a perfect case of where use of a black and white photo of the layout would be helpful. We will help too…post pictures!!! Its a pretty quilt CJ- and you are very tough on yourself. I think that no matter which layout you decide to use you will look back on this quilt and think its pretty (cause it is!!!). Be as aggressive as you must to get some resolution with this roofing issue. And I really hope that someone gets back to you soon who is willing to work on the problem.
I ended up at church last night, will be helping out with music for Sundays service.
We had heavy rain last night, but we needed it. It will help my feeble gardening efforts for sure, helping those plants I moved or put in the ground.
See ya later. Ginny

Good morning everyone. I hope you have a great day and great weekend.
Ginny, after doing this doll size blanket I found that the way the pattern is written it leaves very big gaps that you would have to crochet the boarder into which leaves it a little messy looking so I'm going to revise this person's pattern but starting and ending with probably at least 3 rows of either sc or hdc to eliminate the big spaces at the top and bottom. So while I'm doing that I'm going to also revise it so that the sides also more border friendly and maybe even make that the actual border crocheted right into the blanket .I have mine done...the doll blanket size...and it looks ok but could stand a little revision. And this one. as written, would not be a good one for a baby because the baby would not only get fingers into the holes but the whole arm.It used ww yarn an I hook.I think it would look better with thinner yarn and smaller hook. The cats in this one are very large

good morning and happy memorial day weekend, we are staying home this weekend.PDC is my favorite quilt shop, wish it was here,Lou knows how to sell quilting.SHE has great ladies working for her.
there is 150 year celebration this weekend ,lots of people so we will go during the week. Also go to PDC saves a lot of running ,instead of two trips RED ROXY IN Decorah IA then up to PDC.
I have not done a thing this am.yes I like a clean house but won't be a slave to house cleaning.my sister once told me I DID NOT CLEAN LIKE SHE DOES(DON WAS NOT HAPPY) I told her she was a slave to her house and I would not be to mine. as she got older and using a walker things changed for her. one thing they did was have the newspaper all over the table. now if you can picture the AZ REPUBLIC ,That IS A LOT OF PAPER.PHYL

Same here Phyl, my house is clean but cluttered. I have a lot more things I like to do than housework. I won't be a slave to my house either. I'm sure your's is very clean also and you have the right attitude. There was a woman who worked with me who cleaned all the time and had strict schedules for everything. She had three children and must not have spent much time with them at all because of working and then cleaning all the time at home.Life is too short to spend working on either house or job and having to neglect family and good friends.
Since I got the doll blanket done I started working on a doll size sweater. Sweaters are much easier than you would thing.
