Good morning and Happy Independence day! Here in my area it is a beautiful morning- low 50’s. I could take a whole summer like this for sure. I have no specific plans for today, but want to master the cornerstone block I will be using and get busy on that. And I just decided to wash 3 windows (which are in need of it). With a cooler morning like this I do not mind opening them (they are open anyway) and doing a little bit of maintenance.
Hope everyone has a great day. Ginny

Hello Everyone - Happy 4th of July Hope you are all enjoying the holiday. Ginny - That weather sounds great, I agree with you on having it all summer. Hope you get everything done you want to do. I'm happy to hear your flying geese units came out great. My quilt is a bit scrappy, but that's the great thing about jelly rolls, I don't have to match the fabrics, it's all done for me Ruth - I'm glad to hear the chevron blanket is coming along, hope it goes quickly for you so you can get to something you enjoy more. Your pasta salad sounds good. Phyl and Sue - Hope you are well It's warm here, in the high 80s, but with all my windows covered, it's not too bad. I'm just using the fan since I didn't feel like setting up the AC unit today. I was thinking that I might have it set on the dehumidifier setting instead of just the AC and that's why I was getting so much water. I'll check it again the next time I use it. I worked today on the cornerstones and sashings for the Pat Sloan's Summer Camp quilt along. I've figured out my fabrics and made a few cornerstones for each colorway and I like them. So I hope to finish making the cornerstones (8 for each colorway) next. Then I can work on the sashings. The thing I found the most tiring this morning was starching and pressing the fabric - it's a pain I really need to get all of this done soon since this quilt along finishes in about a month, and I want to have it ready to put together at that point. Then I decided that I wasn't happy that I had messed up one of the small 5 inch Moda Blockheads block and I recut all the fabric for that and I hope to get it pieced soon. I may end up deciding to use all 36 blocks, since it seems like they will have a patchwork version for all of them, even though some are applique. And the newest clue for the Oh Say Can You Sew quilt along came out today (these are monthly) and it's 9 patch blocks again, so those are easy. They advised us that next month we will be making 1 inch half square triangles They sell triangle paper to make these, so I ordered some, because I sure don't want to trim 1 inch half square triangles Hope you are all getting to do some crafting too. Take care

good evening and happy 4th of July,
glad we are not at the riverside park, had about 3 good rains this am,finally cleared up this afternoon, between the river and the rain the skeeters will be out. also humid out, so the may flies may hatch.
all weekend has been a quiet 4TH for us,the neighbor shot off some fireworks Friday, Saturday NIGHT,NOT SURE ABOUT TONIGHT.
Today we were going to fazoli's for lunch and the doors were locked, probably not enough help.so we ended up at OLIVE GARDEN.
then it was hobby lobby ,I DID BUY SOME FALL FABRIC. came home and Don helped me find the right setting for a quarter inch seam on my eversewn.I WAS MOVING THE NEEDLE OK ,Till I measured just the seam and it would be a 1.4 inch. Don took the ruler and measured from the foot to the hole or something,no I have the setting in my head to set the seam guide. now to do it on my brother machine.
CJ ,I LIKE THE COWBOY QUILT. wonder how many people will be over tried after this weekend ,when they wake up tomorrow and have to go to work. phyl
let's all pray for CHICAGO, SO VERY SAD IT HAD TO HAPPEN TO DAY.

Good evening-
Got some knuckleheads shooting off fireworks (something I always thought was best left to the professionals). Its got the deer running….and one of my 2 cats (both inside cats ) are bothered by it. The male does not seem to care, the female is bothered by it).
Phyl- sorry that Fazoli’e was closed but Olive Garden is always enjoyable. Hard to believe that Hobby Lobby has fall fabrics out already, but it is time for that to happen. Bet they will have Christmas decor out soon too. Good for you getting the 1/4 inch seam markings on your machines, it does help and will make sewing a lot easier. Don is a sweetheart for helping you., do you think you will keep him after all these years? Ha ha ha
CJ- i inch hst’s would drive anyone nuts and I am glad you ordered the triangle paper to assist with those. Yes, having the AC set to dehumidifier mode would sure cause a lot of moisture to be extracted. Hope that you do not have to put the AC on- it seems that you have done a nice job staying cool without it so far. Mine is off and has been all day….and my temps are going into the low 60’s tonight. Comfortable enough. 9 patch blocks are easy and look so cute! Good to have an easy month ahead for that QAL. If you had to rework only one Moda block head block then you are doing great. To make as many blocks as you do and only mess up once is impressive. And yes, starching and pressing fabric is a pain for sure and seems to take so much time.
I got my study material for next Tuesday all typed up- and I do need to proof read it and possibly edit it, but the worst is over with. Got to work on my sample corner stone block (in scrap fabric). I am going to go with HST’s instead of flying geese. Overall I am pleased with the result and think it will be fine when I go to make the cornerstones in the actual fabrics.
What a shame about what happened outside of Chicago. It’s heartbreaking.
Hope Ruth is doing well…. And Sue we miss hearing from you. Ginny

