CJ,I'm happy that you's settled on a way to construct the quilt that has relieved your misgivings on making it the way you previously thought you had to make it. Now you can relax and make the things you enjoy more. That's important.Having to feel as though you're compelled to do something and in a way that you don't really care for is turning crafting into a job instead of something to be enjoyed
Officially it got to 98 here today. My thermometer says it was over 104. Still, even with just a fan, it was not really uncomfortable.
Ginny, I hope you got to do your garden work while it was still fairly cool and that the rest of the day was restful and you were able to work on your sewing
Phyl, do you make completed quilts or do you mostly make squares for the charities like you mentioned a little while ago? I guess what I'm asking is if you make completed quilts do you do the quilting yourself or take it to someone to do on a longarm?
I did work on my afgan a little this morning but I had some work to do so will get back to crochet right after I send this

Ruth, I make quilts for charities and baby quilts for people I KNOW, I do have maybe
3 twin size quilts to get done. I will probably do the quilting myself, stitch in the ditch or a stitch from my machine.
I SHOULD get NATHAN'S quilt done first, think I STARTED IT WHEN HE WAS ABOUT 8-9 HE WILL BE 16 IN DECEMBER. THEN THEIR IS THE NEIGHBOR GIRL'S QUILT I STARTED IT WHEN SHE GRADUATED FOR HIGH SCHOOL,NOW SHE WILL GRADUATE FROM 8 YEARS OF COLLAGE, VERY SMART GIRL. THEN THERE IS Kyle's quilt,I KNOW HE WaS 8 WHEN i started that one,he is now 30. I MIGHT TAKE kyle's QUILT TO A LONG ARMER.
CJ thanks for the information on the numbEr 5 block. PHYL

Phyl, good to hear from you! I do not see why making a constellations quilt smaller should be too tough, you would just have to figure out how the pattern repeats and cut it off there. But perhaps easier said than done. The video shows only a 2 color quilt, purple and white. What are your plans on incorporating 2 additional colors? looks like a fun quilt to make. Not knowing how far the bus trip is leaves me wondering. As Don is so patient and seems willing to do so much for you, I wonder if its a super long trip if its a good idea to go or not. I wonder how comfortable you would be on the bus and if you did need any special accommodations how that would be handled. Is this the trip that you said Don was willing to drive you himself for? (You mentioned that a few weeks ago). Now I would need a few extra pages of a paper piecing book for I would, for sure, goof up.
Church this am….and I was there a long time for a bunch or reasons. Now got a quiet afternoon ahead. Should be playing with fabric shortly.
Have a good day all Ginny

Well for some reason (and this is not the first time its happened) the other posts appeared after I left a post. So now I will address CJ and Ruth.
CJ- glad you came up with a game plan for the moda blocks, which I think is very workable and should make a pretty quilt. Unless we are making a charity item or a gift to someone elses specific taste, t his is supposed to be fun, right?
Ruth - God bless you….I would be a miserable person with anything over 75 degrees, and in the 90’s or over 100 sounds awful to me. Hope you are drinking your water!!!
Phyl- stitch in the ditch is pretty easy and looks nice….and sure saves the cost of long arming.

Phyl, thank you for the info on your quilt making. It sounds like you and I have the same issue in starting and finishing things. I have part of a baby blanket that I started for a cousin when she was expecting her first child. That "child" is now 49 years old. It came in a kit and I still have the pattern that came in the quilt too. Are the people you have the three unfinished quilts for married. If not maybe you could finish them and gift as a wedding present. Ginny says that stitch in a ditch is pretty easy. I want to try it someday. You and Ginny and CJ make me want to make some quilts.
I also have blankets that have finished but just haven't given them to anyone yet and I have one in the pattern that Ginny sent me a few years ago and also an unfinished one of a stitch called the cabbage patch stitch. I really like both of those so will have to get busy and finish them...after I get finished with this chevron blanket and the stuffies my youngest grandchild wants
Ginny, It did feel plenty hot for since there is such low humidity it was for sure no as uncomfortable as it was where I spent those couple months a short time ago. I'm glad you're going to have a relaxing day. For a person on vacation you definitely keep busy
CJ, I hope your quilting is going ok and that you're getting the things done you planned for the weekend and that you're able to stay cool in this heat.

