Ruth, each time you post I learn something…..never heard of a linked double crochet and also that the zebra color way of RHSS existed. Yes, its a sobering thought for you that you feel that there is a chance that the gifts you make for your family are unused…but I guess that is the risk we take when we make a gift for someone
Got the dolls legs and arms made last night. Putting the body together should be easy, then on to her hair and clothes
Hope everyone has a good day- see ya later

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today and having nice weather. It's been cloudy here today, and humid. We're supposed to get rain this evening. Sounds like some of us have been doing some crafting, so that's great The house block I posted yesterday is the first block of Pat Sloan's Hometown Charms quilt along. It's a large 18 inch block and will be surrounding by other smaller blocks. I cut up the jelly roll today that I'm going to use for the Boxed Squares pattern, so that's ready to piece. And I pulled out another jelly roll (this one is all bright floral fabrics) that I'm going to use to make a kind of Rail Fence quilt. I'm just making it based on a picture someone posted of a quilt they made. Take care eveyrone!

Good morning! good to see you here CJ. Yes, I am a lover of house blocks….I would ask for the directions for the block, but 18 inches is a large block, I would love someday to make a house block quilt…but I would think smaller 12 or 10 inch blocks. Hope you are enjoying the Hometown charms quilt, it looke like a very sweet quilt. Using that jelly roll for the boxed squares quilt will be great and make a stunning quilt.
Hope Ruth is ok- strange that she did not check in.
Hi to Sue and Phyl

Hello Everyone - Hope you are all doing well today Ginny - I'd love to make a house block quilt too. This block was really big because she wanted to make it the center of the quilt. There are some great free patterns on the Internet, so I hope you can find one you like. I like all the different house blocks, and have saved several patterns. I thought about doing one making those tiny houses - maybe making a block a day or a couple of blocks a week for several months or even a year. And here's a house quilt kit that I keep looking at from Shabby Fabrics, I love the quilt and fabrics and might end up buying it: www.shabbyfabrics.com/p116319/be-my-neighbor-quilt-kit?c=34&filters=5826-1445Ruth, Phyl and Sue - Hope you are doing alright and getting to do some crafting. It's a pretty sunny day here today after the rain yesterday evening. I finished sewing together the jelly roll strips this morning. I made 20 sets of 2 strips. Now I need to cut them up into 4.5 inch pieces and press them open. These are the fabrics I'm using: www.quiltinaday.com/shoponline/fabricstock_display.asp?i=199499They are so pretty in person, the pictures don't do justice. I might try to buy some of more of this fabric if I can find it. It came out a few years ago, but there is probably some on Etsy. The first pattern for the Christmas quilt along is out too, and it's a mug. I hope to get that made soon too, it looks pretty easy but there are several small pieces: www.fatquartershop.com/christmastime-mystery-quilt-along-week-one-cup-of-cheer-quilt-free-pdf-patternTake care everyone

Sorry everyone. I'm fine. I just came in here yesterday then was interrupted and never got back.
CJ, you definitley need to buy that kit! The quilt is wonderful. I also love the fabric you gave us the link for. I think that's my favorite grouping of fabrics that I've seen. They're beautiful and will work together very, very well.
I worked on my knot bag most of the day yesterday and have it all done except the handles which I will finish today and then decide on my next bag. I did start a hat brim so that I could work on it while waiting in the doctor's office. Dh and I had an app't for this afternoon so we got all ready to go and then I listened to our messages and found that they changed the app'ts to tomorrow.
I hope you both have a lovely day. It's very smoky here. I don't know where it's coming from but not near here. Smoke seems to travel long distances.

One blue green ombré scarf finished. I have to take care of a few ends. There should be only two, but the ball of yarn had two knots in it. I would make a fuss, but it's really not worth it. Goes with inexpensive turf. Might be a good idea to weed some of that category of yarn out of my stash. It would probably be more fun to work with some of my better yarn!
The sky is too smoky here. There is rain in the forecast for several days and even an early season doesn't stick snow for next Tuesday. That should help with the smoke! Our highs are dropping to the 60s! What a relief after a hot summer.

The smoke is from Northern California, Idaho and Montana. I have to use the windshield wipers before I drive. Very tiny white ash.

Good evening, CJ- that quilt kit from Shabby Fabrics is adorable! Love the quilt and the fabrics- Henry Glass fabrics typically have a charming almost reproduction fabric look. What a pretty quilt. Yes, you should buy the kit! And its even on sale….yes those jelly roll strips are so pretty and that will make a nice colorful and cheery quilt. Looking forward to seeing what you do with it.
Ruth, glad you are doing ok! Nice job getting most of the work done on that knot bag, and hope you were able to get a lot done on the hat brim. Wow, glad you caught the change in the doctor appointments. Hope that both you and Dh are doing fine, with no new medical conditions. As I do not have to tell you, its important to go for those check ups. (I go for mine in 2 weeks). Sorry its smoky near you. I guess with much open terrain, smoke will tend to travel quickly- also with low humidity. Hope that your temperatures are comfortable.
Thought I was supposed to babysit and then Dh let me know that DGS had a cold and needed a day home. She took the day off. I was just ready to leave for her house when I saw the text….anyway, he is feeling better after a day at home and I am babysitting tomorrow. Got some work done on my amish doll.I am working on the dress (the doll is done) and her apron and bonnet. I am sort of winging it without a pattern, so we shall see how it turns out. I am pleased enough with the doll, who I just want for decorative purposes and I think will look cute in my somewhat rustic/country family room.
So i got an amazon shipment for walnut shells- guess I must have ordered them (yes I was looking at them), and I will need them to stuff a pin cushion I want to make as a gift. I just forgot ordering them, but do remember having them in my cart.
CJ- gonna have to check out free pattern for house quilts. Just what I needed. Another project! Ha ha ha
Have a great night Ginny