I'm sure there will be people here shooting off fireworks too and that's illegal here too.I'm glad you were able to decide what blocks to use.I think HST do make great corner blocks.I like flying geese and want to find out about making 4at a time.....in case I ever get to sewing .Yes fireworks are usually not liked by cats and dogs or other animals Phyl,I'm glad you were able to find a substitute for the restaurant that was closed.I've only been toOlive Garden once and that was in 2003. We were visiting ds and his family when he was stationed at Shephard AFB and it was Father's Day and they suggestion Olive Garden but guess who ended up paying.I'm glad you were able to get some nice fabrIc and also that you were able to set your machine to get a 1/4 inch seam with Don's help. He's a keeper for sure. I guess I'll keep mine too since he bought me yarn yesterday and last week. Ginny,I haven't been to HL for quite awhile.I missed the yarn clearance. They usually do start putting out Christmas things in early summer from what I've seen when I was there. CJ, I'm glad you figured out the problem with your a/c. ! inch blocks!!!! No way would I ever want to make those! Well I had about 13 rows of the chevron done but I ripped the whole thing out and started over. Then I had to rip out the first couple rows about 4 times but I think I may have it figured out now.I hope so. I was ready to give up but I really did want to learn how it's supposed to be done and,of course,I didn't want to disappoint dgd. I did a bunch of things around the house today along with crocheting.I'll probably do a little outside work tomorrow then., of course back to crocheting.I want to make kits like CJ did. That's such a great idea. I can put the yarn for each project in it's own tote bag along with a note saying what pattern it's to use and hook size. Today I finally found out what pattern I was using for a project I started before we went out of town. I didn't put a note with it because I thought I'd remember....as if!!

Good morning,
Ruth that is so disappointing that you had to take out all 13 rows of the chevron afghan. Its a good thing that you figured out the problem before you crocheted much more, but for a slow moving pattern that must have been so frustrating for you. I totally agree with you- that coming up with crochet kits (thanks for the idea CJ) is a great concept. Makes it easy to have a go to project, especially when you want a project to grab and go for waiting rooms or trips when you need to have something easy to put together. Yes you are right, HL will be putting out Christmas items soon. Which reminds me I have to figure out what I am making for my quilting Christmas gifts this year. Were you “treated” to fireworks last night?
Phyl, yes I remember the 40% off coupons well, think they were discontinued just this year….it was so nice to be able to go into the store and created your own sale every week on one item. Still its a nice store and my HL is better organized than both Joanns and Michaels.
I went for a walk with my friend (before I posted last night)- but was good and tired when I went to bed. I finished the book I was reading and next will move onto Anne of Green Gables (DGD read it and wants me to read it so we can discuss). Unfortunately, my house was surrounded by fireworks….several houses away so I was unable to view most of them, but they kept going until midnight. Sorry folks….I think that is rude. Thus resulting I am tired today and need more sleep.
Think this am I will weed a bit more (not my favorite job but its gotta get done). That has to happen before the rain they are predicting for this evening. think I will trim down the quilt panel and then get the two borders on today also. That will help me get set to make the corner stone blocks… I might still play around with the flying geese for the block but am happy with the HST cornerstone block. Ginny

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having nice weather. We're getting a rain shower right now, but then I think it's supposed to clear up. Phyl - I'm glad you were able to get a meal out at Olive Garden and that you found some Fall fabric at Hobby Lobby. I've never been to that store, since there aren't any close to me. Ruth - I'm sorry you had to pull out all those rows, and then the second try too! I hope you have it figured out now so you can get it done. Ginny - How nice to get to read books and discuss them with your DGD, I would have loved to do something like that if I'd had grandchildren - hope you enjoy it. Hope you are able to work on the quilt panel today. I'm glad you were happy with the cornerstones. We've had fireworks going off here for weeks, I hope they run out of them soon. There were a few pretty displays last night in the neighborhood that I was able to see from my house. I checked the AC unit and I did have it set on AC only, so I guess it's just drawing in a lot of water. I've rigged it with a bunch of paper towels near the drain plug, but I guess I'll probably have to deal with this all summer. This morning I finished making the cornerstones for both versions of the Summer Camp quilt - there are 8 needed for each quilt. I've started on the sashing units (need 18 of those) and have 3 made so far. I did get the fabric pulled that I have to starch and press, so I hope to get that done soon. These strip sets go together pretty quickly so I'll be glad to have those done. I'm really happy with my color selections for the cornerstones and sashing and I think they'll go well on the quilts. I'm posting a few pictures. I don't think I posted pictures of my four floral version Summer Camp and last week's Moda Blockheads blocks, so here are some pictures of those. Hope you all get to some crafting today. Take care