Hello Everyone - Hope you are doing well and having nice weather - that isn't too hot. It's warmer here today, but sunny. I hope all of you who are making things for others will be able to finish and gift them This is partly why I don't make things for others - it just feels like a lot of pressure to me and I'd probably never finish them. But I'm sure it feels great to give something you've made away to someone who will hopefully appreciate it I finished making the Laundry Basket blocks this morning - those things are a mess! My seam allowance was way off on these, I'm just glad they're done and don't look too bad. I'm attaching a picture of all the blocks done so far (60 of them). There are only 21 blocks left. The other picture with these fabrics was most of what was cut off to make these delectable mountain blocks (the bottom blocks on the picture). I felt like that was just too much waste, so I made these small blocks that I'll add to my orphan blocks. I also pulled out and cut some fabric for the 31 nine patch blocks I need to make for the Oh Say Can You Sew quilt along this month. I know those will go together quickly. Then I hope I can work on putting the Moda quilt together. I don't think I showed a picture of this week's Moda Blockhead block, so I'm posting that picture too. Take care everyone and enjoy your day

hi, RUTH, I do like making quilts for other people,I go in spurts, do my own thing or do a guild project. heave knows I do not have enough room to store the big quilts I have made over the years or wall hangings or table runner,I have not made to many table runners.
lat night we went to mass and got to meet the new pries. think we will like him.also got to say good bye to the sub priest, they had a ice cream social after mass.
then we joined Rudy and Delona at slooply's for supper. I tried to eat light.yes we had dessert first at church.
CJ you are right, making a quilt or something for someone else does take time away from your own projects. phyl

Ruth, its always great when you can finish up a project and I hope you can knock off a few UFO’s. Temps in the 90’s are hot even with low humidity, but yes with higher humidity its an even bigger issue. And you should try your hand at quilting if you need a break from crochet. If you take on a small project it will go quickly with good results.
CJ- laundry baskets look pretty good to me- but I am not scrutinizing them…you do nice work. For your sake, I am glad that the laundry baskets blocks are done. You dont to quilt to be frustrated, that is for sure! Nice that you have the Oh say can you see quilt- easy to put together and rewarding.
Phyl sounds like you had a nice day-and I hope that your new priest works out well and that he is well liked. Its challenging to listen to a priest/pastor if they are not pleasant individuals.
Well, what a silly saga. Got the side border attached and what I thought was the cutting done for the corner blocks. I forgot that I had to cut the HST squares a half inch larger, so they need to be recut. I will take that on tomorrow….when I am not so annoyed with myself. And really I had to laugh at my own stupidity. I will fix the problem tomorrow.
See you in the am. Ginny

Phyl,I'm sure the people that you give the quilts to love them and I hope they appreciate all the work and love that go into making something like that. I hope the new priest works out for your parish and does great things for God. to do CJ, I don't feel rushed when I make things because they're all for family all of whom would understand if I was late sending. Good thing too since I usually am late. and actually I'm an inpatient person and want everything done now. I never sell things because that definitely would make my crafting feel like work instead of pleasure.
Ginny, we all do those things that make us feel like we made a dumb mistake. Well at least I do.Then I talk to myself and tell myself how dumb it was. But we all bounce back and figure it out and remake what we made our mistake on. Makes us learn as I did with this chevron.
I have 16 inches done on this chevron and I want to make it 60 inches in height so I have a lot to go. it's quite wide so I do have a lot done as far as that goes but well it won't be done anytime soon. It is going faster now that It suddenly became easy once I learned the importance of counting. Of course I've known that all along and advise other to count but I just didn't do it and it caused me a lot of frustration until that point that I mentioned of feeling I'd have to give up