Sue, glad you were able to finish that scarf! My sister likes working with the higher end yarn…..for me, I am better off with less expensive stuff. Thanks for explaining where the smoke is coming from that you and Ruth are experiencing. Hopefully some rain will help wash out the air and clear the smoke. But yes, a relief from a very hot summer.

Hello again Ruth - I'm glad you've almost finished your knot bag. Hope the appointments go well for you and your DH tomorrow. Sue - I'm happy for you that you finished your scarf, I bet it is pretty since most of those ombre color combinations are. I hope the smoke gets better for both of you. Ginny - I hope you will share a picture of your Amish Doll when you finish it, I'd love to see it. Hope the babysitting goes well tomorrow. I was able to get all my pieces cut from the jelly roll strips I pieced earlier and they've been pressed open, now it will just be laying them out which will probably take some doing to arrange them in a nice pattern. There are 120 blocks in this quilt! I also cut out the fabrics for the mug block and made it. It came together very quickly so I would recommend this pattern to you:

CJ- the mug block is adorable! Yes I can see from the piecing that its not too many pieces and not a boatload of cutting to get done. Its a super cute pattern and I will put that one in my memory, in case I need a quick and cute gift idea. Are you planning on keeping that for yourself? 120 blocks is a lot….but I am sure you will do a great job. Its a really pretty fabric line and honestly, I do not think you can make any mistakes with your arrangement of the blocks.

Hello Everyone Ginny - The mug block is the first block of the new Christmastime quilt along that the Fat Quarter Shop is doing. It only lasts 4 weeks: www.ilovetomakequilts.com/christmastime-mystery.htmlI don't like to make things for others, for various reasons, that's why I have so many quilt tops and small quilts stacked up I'm hoping the quilt with the 120 blocks will go together pretty easily, the biggest problem will be deciding on the layout so the colors spread evenly. The blocks for Moda Blockheads and Hometown Charms came out today and I hope to work on them over the next few days. Looks like they are pretty easy this week. I had to do some work outside in the yard this morning. The area where my sump pump discharges into the yard had all grown over with grass and roots, so I needed to dig that out. Once I did then I put some water in the sump pump to check that it was pumping out into the yard and it was. But that was a more yardwork than I've done for awhile, so I'm tired Hope everyone is doing well today, having nice weather, and getting to do some crafting. Take care!

well I'm finally here. We did have the doctor app't today and it worked out well. She gave me meds for my UTI which I seem to get a lot and she ordered tests for me and also for dh. He had labs drawn Friday and they were good too.I took my crocheting with me to work on while waiting but unfortunately left it in the car and we did have quite a wait (for here that is) She took her time and explained things to dh so he was happy which is unusual because she normally seems to left things go in one ear and out the other. CJ, I love the mug block.I'm sure the quilt will be beautiful. I'm glad your sump pump is working as it should. That has to be a relief to you. Ginny, I keep forgetting to mention the Amish doll. I know she's going to be a nice addition to your family room. I, too, hope you'll post a picture. When you mentioned putting parts together it reminded me of how much I dislike putting parts together on my crochet items. I'm sure it's because I'm really not good at it. Sue, better yarn to me is buying Red Heart with Love instead of Red Heart Super Saver . Actually I have some good yarns and have had them awhile now but can never figure out what to make with them. Some would be great for scarves and shawls but I don't use any of those. I don't have enough of any of them to make a larger item. I don't use them to make things for my ddil or her's and ds' children because she would not hand wash them and my dd and her girls probably wouldn't either but also, I don't know if they even use the things I make for them. Ok well this evening is going to be crochet. Tomorrow will be cleaning.

Good morning!
CJ- thanks for posting the link for the 4 week (yes!) Christmas quilt along. Looks like a lot of fun and such a short duration. I might check it out later on in the morning. Forgot that yesterday was Wednesday and that the moda blockheads and Hometown charms blocks came out. Have fun with them. And yes, finding an even distribution of fabrics for the square in a square (cannot remember the name) quilt could be challenging. Try taking a black and white picture of the block layout before you sew. Yes it helps! And gotta agree, yard work is tiring, but glad you got it done.
Ruth, glad the doctor seemed to do her job well- ordering tests for you and Dh and meds for a UTI. (Which can be very stubborn!). Did you get your crocheting done last night? Stinks that you left it in the car, so I hope you made up for lost time last night.