Good evening, CJ- I am glad you figured out the setting on your aircondioner. Guess its a good thing that it is drawing that much humidity out of the air and hopefully you can rig some way to capture the water from the drain plug (if I am figuring out what is going on). Guess as long as its not too messy and does a good job of keeping you comfortable, then what is all that matters. Yes, the fireworks assault is getting old and tired. Tomorrow should be a work day for those who work, and perhaps we can get lucky and not have to endure the fireworks again. Oh I enjoy fireworks- just not at midnight. Your summer camp blocks are so pretty and colorful- but I guess that is the intent of a quilt called summer camp! That you made these quilts from your stash is something- you have quite a stash.
I tried, really I did. BUt finally broke down and put the airconditioning on. Its not supposed to cool down much tonight and is humid. And I do not want to deal with firework noises if I can help it. This am I gardened a bit and pulled a bunch of weeds. Its an easier job this year than it was last year, when I was really playing catch up from years of neglect. I still have another 2-3 hours of weeding ahead but it looks much better already. I am heading out tomorrow to pick up more mulch which helps keep it looking better. I tried taking a nap- which resulted in only a few minutes of rest. Think I will trim the quilt panel and cut my border strips and call it quits for the night. Ginny

CJ, yes those blocks are very pretty. What do you use for starching, spray starch, some kind of liquid startch or is Best Press a starch?
Ginny, that's the problem with gardens. You can't just dig up the plot and plant things, you have to pull weeds and in our area water at LEAST once a day. I'm glad that both you and CJ have had success in keeping cool. We haven't had to put on our a/c yet here because in the lower level of the house it's very comfortable with just a fan.
I'm still having problems with this afghan but will eventually get everything straightened out.

Ruth, I sure hope that you can get this pattern straightened out. It sounds like such a pretty pattern and I know you have other projects in queue and other things you want to make.. How are the plants that you recently put in doing?
Just could not get comfortable last night, from all the gardening I was achy and I sleep better in cooler temperatures. Hope to start assembly of the panel this morning. G

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having good weather. It's very hot here, sunny and humid with a possibility of storms today through Friday. I had to go out this morning to run some errands, so I haven't done any quilting today. Going out pretty much takes up all my energy The 3 new block patterns came out today, so I'm hoping I can work on them tomorrow through the weekend. I'll feel better once I'm caught up with all the quilt alongs for this month. Hope you get to do some crafting today. Take care

CJ- especially in summer when just staying comfortable is a struggle (we can always add more layers of clothes but cannot wear any less than minimum clothing). Errands can really take it out of you, depending upon how close you can park to where you want to go etc..Yes I have hot weather here too, and somewhat humid. A light breeze is what saves the day here. Have you been getting any rain? I figure that even though you did not quilt today you did check out the 3 new block patterns that came out today. Tomorrow is another day, and you will get busy working on the new blocks then.
I did work this am, and then went to the supermarket because it is reasonably near where I work and today is senior day. I was very pleased to see that they had bags of mulch on clearance, and with the senior discount and the fact that I did not have to drive 10 miles to Lowes, well I picked up what I thought would finish topping off my mulch. I brought the mulch home and decided to at least start spreading it, and got half the bags spread. I still have some weeding to finish (think the worst of it is done already) But that kept me from doing much quilting. I did get my border pieces cut and the panel trimmed and will start assembly tomorrow. I am anxious to see how the corner stone blocks will work out because I am sort of changing design. the border needs to go on to see what kind of room it will leave for the cornerstones. I expect that the 6 inch square star block should fit just fine. I did also start looking for something to make for Christmas gifts. Gotta start somewhere and some time.
Have a good night and see you tomorrow Ginny

Hello all. We went out to do errands and grocery shopping also. It's hot here too.
I just want to remind everyone to stay hydrated. I didnt and two days in a row I got VERY lightheaded going from the bedroom to bathroom after awakening in the morning and almost fell. My balance was very much off. The next day same thing happened but this time I did fall, picked myself up and staggared into ghe bedroom and fell again. Luckily I wasn't injured. I did hit the side of my face on the floor but didn't even get a bruise. So I learned my lesson and drank water before going to bed and woke this morning with just a little dizzyness but not like the previous two days
CJ, well there are just days when we can't get to our crafting. I know you'll get those blocks done
Ginny, so the cornerstones go on after the border? I thought maybe you sew the on the the border and put that whole strip on at one time. You can see I don't know much about quilting.
All this typos!! That's what happens when I try to use a small keyboard
